SUMMERTON — Moses Georgia Sr., 83, widower of Silla Pearl Gibson Georgia, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, at Community General Hospital in Thomasville, N.C.
Born Feb. 1, 1919, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Mary Eliza Georgia Williams and a stepson of Joe Williams Sr.
The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Inez G. Mitchell, 2157 Lucian Brailsford Road, Summerton.

NATHAN C. LONG JR.
Nathan Calhoun Long Jr., 89, widower of Sallie Strom Long, to whom he was married for 57 years, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in McCormick, he was a son of the late Nathan C. Long Sr. and Rosa Griffis Long. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Sumter for 50 years and a former member of First Baptist Church in Edgefield. He was a U.S. Air Force World War II veteran and served in the 13th Army Air Force known as the Jungle Air Force in the Pacific Campaign. He also served in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1934 to 1937. He was employed as an aircraft mechanic at Shaw A.F.B. for more than 30 years. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 15.
Survivors include a son, Joseph Henry Long and his wife, Daphne Homer Long, of Baltimore, Md.; and a sister, Elizabeth Hudgens of Laurens. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. James Chandler and the Rev. Dr. Thomas Painter officiating.
Funeral services will also be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Edgefield. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery in Edgefield.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

WINNSBORO — Rennee’ Michelle Bowman-Ayers, 41, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at Life Care Center in Columbia.
Born Aug. 20, 1960, in Philadelphia, Pa., she was a daughter of Leroy and Mildred Bowman. She attended Roosevelt, N.Y., public schools and graduated in 1977. She attended Nassau Community College and later graduated from Nassau County Training School in Hempstead, N.Y. She was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Roosevelt, where she was active in the Sunday school and youth choir. She relocated to Winnsboro in 1987 and joined Bethlehem AME Zion Church and later joined Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church, where she was baptized. She was employed by the Nassau County Epilepsy Children Center in Garden City, N.Y., and was also employed by Fairfield Memorial Hospital, Tanglewood Nursing Home and the state Department of Social Services.
Survivors besides her parents include a son, Eric Cliff Harding of Sumter; three brothers, Maj. Gen. George Fletcher Bowman of Fort Meade, Md., James Leroy Bowman of Anaheim Hills, Calif., and Anthony “Tony” Freeman of Salisbury, N.C.; three sisters, Belindra Broome and Barbara Guy, both of Winnsboro, and Margie Freeman of Queens, N.Y.; an uncle; and a number of aunts, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church, 505 W. Moultrie St., Winnsboro, with the Rev. Terrence Belton, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Manigault Cemetery.
The casket will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Friday.

WEDGEFIELD — Bettie Ethel Burress, 93, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Wedgefield, she was a daughter of the late Rufus Clarence Burress and Carrie Kilpatrick Burress. She was a lifelong member of Wedgefield Baptist Church and was a retired postmistress from the Wedgefield and Shaw Air Force Base post offices.
Survivors include a brother, M.C. Burress Sr. of Sumter; and six sisters, Carrie Lee Alsbrooks and her husband, Ferd, Evelyn B. Carr, Isabelle Burress, Vivian B. Lachicotte and her husband, W.F., all of Sumter, Ruth B. Davis of Burlington, N.C., and Josie B. Loflin and her husband, W.A., of Colonial Heights, Va.
She was preceded in death by a brother, W.E. Burress.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Wedgefield Baptist Church with the Rev. Darryl Davids officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

MANNING — Jessie Dozier, 71, widower of Bernice Gamble Dozier and Hennie Mae Whack Dozier, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at Jewish Nursing Home and Hospital in New York, N.Y.
Born Dec. 25, 1930, in the Sugar Hill section of Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Essic “Sonny” Dozier and Estelle Johnson Dozier. He attended Clarendon County public schools. In his youth, he joined Progressive Church of Jesus Christ. He retired from the Hunt Point Produce Market of Bronx, N.Y., in the shipping and receiving department as a stevedore.
Survivors include two sons, Jessie Lee Gamble of St. Petersburg, Fla., and James Lee Dozier of Summerville; three daughters, JoAnn Sharpe and Mary Alice Dozier, both of Manning, and Helen Campbell of Angelo, Texas; four brothers, Nathaniel Dozier, Franklin Dozier and Leroy Conyers, all of New York, N.Y., and Raleigh Dozier of Manning; three sisters, Dora Mae Mack of Lake Forest, Calif., and Esther Mae Dozier and Annie Dell Dozier, both of Manning; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert H. Dozier, Windell Dozier and Thomas Dozier; and a sister, Thomasena Dozier.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Progressive Church of Jesus Christ, U.S. 521 East, Manning, with Bishop James B. Whack, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Eloise Pompey. Burial will be in St. Matthews Cemetery, S.C. 261 East, Manning. The casket will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Friday.

Survivors include four sons, William Turner and Nathaniel Turner of Middletown, Conn., and Henry Turner and Doris Turner Jr. of Johnsonville; three daughters, Gracie White of Summerville, Aquilla Barcus of Hollis, N.Y., and Sylvia G. Butteram of Middletown, Conn.; four brothers, Theotis Self, Samuel Self and Jonathan Self of Durham, N.C., and Benny Turner Jr. of Johnsonville; three sisters, Odessa Green and Bernice Canteen of Johnsonville and Betty Graves of Hemingway; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was born Aug. 12, 1937, in Hemingway.

Born March 15, 1914, in the Sugar Hill section of Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late General Evans Davis Sr. and Daisy Conyers Davis and stepdaughter of the late Gardenia Harvin Davis.

Olvin Brooks “O.B.” Drayton Sr., 75, husband of Virginia Hussey Drayton, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at his home.
Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Thomas Simons Drayton Jr. and Harriet Belk Drayton. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and and treasurer of the Boyle Bible Class. He was a graduate of Edmunds High School and Clevenger Business College. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, having served with the 101st Airborne Division, 327th Glider Regiment in the European Theatre. He was a recipient of the Eagle Service Medal with two bronze stars and the World War II Victory Medal. He retired from Shaw Air Force Base Civil Service and the National Bank of South Carolina. He was a master mason of Claremont Masonic Lodge No. 64 and served as past patron of Sumter Chapter No. 188 Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors besides his wife of Sumter include three sons, O.B. Drayton Jr. and his wife, Sarah Gathright Drayton of Columbia, Francis W. Drayton Sr. and his wife, Virginia “Gincy” Pike Drayton, of Sumter and Charles Edward “Eddie” Drayton Sr. of Sumter; two daughters, Gloria Blum and her husband, Maurice Blum, of Florence and Sylvia Andrews and her husband, Marvin E. Andrews, of Sumter; a grandson, Charles Edward “Chad” Drayton of the home; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Thomas Drayton Jr., Harry V. Drayton and Raymond Epps Drayton; four sisters, Thelma Drayton Green, Edna D. McLain, Lillian D. Davis and Ollie Mae Drayton; and a granddaughter, Marie Elaine Blum.
