Lincoln C. Brock Jr., husband of Debra Drayton Brock, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born July 2, 1948, in Sumter County, he was a son of Lincoln C. Brock Sr. and Ruth Thompson Brock. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School. He was a lifelong member of St. Matthews Missionary Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean War.
Survivors besides his parents and wife include three sons, Michael Brock of Naples, Italy, Quintel Drayton Brock and Montez Drayton, both of Sumter; four daughters, Pamela D. Brock of Columbia, Tonya Vereen of Irmo, Kanaki Drayton Brock and Myra Drayton Brock, all of Sumter; and a number of grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John Luther Brock.
Wake services will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Palmer Memorial Chapel, 304 S. Main St.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Matthews Missionary Baptist Church, U.S. 521 South, Sumter, with the Rev. M.G. Walters officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park.
The casket will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The funeral procession will leave at 1 p.m. from the home of Mrs. Debra Brock, 1007 Vaughn St.

Thelma Britton Brogdon, widow of Rodie Brogdon Sr., died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, in Baltimore, Md.
Born March 22, 1922, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late James Britton and Marie Witherspoon Britton. She attended Sumter County public schools and was a graduate of Lincoln High School. She was a lifelong member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Baltimore. She was an administrative employee of the state of Maryland.
Survivors include a son, Rodie Brogdon Jr. of Baltimore; and a grandson, Tony Brogdon of Baltimore.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Palmer Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Sammie C. Smith, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Walker Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home of Mrs. Armisher Brogdon, 501 Silver St.

MANNING — Leroy Dean Claycomb, 65, husband of Kathy Pimley Claycomb, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002.
Born in Pickering, Mo., he was a son of the late Edna Mae and James Loris Claycomb. He graduated from Iowa State University with a master’s degrees in business and chemistry. He was a U.S. Army veteran and later retired as president and chief executive officer of New Hampshire Medical Laboratory. As an avid golfer and a lifetime member of the PGA, he was employed at the Wyboo Player’s Golf Course in Manning.
Survivors besides his wife include three stepdaughters, Hope Rice of Weare, N.H., Tammy Michael of Epson, N.H., and Heather Hebert of Manchester, N.H.; a stepson, Paul Lemay Jr. of Goffstown, N.H.; three grandchildren, Alex Rice, Monika Hebert and Maddison Hebert, all of New Hampshire; a devoted dog, Mickey; and a cat, Mr. Hogan.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Jean Claycomb.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Wyboo Plantation Community Center on Recreation Drive in Manning.

I.D. Elmore Jr., 81, husband of Clara Lewis Elmore, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at his home.
Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late I.D. Elmore Sr. and Juanita Phillips Elmore. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Marine Corps World War II veteran and served at Guadal Canal, Iwo Jima and other South Pacific areas. He was a retired salesman with the Philadelphia Life Ins. Co.
Survivors besides his wife of Sumter include a sister, Jean Kohl of Sumter; three nieces, Pam Kohl of Columbia, Terri Elmore Holt of Gainesville, Fla., and Juanita Elmore Rella of Mobile, Ala.; and six nephews, Billy Kohl of Santee, Deaver Kohl, Robby Elmore, Brent Elmore and Gary Elmore, all of Sumter, and Glenn Elmore of Columbia.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin Earl Elmore and Bobby Elmore.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. James Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Sumter Cemetery.
Theron Cook, Leland Brown, Bobby Benson, Scott Gilbert, Harby Moses, Everett Faulling and Julian Singleton will serve as pallbearers.

MANNING — Dorothy Blackwell Johnson, 63, of 1154 Archer Ave., Manning, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.
Born Aug. 10, 1939, in the Bloomville section of Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Ned Blackwell and Mildred Stukes Blackwell. She attended Manning Training School. In her youth, she joined Reeseville AME Church and later joined Household of Faith Holiness Church of Manning. She retired from Central Coffee Shop in Manning as a cook.
Survivors include four sons, Roosevelt Blackwell of Turbeville, Robert Blackwell and Richard Johnson, both of Manning, and Wallace Johnson of the home; three daughters, Edna Brown of Orangeburg, Roshell Mathis and Mildretta Johnson, both of Manning; a brother, Minister Johnathan Blackwell of Manning; four sisters, Laura Felder of Alcolu, Mary Blackwell of New York, N.Y., Lillie Williams of Manning and Rena Reid of Miami, Fla.; and 17 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Reeseville AME Church, U.S. 521 North, Alcolu, with the Rev. Marie Harvin, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. James Lesene, the Rev. Clifton Gaymon, the Rev. S.W. Whack Jr. and Minister Johnathan Blackwell. Burial will be in the churchyard cemetery.

Robert L. “Rob” or “Shorty” Robinson, 48, husband of Marvia “Tina” Robinson, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 26, 1954, in East Chicago, Ind., he was a son of the late Walter Lee Robinson and Queen Ester Burts Robinson. He attended East Chicago public schools and was a graduate of Roosevelt High School.
Survivors besides his wife include three sons, Robert L. Robinson Jr., George E. Robinson and Winter D. Robinson, all of Sumter; a daughter, Sherlonne D. “Sissy” Robinson of Sumter; four brothers, Willie Robinson of Gary, Ind., John William Burts of Columbus, Ga., Johnny Robinson of Phoenix, Ariz., and George Robinson of Utah; four sisters, Carrie Young of Hammond, Ind., Mattie Vellines and Venus Robinson of Tucson, Ariz., and Hope Candia of Gary; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shervonne Robinson; a brother, Jessie Robinson; and a sister, June Burrows. Wake services will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Sumter Funeral Service.

JOE L. SHARPE
BROOKLYN — Joe L. Sharpe, 66, husband of Mrs. Frances R. Sharpe, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at Metropolitan Jewish Hospital in Brooklyn, NY.
Born on Aug. 3, 1935, in Sumter, he was the son of the late Edgar and Annie Pringle Sharpe. He attended the public schools of Sumter County and was employed at Williams Furniture Company. He served in the U.S. Army for five years.
He married Frances R. Sharpe on Oct. 22, 1959, and had two children, Justin L. Sharpe and the late Leah Tanya Sharpe.
He and his family moved to Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1962. He was first employed with the New York City Housing Authority for two years. On Dec. 29, 1969, he became a bus driver for the New York City Transit Authority where he was employed until he retired in December of 1990. While in New York, he was a member of Eastside Church of God on Broome Street.
As a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, he served as treasurer of the Senior Trustee Board, Class Leader #17, and captain of the Homecoming Committee; sang with the senior choir and male chorus, and was a member of the Sunday school, Mission of Welfare Committee, Cemetery Committee, Sharefood Committee, Father’s Day Committee, Homecoming Brotherhood Committee, Mission on Stewardship and Finance Committee, the usher board and was the past president of the Gospel Choir.
Survivors besides his wife include a son, Justin Sharpe of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sisters, Jeralene Weary and Julia Brunson, both of Sumter; and three brothers, Willie Edward Sharpe of Miami, Fla., and Albert Sharpe and Sam Leslie Sharpe, both of Philadelphia, Pa.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at St. Paul A.M.E. Church on Plowden Mill Road with Dr. B.J. Glover officiating, assisted by the Rev. Alvin Webb, Rev. Larry Barnes, Rev. Friendly Gadson and Rev. Laddie Howard. Interment will follow in the St. Paul A.M.E. Church Cemetery.

Nancy Ann Wilder Egan Warren, 73, wife of Charles N. Warren, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at her home.
Born April 7, 1928, in Orwell, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late John Lyn Wilder and Arvilla Harriet Bush Wilder. She graduated from Pulaski Academy and Central School and the University of New York at Oswego with a bachelor of science degree. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Sumter. She taught school in Rochester and Syracuse, N.Y., and San Bernardino, Calif. She also was a substitute teacher in Sumter.
Survivors besides her husband of Sumter include two sons, Stephen Egan of Tampa., Fla., and Paul Egan of Columbia; a brother, William Wilder of North Syracuse; three stepchildren, Anita Williams of Syracuse, Randy Warren of Vancouver, Wash. and Donna Halladay of Moravia, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Ralph Lenhardt Watson, 82, husband of Salome Troublefield Watson, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at his home.
Born in Forest City, N.C., he was a son of the late Charlie J. Watson and Mary MacMurry Watson. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, the American Legion Post No. 15 and was a Mason. He was a retired U.S. Air Force technical sergeant with 22 years of service.
Survivors besides his wife include two stepdaughters, Diane Spencer and Pat Lee, both of Sumter; a stepson, Ron French of Studio City, Calif.; a brother, Joe Watson of Thomasville, N.C.; and two sisters, Euzelia Conners of Fort Mill and Mattie Ruth Cook of Rutherford, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Deci Mae Bridges Watson. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. TURBEVILLE — Rosa Lee Floyd Welch, 73, of Turbeville died on Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at a Florence hospital after an illness.
Born in Williamsburg County, she was a daughter of the late Calip Floyd and Dolly Barfield Floyd. She was a member of the Pine Dale Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Marie McKenzie, of New Zion; six sons, M.C. Welch, Donnie Ray Welch, Ronnie Dale Welch, Harris D. Welch, Carroll J. Welch and William T. Welch, all of Turbeville; three sisters, Ola Mae Feagin of Charleston, Nina Culick and Annie Mae Culick, both of Lake City; and 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson A. Welch; a son, Aaron Nelson Welch; three sisters, Nellie Sims, Macy Parker and Pauline Floyd; and three brothers, Ernest Floyd, John Floyd and Buddy Floyd.

James “June” Wilson Jr., 58, husband of Lucille McFadden Wilson, died on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born on Jan. 17, 1944, in Sumter, he was the son of the late Eva McCoy and James Slater and stepson of Jessie McCoy, of Sumter. He attended the public schools of South Carolina. He was a member of Emanuel United Methodist Church and sang with the United Methodist Men’s Choir. He played lead guitar for the Golden Gates, Dock Lewis, St. Matthews Singers, Junior Wells and the Gospel Stars, the Majestics, and the Voices of Faith.
Survivors besides his wife and stepfather include two sons, James Laverne Wilson of Jacksonville, N.C., and Christopher Wilson of Sumter; two daughters, Latonya Wilson of Kuwait and Malanda Ann Wilson of Cordele, Ga.; a brother, James Slater Jr., of Sumter; three sisters, Carolyn Bryant, Shirley Harrison and Rosa Clark, of Sumter; a grandmother, Rebecca Cocklin of Sumter; and six grandchildren, two of which he raised as his own, Shanieka Wilson and Isaiah Wilson.
He was preceded in death by his son, Isaiah Wilson.

Abram “Budda” Tomlin Jr., 66, widower of Ruth Jones Tomlin, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 7, 1935, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Abram Tomlin Sr. and Mary Jackson Tomlin. He attended Good Hope School of Sumter County and Reeseville School of Alcolu. In his youth, he joined Mulberry Baptist Church, where he was a member of the trustee board, inspirational choir, senior choir and male chorus. He was employed by Korn Industry for 28 years. After his retirement, he was the owner and operator of Budda’s Bar-Be-Que.
Survivors include seven sons, Isiah Tomlin, Abram Tomlin III, James Tomlin, Jerome Tomlin, Joenathan Tomlin and Dean Tomlin, all of Sumter, and John Glenn Tomlin of Greeleyville; four daughters, Ida Davis, Annette Tomlin, Tammy Tomlin and Sharon Tomlin, all of Sumter; a brother, Robert Tomlin Sr. of Sumter; four sisters, Julia R. Dukes and Mary E. Tomlin, both of Sumter, and Addie S. Williams and Katie Bell Williams, both of Philadelphia, Pa.; four grandchildren he raised as his own, Cecilia, Jerry, Brandon and Brian Wells, all of Sumter; 27 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Lillie T. Wells and Valerie T. Green; a brother; and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Mulberry Baptist Church with the Rev. O.S. Scott, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Mulberry Cemetery.
