Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com MARY MOORE MOUZON -- Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Moore Mouzon were held Sun., Sept. 24, 2000, at St. John A.M.E. Church in Kingstree, conducted by the Rev. B. L. Green. Burial followed in the churchyard cemetery directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mrs. Mouzon died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, at the Lake City-Scranton Healthcare Facility. She was born August 2, 1923, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Willie and Celia Burgess Moore. She was a member of Saint John African Methodist Episcopal Church. She was married to the late Sam Mouzon. Her career in food service spanned more than 25 years. She was employed at the Catholic Church Springbank Community in Kingstree. Survivors are: three sisters, Mattie McFadden of Lake City; Mrs. Louise Washington of Brooklyn, NY; and Mrs. Annie Estelle Barnes of Long Beach, CA; two brothers, William Moore of Dazell, SC; and Willie D. Moore of West Haven, CT; and one adopted son, Samuel George Mouzon of New Haven, CT.
ANNA KINDER GRAHAM -- Mrs. Anna Mariee Kinder Graham, 72, wife of the late S. Cleo Graham, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, in a Florence hospital. Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, in the Gilead Free Will Baptist Church. Burial followed in the Lake City Memorial Park. Mrs. Graham was born in the Hebron Community, a daughter of the late Edward Lamar and Bernice Coker Kinder. She was a former manager of Crown's 5-10 Cent Store and a clerk for Heidenšs Drugstore. She was a member of Gilead Free Will Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for over 40 years. She was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. Survivors are: one daughter, Patsy Mariee Graham Barnett of Lake City; three sons, Dexter Graham and G. Larry Graham, both of Scranton; and Samuel E. "Sammy" Graham of Lake City; and two sisters, Clara McCutcheon of Scranton and Inez Graham of Cades.
ANNIE MOORE MILLER -- Funeral services for Mrs. Annie Moore Miller were held Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church in Salters, conducted the Rev. James E. Council. Burial followed at Salters Cemetery directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mrs. Miller, 75, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, in the home of her niece and nephew, Joe and Ernestine Gill of Salters. She was born February 23, 1925, in Salters, to the late Ben and Jessie Williams Moore. She was a member of St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church. She was a farmer for many years, until she moved to New York City, NY and became a domestic worker. Survivors are: an adopted daughter and son, Ernestine and Joe Gill of the home; and four sisters, Mrs. Ruth Brooks and Catherine Moore of Brooklyn, NY and Mrs. Hermener Gamble and Mrs. Edith Mabry of Salters.
LOUIS "TWEET" CAROLINA -- Funeral services for Louis "Tweet" Carolina were held Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, at St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Greeleyville, conducted by the Rev. Albert Rose, Jr., the Rev. Bernard Brown and the Rev. Harold Junes. Burial followed at the churchyard cemetery directed by Redmond-Richardson. Mr. Carolina, 85, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, at the Charleston Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Mount Pleasant. He was born June 12, 1915, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Thomas and Emma Smith Carolina. He was married to the late Mrs. Edna Dotts Carolina. He was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church. He was a farmer and Westvaco employee. Survivors are: sons, the Rev. Harold Junes of Charleston; Johnny Carolina of Martinville, VA; Herbert Lee Carolina of Johnsonville; and Willie Louis Carolina of Greeleyville.
ELLA CUNNINGHAM -- Funeral services for Mrs. Ella "Honey" Nesmith Cunningham were held Sat., Sept. 30, 2000, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Kingstree, conducted by the Rev. Willie Wilson. Burial followed at Greenlawn Cemetery in Kingstree directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mrs. Cunningham, 87, died Wed., Sept. 27, 2000, at the Carolinas Hospital System-Florence. She was born April 9, 1912, in Nesmith, to the late Henry and Eliza Nesmith. She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. She was married to the late Lucious Cunningham. Survivors are: two sons, James Cunningham and Murray Cunningham, both of Rochester, NY; four daughters, Mrs. Anna Lee McCutchen and Mrs. Callie McGill, both of Philadelphia, PA; Mrs. Mary Lee Dukes of Rochester, NY; and Mrs. Ella Alston of the home; a granddaughter, she helped raise, Ella Yvette Alston of the home; and two step-sisters, Mrs. Mattie Lou Morris of Nesmith; and Mrs. Rosa Lee Truheart of VA.
JOHNNY LEE BROWN -- Funeral services for Johnny Lee Brown were held on Saturday, September 30, 2000, at St. John Apostolic Church in Greeleyville, conducted by Bishop Kenneth Swaringer and Bishop Alex Palmer. Burial followed at Keels Cemetery in Greeleyville directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Brown, 45, died Monday, September 25, 2000, at his residence in Greeleyville. He was born June 17, 1955, in Greeleyville, a son of Thomas Brown and the late Peggy Jean Keels Brown. He was a graduate of C.E. Murray High School class of 1975. He was a former employee of Georgia Pacific in Russelville, SC. He served seven years active duty in the United States Army and 14 years in the South Carolina National Guard. At the time of his death, he was employed by Frank Lesesne. He was a member of St. John Apostolic Church. Survivors, in addition to his father and mother, Eloise Brown of Darlington, are: his wife, Mrs. Loretta Y. Brown of the home; two step-daughters, LaQuinta Marie Calloway of the home; and Ayasha Calloway of Henderson, KY; three brothers, Joe Brown of Greeleyville; Curtis Joe, Howard Johnson of Darlington; and two sisters, Mrs. Rosemary Dunn and Mrs. Betty Jean Rumph of Atlanta, GA.
CATHY JEAN McKENZIE FENTERS -- Cathy Jean McKenzie Fenters, 51, died Tuesday, September 26, 2000, at her residence. Funeral services for Mrs. Fenters were held Thursday, September 28, 2000, at the Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Mendel Stalvey. Burial followed at Smith Cemetery directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mrs. Fenters was born in Kingstree, a daughter of Mrs. Corrie Mae Coker McKenzie and the late Melton McKenzie. She attended Williamsburg County schools. Survivors, in addition to her mother of Kingstree, are: two sons, Jamie Fenters of Cades; and Douglas Fenters of Kingstree; one sister, Dorothy M. Gatlin of St. Stephen; and two brothers, Donnie McKenzie of Kingstree; and Bobby McKenzie of Florence.
JAMES LEON NEXSEN -- James Leon Nexsen, 79, died Wednesday, September 27, 2000, in a Florence hospital. Mr. Nexsen was born in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Leland L. and Eleida P. Nexsen. He retired from Carolina Power & Light Company as a lineman. He was a member of Kingstree First Baptist Church and was a Mason. Survivors are; his wife, Lurena B. Nexsen of Kingstree; one son, Steve A. Nexsen of Kingstree; four brothers, Leland R. Nexsen, Junior L. Nexsen, William E. Nexsen, all of Cades; and Paul D. Nexsen of Scranton; and five sisters, Margaret N. Disher of Kingstree; Betty N. Culick of Scranton; Eleida N. Burrows of Sumter; Alma M. Nexsen of Cades; and Mary N. Hewitt of Myrtle Beach.
MELVIN OKIE BUFKIN, JR. -- Funeral services for Melvin Okie Bufkin, Jr. were held Tuesday, October 3, 2000, at Kingstree National Guard Armory in Kingstree. Burial followed at Jehovah United Methodist Church Cemetery in Pineville. Mr. Bufkin, 42, died Wednesday, September 27, 2000, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia. He was born June 23, 1958, in Kingstree, a son of Melvin Okie Bufkin, Sr. and the late Onetha Bernice McGill Bufkin. He was a graduate of Kingstree Senior High School. He attended North Greenville Junior College and graduated from Morris College in Sumter, earning a bachelor of science degree in business administration. He was a member of Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church, where he served on the gospel choir, Pastoršs Aide Lodge and the Junior Trustee. He was a veteran of the US Army and served in the Persian Gulf War and in the National Guard No. 1052 D Transportation Company of Kingstree. He was a technical recruiter for the Kingstree National Guard Association. He was formerly employed as a training coordination instructor for CDL Training in Timmonsville, a certified production operator for Quality Control, Gates Rubber Co. in Moncks Corner, assistant manager of Big Lots Stores in Spartanburg; administrative assistant for Champus Insurance Co. in Florence; administrative assistant for Revco Drug Stores in Kingstree; and assistant manager of Food Lion Food Store in Kingstree. He was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and the Morris College Alumni Association. His many awards and affiliations included: The Army Commendation for Meritorious Service Exceptional Service Medal, Government Citation for Humanity, Medal of Honor Medal of National Defense, Ten Year Continuous Services Medal and captain of baseball team and Morris College Alumni Association. Survivors, in addition to his father of Kingstree, are: three sons, Melvin Okie Bufkin, III, of Pineville; Reginald Speights of Cades; and Rakeem Shemar Singletary of Camerontown, SC; two daughters, Marquetta Bufkin of Belville, MI; and Sierra Bufkin of Kingstree; his step-mother, Francine Bufkin of Kingstree; two brothers, Nathaniel Bufkin and Kenneth Bufkin, both of Kingstree; and three sisters, Mrs. Frances Henderson of Atlanta, GA; Lillian Wilson and Melissa Bufkin, both of Kingstree.
LYNN PHILLIPS SCHLOCK -- Lynn Phillips Schlock, 51, wife of Fred T. Schlock, died Tuesday, September 26, 2000, at her home. Graveside services were held Friday, September 29, 2000, at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Reuel Westbrook and directed by Harley Funeral Home. Born in Kingstree on March 14, 1949, she was a daughter of the late L. Coker and Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Brown Phillips. She graduated from Melbourne (Florida) High School in 1967, attended Lander College and worked for Abney Mills in the accounting department before her marriage to Fred. After living in Germany during her husband's service in the US Army, she worked as a ward secretary for Self Memorial Hospital. Later, she worked for many years in the advertising department of The Index-Journal. At the time of her death, she was employed by Winn-Dixie. Survivors are: her husband of the home; one daughter, Lisa Marie Schlock of the home; four sisters, Iris Hill of Neptune Beach, FL; Margaret Nicholson of Greenwood; Anne Prosser of Mt. Holly, NC; and Lois Hodge of Sumter; and one brother, Thomas C. Phillips of Melbourne, FL.
