Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com FINLEY -- Funeral services for Mrs. Alma Wilhemina Duke Todd Finley, 102, of White Rock, South Carolina, were held Wednesday, April 30, 1997, in Talbert-Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel. Burial followed in the Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. Born in Kingstree, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Cleveland Duke, Sr. and Martha Wilhemina Flagler Duke. She was a former teacher with St. Stephens Grammar School and a former nursing assistant and a member of Belmont Baptist Church. Surviving is one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Ann Todd Martin of Columbia.
DuBOSE -- Marvin McBride DuBose, Sr., 93, died Tuesday, April 29, 1997, in the Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Graveside services were held Friday, May 2, 1997, in the Manning Cemetery, conducted by Rev. Murray Gibbons and directed by Stephens Funeral Home of Manning. Born in Cades, he was a son of the late James W. and Pattie Baker DuBose. He was a retired agent for Life of Georgia for 34 years and was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Spartanburg. Survivors are: his wife, Tappy Lesesne DuBose of Spartanburg; one son, Marvin M. DuBose, Jr. of Spartanburg; and three sisters, Eunice D. Smith of Cades; Annie Lou Gibbons of New Zion; and Vernon D. Montgomery of Greeleyville. Memorials may be made to the Greeleyville United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 247, Greeleyville, S.C. 29056
BARR -- Funeral services for Friday Barr were held April 24, 1997, at Elijah United Methodist Church in Kingstree, conducted by Rev. Rufus L. Snowden. Burial followed at Elijah United Methodist Church Cemetery directed by McClary's Funeral Home of Kingstree. Mr. Barr, a retired employee of Jade Garden, died April 20, 1997, at his residence in Kingstree. He was born September 5, 1905, in Kingstree, the son of the late Sarah Cooper and John Barr. He was a member of Elijah United Methodist Church. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Susan Barr of Kingstree; four daughters, Mrs. Minnie Cooper of Dillon; Mrs. Sarah Williams and Mrs. Naomi Fulton, both of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and Mrs. Susan Bradley of Kingstree; one son, Johnny Barr of Kingstree; one sister, Mrs. Susan Pressley of Kingstree; and one brother, Felder Barr of Kingstree.
RODGERS -- Funeral services for Mrs. Nellie Mae Chatman Rodgers were held Saturday, May 3, 1997, at St. James Baptist Church in Greeleyville, conducted by Rev. Amos Matthews and Rev. Albert Rose. Burial followed in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Greeleyville directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mrs. Rodgers, 71, died Monday, April 28, 1997, at the Carolinas Hospital System-Kingstree. She was born November 10, 1925, in Greeleyville, the daughter of the late Deacon Oscar Chatman, Sr. and Deaconess Alma Montgomery Chatman. She graduated from Williamsburg Training School (C.E. Murray). She completed nurse's aid training at Williamsburg Technical College. She was a member of Saint Asia Baptist Church where she was a usher and secretary of the Missionary Society. She retired after working for a number of years as a nurse's aid at Williamsburg County Memorial Hospital in Kingstree. Survivors are: two sons, Ernest Rodgers, Jr. of Conway; and James Oscar Rodgers of Florence; three daughters, Wilhelmena Rodgers of the home; Mrs. Retha Thompson of Columbia; and Mrs. Mildred Gamble of Greeleyville; six brothers, James Chatman, Oscar Chatman, Jr., Lucious Chatman and Emanuel Chatman, all of Washington, D.C.; Clyde Chatman and Alex Chatman, both of Greeleyville; and six sisters, Mrs. Julia Gist of Raleigh, N.C.; Mrs. Lois Hill of Jacksonville, Fl.; Mrs. Martha King of Manning; Mrs. Okla Kenely of Sumter; Mrs. Anna Woods and Mrs. Evelyn Richardson, both of Greeleyville.
WHITE -- Sally Ard White of Jacksonville, Florida, 85, died April 28, 1997. Funeral services for Mrs. White were held May 1, 1997, in Arlington Memorial Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida. Mrs. White was born in Florence, the daughter of the late Joseph and Florence Hines Ridgelle. Survivors are: her husband, Bob P. White of Jacksonville, Florida; one son, Carl L. Ard of Starke, Florida; three daughters, Reba Ard Haller of Union, Ohio; Pat Hanniford Brown of Manning; and Betty Ard Spence of Jacksonville, Florida; and one adopted son, Donald R. White of Jacksonville, Florida.
SINGLETARY -- Funeral services for Ricky Singletary, Sr. were held Friday, May 16, 1997, at Lake Point United Methodist Church in Lake City, conducted by Rev. Kenneth G. Smith. Burial followed at the White Oak Cemetery in Lake City directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mr. Singletary, 28, died Saturday, May 10, 1997, at the Carolinas Hospital System-Lake after injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born August 20, 1969, in Lake City, the son of Norman Bob and Katherine McFadden Singletary, Sr. He was employed as a construction worker in Myrtle Beach. Survivors, in addition to his parents of Lake City, are: his wife, Mrs. Robin Denise Wells Singletary of the home; two daughters, Yashika Singletary and Katherine Singletary, both of the home; one son, Ricky Singletary of the home; three brothers, Norman Bob Singletary, Jr. of Hemingway; Derrick Singletary and Brian Singletary; both of Lake City; two sisters, Mrs. Alisa McKnight of Lake City; and Brittany Muldrow of Kingstree; his paternal grandparents, Willie Joe and Annie Bell Brown McFadden of Lake City; his great-grandmother, Mrs. Evelyn Scott of Miami, Fl.; and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Jennie Daniels of Kingstree.
KEELS -- Funeral services for Ernest Keels were held Sunday, May 18, 1997, at Union Baptist Church in Salters, conducted by Rev. Willie Bryant. Burial followed in the Rockyford Cemetery in Salters directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mr. Keels, 59, died Tuesday, May 13, 1997, at the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital in Charleston. He was born May 21, 1939, in Williamsburg County, the son of the late Jethro Keels, Sr. and Marie Keels. He graduated from Williamsburg County Training School (C.E. Murray High School). He was a member of Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church. He was a former member of the Pride of Foreston Masonic Lodge No. 296. He retired after working over 20 years as a forklift operator at Georgia-Pacific in Russellville. He was a former bus driver at C.E. Murray High School. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Catherine Patrick Keels of the home; six sons, Ernest Dennis Keels, Ernest Vern Keels and Harry Lee Pendergrass, all of Thomasville, N.C.; Dwayne Patrick of Greeleyville; Arthur Lee Patrick and Jerry Patrick, both of Rochester, N.Y.; three daughters, Ernestine Keels and Patricia Pendergrass, both of Thomasville, N.C.; and Mrs. Loretta Patrick-Woods of Greeleyville; two sisters, Mrs. Lucille Edwards of Greeleyville; and Mrs. Louise McFadden of New York City, N.Y.; and one brother, Jethro Keels of Miami, FL.
DeLANY -- Mrs. Anne C. DeLany, 72, of Burlington, N.C. died Thursday, May 15, 1997, at her residence. Memorial services for Mrs. DeLany will be held Friday, May 23, 1997, at Twin Lakes Chapel, conducted by Dr. Clyde Christmas and Sister Cathy Fanslau. A cryptside service will be held at the U.S. Naval Academy Columbarium in Annapolis, Md. on Wednesday, May 28, 1997, conducted by Dr. M. Douglas Girardeau. Mrs. DeLany was born in Gainsville, TX, the daughter of the late William C. Culp and Thelma Stephens Culp. She was a member of Front Street United Methodist Church and the Shakespeare Club in Danville, Va. Survivors are: her husband, Capt. Walter S. DeLany, Jr., USN (retired) of the home; one daughter, Mary Anne DeLany of Larkspur, CA.; and one brother, Dr. George H. Culp of Austin, TX.
FRYAR -- C. H. Fryar, 70, died Wednesday, May 14, 1997, at his residence. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 17, 1997, in the Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Kingstree Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery. Mr. Fryar was born in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Clinton and Nettie Gause Fryar. He was a security guard with Colonial Rubber Co. and a retired farmer. Survivors are: one daughter, Dorothy A. Pardee of Florence; and one son, C. Wayne Fryar of Hartsville.
WALKER -- Mrs. Edna Parker Walker, 90, widow of Cecil R. Walker, died Saturday, May 17, 1997, in Greenville. Funeral services were held Monday, May 19, 1997, in the Lane United Methodist Church. Burial followed in Union Presbyterian Church Cemetery directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mrs. Walker was born in Lane, a daughter of the late Edmund Jones and Mary Alice Whitfield Parker. She was a member of Lane United Methodist Church. Survivors are: two daughters, Mrs. Reidie Hogan of Greenville; and Mrs. Mattie Bradford of Sumter; and one son, Cecil P. Walker of Lane.
