Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com HENRY WILLIAMSON -- Henry Caulder Williamson, 68, died Fri., Aug. 16, 2002, in a Charleston hospital. Funeral services were held Sun., Aug. 18, 2002, at Kingstree First Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Williamson Cemetery. Mr. Williamson was born July 14, 1934, a son of the late Hoyt Stephen Williamson and Bertie Caulder Williamson. He attended Kingstree High School and the University of Georgia. He was a retired farmer, having worked with Kingstree Production Credit and was the co-owner of Tri-County Tractor Co., in Kingstree. He served in France and England during the Korean War and was a retired Master Sergeant in the Air Force reserves. He was a past commander of American Legion Post 8 and past Commander of the V.F.W. He retired from the Board of Directors of Williamsburg Academy after serving 15 years as treasurer. He was also a former scoutmaster and former director of Williamsburg First National Bank. He was a member of Kingstree First Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon, former Sunday School secretary and had served on various committees. Survivors are: his wife, Doris McClary Williamson; three sons, Louis Henry (Hank) Williamson of Salters; Dickey Brown Williamson and Walter James Williamson both of Kingstree; and four brothers, N. Aubrey Williamson, Alva S. Williamson and Joe Williamson, all of Kingstree; and Roland C. Williamson of Atlanta, Georgia. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church or to Williamson Cemetery.
DORIS STAGGS -- Mrs. Doris Virginia Carroll Staggs, 89, widow of Charles Roy Staggs, died Sat., Aug. 17, 2002, in a Florence nursing home. Funeral services were held Sun., Aug. 18, 2002, at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Williamsburg Cemetery. Mrs. Staggs was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, a daughter of the late Jacob Benjamin and Maude Whitehurst Carroll. She attended Hendersonville, North Carolina schools and was employed for 30 years at Radio Station WDKD in Kingstree. Mrs. Staggs was a member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, where she served on the Binder staff. She also served as a hospital volunteer for 11 years and a member of the Golden Years Club. Survivors are: two daughters, Carroll S. Hammet of Kingstree; and Lorraine S. Gordon of Ft. Mill; one son, Charles Roy Staggs, Jr., of Sumter; ten grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
CHARLESE FULTON -- Funeral services for Mrs. Charlese J. McClary Fulton, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Lee Bines, were held Tues., Aug. 20, 2002, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Greenlawn Cemetery. Mrs. Fulton, 81, died Fri., Aug. 16, 2002, at Kingstree Nursing Facility in Kingstree. She was born in Orangeburg on Oct. 14, 1920, to the late Alice Boderick Haynes and Baker Andrew Haynes. She was married to the late Roland McClary and later married the late Joe Doward Fulton. She attended the public schools of Orangeburg County and graduated from high school in 1935. She was a graduate of Allen University in Columbia and also attended South Carolina State University in Orangeburg. She taught French in the public schools of Sumter County and Williamsburg County. Mrs. Fulton was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, where she was a former member of the United Methodist Women, the church choir, the Administrative Board, and the Day Care Board. She was a former chairperson of The Pastor Parish Relations Committee, former Chairperson of the Council on Ministries, former church financial secretary and former Sunday School teacher. She was also a former secretary of Williamsburg County Democratic Party, former Williamsburg County Executive Committee Chairperson for Kingstree Precinct No. 2 and past President of Williamsburg County Precinct No. 2. She was a staunch supporter and member of the NAACP and the former Williamsburg County Voters' League. Survivors are: one step daughter, Mrs. Christine Anderson of Los Angeles, California; two nieces, Mary Alice Smith of Charlotte, North Carolina; Mrs. Louise Johnson of Jersey City, New Jersey; two special nieces who cared for her, Mrs. Slyvia Ivey of New Zion; and Mrs. Edith Bell McCullough of Kingstree; and one nephew, Thornton Baker Haynes of Charlotte, North Carolina.
OSCAR GREGG -- Funeral services for Oscar Courtrilious "Sparky" Gregg, conducted by Bishop Kenneth J. Swaringer, were held Tues., Dec. 17, 2002, at Greater Gethsamane Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, Inc., of Florence. Burial, directed by Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Greater Gethsamane Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ Church Cemetery. Mr. Gregg, 49, died Fri., Dec. 13, 2002, at his residence in Scranton. He served in the United State Marines. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Boisy S. Gregg of Florence; three sons, Oscar C. Gregg, III, of Florence; Shauwn Smalls and Korei Bull, both of Darlington; four daughters, Oona C. Gregg of McBee, South Carolina; SPC Tracie G. Burgess of Ft. Bragg, North Carolina; Faith Nicole Gregg of Scranton; Tonya Williams of Florence; one brother, Edwin Gregg of Baltimore, Maryland; companion, Shelia Fleming of Scranton; and nine grandchildren.
WILBUR PHILLIPS, JR. -- Wilbur C. Phillips, Jr., 73, died Dec. 11, 2002, at his home in Hobe Sound, Florida. Mr. Phillips graduated from Palm Beach High School, class of '49 and served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of VFW Post #10132 and the John Birch Society. Burial was directed by Northwood Funeral Home. Survivors are: his wife, Charmeyne M. Phillips; two sons, Tod and Grady; two sisters, Doris P. Cline and Nancy J. Hendricks; and five grandchildren. Friends are asked to consider memorials to Hospice of Martin and St. Lucie, Inc., PO Box 1168, Stuart, Florida 34995-1168, in Mr. Phillips' memory.
CHARLIE FEAGIN -- Charlie Demsey Feagin, 53, died Wed., Dec. 18, 2002, in a Florence hospital. Graveside funeral services, with full military honors, were held Sat., Dec. 21, 2002, in the Lake City Memorial Park, directed by Brockington Funeral Home. Mr. Feagin was born in Williamsburg County, a son of Juanita Smith Feagin and the late Leo Feagin. He was a graduate of Hebron High School and an Army veteran of the Vietnam war. Survivors, in addition to his mother of Cades, are: one son, Uriah Thompson of Johnsonville; one sister, Marie "Cookie" Herndon of Summerville; and four brothers, Raydell Feagin of Lake City; Garry Feagin of Scranton; Wade Feagin of Cades; and Barney Feagin of Kingstree.
ALICE MORRIS -- Mrs. Alice Ann Rodgers Morris, 63, wife of Chesley H. Morris, died Wed., Dec. 18, 2002, in a Florence hospital. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Mrs. Morris was born in Dillon County, a daughter of the late Gonzalee and Edna Laura Snipes Rodgers. She was a homemaker and former member of Lynches River Free Will Baptist Church. Survivors are: her husband, Chesley H. Morris of Lake View; three daughters, Kathy Rodgers of Kingstree; Sandra Kennedy of Scranton and Debbie K. Mims of Olanta; one son, Clifton LeRoy Kennedy, Jr., of Scranton; one sister, Mildred Wilder of Charleston; two brothers, Dock T. Rodgers of Raleigh, North Carolina; and Alton "Don" Rodgers of Fairfield, California; and three grandchildren.
MATTIE PARROTT -- Mattie Timmons Vause Parrott, 96, widow of Marvin J. Parrott, died Tues., Aug. 27, 2002, at a Kingstree nursing home. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Ed Ouimette, were held Thurs., Aug. 29, 2002, at Union Presbyterian Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Lawrence Cemetery in Effingham. Mrs. Parrott was born in Florence County, a daughter of the late Isaac N. Timmons and Anna Belle Fulmore Timmons. She was a member of Union Presbyterian Church in Salters. She was first married to the late Richard James Vause, Sr. Survivors are: one son, Richard J. (Jimmy) Vause of Salters; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
IDA ERVIN -- Funeral services for Mrs. Ida Wheeler Ervin, conducted by the Rev. Patrick Staggers, were held Fri., Aug. 30, 2002, at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in Andrews. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at the churchyard cemetery. Mrs. Ervin, 84, died Sun., Aug. 25, 2002, at her residence. She was born Dec. 31, 1917, in Gable, a daughter of the late Perry and Carrie Wilson Wheeler. She received her formal education and graduated from the public schools of Clarendon County. She was a member of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church where she served on the usher board. As a member of Ester Chapter No. 289, Order of the Eastern Star, she dutifully served as Past Worthy Matron, Worthy Matron and secretary. Her active involvement in the community included assisting with the voter's registration, working as a poll worker for the Bloomingvale Precinct and operating the Children's Summer Lunch Program. She was also a member of the NAACP. She was married to the late Robert D. Ervin. Survivors are: two daughters, Mrs. Shirley E. Singletary of Baltimore, Maryland; and Mrs. Mary Ervin White of the home; two sons, Benjamin F. Ervin, Sr. of Farmville, Virginia; and John A. Ervin of Andrews; one brother, Joe Wheeler of Gable; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
EDNA MOORMANN -- Edna Sharpe Moormann, 90, died Thursday, August 29, 2002, at her residence. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Thom C. Jones and the Rev. L. Ray Anderson, Jr., were held Saturday, August 31, 2002, at Jerusalem United Methodist Church in Elloree. Burial, directed by Dukes-Harley Funeral Home, followed at Jerusalem United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Moormann was born in Brook Port, Illinois, a daughter of the late Sheridan Sharpe and Alice Sharpe. Mrs. Moormann was a retired co-owner and operator of Warsaw Manufacturing Company of Kingstree and Johnsonville. She and her husband worked in manufacturing in Charleston, Georgetown, Greenville and Kingstree. She was a member of the Eastern Star and a member of Jerusalem United Methodist Church. Mrs. Moormann was the widow of William John 'Bill' Moormann. Survivors are: one son, Howard Moormann of Aiken; one daughter, Mrs. Sue Jones of West Columbia; one sister, Regina Finch of Iuka, Mississippi; four grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Jerusalem United Methodist Church, PO Box 681, Elloree, SC 29047.
