Willie Bryant. were held Fri., March 22, 2002, at Union Baptist church in Salters. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Rocky Ford Cemetery. Mrs. McBride, 67, died Sat., March 16, 2002, at her residence in Salters. She was born Feb. 2, 1935, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Matthew and Daphine Staggers Patrick. She was a member of Union Baptist Church where she was a member of the Usher Board and a deaconess. She was also a member of Liberty Work Chapter No. 171, Order of the Eastern Star and the YMCA No. 17 of Greeleyville. She was employed for a number of years at Greeleyville Elementary School. Survivors are: her husband, Johnny McBride of the home; two sons, Franklin McBride of Kingstree; and Charles McBride of Salters; one daughter, Barbara Gamble of Salters; three brothers, Charlie Patrick of Salters; John Arthur Patrick of New Haven, Conn.; and George Patrick of Brooklyn, NY; and four sisters, Mrs. Ethel Grant of Georgetown; Mrs. Margaret P. Griffin and Mrs. Catherine P. Keels, both of Salters; and Mrs. Lena P. Sumpter of Pineville.
GENEVIEVE BROCKINGTON -- Genevieve Mobley Brockington, 76, widow of Franklin S. Brockington, died Wed., March 20, 2002, in a Kingstree nursing center. Graveside services, directed by Morris Funeral Home, were held Fri., March 22, 2002, in the Nesmith Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Brockington was born in Nesmith, a daughter of the late John Mobley and Carrie Woodberry Mobley. She was a homemaker, a member of the Nesmith Baptist Church and a graduate of Indiantown High School. Survivors are: three sons, Frank Brockington, Johnnie Brockington and Michael S. Brockington; one daughter, Mickey B. Blanton; one brother, Liston Mobley; and three sisters, Jeep McCutcheon, Rosa Dean and Hazel Hughes.
JIMMY TILTON -- Jimmy William Tilton, 54, died Wed., March 20, 2002, in a Florence hospital. Funeral services were held Sat., March 23, 2002, at Mt. Elon Free Will Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Morris Funeral Home, followed at Berea Baptist Church cemetery. Mr. Tilton was born in Florence, a son of Lottie Bazen Tilton and the late Alexander Tilton. He was employed by ABB as a tool and dye maker. He was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War, a member of Mt. Elon Free Will Baptist Church, a deacon and member of the church board, a graduate of Hannah -Pamplico High School and Florence-Darlington Tech. Survivors, in addition to his mother of Pamplico, are: his wife, Linda Hardwick Tilton of the home; one son, Bradley C. Tilton of Effingham; one daughter, Tabatha D. Tilton of Florence; and three sisters, Mary Ann T. Bellflowers of Effingham; Betty T. Edgeworth of Scranton; and Shirley T. Reardon of Kingstree.
RENA McALISTER -- Rena Bell Nettles Powell McAlister, 85, widow of Pervis D. McAlister, died Wed., March 20, 2002, at her home. Funeral services were held Sat., March 23, 2002, at Mill Branch Free Will Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Morris Funeral Home, followed at Power-Durant Cemetery. Mrs. Powell was born in Johnsonville, a daughter of the late Robert Pelzer Nettles and Lottie Estelle Powell Nettles. She was a homemaker, a member of the Mill Branch Free Will Baptist Church, a member of the Womenšs Bible class and attended Florence County schools. She was pre-deceased by her first husband James A. Powell. Survivors are: four sons, Bruster Powell of Lakeland, Fla.; Archie Powell of Johnsonville; Malcolm Powell of Woodinville, Wa.; and James Allen Powell of Pamplico; two daughters, Fannie J. Poston of Pamplico; and Billie F. Ford of Florence; and three sisters, Leota N. OšNeal and Basil N. Powell, both of Johnsonville.; and Levond N. Owens of Hemingway.
MARY JOHNSON -- Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Dukes Johnson, conducted by the Rev. Benjamin Miller, were held Tues., March 26, 2002, at Old Mt. Zion AME Church. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Friendship Cemetery in Nesmith. Mrs. Johnson died March 19, 2002, in St. Petersburg, Fla. She was born Jan. 3, 1935, a daughter of the late Melvin Dukes and Mary McClary Dukes. She was married to the late James Dowling. She was a member of Friendship Mission-ary Baptist Church in St. Petersburg, Fla., where she served on the Usher Board. Survivors are: three sons, Harry Johnson of St. Petersburg, Fla.; Bruce Johnson and Virgil Johnson, both of Charleston; two daughters, Mrs. Claudette Dowling and Mrs. Joyce Miller of Atlanta, Ga; three brothers, Sam Wilson of Newport News, Va.; Clifford Wilson of Holly Hill, Md; and Theodore Wilson of Clearwater, Fla.; and one sister, Mrs. Edna Mae Jones of Philadelphia, Pa.
PATSY SHAW -- Funeral services for Mrs. Patsy F. Shaw, conducted by the Rev. Willie Wilson, were held Fri., March 22, 2002, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Greenlawn Cemetery. Mrs. Shaw died March 14, 2002, at Westhoss Hospital in Coco, Fla. She was born Sept. 11, 1939, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Samuel Shaw. She was a graduate of Tomlinson High School, class of 1960. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
BERTHA JOHNSON -- Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Mae Carroway Johnson, conducted by the Rev. C. L. Grant and the Rev. Norman Gamble, were held Mon., March 25, 2002, at Central Missionary Baptist Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Rocky Ford Cemetery. Mrs. Johnson, 74, died Mon., March 18, 2002, at Carolinašs Hospital System-Lake City. She was born Sept. 27, 1927, in Clarendon, a daughter of the late Elouise Carroway Gamble and step-daughter of the late Sam Gamble, Sr. She was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church and served on the Usher Board. She was married to the late Isaac "Son" Johnson. Survivors are: one son, Joe Lewis Johnson; one step-brother, Dea. Sam Gamble, Jr., of Salters; and one step-sister, Mrs. Carrie Bryant of Baltimore, Md.
JULIAN HARDEE -- Julian "Mitch" Hardee, 76, widower of Imogene Stuckey Hardee, died Thurs., March 21, 2002, at Life Care Center of Columbia. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Joseph Poston, were held Tues., March 26, 2002, at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church near Greeleyville. Burial, directed by Stephens Funeral Home, followed at the church cemetery. Born June 27, 1925, in Kingstree, Mr. Hardee was a son of the late John Otto Hardee and Bessie Player Hardee. He was a retired certified life insurance underwriter and attended the University of South Carolina. Mr. Hardee was a World War II Army veteran and a member of Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church in Greeleyville. Survivors are: one son, Mark Hardee of Columbia; one daughter, Genie Hardee of Asheville, NC; three sisters, Donna Pratt of Florence; Mary Moreland of Aiken and Reah Carmichael of Glendale, Calif.; and two brothers, John Hardee of Hollywood; and Fred Hardee of Asheville, NC.
MARY TAYLOR -- Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Smith Taylor, conducted by the Rev. Roosevelt Geddis, were held Sat., Feb. 16, 2002, at St. John United Methodist Church in Lake City. Burial, directed by Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home, followed at the family plot of the White Oak Cemetery. Mrs. Taylor, 75, died Feb. 8, 2002, at Commander Nursing Home in Florence. She was born Sept. 16, 1926, in Florence County, a daughter of the late the Rev. Warren and Martha Ann Wilson Smith. Survivors are: one daughter, Mary Sue Hannah of Taledo, OH; one brother, Joseph Smith of Lake City; and two sisters, Mrs. Delease S. Simon of Lake City and Annie Mae McNeil of Dunn, NC.
OTIS BURROWS -- Funeral services for Clarence Otis Burrows, 80, were held Wed., Feb. 20, 2002, at Union Presbyterian Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Kingstree Memorial Gardens. Mr. Burrows died Sun. Feb. 17, 2002 in a Florence hospital. He was born in Williamsburg County, a son of Robert S. Burrows and Mary Catherine K. Burrows. He was a veteran of World War II, a Mason and a member of the American Legion. He was a retired sales representative for American Pet Food Company and was an Elder Emeritus at Union Presbyterian Church in Salters. Survivors are: his wife, Grace Cribbs Burrows of Kingstree; and two daughters, Susan B. Holliday of Kingstree; and Linda B. Lund of Anderson.
