Kenneth Ott died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. He was born in Tampa, Fla. Services will be announced by Bullock Funeral Home of Sumter.

LOUISE W. CAIN
MT. PLEASANT — Louise Wilson Cain, 64, of Mt. Pleasant, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at her home. Born in Hunlock Creek, Pa., she was a daughter of John T. and Alberta Decker Wilson. During her career, she was an accountant/chemist and real estate agent. Survivors include a son, James R. Cain of Redding, Conn.; a daughter, Judith L. Cain of Mt. Pleasant; and a brother, John C. Wilson and his wife, Alice, of Danville, Pa. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mt. Pleasant chapel. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5900 Core Road, Suite 504, North Charleston, SC 29406. J. Henry Stuhr Inc. of Mt. Pleasant is in charge of arrangements.

JANNIE C. COOPER
LAKE CITY — Jannie Wese Cox Cooper, 75, wife of Willie Dave Cooper, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at Palmetto Baptist Medical Center in Columbia. Born Aug. 14, 1926, in Kingstree, she was a daughter of the late Jeff and Louise Cox. Survivors besides her husband of the home include seven sons, Willie Dave Cooper Jr. of Sumter, Alex L. Cooper of Manning, Truman Cooper, James E. Cooper, Raymond Cooper and Cleo Cooper, all of Lake City, and Charles Cooper of Morongo Valley, Calif.; five daughters, Mary Lee Snowden and Lizzie A. Cyrus of Rochester, N.Y., JoAnn Tucker of Orangeburg, Dorothy Huff of Jacksonville, N.C., and Barbara Jean Cooper of the home; a brother, William Cox of Trenton, N.J.; a sister, Estelle Fulmore of Lake City; an adopted daughter, Katherine Singletary of Lake City; 45 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Faith United Methodist Church, White Oak community, Kingstree, with the Rev. Nathaniel Evans Jr. officiating. Burial will be in White Oak Cemetery, Lake City. The casket will be placed in the church at 9 a.m. Saturday. The funeral procession will leave at 10:40 a.m. Saturday from 2129 I.M. Graham Road, Lake City. The family will receive friends at the home on I.M. Graham Road. Green’s Funeral Home of Lake City is in charge of arrangements.

ROSALIE R. EDENS
DALZELL — Rosalie Rembert Edens, 96, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at her home in Dalzell. Born June 24, 1905, in the Providence community of Sumter County, she was a daughter of Robert Herriott Rembert and Anna Rosa Doby Rembert Brogden. She attended school in Dalzell and Charlotte, N.C. She married James Mitchell Edens on Dec. 21, 1921. She was a member of Tirzah Presbyterian Church, a former member of the Dalzell Grange and the Dalzell Home Demonstration Club. In 1963, she and the late Mr. Edens were named a Progressive Farmer Magazine Master Farm Family. She was inducted into the Master Farm Homemaker Guild in 1970. Survivors include three children, James Mitchell Edens Jr., Emma Rembert Edens Christie and Frances Ann Edens McIntosh; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday at Tirzah Presbyterian Church in Dalzell with the Rev. Tom Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Tirzah Cemetery. The family will receive friends today at the home in Dalzell. Memorials may be made to Tirzah Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund. Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

MARTHA W. GIBSON
COLUMBIA — Martha Ruth Walters Gibson, 80, widow of James Gibson Sr., died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia. Born April 22, 1921, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Alma Cuttino Walters. She attended Clarendon County public schools. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Missionary Society, the adult choir, Deaconess Board and adult Sunday school. Survivors include four sons, James Gibson of Charlotte, N.C., Willie Edward Gibson of Manning, Timothy Gibson of Troy, N.Y., and Mickey Gibson of Columbia; five daughters, Lucille Gibson and Gloria Brown, both of Columbia, Betty Gamble and Brenda Wilson, both of Myrtle Beach, and Ida Betterson of Bronx, N.Y.; five sisters, Lila Mae Daniels, Dorothy Bradley, Sarah McBride and Ella Pearson, all of Sumter, and Virginia Gibson of Manning; 21 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, George Gibson; and two daughters, Ruth Ann Gibson and Barbara Bogier. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fellowship Baptist Church, West Huggins Street, Manning, with Pastor Melvin Daniels officiating, assisted by Minister Stevie Walters, Minister Myron Wilson, the Rev. Sylvester Hicks and the Rev. Henry Mitchell. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Willie Edward and Cassie Gibson, 1249 Acorn Lane, Manning. Samuels Funeral Home of Manning is in charge of arrangements.

BISHOPVILLE — David Hickman Jr. died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center in Hartsville. Born May 11, 1919, in Lee County, he was a son of the late David and Viola Hickman. He attended Lee County public schools. Survivors include a stepson, Wilson Robinson Jr. of Florida; and a number of nephews, nieces and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Barnettsville Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Montgomery officiating, assisted by the Revs. Phillip Mixon, Alfred Bradley and James Frazier. The family will receive friends at 515 E. College St., Bishopville. Square Deal Funeral Home of Bishopville is in charge of arrangements.

DALZELL — John Ricks, husband of Harriet Williams Ricks, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at his home, 5056 Fish Road, Dalzell. Born Jan. 28, 1924, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Willie and Rosa Singleton Ricks. He attended Sumter County schools. In his youth, he joined High Hill AME Church. He moved to New Rochelle, N.Y., where he lived for a number of years. After retiring, he returned to South Carolina and lived in Dalzell. Survivors besides his wife include a son, Edward “Eddie” Carolina; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. today at John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home. The Rev. Ernest Jackson officiated. Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

Mary DesPortes Cuthbert, 82, widow of Charles Pinckney Cuthbert, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at Covenant Place. Services will be announced by Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home.

Kenneth “Ken” Wayne Ott, 67, husband of Francis Tate Ott, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Tampa, Fla., he was a son of the late John Henry and Anna Mae Jennings Ott. He retired as a corporate account executive from the Sherwin-Williams Company. He was a member of the Mecklenburg Jaycees and enjoyed playing golf and cruising. He was a member of the Wise Drive Baptist Church of Sumter. Survivors other than his wife include a daughter, Susanne O. Assante and her husband Steven of Charlotte, N.C. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Harry & Bryant Funeral Home in Charlotte with the Dr. J. Thomas Kort officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Freedom Drive, in Charlotte. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service on Tuesday from noon to 12:45 p.m. at Harry & Bryant Funeral Home. Bullock Funeral Home of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.

David Bracey, 69, widower of Joanna Brown Bracey, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born May 10, 1932, in Lee County, he was a son of the late Roosevelt and Elise Bracey. Educated in the public schools of Lee County, he worked with Sumter County Public Works for many years. Survivors include a son, Charles Gray Brown of Sumter; a daughter, LeeCole Dennis of Sumter; and three sisters, Florence Weston of Sumter, Eloise Thomas of Bishopville, and Mae Bell Howard of Sodus, N.Y. Funeral services will be held Monday at noon at the chapel of Community Funeral Home on Manning Avenue in Sumter, with the Rev. Roosevelt Boyd officiating. Burial will be in Haynesworth Cemetery. The funeral procession will leave at 11:15 a.m. Monday from 353 Love St. The family will receive friends at the home. Community Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Donna Lee DuCom, 66, husband of Eugene DuCom, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at West Hills Village Health Care Center. Born Feb. 11, 1935, in Rapid City, she was a daughter of Doris Clark and the late Lee Clark. Memorial services will be held at Behrens Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday at 2 p.m. with Dr. David Miller officiating. Behrens Mortuary of Rapid City is in charge of the arrangements.

ANNIE LAURIE JORDAN CALDER
OLANTA — Annie Laurie Jordan Calder, 86, widow of LeGrande Caulder, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at a Florence hospital. Born in Florence County, she was a daughter of the late Mack Lynch and Lillie DeFee Lynch. She was retired from L-Kay Manufacturing and was a lifelong member of the Bethel Baptist Church and the Ladies Sunday School Class. Survivors include a son, Myron (Erma) Jordan of Hanahan; three daughters, Jean (Joe) Coker of Florence, Laurita (Don) Smith of Turbeville and Diane (Jack) Smith of Rock Hill; three sisters, Edith White of Coward, Mae Jordan of Olanta and Juanita McFaddin of Kingstree; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; and a special daughter-in-law, Shirley Jordan, and a special sister-in-law, Lorena Lynch. She was preceded in death by her late husbands Harold Hugh Jordan and LeGrande Caulder, two sons, Averitt Jordan and Jimmy Jordan and a brother, J. M. Lynch. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Bethel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Floyd Funeral Home in Olanta. Floyd Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

SUMMERTON — The infant son of Tamika Bowman and Everett A. Rendell Jr. died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning. Survivors other than his parents include a brother, Terry Yon; maternal grandparents James and Esther Bowman of Summerton; a paternal grandfather, Everette Rendell Sr. of Summerton; a maternal great-grandmother, Janie Carter of Summerton and a paternal great-grandfather, James Green Sr. of Summerton. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Pleasant U.M.E. Church in Panola with the Rev. William T. Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Dyson’s Home for Funerals is in charge of the arrangements.

MANNING — Ruby Katherine Keels Dozier, 63, widow of Instine Dozier, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born Dec. 27, 1937, in the Foreston section of Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Martin and Gussie King Keels. The family will receive friends at the home, 3894 Greeleyville Highway, Manning. Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

LYNCHBURG — Ike Epps Jr., husband of Classie Epps, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. He was a son of the late Ike Epps Sr. and Queenie McKnight.
