Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 4, 2000, in the Camp Branch Church of God of Prophecy. Burial followed in the Floydıs Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery directed by Brockington Funeral Home. Mrs. Matthews was born in Bethel, SC, a daughter of the late Eugene and Lilly Lynch Kirby. She was a homemaker and a member of Kirby Mission. Survivors are: two sons, Sonny Matthews of Manning; and Randy Matthews of Lake City; three daughters, Wanda Parker, Sondra Matthews and Sharlene McLendon, all of Lake City; two sisters, Margaret Kirby and Barbara Osborne, both of Lake City; and three brothers, Manning Kirby, Richard Kirby and Roger Kirby, all of Lake City.
DAISY CHANDLER -- Funeral services for Mrs. Daisy Ruth Felder Chandler, conducted by the Elder Thomas Plowden, were held Sat., July 13, 2002, at Bibleway Temple in Lane. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Gordon Cemetery in Lane. Mrs. Chandler, 74, died Fri., July 5, 2002, at Williamsburg Regional Hospital in Kingstree. She was born in Salters, a daughter of the late Isaiah Felder and Lillie Nancy McDowell Felder. She was married to the late Willie Oliver Chandler. She was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was a member of Westside Church of Christ of Rochester, New York. She was employed by the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York. Survivors are: four sons, James Chandler, Issac Chandler, Willie Chandler, Jr., and Johnny Chandler, all of Rochester, New York; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Ruth McLaughlin and Mrs. Norma Reese of Lakeland, Florida; two brothers, Isiah Felder, Jr., of Salters; and Mancy Felder of Rochester, New York; and four sisters, Mrs. Lillie Mae Scott of Kingstree; Mrs. Margaret McClary of Rochester, New York; Mrs. Pearl Murray of Salters; and Mrs. Mary White of Orlando, Florida.
SARAH MONTGOMERY -- Funeral services for Sarah Pressley Montgomery, conducted by the Rev. William McClary, were held Thursday, July 11, 2002, at Mt. Zion Apostolic Faith Mission Holiness Church. Burial, directed by Pressleyıs Funeral Home, followed at Greenlawn Cemetery. Mrs. Montgomery, 78, died Thurs., July 4, 2002, in Brooklyn, New York. She was born March 23, 1924, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Dora Pressley Kinder and Joe Kinder. She was educated in the public school system of Williamsburg County. Mrs. Montgomery was a member of the Holy House of Prayer in Brooklyn, New York, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Pastorıs Aid Committee. After working for 40 years, she retired from Kings County Hospital. Survivors are: her husband Charles Montgomery of the home; two children, Daniel Montgomery and Shirley Montgomery, both of Brooklyn, New York; and one step-sister, Flossie Kinder of Florida.
LUE WILSON -- Funeral services for Mrs. Lue Brane Wilson, 101, conducted by the Rev. Gilbert DeKine, were held Sat., July 13, 2002, at Hickory Grove A.M.E. Church in Cades. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Spring Bank Cemetery. Mrs. Wilson, widow of George Benjamin Wilson, died Sun., July 7, 2002, at the Ron McNair Nursing Facility in Lake City. She was born May 31, 1901, in Cades, a daughter of the late A. W. and Leola Graham Brane. She attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was a member of Hickory Grove A.M.E. Church. Survivors are: two daughters, Sharon Wilson of Columbia; and Fannie Wilson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
SANDERS SWINTON, JR. -- Funeral services for Sanders Swinton, Jr., conducted by the Rev. Virgil Hammett and the Rev. Oneal Miller, were held Monday, July 15, 2002, at St. Phillip A.M.E. Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Smith-Cooper Cemetery in Salters. Mr. Swinton died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at his home in Salters. He was born May 27, 1954, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Sanders and Hallie Swinton. He received his education in the public schools of Williamsburg-Blakely. He was a member of St. Phillip A.M.E. Church. Survivors are: one special friend, Priscilla White; two sons, Sidney Swinton of Charlotte, North Carolina; Jerome White of Myrtle Beach; four brothers, Tommy Swinton and Harry Swinton, both of Washington, DC; Robert Swinton of Salters and Clybert Swinton of Pineville; and three sisters, Matilda McCrea of Washington, D.C., Mary Lee Brown of Salters and Racheal Swinton of Alexandria, Virginia; and two step-daughters, Alliah White and Lillian Sanders of Salters.
EUNICE SMITH -- Mrs. Eunice Dubose Smith, 99, widow of Sidney P. Smith, Sr., died Sat., July 13, 2002, in a Kingstree nursing home. Funeral services were held Tues., July 16, 2002, at Hebron United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at the church cemetery. Mrs. Smith was born in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Jim and Patty B. Dubose. She attended Hebron schools and was a member of Hebron United Methodist Church where she taught the Young Peopleıs Sunday school class for many years and was a member of the Afternoon Circle of the Church. Survivors are: three sons, William B. Smith of Jacksonville, Florida; James Robert Smith of Camden; and Dr. Sidney P. Smith, Jr., of Midway, Georgia; and one sister, Mrs. Vernon D. Montgomery of Summerville.
FLORENCE COWART -- Florence Marshall Cowart, 89, widow of Cecil Cowart, died Friday, July 12, 2002, in a Sumter hospital. Funeral services were held Sunday, July 14, 2002, at the Kingstree United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Williamsburg Cemetery. Mrs. Cowart was born in Sumter County, a daughter of Carrie Weatherly Marshall and James Walter Marshall, Sr. She attended Sumter County schools and was a retired bookkeeper for the Williamsburg County Auditor. She was a member of Kingstree United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She had been a resident at Covenant Place in Sumter for three months. She was first married to the late J.O. (Pat) Fowler. Survivors are: one step-daughter, Cecilia C. Verner of Lake Wales, Florida; and one sister, Carrie Mae Perry of Kingstree; five nieces, Virginia Anne McIntosh of Kingstree, Estelle Auld of Columbia, Karen Maurice of Irmo, Mary Lib Parker of North Carolina and Mary Brewer of Moncks Corner; two nephews, Glenn Marshall and Mack Marshall of Columbia; and two good friends, Pearl Dew and Mary Freeman of Kingstree.
DEBBIE GREEN -- Funeral services for Mrs. Debbie "Tay" Green, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Herman Gibson, were held Sat., Aug. 3, 2002, at New Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at New Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Green, 43, died July 28, 2002, at Tuomey Hospital. She was born April 5, 1959, in Kingstree, a daughter of Mrs. Mary Green and the late Nathaniel "Skeet" Green. She was employed by Baxter and later she was employed in the hotel industry as a housekeeper. She attended the public schools of Williamsburg County and graduated from St. Mark High School. Survivors, in addition to her mother of Kingstree, are: her husband, Derrick Green of the home; two children, Master Zachray Green and Tameka Green, both of the home; two brothers, Michael Green of Salters; and Herman Green of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Mrs. Patricia Green and Brenda Green, both of Kingstree; and her father-in-law, Ollie Tucker of Georgetown.
STANLEY GOLDEN -- Funeral services for Stanley Golden, conducted by Bishop Kenneth Swaringer, were held Sat., Aug. 3, 2002, at Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home Chapel in Kingstree. Mr. Golden, 45, died Sat., July 27, 2002, in Richland County Memorial Hospital. He was born June 20, 1957, in Trio, a son of Mrs. Mary E. Bynum and the late Charles Gibson and reared by Marion Golden. He attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was employed as a transportation laborer for St. Stephen Meat Packing Company. He attended St. John Apostolic church. Survivors, in addition to his mother of Brooklyn, New York, are: his wife, Mrs. Rosa G. Golden of Greeleyville; and his sister, Sylvia Gibson of Brooklyn, New York.
DAVID MILLER -- David Kelley Miller, 61, died Tues., July 30, 2002, in a Florence hospital. Funeral services, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, were held Thurs., Aug. 1, 2002, in Kingstree Memorial Gardens. Mr. Miller was born in Kingstree, a son of the late Charles Edward Miller and Minnie Spivey Miller. He was a graduate of Kingstree High School and Clemson University, with a degree in agricultural engineering. He was a retired farmer. In 1986, he, and his brother, Jimmy, received the Farmer of the Year award in Williamsburg County. He had served on the Board of Directors and as secretary of the Tri-County Cotton Growers Asso-ciation and was involved in the development and success of Tri-County Cotton Gin. He was a member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church, a past president of the Kingstree Lions Club, the Kingstree Jaycees and the Kingstree Chamber of Commerce. An avid tennis player, he had coached the Williamsburg Academy Tennis team. Survivors are: his wife, Elizabeth (Bette) Hinson Miller; two daughters, Kelley M. Brinson of Pawleys Island; and Kent M. Burrows of Kingstree; and three brothers, Charles E. Miller, Jr., of Mt. Pleasant; Donald S. Miller of Homer, Alaska; and James S. Miller of Salters.
