Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com JACOB WILSON, SR. -- Funeral services for Jacob I. Wilson, Sr., conducted by the Rev. Levern O. Brown, were held Thurs., July 17, 2003, at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at McGill Cemetery in Kingstree. Mr. Wilson, 77, died Mon., July 14, 2003, at his residence in Kingstree. He was born on May 29, 1926, in Salters, a son the late McNeil "Titmus" Wilson and Carrie Lourene Giles Wilson. He received his formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee. He was a member of the NAACP, Joint Stock Lodge, Mouzon's Men Club, Pride of Rosehill Masonic Lodge and founder Mouzon Community Center. He retired from Williamsburg County Public Works. Survivors are: his wife, Rosa Lee Wilson of the home; three sons, Jacob Wilson, Jr., and Derry Wilson, both of Kingstree; and Randy Wilson of the home; nine daughters, Barbara Staggers of Hillside, New Jersey; Lizzie Farrow of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Shirley Ombu, Bouletha Harrison, Patricia Prater, Sarah Wilson and Angel Wilson, all of Kingstree; and Carrie Wilson of the home; three brothers, Ardell Wilson of Martinsville, Virginia; Joseph Wilson of Charleston; and Levan Wilson of Kingstree; 22 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
ROBERT RAY -- Robert Ellis Ray, 75, husband of Louise Harrington Ray, died Mon., July 14, 2003, at his home in Greeleyville. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Grover Mixon, were held Thursday, July 17, 2003, at Greeleyville Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Stephens Funeral Home, followed at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Born August 1, 1927, in Scranton, he was a son of the late Lonnie and Canzie Belle Powell Ray. He was retired from Albany International in St. Stephen, a United States veteran and a member of Greeleyville Baptist Church. Survivors, in addition to his wife of Greeleyville, are: two sons, Paul Ray of Manning; and Darin Powell of Greeleyville; one daughter, Rosie Osborne of Salters; six step-daughters, Edna Moody, Debbie Ray and Sadie Ray of Greeleyville; Kathie Ard and Becky Ardis of Manning; and Linda Proctor of Piedmont, Alabama; 12 step-grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Greeleyville Baptist Church, Post Office Box 276, Greeleyville, South Carolina 29056.
HAZEL McCRAY -- Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Hazel Smith McCray, conducted by the Rev. Virgil Hammett, and directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, were held on Thurs., July 17, 2003, at A.B. Smith-Cooper Cemetery. Mrs. McCray died July 12, 2003. She was born July 5, 1924, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Abraham Benjamin Smith and Viola Conyers Smith and stepmother Mary Tiller Smith. She attended the public schools of Williamsburg County and graduated from Allen University with a bachelor of arts degree in English. She continued her education at North Carolina A&T and South Carolina State Univeristy. She began teaching elementary school and later high school. She lived and worked in Baltimore, Maryland, Jamaica and Brooklyn, New York, and Erie, Pennsylvania from 1959 to 1972. While in Erie, she was recognized and awarded for her outstanding work as head teacher for the Booker T. Washington Centerıs Daycare Program. Upon returning home to Salters, she taught a special education program for children with disabilities in Greeleyville. She also taught at Battery Park High in Hemingway for many years before retiring from D.P. Cooper Elementary and High School in Salters in 1988. She was married to the late Peter Alfred McCray and Harley E. McClary of Kingstree. She was a member of St. Phillip A.M.E. Church of Salters, where she was a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Stewardess Board, the Choir and the Missionary Board. Survivors are: her children, Myron Bernard McClary of Kingstree; Ava M. Brumfield of Columbia; Tonya V. McClary and Patricia McClary Barr, both of Salters; three sisters, Hannie S. Cooper of Salters; Ruth S. Mayfield of Largo, Florida; and Trannie S. Murdock of Baltimore, Maryland; one broher, Olin D. Hamlet of Washington, D.C.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
ILA SCOTT -- Funeral services for Mrs. Ila Mabelle McClary Scott, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Herman Gibson and Elder James Hannah, were held Wed., July 2, 2003, at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Bethel United Methodist Church in Kingstree. Mother Scott was born Dec. 28, 1916, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Nelson and Carrie Dukes McClary. She attended Cain Branch School in the Millwood Community and later transferred to Holmes Elementary School in Florence. She was the lead singer of the Gospel Trio with Mother Carrie and Sister Ariana that aired on WDKD radio station in Kingstree on Sunday mornings for numerous years. She was married to the late William "Bonna" Scott. She was a member of Goodwill Holiness Church. Survivors are: one son, Jerry Scott of Kingstree; one sister, Ariana McClary Johnson; and her nieces and nephews, to whom she was also a mother, Lela Elizabeth "Tee" McCrea, Johnnie Nelson Johnson and Aaron Lee Johnson, all of Kingstree; Elvira of Bronx, New York; and Ophelia Tisdale of Rochester, New York.
MILDRED HARVLEY -- Mildred Dargan Welch Harvley, 88, of Sanford, North Carolina, died Wed., July 16, 2003, at Parkview Retirement Center. A native of Darlington, Mrs. Harvley was a daughter of the late Benton DuBose Dargan and Mildred Ervin Dargan. She was married to the late Sterling Welch and J.C. Harvley. Graveside funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Sam Cooper, and directed by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home, were held Sat., July 19, 2003, at Grove Hill Cemetery in Darlington. Survivors are: two daughters, Mildred W. "Mitzi" Pridgen of Kingstree; and Deetz W. Mullins of Sanford, North Carolina; one brother, Ervin E. Dargan of Darlington; three sisters, Sara Williamson of Darlington; Frances Clarkson of Sumter; and Bess Barron of Rock Hill; two grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Post Office Box 5216, Glen Allen, Virginia 23058-5216.
HEYWARD ROSE, SR. -- Funeral services for Heyward Johnny Rose, Sr., conducted by the Rev. Francis Mitchell, were held at St. Stephens Baptist Church in Cades on July, 2003. Mr. Rose, 87, formerly of Lake City, died Wed., July 16, 2003, at the Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He was born Oct. 20, 1915. He was a member of St. Stephens Baptist Church. He was married to the late Julia Ann Henry Rose. Survivors are: seven sons, Roosevelt Washington, Heyward Rose, Jr., and Ruben Rose, all of Lake City; Johnny C. Rose of Pehoekee, Florida; Clifton Rose, Joe Roe and Sugar Ray Rose, all of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; five daughters, Lula Mae Washington of Deerfield Beach, Florida; Pattie Ann Rose, Catherine Rose and Lucille Rose, all of Pehoekee, Florida; and Wilhelmenia Myers of Lake City; two brothers, Ambers Rose of Quinby, South Carolina; and A.J. Rose of Lake City; one sister, Lucille Rose of Lake City; 35 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
APRIL OWENS -- Mrs. April Cox Owens, 80, wife of the late Rufford W. Owens, died Fri., July 18, 2003, at her residence. Funeral services were held Sun., July 20, 2003, at the Hebron United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Brockington Funeral Home, followed at Lake City Memorial Park. Mrs. Owens was born in Lake City, a daughter of the late Rollie M. and Mary Sivel Godwin Cox. She was a homemaker and member of Hebron United Methodist Church. Survivors are: two daughters, Arnette Irvan of Goose Creek and Dianne Pierce of Cades; three sons, William R. Owens, James R. ³Rusty² Owens and Kenneth G. Owens, all of Cades; one sister, Juel Cooper of Macedonia; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
ANTENETTE FULMORE -- Funeral services for Mrs. Antenette S. Fulmore, conducted by the Rev. Jerome Wilson and the Rev. Dr. Allen W. Parrott, were held Sat., July 19, 2003, at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Pressley's Funeral Home, followed at Greenlawn Cemetery. Mrs. Fulmore died Tues., July 15, 2003, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. She was born Oct. 27, 1964, in Kingstree, a daughter of Bernetha Singletary and Willie Singletary, Jr. She attended the public schools of Williamsburg County and graduated from Kingstree Senior High School on June 4, 1982. She obtained an associate of arts degree on May 21, 2001, along with a certificate in human services on May 10, 2003, from Williamsburg Technical College. She also completed an adult education program for health care assistant, a 52 hour course. She worked for Phoenix Medical Technology and the Department of Social Services for many years. Her religious education and spiritual development began at Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church of Kingstree. She served under the pastorship of her husband, the Rev. Franklin Fulmore, Sr., at the following churches: Bethel A.M.E. Church Camdentown; Greater Jerusalem of Sutton; and St. Paul A.M.E. Church of Cades. She was a dedicated member of the Daughters of Sarah, a Sunday school teacher and a Missionary leader. Survivors, in addition to her mother of Kingstree, are: her husband, the Rev. Franklin Fulmore, Sr.; three sons, Frankie, Jr., Ingram and Damain; and one daughter, Alysia Antenette Fulmore, all of the home; and her siblings, Mrs. Shelia Graham of Salters; Mrs. Debra Bradshaw of New York; Shanta Singletary of Kingstree; Alonza McFadden, Anthony Singletary, Jimmy Lee Sinlgetary, and Tyrone Singletary, all of Kingstree.
JESSIE TISDALE -- Funeral services for Jessie James "Nana" Tisdale were held Saturday, July 26, 2003, at Apostolic Bibleway Holiness Church. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Kingstree Cemetery. Mr. Tisdale, 35, died Mon., July 21, 2003, at his residence in Kingstree. He was born Jan. 27, 1968, in Kingstree, a son of the late Willie James Tisdale, Sr., and Annie Bell Tisdale. He received his formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County. He worked for several years at Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Later, he was employed by R.C. Jacobs. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Sylvatta Gamble Tisdale of the home; one daughter, Crystal Tisdale of Hemingway; three brothers, Willie James Tisdale, Jr., of Lake City; Jerry Tisdale and Willie Lee Tisdale, both of Kingstree; two sisters, Mrs. Doreen Scott and Shelia Mae Cunningham, both of Kingstree.
HATTIE GREENE -- Funeral services for Hattie Greene, conducted by the Rev. Carl Anderson, were held Wed., July 23, 2003, at Greater St. Stephen A.M.E. Church. Burial, directed by McClary Funeral Home, followed at Elijah United Methodist Church Cemetery. Ms. Greene, a seamstress and cosmetologist, died Thursday, July 17, 2003, at her home in Georgetown. She was born July 4, 1919, in Wilmington, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Jackson Greene and Janie McClary Greene. She was a member of Greater St. Stephen A.M.E. Church in Georgetown. Survivors are: one daughter, Mrs. Mary Ann Greene James of Georgetown; one sister, Mrs. Francena McCants of Georgetown; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
