Born in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Thomas Hazel Gibbons and Annie Bell Gowdy Gibbons. He was employed by Hughes Landscaping Co.
Survivors include a brother, W. Glenn Gibbons of New Zion; a sister, Charlotte Tisdale of Turbeville; two nephews, William G. Gibbons Jr. and Ronald A. Tisdale; a niece, Denise Todd; a great-nephew, William T. Gibbons; an uncle, John D. Gowdy; two aunts, Vauda G. Osborne and Gracie G. Osborne; and a special friend, Angela Easler.

PINEWOOD — Deacon Calvin “BoBo” Glover, 34, husband of Fannie Belle Clark Glover, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.
Born July 17, 1967, in Summerton, he was a son of Willie Henry Glover and the late Gracie Ann Oliver Glover and stepson of Betty Billie Glover. He attended Scott’s Branch High School. He was a member of Clarendon Healing Temple, where he served as a deacon trustee, youth minister and Southern State Sunday School youth counselor assistant. He was employed by V.B. Williams Furniture Inc. of Sumter.
Survivors besides his wife of the home and his father and stepmother of Summerton include a son, Calvin “C.J.” Glover of the home; three daughters, Sakeenah Glover, Tameka Glover and Kianna Glover, all of the home; a brother, Willie Lee Glover of Manning; two stepbrothers, Issac Billie of Manning and Clyde Billie of Orangeburg; two sisters, Mary Riggins of Santee and Evelyn Gamble of Sumter; three stepsisters, Marie Billie of Manning, Latashia Billie and Denise Billie, both of Summerton; and his grandmother, Robertha Dow of Summerton.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Clarendon Healing Temple, Depot Street, Manning, with Elder James Betrand III, pastor, officiating, assisted by Elder Cleveland Smith, the Rev. BRONX, N.Y. — Isreal “Smokey” McCoy Jr., 63, widower of Loretta Bradford McCoy, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, at his home, 595 E. 170th St., Bronx.
Born June 3, 1938, in Gable, S.C., he was a son of the late Isreal McCoy Sr. and Louse Goodman McCoy. He attended Clarendon County public schools. In his youth, he joined Hickory Grove Baptist Church. After moving to New York, he joined Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church. He was a member of Mt. Lebanon Chapter No. 10 — Royal Arch Masons, Meridian Lodge No. 69, AF&AM, Mt. Cavalry Commandery No. 3 — Knight Templars, Jesse Williams Lodge of Perfection No. 1 — AASR, Valley of N.Y., Etemanki Temple No. 2 — AAONMS, Oasis of N.Y., and St. James Consistory No. 2 — Valley of N.Y. He was a past patron of Ava Marie Chapter No. 2A Order of Eastern Star and past patron of Magnolia Chapter No. 56 Order of Eastern Star. He was employed by French and Polyclinic Hospital from 1960 to 1974. He retired from Brooklyn Hospital in 1998 as a pathologist.
Survivors include a son, William Allen “Smokey” McCoy of Gable; three daughters, Jacqueline McLawhorn, Claudia Evette McCoy and Kim Vermel McCoy, all of Bronx; five brothers, Roosevelt McCoy of Landham, Md., Willie Mack McCoy of Landover, Md., Thomas Allen McCoy of Springdale, Md., Harry McCoy of Capital Heights, Md., and David McCoy of Gable; two sisters, Clara Ceasar of Philadelphia, Pa., and Margaret Boyd of Bronx; and seven grandchildren.

OLANTA — Olivia Shields McLeod, 78, widow of Ben McLeod, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, in Florence.
Born March 18, 1923, in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of Alice Lee and Theodore Shields. She was a retired farm worker.
Survivors include two sons, Ben McLeod Jr. of Olanta and Norris McLeod of Hartsville; two daughters, Annie Laura Burgess and Moszell McLeod, both of Olanta; and 26 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Emwell Baptist Church in Olanta with the Rev. William Boyd Jr. officiating. Burial will be in St. Mark Cemetery.

Lynell Davis McRae, 86, widow of Willie McRae, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2001, at Mariner Health of Sumter West.
Born Sept. 21, 1915, in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late William Davis and Susan Moses Davis. She graduated from Mayesville Institute School. She was a member of Ebenezer AME Church, where she served as a member of the steward board, stewardess board, pulpit aide and member of the missionary society. Her skills included being a professional baker, cab driver, salesperson and convenience store manager. She taught school in Clarendon County for a year and substituted in Lee County.
Survivors include a son, Bruce Tyrone McRae of Sumter; and three nieces, Willie Ruth Garland and Lynell J. Ransom of the home and Lorraine Davis of Silver Springs, Md.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers, George, Steven, Dana, William, Hallie, Theodore and James; and three sisters, Bessie, Esther and Keturah.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ebenezer AME Church in Mayesville with the Rev. Leo Chapman Jr. officiating, assisted by the Rev. Vermell Marshall-Humes. Burial will be in Mayesville Cemetery.

FLORENCE — Thomas Edward Solomon, husband of Lula Bell Solomon, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at a local hospital.
Born in Lee County, he was a son of the late Sam and Viney Edwards Solomon. He attended Lee County public schools. He was a deacon at Friendship Baptist Church in Rahway, N.J., and later joined Greenbay Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge.
Survivors besides his wife include seven sons, Timothy Solomon, John Mark Solomon and his wife, Cynthia, Samuel Wesley Solomon and his wife, Zshonnelle, Thomas Edward Solomon Jr., Roosevelt Scott and his wife, Dorothy, Nathaniel Isaac, and Ralph McFadden; two daughters, Peggy Ann Solomon Bergen and her husband, Blair, and Algia McCray and her husband, James; two brothers, Zaddok Solomon and his wife, Mae, and Winston Solomon; two sisters, Mary Thomas and Calpernia Nixon and her husband, Roosevelt; and 19 grandchildren.
