SUMMERTON — Moses Georgia Sr., 83, widower of Silla Pearl Gibson Georgia, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, at Community General Hospital in Thomasville, N.C.
Born Feb. 1, 1919, in Summerton, he was a son of Mary Brunson Georgia Williams and the late Joe Williams. He was raised in a Christian home. In his youth, he joined Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church in Summerton. He attended Clarendon County schools. He was active in many auxiliaries including the trustee board and the gospel choir. He was a member of Summerton Masonic Lodge No. 366. He was employed by the state Department of Transportation in its division of highway maintenance in Clarendon County.
Survivors include three sons, Moses Georgia Jr. of Trinity, N.C., Leroy Georgia of Thomasville, N.C., and John Simmons of Summerton; five daughters, Inez G. Mitchell of Summerton, Betty G. Boggan of Thomasville, Maggie G. Simmons and Pearl G. Oliver, both of Trinity, and Theresa Blake of Riverview, N.J.; three brothers, Johnny Lee Williams of Miami, Fla., James Williams of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Joe Williams Jr. of Summerton; three sisters, Ida W. Gaymon of Pinewood, Mamie Nelson of Philadelphia, Pa., and Janie Wilds of Queens, N.Y.; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Willie Mood Georgia and Charlie Georgia.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church in Summerton with the Rev. William T. Johnson, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Revs. Roosevelt Boyd and Van R. Johnson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The casket will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Saturday.
The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Inez G. and Lee Mitchell, 2157 Lucien Brailsford Road, Summerton.

Cynthia Jewell Wilson Jennings, 44, wife of Allen Jennings Jr., died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 30, 1957, in the Bronx, N.Y., she was a daughter of Gertrude W. Dennis and the late David L. Wilson Sr. and stepdaughter of Deacon Herbert Dennis Sr. She was baptized in New York and became a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She attended International Career Institute in New York City. After graduation, she worked as an educational intake counselor for student activities. She later relocated to Sumter, where she attended Hopewell Baptist Church in Dalzell and Bethel AME Church in Columbia.
Survivors besides her husband, mother and stepfather include three sons, Allen, Tyree and Akil Jennings; and a stepbrother, Herbert Dennis Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hopewell Baptist Church, S.C. 441, Dalzell, with the Rev. Dr. L.W. Walker Sr., pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Anthony Taylor and the Rev. Ronnie E. Brailsford of Bethel AME Church in Columbia. Burial will be in Hopewell Baptist Church cemetery.
The casket will be placed in the church at noon Saturday.

David Alexander Nevels died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.
Born Sept. 9, 1993, in Charlotte, N.C., he was a son of Wandalee Nevels and Larry Michael Nevels. He was a second-grade honor student at Alice Drive Elementary School. He received numerous awards and certificates including the principal’s award for honor roll, perfect attendance, good conduct award and certificates for outstanding abilities in music. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church. He was a member of the family YMCA, the karate class at the Freed School of Performing Arts, a former member of the Boy Scouts and Tiger Cub No. 305. He was an avid swimmer, which he taught himself. He was very skilled with video games and enjoyed all sports and singing.
Survivors besides his mother of Sumter and his father of Charlotte, N.C., include a sister, Adeia Michelle Nevels; maternal grandparents, Mae Jefferson Starks and Prince Hosanna Starks Sr., both of Winston-Salem, N.C.; paternal grandmother, Alma Marie Whitworth of Malpitas, Calif.; two uncles, Dr. Preston Henry Starks of Jacksonville, Fla., and Prince Hosanna Starks Jr. of Winston-Salem; an aunt, Winfred Starks Garrett of Durham, N.C.; and a number of cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Garrick-Boykin Human Development Center, Morris College, Sumter, with the Rev. Malachi Gibson officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory in Winston-Salem.

Born Sept. 2, 1907, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Leonard Dick and Mary Elizabeth Weldon Mathis.
Survivors include a son, Shelton L. Shorter Jr. of Charlotte; two sisters, Colzie M. Richardson of Florence and Margaret M. Smith of Cornelius, N.C.
She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 69 years, Shelton L. Shorter Sr.; three brothers, Leland Weldon, Len Benjamin and Richard Curtis Mathis; and a sister, Ethel White McCoy.

DALEVILLE, Ala. — Willie S. Stroy, 54, husband of Levern Hilton Stroy, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, at his home, 60 S. Catherine Drive, Daleville.
Born Feb. 23, 1947, in Manning, S.C., he was a son of Magnolia Spry Stroy and the late James Stroy. He attended Manning Training School. In his youth, he joined Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. He later joined Holly Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged after 21 years. He received the Army Service Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with four campaign stars, National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), Bronze Star Medal and Overseas Service Ribbon (2).
Survivors besides his wife of Daleville and his mother of Manning include a daughter, Melinda J. Stroy of Daleville; and three sisters, Anna Murray and Emily Brown, both of Manning, and Pamela Fields of Columbia, S.C.

Born May 5, 1904, in Manning, she was a daughter of the late Luke and Martha Davis. In her youth, she joined Mt. Moriah UME Church in Alcolu, where she served faithfully with the missionary society, Sunday school and choir. She was a longtime member of the Sons and Daughters of Job.
Survivors include two sons, Clarence and George Webb, both of Sumter; a daughter, Fannie L. Ford of Sumter; a sister, Sarah Jane Hudson of Norwalk, Conn.; her care giver, Janie Pack; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
