TAMIKA BURGESS -- Funeral services for Tamika Shanelle Burgess, conducted by the Rev. Elder B. Holmes, were held Sat., Oct. 5, 2002, at Kingstree Junior High School in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Gordon Cemetery. Miss Burgess, 14, died Sun., Sept. 29, 2002. She was born in Kingstree, a daughter of Mrs. Verlie White and Dannie Lee Burgess. Tamika was a ninth grade student at Kingstree Senior High School, where she played on the volleyball team. She was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the young adult/junior choir. She also sang with Mt. Zion Baptist Junior Choir. Survivors, in addition to her parents, are: three brothers, Shedrick Maurice White of Columbia; Dannie Darrell Burgess and Dennis Lee Burgess, both of Kingstree; and her grandparents, Mrs. Annie Ceal Burgess of Kingstree; and Mrs. Daisy Wilson Brown of Salters.

JAMES CANTEY -- Funeral services for James Cantey, Sr., conducted by the Rev. Edward McLeod, were held Sat., Oct. 5, 2002, at Long Branch United Methodist Church in Greeleyville. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Big Spring Cemetery in Greeleyville. Mr. Cantey, 73, died Tues., Oct. 1, 2002, at Clarendon County Memorial Hospital in Manning. He was born in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Gus Cantey and Lena Hilton Cantey. He was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was a member of Long Branch United Methodist church in Greeleyville. He was a member of Masonic Lodge. Survivors are: ten sons, James Cantey, Jr., of Charleston; Leroy Cantey of Marietta, Georgia; Alfred Cantey and Terrance Cantey, both of Indiana; John Earl Cantey of Florida; Gus Cantey of Woodbridge, Virginia; Ricky Guest and Steve Guest, both of Greeleyville; Matthew Guest of Kingstree; and Christopher Guest of Marietta, Georgia; and two daughters, Mrs. Donna Marie Sabb of Manhattan, New York; and Mrs. Lorraine Robinson of Manning.

ELOUISE ROGERS -- Funeral services for Mrs. Elouise Manigault Rogers, conducted by the Rev. Bonus Miller, were held Mon., Oct. 7, 2002, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Greeleyville. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at the churchyard cemetery. Mrs. Rogers, 102, died Tues., Oct. 1, 2002, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Sarah Bennett Manigault and Abram Manigault. She attended the public schools of Charleston County and studied music (piano). She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she served as bible study teacher, Sunday School teacher, Sunday School treasurer, musician, senior choir member, Deaconess, Pastors Widows Wives, Baptist Missionary and church mother. She also was a member of the YMCA and YWCA, Liberty Works Chapter #171 of the Eastern Star, Farmers Aid, Joint Stock and Missionary and secretary for the Williamsburg Baptist Association. Survivors are: a granddaughter she reared as her own, Joyce Deloris Rogers of the home; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

RUTH BYRDIC -- Ruth Gettys Byrdic, widow of Hubert P. Byrdic, died Oct. 4, 2002, at The Presbyterian Home of South Carolina in Florence. Funeral services were held Sun., Oct. 13, 2002, at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Kingstree Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Byrdic was born on March 18, 1904, in York County, a daughter of William E. Gettys and Alice Rosina Hogue Gettys. She was a graduate of York County High School and Erskine College with a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education. Mrs. Byrdic was a retired school teacher having taught 39 years in York, Sumter and Williamsburg Counties. She served as principal of Williams-burg Elementary School for the last 15 years of her teaching career. She was a member of Lane Presbyterian Church and Williams-burg Presbyterian Church. Survivors are: one daughter, Anne Byrdic Caison of Kingstree; two sisters, Elizabeth Parsons of Rock Hill; and Lee Hope of Matthews, North Carolina; three brothers, William M. Gettys and Dr. Joseph M. Gettys of Clinton; and David Gettys of Matthews, North Carolina; two granddaughters; and four great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Presbyterian Home of South Carolina (Florence), 2350 W. Lucas St., Florence, South Carolina 29501 or to Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, 411 N. Academy St., Kingstree, South Carolina 29556.

JACQUELINE McKENZIE -- Mrs. Jacqueline Moore Mc-Kenzie, 78, died Sun., Oct. 6, 2002, at Providence Hospital. Graveside funeral services, directed by Brockington Funeral Home, were held Tues., Oct. 8, 2002, at Moore Cemetery. Mrs. McKenzie was born in Georgetown on Dec. 25, 1923, a daughter of the late Clarence Vernon and Ollie Nettles Moore. After attending Lake City High School, she graduated from Anderson College and was employed for over 20 years at the University of South Carolina. She was a life-long member of Pergamos United Methodist Church in Lake City. She was the wife of the late A. B. McKenzie of Kingstree. Survivors are: two daughters, Diana M. Dickson of Columbia; and Amanda M. Griffin of Beaufort; two sons, A. B. McKenzie, Jr., of Johnson City, Tennessee; and Stephen M. McKenzie of Batesburg; one sister, Thelma Moore Wilson of Cades; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Pergamos United Methodist Church, 3045 Green Road, Cades, SC 29518.

EMMA SINGLETARY -- Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Jane Singletary, conducted by the Rev. Virgil Hammett, were held Sat., Sept. 29, 2002 at St. Phillip A.M.E. Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Smith-Cooper Cemetery in Salters. Mrs. Singletary was born Nov. 8, 1919, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Dave and Emma Swinton. She was first married to the late Ransome Harrison, Sr. and she was also married to the late Raleigh Singletary. She was a member of Southern Rock Baptist Church. Survivors are: one daughter, Pearline Harrison of Oxon Hill, Maryland; four sisters, Jannie Bradley, Katie McCrea and Lucille Fluitt of Salters; and Matilda Lewis of Kingstree; two brothers, David Swinton of Alsion, Michigan; and Joe McClary of Florida; five step-daughters, Amy Williams of Lane; Mary Lee McQueen of Washington, DC; Maebell Tisdale of St. Petersburg, Florida; Judith and Louvenia Harrison of Salters; four step-sons, Ransome Harrison, Jr. of Washington, DC; Lester and Theodore Harrison of Salters; and Isaac Harrison of Myrtle Beach; two grandsons; and nine great-grandchildren.

MINNIE McFADDEN -- Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie June McFadden, conducted by the Rev. Talbert Dickson, were held October 2002, at Antioch Baptist Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at the churchyard cemetery. Mrs. McFadden, 88, died Tues., Oct. 8, 2002, at her residence in Nesmith. She was born Oct. 11, 1913, in Williamsburg County, a daughter, of the late Rev. Mingo and Bessie Burrows June. She was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was a lifelong member of Antioch Baptist Church where she served as a member of the senior choir. She worked for many years at Highland Hospital in Rochester, New York. She was married to the late Mackey ³Bootnie² McFadden. Survivors are: one daughter, Mrs. Bessie Lee Chandler of the home; one brother, Ed June of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

GERALD McELVOGUE -- Gerald Lee McElvogue, 71, husband of Frankie Hughes McElvogue, died Wed., Oct. 9, 2002, at Carolinas Hospital in Florence. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Esta G. Gilley, were held Thurs., Oct. 10, 2002, at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning. Burial, directed by Stephens Funeral Home, followed at Kingstree Memorial Gardens. Born April 24, 1931, he was a son of the late Luther and Eva McElvouge. He was retired from the United States Navy, a veteran of the Vietnam War and was a retired postal worker. Mr. McElvogue was a member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church and was a Mason and Shriner. Survivors, in addition to his wife of Summerton, are: one son, Cliff McElvogue of Goose Creek; one step-son, Mack Brown of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; one step-daughter, Sandra Gibbons of Kingstree; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

JONATHAN MURPHY -- Funeral services for Jonathan Murphy, conducted by the Rev. Jonathan Brown, were held Mon., Sept. 30, 2002, at Elijah United Methodist Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, at the churchyard cemetery. Mr. Murphy, 73, died Thurs., Sept. 26, 2002, at Kingstree Nursing Facility in Kingstree. He was born in Kingstree, a son of Mrs. Annie Cooper Murphy and the late Warren Murphy. He was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was a former employee of Baxter Travenol Industries for 23 years and he also was employed by Rogers Country Store. He was member of Elijah United Methodist Church in Kingstree. He was a member of the United Methodist Men and a former member of the Usher Board. He also was a member of 261 Hunting Club. Survivors, in addition to his mother of Kingstree, are: one son, James Murphy of Conway; two daughters, Joyce Cooper and Deloris Murphy, both of Kingstree; one brother, Thomas Murphy of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Pendergrass and Mrs. Janie Mae Wilson of Miami, Florida; ten grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

LUCILLE FLUITT -- Funeral services for Mrs. Lucille S. Fluitt, conducted by the Rev. Samuel B. Cooper, were held Sat., Oct. 12, 2002, at Jerusalem United Methodist Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at the churchyard cemetery. Mrs. Fluitt died Oct. 7, 2002, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. She was born Nov. 13, 1929, in Salters, a daughter of the late Dave and Alice McCray Swinton. She was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was a member of Jerusalem United Methodist Church, the Lily White Chapter #349, Order of the Eastern Star and the Blakely FCL Club. She was married to Paden Fluitt. Survivors are: three daughters, Leslie F. Britt, Denise Epps and Valerie Fulton, all of Salters; four sons, Heyward Fluitt of Indianapolis, Indiana; Dave Fluitt of Savannah, Georgia; Vincent Fluitt of Salters; and Clayton Fluitt of Kingstree; three sisters, Katie McCray and Janie Bradley, both of Salters; and Matida Lewis of Kingstree; four brothers, David Swinton of Albion, Michigan; Thomas McCray of Salters; David McCray of Rochester, New York; Joe McClary of Florida; one adopted brother and sister, Hessie Cruiz and Sanders McCray of Miami, Florida; 20 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
