LAKE CITY — Freddie James “Doc” Langston, 78, husband of Louise Oliver Langston, died Friday, August 3, 2001, at his residence after an illness. Born in Florence County, he was a son of the late Isgett D. Langston and Maggie Collins Langston. He was a retired auto mechanic and member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Men’s Sunday School class. Survivors other than his wife include two daughters, Jean Langston (Bobby) Burgess and Janice Langston (Mack) Beard, both of Lake City; a son, Donald E. (Kaye) Langston of Scranton; two sisters, Lizzie Ann Bunch of Summerville and Mary Coward of Coward; seven grandchildren, Ray Phelps of Drayton, Mackie Beard and Cory Langston, both of Lake City, Donnie Langston of Raleigh, N.C., and Beth (Spencer) Rogers, Amy (Donny) McGee and Ashley Langston, all of Lake City; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Freddie Kyle Beard; two brothers, DeLee Langston and Milber Langston; and three sisters, Virginia Miles, Essie Shealy and Rosa Dean Jones. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Calvary Baptist Church with burial in the Lake City Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Born June 30, 1916, in Florence County, he was a son of the late Julious Cockfield and Elvira Burgess. He retired from the Public Works Department of Lake City. Survivors include a daughter, Nettie Lee Croker and her husband, James Croker, of the home; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, James Cockfield. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a retired security officer and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Vietnam. She was a member of Wise Drive Baptist Church. She worked for 28 years at the Tuomey Hospital Canteen/Gift Shop for the Junior Welfare League of Sumter. Richardson and Louise Simons Richardson. He was a member of St. Marks Episcopal Church in Pinewood and was a retired farmer and merchant. He was also a World War II U.S. Army veteran. Ewing and her husband, Ronny, of Pinewood; a brother, James A. Richardson of Pinewood; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, W.H.B.
