Born in Sumter, he was a son of Mildred Nicholes DuBose and the late Coit McTyeire DuBose Sr. Mr. DuBose was a member of Concord Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Edmunds High School and graduated from Central Carolina Technical College with an associate’s degree in accounting. Survivors besides his mother include a brother, Coit M. Gordon E. “Rusty” Mahar, 73, husband of Georgia Wilkie Mahar, died on Thursday, July 26, 2001, at his home. Born Oct. 1, 1927, in Manchester N.H., he was a son of the late Boynton Earl and Marion Welsh Mahar. He was a retired U.S. Air Force chief master sergeant and was a Korean and Vietnam war veteran. He was the Worshipful Master of the Sumter Masonic Lodge 364 and was a member of the Eastern Star, Scottish Rite, York Rite, Shriners, Jamil Jets and ROJ. Survivors besides his wife of 54 years include a son, Gordon E. Mahar Jr. of Alaska; a daughter, Belinda M. Jewell of Sumter; two brothers, Robert Mahar of Alaska and Bill Mahar of Illinois; a sister, Mary Francis Osborne of Illinois; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and 15 stepgreat-grandchildren. Jay Henry Moore, 77, of Manassas, Va., husband of Verna Moore, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Prince William Hospital in Manassas. Born in Omaha, Neb., Mr. Moore was a 1994 graduate of Army Air Force pilot training. He attended Centenary College in Shreveport, La. and American University in Washington, D.C. He was retired from Arlington County Water Pollution Control Board and most recently was employed by Prince William County Library. Survivors besides his wife include two daughters, Consie Glenn of Palestine, Texas, and Gail Elmore of Sumter, S.C.; a son, Jay H. Moore Jr. of Palestine; three grandsons, Robert Ferriol, Kendrick Elmore and Hayes Elmore, all of Sumter; and a granddaughter, Angela Glenn of Palestine. Born in Sumter, S.C., he was a son of the late Henry Mortimer Stuckey Sr. and Daisy Lee Hutchison Stuckey. Mr. Stuckey was a retired attorney with the U.S. Justice Department in Washington, D.C., for 33 years. He was a graduate of Washington College of Law, now American University, in 1938. Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Harry and Elsie Commins. He was a graduate of Edmunds High School in Sumter and a 1965 graduate of The Citadel. He had worked at Williams Furniture in Sumter, CC McGregor CPA Firm and the S.C. Auditors Office. At the time of his death, he was senior assistant state treasurer in the S.C. State Treasurer’s Office and was treasurer of the S.C. Tennis Association. Survivors besides his wife of Columbia include a son, Capt. John Everington Commins, USAF, of Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter, Christine Hunter Commins of York, Pa.; five stepchildren, Matthew Glen Dobbs, Dale Dobbs Slagel and David Ward Dobbs, all of Selma, Ala., and James Edwards Dobbs IV and Nancy Dobbs Wilk, both of Columbia; and 13 grandchildren. Roberta Miller, 56, died Saturday, July 21, 2001, at her home. She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher and also as a Circle Leader of the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Fahola Sunday School Class and the Evening Pilot Club, where she was serving as chaplain. She moved to Sumter after graduating from East Tennessee University to teach in Sumter School District 17. She later joined the staff at the Sumter County Library, where she was employed at the time of her death.
