Dr. Hermon Gibson, Jr., were held Fri., Nov. 29, 2002, at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Greeleyville. Burial, directed by Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home, followed at New McFadden Cemetery. Pastor Dickson, 61, died Sun., Nov. 24, 2002, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. He was born Dec. 2, 1940, in Florence County, a son of Melvin Dickson and the late Agnes Nero Dickson. He received his formal education in the public schools of Florence County. He was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church. He was the pastor of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Greeleyville and Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Kingstree. He worked for a number of years at the Magnolia Mall in Florence. Survivors, in addition to his father, are: his wife, Mrs. Loretta Williams Dickson of the home; four children, Albert Dickson of Cincinnati, Ohio; Larry Dickson of the home; Elaine Dickson and Melissa Fulmore, both of Olanta; seven brothers, Devant Dickson of Olanta; J. D. Dickson, Johnny Dickson, Willie Dickson, Donald Dickson and Nathaniel Dickson, all of Paterson, New Jersey; and Rooky Dickson of Florence; five sisters, Eddie Mae Williams of Lake City; Reedy Francis of Paterson, New Jersey; Beulah felder of Passaic, New Jersey; Geneva Williams of Olanta and Linda Edwards of Atalnta, Georgia; and four grandchildren.
GEFIE McELVEEN, JR. -- Funeral services for Gefie McElveen, Jr., were held Sat., Nov. 30, 2002, at Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home Chapel in Lake City. Burial, directed by Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery in Lynchburg. Mr. McElveen, 75, died Fri., Nov. 22, 2002, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning. He was born April 25, 1927, in Lynchburg, a son of the late Gefie McElveen, Sr., and Doshia Hawkins McElveen. He was a cement finisher for most of his life. Survivors are: one daughter, Chicquita Jackson Hawkins; and one brother, Nathan McElveen of Lynchburg.
DOT COLLINS -- Dorothea Nancy Meares Collins, 90, wife of the late Ramond Henry (Red) Collins of Walhalla, South Carolina, died Thurs., Nov. 28, 2002, at Oconee Memorial Hospital. Graveside services were held Sat., Nov. 30, 2002, at St. Johnıs Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery. A native of Oconee County, Mrs. Collins was the daughter of the late Terry Mabry and Bertha Moore Meares. She was a graduate of the Greenwood Business College and a retired secretary with the Voters Registration and Election Commission. Mrs. Collins was a member of St. Johnıs Evangelical Lutheran Church. Survivors are: one daughter, Suzanne Collins Fuller of Kingstree; one sister, Martha Meares Hahn of Greenwood; three grandchildren; and one great grandchild. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Johnıs Evangelical Lutheran Church, 301 West Main Street, Walhalla, South Carolina 29691.
SPENCER MACK -- Funeral services for Master Spencer Kwamaine Mack, conducted by the Rev. Carl Shaw, were held Tues., Nov. 26, 2002, at Bibleway Church in Lane. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Charity Cemetery in Lane. Master Mack, 22 months, died Tues., Nov. 21, 2002, at his resident in Lane. He was born Jan. 19, 2001, a son of Tynisha Mack of Lane and Ashley Pressley of Columbia. Survivors, in addition to his parents, are: his grandparents, Mrs. Sarah Bradshaw and the Rev. Dudley Bradshaw of Greeleyville; Mrs. Beulah Dukes of Lane; and Johnnie Pressley, Jr. of Virginia; his great-grandparents, Mrs. Clara Palmer of Andrews; Mrs. Wilhemenia Joyner of Fort Jackson, Columbia; Johnnie Pressley, Sr. of Kingstree; his great-great-grandparents, Mrs. Mary Dukes of Lane; Mrs. Corine Pressley of Kingstree; and Samuel Dukes of Greeleyville.
ERNEST BUCKLES, JR. -- Ernest Edward Buckles, Jr., 77, died Tues., Nov. 26, 2002, in a Florence hospital. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Rodney Foster and the Rev. L. J. Shuman, were held Fri., Nov. 29, 2002, at Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Midway Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Mr. Buckles was born in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Ozellia Baylor Buckles and Ernest E. Buckles, Sr. He was a graduate of Williamsburg County schools and served in the US Navy during World War II. Mr. Buckles retired as line crew foreman for Santee Electric Co-op and was a member and former Deacon of Midway Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Kingstree Masonic Lodge #46, A.F.M., the American Legion and the V.F.W. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Lena Mae Duke Buckles of Kingstree; two sons, Michael Edward Buckles of Surfside Beach; and Duke LaFattee Buckles of Kingstree; one daughter, Rita B. McCracken of Florence; three brothers, Pete Buckles and Jack Buckles, both of Columbia; and Carlton Buckles of Hartsville; two sisters, Louise B. Huffstetler of Gaffney; and Joyce B. McLaughlin of Charleston; and two grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Midway Church.
NAOMI DARBY -- Funeral services for Mrs. Naomi Darby, conducted by the Rev. Jimmy Brockington, were held Tues., Dec. 3, 2002, at Marion Baptist Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Salters Ceme-tery. Mrs. Darby, daughter of the late Harris McCrea and Martha Smith McCrea, died Fri., Nov. 29, 2002, at Williamsburg Regional Hospital. She attended the public schools of Williamsburg County and later graduated from Blakely High School Adult Program. She was employed by and retired from Williamsburg County School District in 1982. She was a member of Marion Baptist Church, where she was senior choir president for many years and enjoyed singing. She was known as the church taxi. She personally transported senior citizens of the church on Sundays for many years. She was a member of the Lillie White Chapter #349 Order of the Eastern Star. She was married to Camp "Sonny" Darby. Survivors are: one daughter, Martha Scott of Kingstree; four sons, Willie Darby of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Robert A. Darby and Levern Darby, both of Salters; Dr. Clarence Steward Clinton Darby of Columbia; two step-daughters, Ojetta Dantzler and Geraldine Young; two sisters, Geneva Rose of Charleston; and Betty Gunder of Bronx, New York; one step-sister, Sarah Barr of Salters; a grandson, Michael Green of Maryland, whom she reared as her own; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
REV. SIMON JAMES -- Funeral services for the Rev. Simon Laurie James, conducted by the Rev. Nathaniel Evans and Elder Henry James, were held Sat., Dec. 7, 2002, at Faith United Methodist Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at the church yard cemetery. Mr. James, 86, died Wed., Dec. 4, 2002, at his residence in Kingstree. He was born July 26, 1916, a son of the late Mack James and Elease Brockington James. He was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. He also studied at Morris College School of Religion. He was formerly employed as a licensed barber for many years, he also worked at Drexel Furniture for over 25 years, Georgia Pacific for 10 years and was a longtime farmer. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Kingstree, he pastored at Glen Chapel United Methodist Church in Sellers, South Carolina and St. Paul United Methodist Church in Morrisville for many years. He also retired from United Methodist Ministry. He was also a member of the Joint Stock Lodge, Isrealite Lodge and King David Lodge. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Rochelle James of the home; five sons, Elder Henry Roosevelt James of New Haven, Connecticut; the Rev. William Simon James and the Rev. Frank Vertrell James, both of Kingstree; Bernell Edward James of Miami, Florida; and Primas Timothy James of Riverdale, Georgia; two daughters, the Rev. Mary Ann Snowden of Kingstree; and Mrs. Wendell A. Guy of Richardson, Texas; one brother, Willie D. James of Atlanta, Georgia; 25 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
JESSIE WILSON -- Funeral services for Jessie James Wilson were held Sat., Dec. 7, 2002, at Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home Chapel in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at St. Mary A.M.E. Cemetery. Mr. Wilson, companion of 33 years to Miss Veronica Angela McClary, was born Oct. 22, 1939, in Salters. He was the son of the late Joseph and Margaret Wilson. He died Tues., Dec. 3, 2002, at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He received his education in Salters. He was employed with the local union 912 of Baltimore. Survivors are: his companion, Veronica McClary; one son, Jesse Corey Wilson; step-children, Antoinette, Sharon and Ronald McClary; and his sisters and brothers, Louis Wilson of Greensboro, North Carolina; Blondie Gloria Deberry and Shirley Coats of Salters; Betty Thomas and Gloria Snead of Rochester, New York; Roger Wilson of San Diego, California.
SAMUEL COTTINGHAM -- Samuel Francis Cottingham, 68, husband of Beatrice Gamble Disher Cottingham, died Thurs., Dec. 5, 2002, at his residence in Greeleyville. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Robert Huggins, the Rev. Gary Adams and the Rev. Dr. Thomas Summers, were held Sat., Dec. 7, 2002, at Kingstree United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Kingstree Memorial Gardens. Mr. Cottingham was born Sept. 18, 1934, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Mary Lee Cole Cottingham Boyd and Mitchell Carodine Cottingham. He was preceeded in death by his step-father, William Preston Boyd of Trio. He was a graduate of Williamsburg High School and attended Clemson University. He was the owner of Sam's Shoe Service in Kingstree for 40 years, having retired in 2000. He served on the Williamsburg County Council for 16 years, having served as vice chairman, maintenance supervisor and director of the public works department. He was former member of the Williamsburg County Development Board, Williamsburg County Draft Board and chairman of the Williamsburg County Council on Aging. He was a member of Kingstree Masonic Lodge #46 and a lifelong member and lay leader of Trio United Methodist Church. Survivors, in addition to his wife of Greeleyville, are: his daughter, Frances C. McCrea of Kingstree; an adopted son, Cris McBride of Trio; four sisters, Juanita C. Gordon of Georgetown; Doris Lee C. McCants of North Charleston; Margaret B. Smith of Kingstree; and Marilyn B. Summers of Columbia; five brothers, Mitchell C. Cottingham of Manning; J. D. Cottingham of Lynchburg; Wallace R. Cottingham of Georgetown; Ralph E. Cottingham of Sumter; and Dr. Walter C. Cottingham. Memorials may be made to Trio United Methodist Church, 976 Rowell Road, Salters, South Carolina 29590.
LEOLA COOPER -- Funeral services for Mrs. Leola Lee Cooper, conducted by the Rev. Frank James, were held Sun., Dec. 8, 2002, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at the churchyard cemetery. Mrs. Cooper, 71, died Sun., Dec. 1, 2002, at Williamsburg Regional Hospital in Kingstree. She was born Dec. 3, 1930, the daughter of the Rev. Van Lee and the late Mrs. Susan Singletary Lee. She was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was employed as an office manager and bookkeeper in the family business she and her husband owned. She also was formerly employed as a nurse's aid in the Pauphin County Nursing Home in Harrisburg. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. Survivors, in addition to her father of Kingstree, are: her husband, Theodore W. Cooper of the home; one daughter, Wanda Cooper of Atlanta, Georgia; one son, Theodore L. Cooper of Charlotte, North Carolina; and two brothers, Thorns Lee of Charleston; and Keith Lee of Miami, Florida.
