Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com ELIZA GAMBLE -- Funeral services for Mrs. Eliza Jane Gamble, conducted by the Rev. Benjamin Miller, were held Monday, March 17, 2003, at Old Mt. Zion A.M.E. Zion Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Mt. Olive Missionary Church cemetery. Mrs. Gamble died Wed., March 13, 2003, in Myrtle Beach. She was born in Williamsburg County on May 12, 1945, a daughter of the late Phillip and Mary Alice Wilson Grant. She received her formal education at St. Mark High School. Survivors are: her husband, Elijah Gamble, Sr., four children, Mrs. Queen Swinton, Elijah Gamble, Jr., Berneatha Ann Gamble and Belissa Gamble; six sisters, Mary Wilson, Hester P. Grant, Martha Bryant, Sullie Grant, Johnnie Mae Grant and Janette Chandler; three brothers, Henry Grant, Royal H. Grant and Lewis Mitchum; and nine grandchildren.
RONALD WASHINGTON -- Funeral services for Ronald Orlando Washington, conducted by the Rev. Lee C. Bines, were held Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Greenlawn Cemetery. Mr. Washington, 27, a former restaurant manager, died Thurs., March 13, 2003, at his residence. He was born April 3, 1974, in Kingstree, a son of Mrs. Sarah Ferguson Washington and the late Ronald Washington. He received his formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, where he sang in various choirs. Survivors, in addition to his mother of the home, are: two sisters, Quintina Washington and Latoya Washington, both of the home; and four brothers, Donald Washington of the home; Michael Alston of Florence; Kevin Alston of Kingstree; and Derrick Alston of New York, New York.\
MAUDE TISDALE -- Funeral services for Mrs. Maude Elease Tisdale, conducted by the Rev. Frank James, were held Sat., March 15, 2003, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at the churchyard cemetery. Mrs. Tisdale, 87, died Mon., March 10, 2003, at Kingstree Nursing Facility. She was born May 10, 1915, in Kingstree, a daughter of the late Gordon Tisdale and Mary Bright Tisdale. She was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County and was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. Survivors are: one daughter, Mrs. Lizzie Mae Brown of Kingstree; one son, John Lewis Tisdale of Kingstree; a granddaughter she reared as her own, Mrs. Tina Amaker of Columbia; eight children; 30 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
WILLIAM SHEPLEY -- William J. Shepley, 35, a paramedic with the Florence County EMS, died Tues., March 11, 2003, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Memorial services were held Sat., March 15, 2003, at the Trinity United Methodist Church. Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home was in charge. Mr. Shepley was born March 13, 1967, in Myrtle Beach, a son of Robert Marion Shepley and Sandra Scott Shepley. He was an employee of the Florence County EMS and Fire Department assisting also in Williamsburg, Georgetown and Horry Counties. Survivors are: his wife, Leslie Goodman Shepley; one son, Robert Crutis Shepley; one daughter, Sandra Marie Shepley, all of Andrews; two brothers, James J. Shepley and Daniel R. Shepley, both of Myrtle Beach; one sister, Christine Marie Shepley of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; and his father-and-mother-in-law, Curtis Wayne and Brenda Marie Goodman of Garden City. Memorial may be made to your choice of EMS or the Fire Department.
ANNIE McCRAY -- Funeral services for Mrs. Annie Bell Hudson McCray, conducted by the Rev. Obed Conyers, were held Sat., March 15, 2003, at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Greeleyville. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at St. John Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. McCray, 88, died Mon., March 10, 2003, at her residence in Greeleyville. She was born Dec. 5, 1914, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Mack Hudson and Jannie Jones Hudson. She was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. Mrs. Mc-Cray was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Greeleyville. Survivors are: one son, Sam Willie McCray of Greeleyville; three daughters, Mrs. Lizzie Brown and Mrs. Margie China, both of Greeleyville; and Mrs. Sarah Houston of New Haven, Con-necticut; 17 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
HARRY MISHOE -- Harry Benjamin Mishoe, 81, died Thurs., March 13, 2003, at his residence. Funeral services were held Sat., March 15, 2003, at Brockington Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, directed by Brockington Funeral Home, followed at Lake City Cemetery. Mr. Mishoe was born in Conway, a son of Emma Kirby Mishoe and the late William Mayberry Mishoe. He was a retired business and tax consultant and member of Jacksonville First Baptist Church. He was a Mason, member of Lake City Lodge #193, and a shriner, member of the Omar Temple. He was a former Enrolled Agent, US Treasury Department and member of the National Association of Tax Practitioners. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors, in addition to his mother of Lake City, are: two daughters, Diane Adams of Jacksonville; and Harriett M. Whitlock of Florence; one son, David Mishoe of Columbia; four sisters, Sarah Porter and Joan Evans, both of Lake City; Kathryn Kyzer of Lexington; and Barbara Wall of Scranton; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
JIM McFADDEN -- Funeral services for James I. "Jim" McFadden, conducted by the Rev. Raye T. Nelson, were held Fri., March 7, 2003, at St. Paul A.M.E. Church. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at State Cemetery. Mr. McFadden died Sat., March 1, 2003, at Kingstree Nursing Facility. He was the son of the late Blanch Cooper, was born May 11, 1921, in Williamsburg County. He graduated from the public schools of Williamsburg County. He served in the US Army during World War II. He retired from Farmers Telephone Company (FTC) after 30 years of employment as the first black lineman in the area. He was a member of the PTA and was involved in his children's school activities. He was a civil rights activist with the Kingstree NAACP voters registration drive. He managed the Songs of Joys Gospel Group and the Kingstree Reds, the only black baseball team in Kingstree for many years. He was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, where he was the head of the Steward Board, class leader and the president of the senior choir and lead singer. Survivors are: four sons, James Carter McFadden, Willie Edward McFadden and Earl Julius McFadden of Kingstree; and David Wilson of Brooklyn, New York; nine daughters, Ruth Breland and Rose Allison, both of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Blanch Hill and Laura Gantt, both of Columbia; Daisy Boards and Sandra Fulton, both of Kingstree; Mary Richardson and Susie Resper, both of Washington, DC; and Odessa Ashley of Jacksonville, Florida; two granddaughters, he reared as his own, Yolanda McFadden of Atlanta, Georgia; and Ingra Woods of Florence; three sisters, Catherine Barr, Laura James and Bennie Chapman of Miami, Florida; two brothers, Leroy Cooper of Kingstree; and Jack Cooper of Miami, Florida; 23 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
MINNIE SCOTT -- Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie Williams Scott were held Tues., March 18, 2003, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at the Kingstree Cemetery. Mrs. Scott, 98, died Thurs., March 13, 2003, at Kingstree Nursing Facility. She was born Aug. 20, 1904, in Bonneau, a daughter of the late Mrs. Mariah Williams Savage. She attended the public schools of Williamsburg county. She was formerly em-ployed as a homemaker. She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovahıs Witness in Kingstree. Survivors are: seven sons, James Scott and Joseph Nathaniel Scott, both of Kingstree; David Scott of New York City, New York; John L. Scott of Hollis, New York; Charles W. Scott of Yellow Springs, Ohio; Harold Scott of Bronx, New York; and Wilford Scott of Hollis, New York; four daughters, Mrs. Lucille S. Holmes, Mrs. Bernetha Caus-well, Mrs. Minnie Thomas and Mrs. Barbara Fulmore, all of Kingstree; one she reared as her own, Derek Scott of Kingstree; one sister, Mrs. Elnora Williams of Phoenix, Arizona; and 44 grandchildren.
LULA BRADLEY -- Funeral services for Mrs. Lula Mae Salters Bradley, conducted by the Rev. Bernard Paige, were held Mon., March 17, 2003, at New Friendship Freewill Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Greenlawn Cemetery. Mrs. Bradley, 76, died Thurs., March 13, 2003, at Regency Hospital in Florence. She was born June 3, 1926, in Kingstree, a daughter of the late James Jimmy Salters and Selma Scott. She was educated in the public schools of Williams-burg County. She was formerly employed as a domestic worker. She was a member of New Friendship Baptist Church, where she served as past president of the Usher Board and Communion Steward President. She was a member of the gospel choir and Mutual Isrealites Society. Survivors are: her husband, Willie Gee Bradley, Jr., of Kingstree; one son, Leroy Bradley of Greenbelt, Maryland; one daughters, Mrs. Elretha Washington of Kingstree; seven brothers, Theodore Salters of New Haven, Connecticut; Benjamin Wilson of Stone Mountain, Georgia; David Brayboy and Harold Brayboy, both of Kingstree; Darby Brayboy of Charlotte, North Carolina; Kotel Brayboy of Stafford, Connecticut; and Earl Brayboy of Lake City; and three sisters, Mrs. Margaret McCrea of New Haven, Connec-ticut; Mrs. Elizabeth W. McCrea of Kingstree; and Mrs. Blanche Burgess of Standford, Connecticut.
SHIRLEY STEADMAN -- Funeral services for Mrs. Shirley Green Steadman, conducted by the Rev. Herbert Godwin, were held Sat., March 15, 2003, at Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home Chapel in Lake City. Burial, directed by Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Goodman Cemetery. Mrs. Steadman, 46, a homemaker, died Tues., March 11, 2003, at her residence. She was born Jan. 9, 1957, in the St. John Community of Sumter County to Charles Green and the late Carola Goodman Green. She received her formal education in the public schools of St. John Community of Sumter County. Survivors, in addition to her father of St. John, are: her husband, Joseph Steadman of the home; one son, Anthony Green of Sumter; one brother, Kelvin Green of Florence; and four sisters, Mrs. Mary Kennedy and Deloris Green, both of Sumter; Mrs. Linda Toney of Lynchburg; and Bobbie Jean Green of St. John; father- and mother-in-law, Rhuie and Ivery Stukes of Olanta.
