Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com IRENE SIMS -- Sylvia Irene McIntosh Sims, 62, died Sun., May 11, 2003, at Lake Marion Nursing Facility in Summerton. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Roger Tripp, were held Thurs., May 15, 2003, at the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning. Burial, directed by Stephens Funeral Home, followed at Turbeville Southern Methodist Church Cemetery in Turbeville. Born Sept. 26, 1940, in Turbe-ville, Mrs. Sims was a daughter of the late Earl McIntosh and Isabell Evans McIntosh Coker. She was a seamstress and a member of New Town Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors are: two daughters, Lorrie Sims of Effingham; and Becky McElveen of Turbeville; two sons, Donald Sims and Todd Sims of Kingstree; two brothers, Carson McIntosh of Fuller, California; and Joe McIntosh of Sumter; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
GUS McKNIGHT -- Funeral services for Lee Gus McKnight, conducted by the Rev. Alfred Griffin and Elder Dr. Linwood Cooper, were held Sat., May 3, 2003, at the Bethel United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Pressleyıs Funeral Home, followed at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mr. McKnight died Mon., April 28, 2003, at Palmetto Baptist Center in Columbia. Mr. McKnight, son of the late Harrison McKnight and Estell McCullough McKnight, was born Oct. 27, 1954, in Williamsburg County. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the senior choir and United Methodist Men's Club. He attended the public schools of Williamsburg County and received his plumbing certificate from Williamsburg Technical College. He worked as a partner at the McKnightıs Texaco Station. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Glennie W. McKnight; three daughters, Desiree, April and Krystal McKnight, all of Orangeburg; five brothers, Elmore McKnight of Kingstree; James McKnight of Miami, Florida; Harrison McKnight, Paul McKnight and Andy McKnight, all of Kingstree; Levern Burrows of Hemingway, who was reared as a brother; two sisters, Mrs. Lorine Shaw of Miami, Florida; and Mrs. Roberta Gray of Hemingway.
VONNIE WELCH -- Vonnie Mae Welch, 58, died Wed., May 14, 2003, in a Kingstree hospital. Funeral services were held Fri., May 16, 2003, at the Cades Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial, directed by Brockington Funeral Home, followed at the church cemetery. Mrs. Welch was born in Florence, a daughter of the late Charley Willard and Idell Floyd Lamb. Survivors are: her husband, Charles H. Welch of Kingstree; one daughter, Amy Barfield of Kingstree; one sister, Lucille Floyd of Cades; one brother, Wilbert Floyd of Cades; and two grandchildren.
ELIZABETH PENDERGRASS -- Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Williams Pendergrass, conducted by the Rev. Francis Burrows, were held Sat., May 17, 2003, at Siloam Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Greenlawn Cemetery . Mrs. Pendergrass, 86, died Mon., May 12, 2003, in Miami, Florida. She was born April 17, 1917, in Kingstree, a daughter of the late Elijah Williams and Fannie Graham Williams. She was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County and graduated Tomlinson High School. She was a member of Siloam Baptist Church. Survivors are: three son, James Everett Pendergrass and Harley Levi Pendergrass, both of Miami, Florida; and Phadus W. Pendergrass of New York City, New York; one daughter, Mrs. Blondell Pendergrass of Miami, Florida; two sons, James Williams of New York City, New York; and Ernest Williams of Kingstree; two sisters, Mrs. Almateen Williams of Los Angeles, California; and Mrs. Rodell Fulton of Charleston; and two grandchildren.
BOB WHITE -- Bob P. White, 85, of Jacksonville, Florida, died Wed., May 7, 2003, at Avante Villa Nursing Center in Jacksonville Beach. He was born in Belvue, Kansas. He resided in Kingstree from 1971 to 1973, where he was employed by Manpower (Williamsburg Technical College). He retired from the US Navy in 1970 with the rank of Lt. Commander. He was veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. A member of Lake Lodge #50, of Silver Lake, Kansas for 62 years, he was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Sally R. White, a son, Carl L. Ard and daughter, Reba G. Haller. On May 12, Mr. White was given a full military burial with graveside service at Arlington Park Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida. Survivors are: his daughter, Pat Hanniford Brown of Manning; one daughter, Betty Spence; and one son, Donald R. White of Jacksonville; one brother, William White; one sister, Peggy O'Dom of California; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to VFW National Home for Children, 3573 S. Waverly Road, Eaton Rapids, Michigan 48827 or the church or charity of your choice.
TRINETTE BROWN -- Funeral services for Trinette Marie Brown, conducted by the Rev. James Ernest Scott, were held on Sat., May 8, 2003, at Black River Baptist Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Wilson Chapel First Baptist Churchyard Cemetery. Miss Brown, 30, died Tues., April 22, 2003, in Orlando, Florida. She was born Sept. 6, 1972, in West Palm Beach, Florida, a daughter of Carrie Brown Griffin and Virgil Lee Griffin. She attended Kingstree Junior High School and graduated form Sun Coast High School. Survivors, in addition to his parents of West Palm Beach, Florida, are: one daughter, Carrie Lee Nicole Brown of Orlando, Florida; two sisters, Carolyn James of Rivera Beach, Florida; and Brenda Cuthbertson of St. Petersburg, Florida; and five brothers, Kenneth Brown of Belle Glade, Florida; John E. Brown of Riviera Beach, Florida; Tony Brown of Newton, Alabama; Virgil L. Griffin of Orlando, Florida; and Robert L. Griffin or Orlando, Florida.
JANETTE WILSON -- Funeral services for Mrs. Janette Everington Wilson, conducted by Rev. Joseph Cobin, were held April 29, 2003, at St. Mary A.M.E. Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at churchyard cemetery. Mrs. Wilson died Thurs., April 24, 2003. She was born Dec. 3, 1935, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Henry Everington and Emily Darby Everington. She received her formal education at Williamsburg County Training School, and was employed by Oneita Knitting Mills. She was a member of St. Mary A.M.E. Church, where she was a member of the Hallelujah choir, a church school teacher and devotional leader for the prayer band. Survivors are: her children, Barbara McBride, Lambert Wilson, Janoris Graham, Linda Pressley, all of Salters; and Windell Bull of Conway; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
JERRY KNIGHT -- Jerry Knight, 45, died Mon., June 30, 2003, in a Florence hospital. Graveside services, directed by Brockington Funeral Home, were held Wed., July 2, 2003, in the Matthews Cemetery in Coward. Mr. Knight was born in Florence County, a son of the late Eugene and Lorene Springs Knight and was a farmer. Survivors are: one sister, Susan McCrea of Kingstree; and two brothers, Buddy Conyers and Billy Conyers, both of Coward.
WILLIE WOODS, SR. -- Willie James "Bubba" Woods, Sr., 57, formerly of Salters, a backhoe operator for pipeline construction, died Wed., June 25, 2003, in Hollywood Medical Center in Hollywood, Florida. Memorial services, conducted by the Rev. Terrance Washington, were held Thurs., July 3, 2003, at the William N. Redmond Chapel in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Crossroads Cemetery. Mr. Woods was born March 13, 1946, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late James Lemiah Woods and Lue Jane McClary Woods. He received his formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was a member of Black River Baptist Church. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Barbara Jean Brown Woods of Greeleyville; one son, Willie James Woods, Jr., of Greeleyville; two daughters, Theresa Woods of Greeleyville; and Treasa T. Cooper of Salters; one sisters, Rose Woods of Salters; five brothers, Lemiah Woods of Brunswick, Georgia; Leroy Woods and Freddie Woods, both of Wilmington, Delaware; Harold Woods of Greeleyville; and Travis Chatman of Salters; and eight grandchildren.
RHUE CONYERS -- Rhue P. "Doddie" Conyers, 70, a retired machine operator for Baxter Pharmaceutical Plant, died Thurs., July 3, 2003, at McLeod Regional Hospital in Florence. Funeral services for Mr. Conyers, conducted by Bishop L. H. Burns, were held Sun., July 6, 2003, at the Union United American Freewill Baptist Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at the Kingstree Cemetery. Mr. Conyers was born Jan. 5, 1933, in Kingstree, a son of the late Ulysses Conyers and Winnie Fulton Conyers. From the age of one year, he was reared by his step-mother, the late Mrs. Fannie C. Conyers. He received his formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was a member of Union United American Freewill Baptist Church. He was a former employee of Redmond Funeral Home of Kingstree and retired in 1995 from Baxter. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Ella Cooper Conyers of Kingstree; one step-son, James Edward Johnson of Ft. Raleigh, Kansas; a niece, reared as a daughter, Mrs. Mary Boyd of Kingstree; and one sister, Mrs. Sarah Lee Burgess of the home.
