Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com LAMAR JOHNSON -- Lamar Nathaniel Johnson, 78, died Sun., July 28, 2002, at his residence. Funeral services were held Wed., July 31, 2002, in the Kingstree United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Williamsburg Cemetery. Mr. Johnson was born in Kingstree, a son of Shelly Thelma McClary Johnson and John McKuren Johnson. He attended Williamsburg County Schools and was retired from the South Carolina Dept. of Transportation. Mr. Johnson was a member of Kingstree Masonic Lodge #46, a Shriner with Omar Temple, a member of the American Legion Post #8, and was a member of Kingstree United Methodist Church, where he held several offices over the years. He was currently serving as chairman of the Williamsburg Transportation Com-mittee. Survivors are: his wife, Elizabeth Duke Johnson of Kingstree; two daughters, Mrs. Debbie Hanniford of Florence; and Mrs. Tresa Dubuisson of Seattle, Washington; two brothers, Allen Johnson of Kingstree; and Randy Johnson of Myrtle Beach; and three sisters, Elizabeth Buddin of Cades; Sue Nell Hodges of Macon, Georgia; and Betty Lou Bolander of Auburndale, Florida.
EDGAR McCREA -- Funeral services for Edgar "Dick" McCrea, conducted by Brother Moses Wilson, were held Mon., Aug. 5, 2002, at Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. McCrea, 82, died July 31, 2002, in Williamsburg Regional Hospital. He was born Oct. 15, 1919, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Cicero McCrea and Mary Cunningham McCrea. He attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was employed as a construction laborer in the Swain Construction. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Hazel McCrea of the home; six sons, Edgar McCrea, Jr., of Kingstree; Earnest McCrea, Eddie McCrea, Thomas Lee McCrea, Norman McCrea and Sylvanus McCrea, all of Rochester, New York; five daughters, Celestine McCrea of Kingstree; Mrs. Elizabeth Parker, Mrs. Julia Lethbridge, Mrs. Barbara Lawson and Gwendolyn McCrea, all of Rochester, New York; one brother, Cicero McCrea of Kingstree; and two sisters, Mrs. Eloise McCrea Burrows and Mrs. Lottie Mae Moyd, both of Kingstree;
O'NEAL DURANT, SR. -- Funeral services for O'neal Durant, Sr., conducted by Bishop Kenneth Swaringer, were held Sun., Aug. 4, 2002, at Greater St. John Apostolic Church in Greeleyville. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Old Keels Cemetery. Mr. Durant, 55, died Aug. 1, 2002, at Tuomey Hospital in Sumter. He was born in Greeleyville, a son of Robert Durant and the late Mrs. Bell Robinson Durant. He was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County and was a member of Greater St. John Apostolic Church. He was em-ployed by the South Carolina Department of Transportation as a maintenance supervisor. Survivors, in addition to his father of Greeleyville, are: his wife, Mrs. Annie Janette Durant of the home; two sons, O'ıneal Durant, Jr., and Lionel Maurice Scott, both of Greeleyville; one daughter, Victoria Marie Scott of Greeleyville; two brothers, Alexander Durant of Lane; and Calvin Durant of Columbia; two sisters, Mrs. Sadie Dukes and Bobbie A. Durant, both of Greeleyville; and his mother-in-law, Pastor Victoria Washington.
CARLYLE COOKE -- Carlyle Cooke, 68, died Monday, June 17, 2002, in Kingstree. Funeral services were held Thurs., June 20, 2002, at the First Baptist Church of Lake View. Burial, directed by Cook Funeral Home, followed at Lake View Cemetery. Mr. Cooke was born in Dillon County, the son of the late Arthur and Eula Barfield Cooke. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lake View. He was a farmer and businessman, owner and operator of Kingstree Nursing Facility and owner of Cooke Associates of Lake View. Survivors are: his wife, Ann Moody Cooke of the home; one daughter, Barbara Ann Cooke Arnette of Lake View; two sons, Tony Ray Cooke and Richard Carlyle Cooke, both of Lake View; one sister, Virginia Cooke Hayes of Anderson; and one brother, Cecil Cooke of Holden Beach.
ARTHUR BYERS, SR. -- Master Sergeant Arthur Daniel Byers, Sr., United States Air Force (retired), husband of Anna Lou Heins Byers, died June 6, 2002. Funeral services were held Mon., June 10, 2002, at Peace Presbyterian Church in Goose Creek. Burial, directed by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Greenridge Road Chapel, followed at New Market Cemetery in Greeleyville. Mr. Byers was born May 28, 1930, in Naples, North Carolina, the son of the late Mont Bunyan and Mattie Moore Byers. He was retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard, Machine Shop 06 with 22 years of service. He was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers with a Honorary Lifetime Membership. He was a US Air Force veteran having served during the Vietnam War. Survivors, in addition to his wife of North Charleston, are: three sons, Arthur Daniel Byers, Jr., of Blythewood; John M. Byers of St. Maryıs, Georgia; and Peter J. Byers of Cottageville; two daughters, Susan B. OıLaughlin of Charleston; and Jane B. Snider of Goose Creek; and two sisters, Betty Broome of Pensacola, Florida; and Gladys Andrews of Fletcher, North Carolina.
SHARDAE FULTON -- Graveside services for Baby Shardae Aaliya Fulton were held Sat., June 22, 2002, at Goodwill Baptist Church Cemetery, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Baby Shardae died June 20, 2002, in Kingstree. She was born May 4, 2002, in Florence, a daughter of Keith Martin and Eboni Shardae Fulton. Survivors, in addition to her parents, both of Kingstree, are: grandparents, Barbara Fulton of Kingstree, Rodney Smith and Franklin Martin; and great-grandparents, Ezra Fulton, Vivian Fitzgerald of West Palm Beach, Florida and Joseph Martin of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
JIMMY ROBINSON -- Funeral services for Jimmy Robinson, conducted by the Rev. Jimmy Brockington, were held Mon., June 24, at St. John 4-B Baptist church in Greeleyville. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Big Spring Cemetery. Mr. Robinson, 47, died Wed., June 19, 2002, in Greeleyville. He was born in Greeleyville on Sept. 14, 1954, a son of Mrs. Leah Brunson Robinson and the late Pearl Robinson. He was educated in Williamsburg County Public School System. He was a member of St. John 4-B Baptist Church. Survivors, in addition to his mother of Greeleyville, are: five brothers, Pearl Robinson, Jr. and Kelly Robinson, both of Greeleyville; Lloyd Robinson and George Robinson, both of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and the Rev. Jackie Robinson of Troy, New York; and two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Keels of Greeleyville; and Mrs. Lizzie M. Moore of Kingstree.
JOE WOODS -- Funeral services for Joe Edward Woods, conducted by the Rev. James E. Scott, were held Tues., June 25, 2002, at Black River Baptist Church in Greeleyville. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Crossroads Cemetery. Mr. Woods, 48, died Wed., June 19, 2002, in Greeleyville. He was born Feb. 2, 1954, in Williamsburg County to the late James Lemiah Woods and Lue Jane McClary Woods. He received his formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County. He worked as a pipeline construction employee for several years. Survivors are: one son, Shawntell Woods of Georgia; one daughter, Sharoneka Monique McClary of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; five brothers, Willie James Woods of Hallendale, Florida; Lemiah Woods of Georgia; Leroy Woods and Freddie Woods, both of Wilmington, Delaware; and Harold Woods of Greeleyville; and one sister, Rose Ann Woods of Salters.
THERON COX -- Theron Clyde Cox, 90, died Sat., June 22, 2002, at McLeod Regional Hospital. Funeral services were held Mon., June 24, 2002, at Kingstree United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Bethesda United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mr. Cox was born March 12, 1912, in Cades, a son of the late Wabbleton Bradley Cox and Fannie Graham Cox. For many years, Mr. Cox was the owner and operator of Cox Refrigeration and Cox Laundromat, both of Kingstree. Prior to moving to Florence in 2001, Mr. Cox was an active member of Kingstree United Methodist Church and the Kingstree Men's Prayer Breakfast, as well as a former member of the Gideons. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Ora Lee Tanner Cox of Florence; three sons, Timothy C. Cox of Florence; R. Dale Cox, recently of Hillsville, Virginia, now of Florence; and Bryan L. Cox of Murrells Inlet; and one sister, Mrs. V. Maurita Hughes of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
MARY GRUBBS -- Mary Lucille White Grubbs, 88, died Tues., July 2, 2002, at the Columbus County Hospital in Whiteville, North Carolina. Funeral services were held Fri., July 5, 2002, at Kingstree First Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Kingstree Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Grubbs was born Aug. 10, 1913, in Camden, a daughter of the late Asbury Britton White and Amanda Peebles White. She attended the public schools of Lee County and was a honor graduate of Columbia College. She taught in the public schools of Barnwell and Williamsburg Counties for 31 years. In addition, she taught Sunday school for 62 years, mostly at the First Baptist Church in Kingstree and was a member of Mary Grubbs Circle. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, John R. Grubbs, Sr. Survivors are: one son, John R. Grubbs, Jr., of Mt. Pleasant; one daughter, Mary Gayle G. Stoll of Whiteville, North Carolina; and three sisters, Mrs. Julia Paciulan of Sumter; Mrs. Margaret Joyner of Florence; and Mrs. Alma Moore of Dalzell.
