LUCILLE BROWN -- Funeral services for Mrs. Lucille Edward Brown were held Mon., Dec. 16, 2002, at St. John United Methodist Church in Lake City. Burial, directed by Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home, followed at McKenzie-Brown Cemetery. Mrs. Brown died Thurs., Dec. 12, 2002, at Carolinas Hospital System-Florence.

ETHEL McELVEEN -- Ethel Leona Plowden McElveen, 80, died Tues., Dec. 10, 2002, in a Charlotte, North Carolina hospital. Graveside funeral services were held Fri., Dec. 13, 2002, in Williamsburg Cemetery. Mrs. McElveen was born in Abbeville, a daughter of the late James Covert Plowden and Ethel Wells Plowden. She was a graduate of Manning High School and Erskine College and was a retired long time educator in Williamsburg County. Mrs. McElveen was a member of the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. Survivors are: one son, George A. McElveen, III, of Charlotte, North Carolina; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

SARA BROWN -- Mrs. Sara Jane Brockinton Brown, 82, died Wed., Dec. 11, 2002, in a Kingstree hospital. Funeral services were held Sat., Dec. 14, 2002, at the Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Kingstree Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Brown was born in Nesmith, a daughter of the late Herbert Benjamin Brockinton and Olive Ann Nesmith Brockinton. She attended Williamsburg County schools and was a former member of Nesmith Baptist Church. Mrs. Brown was employed by Warsaw Manufacturing for many years and was a member of Cedar Swamp Methodist Church. Survivors are: her husband, G. Willard Brown of Kingstree; three sons, Bruce Brown of Kingstree; Allen Brown of Santa Rosa, California; and Harry Brown of Darlington; one daughter, Audrey Brown Harris of Coward; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

RICHARD GAREY -- Funeral services for Richard Allen Garey, conducted by the Rev. Johnny Vereen, were held Thurs., March 27, 2003, at Nazereth A.M.E. Church. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at the churchyard cemetery. Mr. Garey, 88, died Sun., March 23, 2003, at Williamsburg Regional Hospital. He was born July 15, 1904, in Kingstree, a son of the late Dave Garey and Annie King Garey. He was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was formerly employed with Andrews Wire company. He was a member of Nazereth A.M.E. Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, church deacon, Pastoršs Steward and church trustee. He was also a member of We Te Lodge. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Elease Garey of Andrews; one son, Richard Garey, Jr.; six daughters, Mrs. Birdie Sanders of New York City, New York; Mrs. Audrey Parson, Mrs. Lillie Rea Nesmith, Mrs. Sandra Dukes, Mrs. Debra J. Garey and Mrs. Brenda G. Ford, all of Andrews; one brother, Hamp Garey of Andrews; one sister, Mrs. Mrar Grantham of Moncks Corner; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

FREDDIE HUELL -- Funeral services for Freddie Lee Huell, conducted by the Rev. Samuel B. Cooper, were held Sat., March 22, 2003, at Jerusalem United Methodist Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Henry-hand Funeral Home, followed at the churchyard cemetery. Mr. Huell died March 14, 2003. He was born Feb. 4, 1938, in the Blakeley Community of Williams-burg County. He attended Blakely School. He was a member of Jerusalem United Methodist Church. While in Blakeley, he worked as a carpenter, and helped with the construction of Blakeley School. He moved to Miami, Florida, and was employed with South Florida Carpenters Union. In May of 1992, he returned to South Carolina and worked as a mechanic. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Barbara Huell of the home; one son, Freddie Huell of New York; four daughters, Jolene Huell, Sharita Green Huell of Americus, Georgia; Belinda Huell and Tangela Huell, both of Miami, Florida; two stepsons, Eugene Johnson of Miami, Florida; and William Cooper of New York; two step-daughters, April Meadows and Shonnae Jacques of Miami, Florida; three grandsons raised in the home, Antonio, Timothy and Maurice Meadows; three brothers, Dan Huell of Miami, Florida; Harry Huell of Salters; Clarence Huell of Salters; three sisters, Mrs. Ethel Frazier Wilson of Salters; Mrs. Catherine H. Carey of Camden, Delaware; and Aleane H. Lockhart of Kingstree; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Edith Meadows of Miami, Florida; a host of grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

ERNEST FULTON -- Funeral services for Ernest Fulton, conducted by the Rev. James Ernest Scott, were held Sat., March 29, 2003, at Morning Star Baptist Church in Nesmith. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Wilson Chapel First Baptist Churchyard Cemetery. Mr. Fulton, widower of Ether Mae Paul, died March 20, 2003, in Bronx, New York. He was born July 28, 1929, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Elijah and Laura Fulton. He attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was a member of Wilson Chapel United Methodist Church. He moved to New York and was employed with the New York City Housing Authority, retiring in 1995. Survivors are: five children, Ernestine Fulton, Willie G. Fulton Cliff Fulton, Rashawn Blanding and Kisha Marable; four sisters, Ella Mae Washington and Odell Cooper, both of Kingstree; Ida Bell Shaw of Bronx, New York; and Carrie Lou Griffen of West Palm Beach, Florida; one brother, Elijah Fulton, Jr. of Kingstree; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

LILLIE GILES -- Funeral services for Mrs. Lillie Mae Giles, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Lee Bines, were held Tues., April 1, 2003, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Greenlawn Cemetery. Mrs. Giles, 75, died Wed., March 26, 2003, at Regency Hospital in Florence. She was born May 1, 1927, a daughter of the late Benjamin Mouzon and Emma Parson Mouzon. She was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was formerly employed by Williamsburg Public School System. She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, where she served on the Kitchen Committee, Stewardess Board, Gospel Choir, Usher Board and United Methodist Women. She also was a member of the NAACP. Survivors are: three sons, the Rev. Colin Giles, Jr. of Kingstree; Jack Giles of Brooklyn, New York; and Earl McFadden of Goose Creek; two daughters, Larona Giles of Kingstree; and Mrs. Oree Gamble of Salters; one sister, Mrs. Emily Graham of Kingstree; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

RHODA WILLIAMS -- Funeral services for Mrs. Rhoda Williams, conducted by the Rev. Lee C. Bines, were held Fri., March 28, 2003, at Mount Zion United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by McClary Funeral Home, followed at Kingstree Cemetery. Mrs. Williams, a housewife, died March 21, 2003, at her residence in Kingstree. She was born Dec. 8, 1928, in Kingstree, a daughter of the late Dave and Rosa Lee Salters Fulton. She graduated from Tomlinson High School and attended Morris College. She was member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church. Survivors are: three daughters, Mrs. Gwen Tisdale and Audrey Williams, both of Kingstree; and Corenthia Williams of Columbia; five sons, Gregory Williams of Columbia; Kenneth Williams and David Williams, both of Kingstree; Priestly Williams of Oxen Hill, Maryland; and Eddie Williams of Jacksonville, North Carolina; one sister, Jane Ford of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and one brother, William Fulton of Brooklyn, New York.

MARY McCULLOUGH -- Funeral service for Mrs. Mary Ann Dotts McCullough, conducted by the Rev. Clemmon Grant, were held Tues., March 25, 2003, at Central Missionary Baptist Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Rockford Cemetery. Mrs. McCullough died Thurs., March 20, 2003, in Columbia. She was born July 31, 1939, in Salters, a daughter of the late Khodas Dotts and Louisa Mack Dotts. She was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was formerly employed as health care provider. She was a member of Central Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as president of the Usher Board, president of Missionary Society and sung of the senior choir. She was a member of Lillie White Chapter Order of Eastern Star #349, Williamsburg Missionary Baptist Usher Ministries and president of Farmers Aid Lodge #65. Survivors are: her husband, Wilson McCullough of Salters; three sons, David James Williams of Lake City; Sam Nelson, Jr. and Willie Mack Nelson, both of Salters; three daughters, Evelina Williams Capers, Loleta Williams both of Lane; and Odetta Williams of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; a grandchild who she reared, Erica Renee Williams of Salters; one brother, Adam Frierson of New York; three sisters, Mrs. Ceclia Mae Joe of Greeleyville; Mrs. Beatrice Anderson of Salters; and Mrs. Melinda Morton of New York; and three grandchildren.

THOMAS WASHINGTON, JR. -- Funeral services for Thomas Washington, Jr., conducted by Bishop Odell Fulton, were held Mon., March 24, 2003, at Sandridge Holiness Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Greenlawn Cemetery in Kingstree. Mr. Washington, 54, died Thurs., March 20, 2003, at McLeod Regional Medical Center. He was born Oct. 24, 1947, in Kingstree, a son of Mrs. Reather Cooper Washington Singletary and the late Thomas Washington, Sr. He was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was formerly employed as a sales clerk at Haigler Hardware. He was a member of Elijah United Methodist Church. He attended Sandridge Holiness Church in the Sandridge Community. Survivors, in addition to his mother, Mrs. Reather Washington Singletary of Kingstree, are: his wife, Mrs. Josie Ann Bradley Washington of Kingstree; five sons, Winfred Lanard Washington and Quentony Taroniel Washington, both of Columbia; Darren Washington and Rico Lovelle Washington, both of Kingstree; and Thomas Jermaine Washington of Kentucky; one brother, Calvin Washington of Kingstree; three sisters, Mrs. Ophelia Roger of Kingstree; Mrs. Catherine Gordon of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and Mrs. Barbara McGill of Michigan; his mother and father-in-law, Deacon Phillip Bradley and Missionary Annie Bradley of Kingstree; and 12 grandchildren.
