Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com EDSELL RUSH -- Funeral sevices for Edsell "SL" Rush, conducted by the Rev. Samuel Burgess, were held on Saturday, October 27, 2001, at the Greater St. Stephens Baptist Church, in Lake City. Burial, directed by Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home, followed in the McKenzie Cemetery, Morris St. Extension, in Lake City. Mr. Rush, 71, died Tuesday, October 23, 2001, at a Lake City hospital. He was born August 14, 1930, in Olanta, a son of the late Solomon and Eula Mae Singletary Rush. He was retired from Thompson Oil Company and was a member of Greater St. Stephens Baptist Church. Surviving are: his wife, Mrs. Marie A. Rush; two sons, Irell Rush of Lake City and Leroy Rush of Scranton; three daughters, Ms. Sally Burgess of Lake City, Mrs. Ida Washington of Columbia and Mrs. Lou Ann Pyatt of Columbia; four sisters, Mrs. Oreatis Hannah of Raleigh NC, Mrs. Eheleen Wafford of Winston-Salem, NC and Mrs. Marie Tucker of Teaneck NJ and Mrs. Luvenia Wilson of Lake City; and a brother, Larry Rush of Olanta.
WENDELL MCELVEEN -- Funeral services for Lawrence Wendell McElveen, 73, were held on Sat. Oct. 27, 2001, in the Hebron United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Brockington Funeral Home, followed in the church cemetery. Mr. McElveen died Wed., Oct. 24, 2001 in a Lake City hospital. He was born in Williamsburg County, a son of the late J. Ralph and Jessie Smith McElveen. He was a graduate of Hebron High School and attended Clemson University. He retired from Life of Georgia as Staff Manager after 37 years and retired as Williamsburg County Magistrate also after 37 years. He was a life-long member of Hebron United Methodist Church where he held various offices over the years. He was chairman of the Hebron Recreation Committee since its inception, a former member of the Lake City Lions Club, a member of Prosserıs Prayer Breakfast Club, the Methodist Menıs Club of Hebron United Methodist Church, Hardee's Afternoon Coffee Club. He was also an Army veteran. He was married first to the late Anease Barrineau McElveen. Surviving are: his wife, Ellen Shaw McElveen of Cades; two sons, Roger W. McElveen and Charles E. McElveen, both of Cades; two daughters, Julie Newell of Myrtle Beach and Barbara Beerer of Walhalla; two sisters, Elena McElveen of Olanta and Jean Abreo of Aiken; three step-children, Michael Shaw of Conway, Pam Wilburn of Stone Mountain, GA and Charles Shaw of Anchorage, AK.
ELSIE FOOTMAN -- Funeral services for Mrs. Elsie Lesane Footman, conducted by the Rev. Bonus Miller, were held Saturday, Ocober 27, 2001, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Greeleyville. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at the churchıs cemetery. Mrs. Footman, 97, died Tuesday, October 23, 2001, at Ron McNair Nursing Facility in Lake City. She was born June 10, 1904, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Isaac Lesane and Mellie McBride Lesane. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and a member of the Missionary Society. Survivors are: two grandchildren whom she reared, Lue Ella Chandler of Kingstree; and Sandra Keels of Greeleyville.
TAPPY DuBOSE -- Tappy Lesesne DuBose, 95, widow of Marvin DuBose, Sr., died Thursday, October 25, 2001, at White Oak Nursing Center in Spartanburg. Graveside services, conducted by the Rev. Murray Gibbons, were held Sunday, October 28, 2001, at the Manning Cemetery. Born April 27, 1906, in Summerton, she was a daughter of the late John W. and Julia Anderson Lesesne. She was a graduate of Winthrop College, taught in Williamsburg County schools and was a former employee of Winthrop College. Mrs. DuBose served 21 years in the college book store. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Spartanburg. Survivors are: one son, Marvin DuBose, Jr. of Moore, SC; and also one sister, Sue Mincey of Columbia.
CLEO FULMORE -- Funeral services for Cleo "Bubba" Fulmore, conducted by the Rev. Nathaniel Evans, were held Tuesday, October 30, 2001, at Faith United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Restlawn Cemetery in Lake City. Mr. Fulmore, 65, died Thursday, October 25, 2001, in Lake City. He was born March 14, 1936, in Kingstree, a son of the late Rich Fulmore and Elizabeth Brown Fulmore. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Men. He was employed at Baxter Laboratories Inc., for 23 years. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Bobbie Jene Fulmore of Kingstree; two sons, Cleo Fulmore, Jr., of Kingstree; and Chuck D. Fulmore of Lake City; one brother, Raymond Fulmore of Kingstree; four sisters, Mrs. Doshia Cooper of Springfield Gardens, NY; Dr. Willie Mae Carter of Kingstree; Mrs. Jerome Porter of Ohio; and Mrs. Mable McClam of North Carolina; and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Minnie William Scott of Kingstree.
R. P. COOPER, JR. -- Robert Peter Cooper, Jr., 75, died Sunday, November 11, 2001, at his residence. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. J. Robert Huggins and the Rev. Murray W. Powell, were held Wed., Nov. 14, at Sutton United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Andrews Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home, followed at the churchyard. Mr. Cooper was born September 5, 1926, in Jamestown, a son of the late Robert Peter Cooper and Blanche Conway Gamble Cooper and step-son of the late Nettie Knight Cooper. He graduated from Andrews High School and Clemson University. He was an employee of the Farmers Home Administration, a division of the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture for 30 years and retired September 1985. He was also a farmer and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was member of Sutton United Methodist Church and was church treasure for over 40 years. Survivors are: his wife, Clara Rudd Cooper of Andrews; one daughter, Cindy Cooper Youell of Altamonte Springs, FL; one son, Robert E. Cooper of Andrews; and one brother, Donald E. Cooper of Andrews.
DOROTHY NESMITH -- GLOVER -- Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Mae "Dot" Nesmith-Glover, conducted by the Rev. Willie Wilson, were held Wed., Nov. 13, 2001, at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Redmond Richardson Funeral Home, followed in Greenlawn Cemetery. Mrs. Glover, 56, died Fri., Nov. 9, 2001 at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. Mrs. Nesmith-Glover received her formal education in the Williamsburg County public schools and worked for several years as a health care provider. She was a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Lady Hattie Wilson Chapter No. 224, Order of the Eastern Star of Bronx, NY. She was married to Lee Morris Glover. Survivors include: two daughters, Ms. Annie Mae Nesmith of Bronx, NY and Ms. Gail M. Frazier of the United States Air Force, Washington State; three sisters, Mrs. Lillie Mae Woods and Ms. Anna Pearl Miller, both of Kingstree, and Mrs. Brenda Burgess of Hemingway; four brothers, Cleveland Nesmith, Jr. and Victor Nesmith, both of Kingstree, and Horace Nesmith and Anthony Nesmith, both of Bronx, NY.
OLA WARR -- Ola Lee Moore Warr, 77, died Saturday., November 17, 2001, at a Kingstree hospital. Funeral services were held Tues., Novemberm 20, 2001, at the Kingstree Church of God. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Warr was born January 18, 1924, in Turbeville, a daughter of the late James B. Moore and Frances Gibbons Moore Ard. Mrs. Scott was a member of Kingstree Church of God. She was the widow of Archie Warr of the Warsaw Community of Williamsburg County. Survivors are: one daughter, Charlotte W. McCutchen of Scranton; three half-brothers, Vernon Ard and Zingle Ard, Jr., both of Rock Hill and James D. Ard of Lancaster; two half-sisters, Carrie A. Auten and Vera A. Culp, both of Rock Hill; one step-brother, Luther Ard of Dinbua, CA; and one step-sister, Laura A. Westmoreland of Rock Hill.
MARY SCOTT -- Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Parson Scott, conducted by the Rev. Standy McCrea, were held Wednesday, November 21, 2001, at North Kingstree Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Greenlawn Cemetery. Mrs. Scott, 91, died Friday, November 16, 2001, at Williamsburg Regional Hospital. She was born in November of 1910, in Greeleyville. Mrs. Scott was a daughter of the late Boykin Parson and Lula Cantey. Mrs. Scott was a member of North Kingstree Baptist Church and the Tribe of Noah. Survivors are: two daughters, Mrs. Elease Coleman of Rockwell, MD; and Linda White of Kingstree; and one son, Lorenza Scott of Jacksonville, FL.
WILLIE CAIN, JR. -- Funeral services for Willie James Cain, Jr., conducted by Bishop Amos Major, were held Wednesday, November 21, at House of God Number One Holiness Church. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at White Oak Cemetery. Mr. Cain, 44, died Thursday, November 15, 2001, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia. He was born March 14, 1957, in Kingstree, a son of Willie James Cain, Sr. and the late Dorothy Camp Cain. He was a 1975 graduate of Kingstree Senior High School. Mr. Cain was a member of the House of God Number One Holiness Church. Survivors, in addition to his father of Lake City, are: his wife, Mrs. Sandra Fulton Cain of Columbia; two sons, Benjamin Fulton and Willie James Cain, III, both of Columbia; one daughter, Alyeshia D. Cain of Columbia; four brothers, Samuel Cain of Bishopville; Wendell Cain, Alphonso Cain and Alpheus Cain, all of Gastonia, NC; and four sisters, Linda Cain of Columbia; Nancy Cain and Shanette Cain, both of Kingstree; and Barbara Cain of Scranton.
