Born in Woodruff, she was a daughter of the late Alexandria and Minnie Phillips Vaughn. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Esther Sunday school class and Mission Group No. 1. ANCHORAGE, Ala. — Allen Levan White, 47, husband of Sunny White, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at his home in Anchorage. He was a son of the late Isaac Levan White and Louise Walker White. Survivors besides his wife of Alaska include two daughters, Angela White of Lexington and Suki White of Atlanta, Ga.; and a sister, Miriam Carnell of Florence. Burnett M. Zeek, 86, husband of Dorothy Dickerson Zeek, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, at his home. Born in Kenvil, N.J., he was a son of the late Albert James Zeek and Agatha Woods Zehner Zeek. He was a life member of American Legion Post No. 15 in Sumter. He was a Mason. He attended the Roxbury High School, the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts, the New York School of Interior Design, and the Pratt Institute for courses in sculpture and graphics. He was past commander of Roxbury Memorial Post 442, American Legion. He was, by profession, an industrial and interior designer. He worked for the Army Reserve and Development Command Facilities Engineering Division in Dover, N.J., at Picatinney Arsenal for 20 years. His last assignment before retirement to South Carolina was making “reasonably accurate drawings for the previously obscured iron works in Picatinney Area,” which include renditions of the original bloomeries at Middle Forge (1749) and Denmark Forge that were used by Picatinney’s Exhibit Branch to create a scale model. It was first located at the base of the dam at Picatinney Lake, but was later moved for display in Bldg. 3409. He designed three memorials of conglomerate rock displaying bronze plaques commemorating the two forges and the Hessian Cemetery at Picatinney. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps World War II veteran and served in China, Burma, and India Theatre with the 26th Fighter Group FDR Squadron. Survivors besides his wife of Sumter include a son, Martin H. Zeek of Henryville, Pa.; a stepson, Terry Clark of Sumter; a stepdaughter, Cynthia Freeman of Sumter; three stepgrandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Richardson and Mr. Norman Shumaker officiating. Born Nov. 12, 1929, in Lee County, S.C., she was a daughter of Mattie Clark and the late Willie R. Davis. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Leroy “Boy” Pearson. Survivors include six sons, William of Woodrow, S.C., Brett of Columbia, S.C., Leon of Elizabeth, N.J., Scott of Sumter, S.C., and Raymond and Bryant of Philadelphia; four daughters, Josephine Montgomery of Sumter, Barbara Riley, Bernice Lawrence and Carol Pearson, all of Philadelphia; three brothers, Robert Spann of Yemassee, Theodore Davis of Bishopville, S.C., and Willie Rob Davis of Sumter; 24 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Linwood Theodore Franklin, 62, husband of Neomia Mellette Franklin, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born Dec. 11, 1938, in the Westminster Community of Clarendon County, he was a son of William H. Franklin and the late Ruby James Franklin Taylor. He attended Westminster Church and later became a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church. He attended the Westminster Church School and graduated from Manning Training High School. Survivors beside his wife and father include a stepson, David Farmer of Sumter; a foster son, Toney Mellette of Sumter; a daughter, Tonya Franklin of Sumter; a brother, Bennie Lee Franklin of Sumter; two sisters, Shirley Pack and Gloria J. McFadden, both of Sumter; a foster sister, Daisy Blanding of Sumter; six grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. MANNING — Mary Alice Brown Lawrence Freeman, 81, widow of Booker Freeman, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter. Born March 30, 1920, she was a daughter of the later Felix Brown and Ida Chaviss Brown. She was a graduate of Manning Technical Training School. In her youth, she joined Ebenezer Baptist Church. Later in life, she joined Mt. Carmel Baptist Church of Manning. She was a retired domestic engineer. She was first married to the late Moses Lawrence Sr. Survivors include four nieces, Shirley B. Holloman and Barbara Hines, both of Hampton, Va., Ethel Brunson of Newport News, Va., and Sarah B. Starling of Jacksonville, Fla. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Julia Brunson and Bertha Nazareth; two brothers, Joseph Brown and Henry Brown; and a son, Moses Lawrence Jr. A memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hayes F. CADES — Harry James “HJ”Austin Jr., 72, husband of Lela Frenchie Montgomery Austin, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, at Carolinas Hospital System in Florence. Born Jan. 5, 1929, in Williamsburg County, he was a son of the late Harry James Austin Sr. and Alifair Montgomery Austin. He was a graduate of Lake City High School and graduated from Morris College in Sumter. He entered further studies at Hampton University, South Carolina State University and Tuskegee Institute. He was a World War II veteran and retired from teaching and coaching in the public schools of Florence and Williamsburg County schools. Survivors besides his wife include a son, James P. (Claire) Austin of Cades; a daughter, the Debra (the Rev. Dr. Toney) Graham of Lake City; two sisters, Allie Christine Cameron of Lake City and Janie Lou (Harvey) Cooper of Hemingway. Born Dec. 12, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Martin Keels and Gussie King Keels. Mrs. Dozier was a graduate of Manning Training School and attended Miami-Dade College. She also attended Linsey Hopkins College, where she received training to become a nurse assistant. She was a longtime member of Williams Chapel Christian Church. Survivors include two sons, Nixon Dozier of Sumter and Tony Dozier of Miami, Fla. ; two daughters, Carolyn Benton of Manning and Shantia Dozier of Columbia; two brothers, Russell Keels and Carl Keels of Miami; her foster brother, Raliegh “BB” Keels of Miami; five sisters, Maxine Andrews, Martha Kitchen, Mary Pearson and Diane Kendrick of Miami and Joanne Henry of Manning; and nine grandchildren. BALTIMORE — Nancy Arlene Session Golden, 83, widow of Frank Golden, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001. Born April 3, 1918, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Conius and Elizabeth Session. She attended the public schools of Clarendon County and was employed for many years as a hatmaker at Bea’s Hat Shop in Baltimore. She worked at the concession stand at Memorial Stadium and was an avid supporter of the Baltimore Orioles. While in Baltimore, she was an active member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church and later joined Grace Baptist Church. After retirement, she moved to St. Stephens and joined Greenhill Baptist Church in Alcolu. She later joined St. Stephens Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Lillian Golden of Baltimore; a grandchild, Clanetta Boone of Baltimore; and a great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Ulysses and Charles; and a sister, Rose. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Greenhill Baptist Church in Alcolu with the Rev. W. J.
