Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of Fred D. and Judy S. Hussey.
Survivors besides her husband and parents include two sons, Travis Martin “Tripp” Brown IV of Manning and Phillip Allen Black Jr. of the home; a daughter, Judie Carey Black of the home; two brothers, Michael Ryan “Mike” Hussey of Turbeville and Frederick Christian “Chris” Hussey of Myrtle Beach; a sister, Winnifred Dell Hussey “Winn” Todd of Turbeville; her paternal grandmother, Myrtle Allsbrooks Hussey of Sumter; a number of nieces and nephews; and a great-nephew.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Great Commission Ministries, 3503 W. Turbeville Highway, Lake City, with Pastor Derrick Fort officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Todd, 1220 Atkinson St., Turbeville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to one’s local hospice organization.

Brooklyn MiKayla Gauthier, 2, went to be with Jesus on Monday, March 25, 2002, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.
Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of Michael W. Gauthier and Heather L. Evans.
Survivors besides her parents of Sumter include her maternal grandparents, Danny and Karen Welch of Sumter, and Al and Kelli Evans of Sumter; paternal grandmother, Nancy Palmer of Myrtle Beach; maternal great-grandparents, Betty Welch of New Zion, Carmen Evans of New Zion, Charles and Kathy Hatfield of Manning and James and Sandra Owens of Sumter; paternal great-grandparents, Pat and Bill Gauthier of Hagerstown, Md.; and a number of special aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, David Matthew Gauthier; maternal great-grandparents, Dewey and Evelyn Newman and Thomas Evans; a special cousin, Catherine Allyssa Bullard; and a maternal great-grandfather, James Howard Welch. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Crosswell Baptist Church with the Rev. Rob Porter, the Rev. Steve Rohrlack and the Rev. Rodney Howard officiating. Burial will be in Zoar Community Cemetery.
Heath Griffin, J.R. Wetzel, Whitney Newman and Danny Ray Welch Jr. will serve as pallbearers.

Lillie Mae James, 75, died Sunday, March 24, 2002, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 26, 1926, in Pinewood, she was a daughter of the late Jessie Goodman and Susanna Nelson Goodman. She attended Sumter County public schools. She was employed in the medical field as a licensed practical nurse for a number of years before she retired.
Survivors include a son, James Edward Bennett of Richmond, Va.; a daughter, Beatrice Sabir of Queens, N.Y.; seven brothers, Jim Goodman, Herbert Goodman, Harold Goodman and Larry Goodman, all of Sumter, Jessie Goodman of Charlotte, N.C., Willie Haywood Goodman and John Edward Goodman, both of Boston, Mass.; five sisters, Lucinda Epps of Manning, Sallie Eva Holiday and Catherin Russell, both of Boston, Dorothy Evans of Maplewood, N.J., and Magaree Williams of Deer Park, N.Y.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Wake services were held from 10 to 11 a.m. today.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today in the chapel of Community Funeral Home. Benjamin Sabir officiated and Imam Omar Shadeed assisted. Burial was in Hillside Memorial Park.

John Alexander “Bayboy” Phillips, 78, husband of Lillie Mae Washington Phillips, died Sunday, March 24, 2002, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born June 18, 1923, in Sumter, he was a son of the late John Phillips and Mary Holmes Phillips. He attended Sumter County public schools. He became a born-again Christian while serving in the U.S. Army in Germany and joined Trinity Baptist Church by letter under the pastorate of the late Rev. H.H. Harvin. Upon his return, he was baptized and became an active member of the fellowship.
He served as a dedicated member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church for more than 50 years, serving as church clerk, Sunday school teacher and superintendent, chairman of the deacon board and president of the prayer band. He was also an active member of the Sumter Community Bible study. He worked and retired from Korn Industries and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army in Europe.
Survivors besides his wife of 55 years include seven sons, Johnny L. Phillips and his wife, Gaylinda, Stanley R. Phillips and his wife, Glenda, Ronald D. Phillips, Calvin B. Phillips, Willie A. Phillips and his wife, Sonya, Oral G. Phillips and his wife, Sheila, and Don A. Phillips and his wife, Benita, all of Sumter; four daughters, Joann Phillips Murrill and her husband, Oliver, Janice C. Phillips, Gwendolyn Phillips Burk, and Constance Phillips Bertha and her husband, Willie, all of Sumter; two sisters, Julia Phillips White of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Lillie Phillips Mike of Long Island, N.Y.; 36 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Earl Phillips; three sisters, Mary Phillips Johnson, Wilhelmena Phillips Liggons and Martha Phillips; and a brother, Sam Burl Phillips.
Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 101 S. Salem St., with the Rev. Larry C. Weston, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Dr. James Blassingame, the Rev. James H. Jackson III and the Rev. Alphonso Barker. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
The casket will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Thursday. Deacons of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers, with deaconesses and senior missionary serving as flower bearers.
The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Pastor Joan Phillips Murrill and Elder Oliver Jeff Murrill, 160 Harvey Drive.

William Levern “Bo-Dilly” Pringle Jr., 46, died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born July 16, 1955, in Sumter, he was a son of Mary Ruth Pringle Swinton and the late William L. Pringle Sr. and stepson of James Swinton. He attended Sumter County public schools and New York City school systems. He was a member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. In his youth, he and his family moved to New York, where he attended area churches.
Survivors besides his mother and stepfather include a son, Elvis Pringle of Sumter; a daughter, Tracy Johnson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two brothers, Willis Pringle and Elvis Pringle, both of Sumter; two sisters, Sylvia Jackson of Sumter and Peggy Pringle of Baltimore, Md.; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Bennie D. Pringle.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. today at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, U.S. 15 South, with Pastor Willie A. Wright Jr. officiating, assisted by the Rev. Leroy T. James. Burial will be in Bradford Cemetery.

Gertrude Bateman Thompson, widow of Ervin Lee Thompson, died Tuesday, March 26, 2002. She was 88.
Born in Gable, she was a daughter of the late Delgar Bateman and Minnie David Bateman.
Mrs. Thompson was a retired bookkeeper for McClellan’s Department Store.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Ellen Nelson Wingo, 80, wife of Leon Stanley Wingo, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, in Washington, D.C.
Born May 14, 1921, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Moses and Joella McDowell Nelson. Mrs. Wingo attended Sumter County public schools. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church before moving to Washington, D.C. where she joined Faith Presbyterian Church. She was a home-care nurse before retiring.
Survivors besides her husband include two daughters, Clara M. Nelson of Temple Hills, Md. and Mattie Smith of Chicago; six brothers, Moses Nelson Jr. of New York, David Nelson, Isaiah Nelson and Charles Nelson, all of Washington, Clifton Robinson of Sumter and Dennis Goodman of Temple Hills; a sister, Della Holmes of Sumter; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Born Oct. 17, 1923, in Sumter, he was a son of the late James Grant and Evelin Johnson Grant.

PEGGY D. CONLEY
Peggy D. Conley, 60, wife of Frank Conley, died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at her residence, 861 Carolina Ave.
Born Feb. 26, 1942, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Claude Swinton and Frances Cantey Swinton.
In her youth, she was a member of First Baptist Church in Sumter.
She was an active member in Sunday school, junior missionary, the usher board and the junior choir. She was also active with the civil rights movement, directed by the Rev. H.P. Sharper.
She received her education from the public schools of Sumter County. She was a 1959 graduate of Lincoln High School.
She was a member of the band, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and the library staff. She attended Bennett College in Greenville and the University of Seattle in Seattle, Wash.
She continued her education at Central Carolina Technical College in Sumter where she received certification as a nursing assistant with a concentration in computer science. She was employed by the Internal Revenue Services for 13 years as a secretary and the naval department in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Survivors include three sisters and a brother-in-law, Theresa Swinton Wilson and Mary Swinton Jackson, both of Sumter, and the Rev. William and Wilhelmenia Swinton Greene of Anchorage, Alaska.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home Inc., officiated by the Rev. William Greene, assisted by the Rev. Robert E. Galloway.

BISHOPVILLE — Joseph Terrell Jr., 68, widower of Barbara Valerie Collins Terrell, died March 30, 2002 at his home in Bishopville.
Born Oct. 27, 1933, in Nashville, Tennessee, he was a son of the late Joseph Sr. and Daisy Terrell.
He was educated in the public school system in Nashville and worked many years as an industrial worker in New York before he retired in 1993.
After his retirement, he and his wife moved to Bishopville, where he remained until his death.
Survivors include two sons, Ronnie Lee Newsome and Tommy Lee Terrell, both of Nashville; a daughter, Helen Marie Terrell of Nashville; a sister, Rosia Chaffin of New York; a stepson, Gary Edward Collins of Bishopville; and a host of grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Terrell.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 4, at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Community Funeral Home. Bishop Jeffrey Johnson will officiate.
Burial will be in Brown Town Cemetery in Bishopville.
