Levern Witherspoon, were held Sun., Oct. 13, 2002, at Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. McClary 88, died Thurs., Oct. 10, 2002, at McLeod Regional in Florence. She was a daughter of the late James Witherspoon and Rachel Cooper Witherspoon. She was education in the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was a member of Union Baptist Church, where she was a church missionary and sang on the senior choir. Survivors are: one sister, Mrs. Ruby Witherspoon Tisdale of Kingstree; one step-daughter, Mrs. Geraldine Nelson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; a niece who cared for her, Mrs. Racheal Ashley of Florence and one grandson of Salters.
HARRIS BROWN -- Harris F. Brown, 72, died Wed., Oct. 9, 2002, in a Florence hospital. Funeral services were held Fri., Oct. 11, 2002, at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at McClary Cemetery. Mr. Brown was born in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Charles Leroy Brown and Dora McGee Brown. He was a graduate of Kingstree schools and was retired from the US Air Forces as a Tech Sergeant. He was a designer and builder of boats and knives and a gunsmith. He was a member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Idella (Ikey) Hanna Brown of Kingstree; three sons, Harris F. Brown, Jr. of Martinsburg, West Virginia; Jefferey Brown of Groveland, Florida; and Russell Brown of Howey In The Hills, Florida; two daughters, Melissa McFaddin of Madison, Alabama; and Stephanie Evans of Kingstree; and six grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Williamsburg Presbyterian Church.
EVA MITCHELL -- Eva Bell Mitchell, 75, died Tues., Oct. 8, 2002, at the Asbury Care Center. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. J. Grady Faulk, were held Fri., Oct. 11, 2002, at Dilworth Chapel of Hankins and Whittington Funeral Home. Burial, directed by Hankins and Whit-tington Dilworth Chapel, followed at Sharon Memorial Park. Born Sept. 27, 1927, in Kingstree, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Louise McGill Bell. After graduating from Winthrop college in Rock Hill, South Carolina. She was an educator for over 40 years teaching at Park Road Elementary and Charlotte Latin and also Rock Hill, South Carolina. She was married to the late J. B. Mitchell, Jr. Survivors are: two sisters, Mary Bell McFadden of Kingstree; and Ann B. Smiley of Lake City; one brother, Robert E. Bell of Kingstree; two step-sons, J. B. Mitchelle of Greensboro; and Doug Mitchell of Charlotte. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer¹s Association, Southern Piedmont Chapter, 3420 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, North Carolina 28215.
HENRY WILSON -- Funeral services for Henry Wilson, conducted by the Rev. Clifford Levine, were held Tues., October 22, 2002, at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Lane. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Cowhead Cemetery. Mr. Wilson, 84, died Tues., Oct. 15, 2002, at his residence in Salters, a son of the late Alex Wilson and Lillian Miller Wilson. He was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was a life long farmer and was also employed with Brason Railroad Construction. He was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, where he served as a church trustee and was also a member of the Sons and Daughters of Job and the Y.M.C.A. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Ola Bright Wilson; three sons, Caroline Wilson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; James Wilson of Greensboro, North Carolina; and Glenn Parker of Lane; three daughters, Helen Thompson of Lane; Linda Wilson of Fayetteville, North Carolina; and Emma Lee Parker of Wilmington, North Carolina; two step-children, Jerry Bright and Mrs. Shirley Thompson, both of Lane; and one brother, Frank Wilson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
JOSEPH BRUNSON -- Funeral services for Joseph "Joe" Brunson, conducted by the Rev. Clifford Levine, were held Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Lane. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at McKnight Cemetery. Mr. Brunson, 57, died Tues., Oct. 15, 2002, at McLeod Regional in Florence. A son of the late James Brunson and Anna Dukes, he was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was employed by the Steel Manufactory as a machine operator. He worked for Georgia Pacific for 22 years and for Coral Reef. He was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church where he served on the Usher Board. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Florine Gamble Brunson of Lane; four sons, Joseph Brunson, Jr., Anthony Brunson and Darcell Brunson, all of Lane; and Andrew Brunson of Phoenix, Arizona; one daughter, Lisa Ceesay of Lane; his step-mother, Mrs. Irene Brunson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; two brothers, James Brunson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Jerry Brunson of Jersey City, New Jersey; one sister, Fannie Mae Brunson of Lane; his father-in-law, George Montgomery; and 11 grandchildren.
SADIE MAJOR -- Funeral services for Sadie Rebecca Major, conducted by the Rev. Jack Davis, were held Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at St. James A.M.E. Church in Lane. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at the churchyard cemetery. Mrs. Major, 92, died Sun., Oct. 13, 2002, at Lake Moultrie Nursing Facility in St. Stephen. A daughter of Mrs. Lou Ella Davis Fraiser Morant and Mose Frasier, she was educated in the public schools of Charleston and earned a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Allen University in Columbia. She was employed as a teacher for 38 years, and taught at St. James Elementary in Gourdine and Lane Consolidated Elementary in Lane. She was a member of St. James A.M.E. Church, where she was a member of the Women¹s Missionary Society and the Steward Board. She was director of the church Christian Education, teacher of the intermediate class and the church secretary for more than 40 years. She was a former member of the senior choir. Also, she was the circuit secretary of the former Gourdine Circuit for more than 15 years. She attended the Santee Senior Services Site at Greeleyville. Survivors are: two sisters, Mrs. Hattie P. Davis of Lane; and Mrs. Ernestine Wright of Florence.
ELIZABETH MILLER -- Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Miller, conducted by the Rev. Elder B. Holmes, were held Sat., Oct. 19, 2002, at Antioch Baptist Church in Lane. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at McKnight Cemetery. Mrs. Miller died Sun., Oct. 13, 2002. She was born May 18, 1915, in Lane, a daughter of the late Richard and Octavia Davis. She received her education in the public school system of Lane. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. She was married to the late James Hardy Miller. Survivors are: one son, Washington Miller of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; six step-children, Jerome Miller, Arthur Lee, Margaret Jones, Timothy Miller, Loretta Miller and Lorraine Miller Prioleau; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
RUTHERDEL MOSES -- Funeral services for Mrs. Rutherdel June Kinder Moses, conducted by Brother Toney Baxley, were held Sat., Oct. 19, 2002, at Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Salters Cemetery. Mrs. Moses, 84, died Mon., Oct. 14, 2002, at Ron McNair Nursing Facility in Lake City, a daughter of the late Julius June and Rachel June. She was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was employed as a former domestic worker. She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Florence. Survivors are: one son, Douglas Kinder of Jacksonville, Florida; one sister, Mrs. Julia Betts of Boston, Massachusetts; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two step-grandchildren.
WILKEN BRADLEY -- Funeral services for Wilken Bradley, conducted by the Rev. Sam Cooper, were held Friday, October 25, 2002, at Jerusalem Methodist Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed in the church yard cemetery. Mr. Bradley, 68, died Friday, October 18, 2002, at the Veteran's Hospital in Charleston. A son of the late Trim Bradley and Margaret Fulmore Bradley, he was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was employed at C. E. Murray High School for many years. He was a member of Jerusalem United Methodist Church where he served as chairman of Stewardship, chairman of the Administration Council, and was past president of the Senior Choir. He was a member of the Finance Committee, the United Methodist Men, the Male Chorus, and also served on the Trustee Board. Survivors are: his wife, Ruther Lee Benbow Bradley of the home; four sons, Stanley Bradley of Myrtle Beach; Wilken Bradley, Jr., of Summerville; Carnel Bradley of Accokeek, Maryland; and Angleo Bradley of Charlotte, North Carolina; two daughters, Mrs. Brenda Rush of St. Petersburg, Florida; and Mrs. Alfrida Gadsden of North Charleston; his stepmother, Mrs. Grace Bradley of Salters; eight brothers, Nathaniel Bradley and Billy Bradley, both of Salters; Richard Bradley of Baltimore, Maryland; Trim Bradley, Jr., and Sanders McCrea, both of St. Petersburg, Florida; Felder Bradley of Rochester, New York; Gardner Bradley of Washington, DC; and Charlie Bradley of Columbia; six sisters, Mrs. Thelma Miller, Mrs. Shirley Bradley and Josephine Moss, all of Buffalo, New York; Mrs. Annie Singletary of Salters; Mrs. Mary Lee Reid of St. Stephen; and Mrs. Evelyn McGee of Springfield, Ohio; twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
KATHRYN BROWN -- Kathryn Horton Brown, 59, died Oct. 24, 2002. Memorial services were held Sat., Oct. 26, 2002, at All Saints Episcopal Church on Tybee Island. Mrs. Brown was born in Anderson, South Carolina, a daughter of John and Helen Horton, and grew up in Kingstree. She graduated from Kingstree High School and Winthrop College. She taught high school English in North Carolina and at Hancock Day School in Savannah. She was a founder of the newspaper ³This Week at the Landings.² Survivors are: her husband, Terrence C. Brown; two daughters, Ashley and Caroline Brown; two sisters, Helen Stonestreet of Lake Norman, North Carolina; and Della Jo Williams of Seneca; and one brother, Josh Horton of Georgetown; and one granddaughter.
