Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com ALVIN WHITE, SR. -- Funeral services for Alvin "Al" Omare White, Sr. were held Sun., Aug. 10, 2003, at A. A. Rayner Funeral Home in Chicago, Illinois. Burial followed in Chicago, Illinois. Mr. White, formerly of Andrews, died Wed., Aug. 6 ,2003, at Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, a son of the late Arthur White, Sr. and Maude White. He received his formal education at St. Elizabeth Catholic High School in Chicago, Illinois. He continued his education by graduating from Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, where he served as an altar boy. He connected himself with Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in Andrews and St. Cyprian¹s Catholic Church in Georgetown. Having a strong work ethic, he was employed in various capacities: regional district manager for the District of Columbia and the states of Maryland and Delaware; district supervisor of Chicago Parks; car salesman for Tower Ford and Al Packer Lincoln Mercury of Baltimore, Maryland; Hoover and Gene Reed Dealerships of Summerville; and owner and manager of Al White Auto Sales of Andrews. His post semi-retirement employment including working as group counselor and facilitator for the Georgetown Alcohol and Drug Commission for Georgetown County in Georgetown. Mr. White was involved in several civic and social organizations: chair of the board of trustees for the Williamsburg County School District; past president of the Williamsburg County NAACP; chair of the board of directors of the Waccamaw Economic Opportunity Commission; member of the Williamsburg County Head Start Board; member of Williamsburg County Develop-ment Board; and member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Mary Ervin White of the home; eight children, Mrs. Ahtoi Gibbons of Abington, Pennsylvania; Alvin White, Jr. of Hightstown, New Jersey; Dr. LaLura Rose White of Chicago, Illinois; Thomas White of Mexico City, New Mexico; William White of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Eric White White and Sandra White, all of Chicago, Illinois; and Shirrisha White of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Vera Gant and Mary Nelson of Chicago, Illinois; and 17 grandchildren.
EARNEST SINGLETARY, SR.H -- Funeral services for Earnest Singletary, Sr., conducted by Elder James Hannah, were held Thurs., Aug. 28, 2003, at Believers Holiness Convention Center in Coward. Burial, directed by Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Sandhill Memorial Garden. Mr. Singletary, 54, died Mon., Aug., 25, 2003, at his residence in Lake City. He was born April 25, 1949, in Florence County, a son of the late Willard Singletary, Sr., and Alice Cooper Singletary. He received his formal education in the public schools of Florence County and graduated from Carver High School in 1966. He was a member of Central Believers Holiness Church, where he served as a trustee and a district level Sunday school advisor. He was married to the late Hattie L. Stuckey Singletary. Survivors are: four sons, Earnest Singletary, Jr., of Florence; Sedrick Singletary, I, of Atlanta, Georgia; Corie Singletary of O¹Fallon, Illinois; and Erskine Singletary of Lake City; two brothers, Willard Singletary of Lake City; and Donald Singletary of Nonan, Georgia; eight sisters, Juanita Singletary, Estelle McLeon and Barbara S. Eaddy, all of Lake City; Mrs. Annie Dicks of Rockberry, Massachusetts; Mrs. Mary Bankcole of East Point, Georgia; Betsy Singletary of Houston, Texas; Mrs. Alice Lewis of Spring, Texas; and Mrs. Carolyn Benjamin of Georgetown; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Lillie Mae Stuckey of Lake City; and one grandson.
SHARON EPPS -- Funeral services for Pastor Sharon Williametta Adamson Epps, conducted by Elder Alvin Taylor, were held Sat., Aug. 30, 2003, at Faith United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Faith United Metho-dist Church Cemetery. Pastor Epps, 58, died Tues., Aug. 26, 2003, at McLeod Regional Medical Center. She was born Jan. 27, 1945, a daughter of the late William Adamson and Lizzie Gregg Adamson. She attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was the pastor of Home and Foreign Missions. Survivors are: two sons, Oscar L. Epps of Kingstree; and William K. Epps of Buford, Georgia; three daughters, Mrs. Josa McIntosh of Buford, Georgia; Charyl L. Epps of Mobile, Alabama; and Ashaunta A. Epps of Durham, North Carolina; two brothers, John Wesley Adamson of Kingstree; and Willie Joe Adamson of Manning; three sisters, Mrs. Ruth McKnight of Kingstree; and Mrs. Diana McManus of Andrews; and Mrs. Juanita Singletary of Richmond, Virginia; and six grandchildren.
ROSA BURROUGHS -- Funeral services for Mrs. Rosa L. Williams Burroughs, conducted by the Rev. James Hanna, were held Friday, September 12, 2003, at Sandridge Believers Holiness Church. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed in Kingstree Cemetery. Mrs. Burroughs, 95, died Sunday, September 7, 2003, at Mc- Leod Regional Hospital. She was born December 3, 1907, a daughter of the late Ben and Elizabeth Thomas Barr. She was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. Mrs. Burroughs was a member of Central Believers Holiness Church, of which her husband was founder and pastor. She was also mother of the church. She also visited Sandridge Holiness Church and Trinity Holiness Church. Survivors include: one son, John S. Williams of Kingstree; one adopted son, Joe Nathan Williams of Florida; one adopted daughter, Mrs. Curlee Fulton of Kingstree; one sister, Mrs. Mattie Rush of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; and four grandchildren.
ALCESS MCCLARY -- Funeral services for Mrs. Alcess Murray McClary, conducted by the Rev. Amos Matthew, were held Friday, September 12, 2003, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed in the churchyard cemetery. Mrs. McClary, 85, died Sunday September 6, 2003, at Lake Moultrie Nursing Home. She was born November 15, 1915, a daughter of the late Moses and Alene Coard Murray. She attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. Mrs. McClary was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She was also a member of Liberty Works of Eastern Star No. 171. Survivors are: three sons, Willie McClary, Jr., and Vernon McClary, both of Salters; and Richard McClary of Ft. Washington, Maryland; two daughters, Mrs. Fannie Purvines of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Mrs. Martha McClary Brooks of Washington, D.C.; one grandson she reared as her own, Bryant McClary of Temple Hill, Maryland; and one brother, Edward Murray of Greeleyville.
ROBERT THOMAS -- Funeral services for Robert Thomas, conducted by the Rev. Sam Livingston, were held Saturday, September 13, 2003, at Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, conducted by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed in Antioch Baptist Cemetery. Mr. Thomas, 66, died Sunday, September 7, 2003, at Grandstrand Hospital in Myrtle Beach. He was born January 27, 1937, a son of the late Mrs. Classie Thomas. He attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. Survivors include: four sons, Mark Thomas, James Thomas and Robert Thomas, Jr., all of Myrtle Beach; and Eddie Lee Thomas of Kingstree; two daughters, Ms. Burnetta Zaiter of Myrtle Beach and Mrs. Laura Mae McClary of Rochester, New York; seven grandchildren he reared as his own, James Lamar Thomas of Mrytle Beach; Leon Allen McClary and Terry James McClary, both of Kingstree; Jessie James McClary, Jr., of Florence; Carolyn McClary, Rebecca McClary and Arnetha McClary, all of Kingstree; and one brother Joe Thomas of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
MARGARET BROWN -- Mrs. Margaret Cade Brown, 77, widow of John Melvin Brown, died Thurs., Sept. 11, 2003, in a Kingstree hospital. Funeral services were held Sun., Sept. 14, 2003, at the Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Kingstree Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Brown was born in Cades Community of Williamsburg County, a daughter of Lucille Johnson Cade and Samuel E. Cade. She attended Cades School and was a retired salesperson. Mrs. Brown was a member of Cedar Swamp United Methodist Church. Survivors are: one daughter, Johnette B. Hanna of Lugoff; one sister, Mildred C. Mouzon of Lake City; one brother, S.E. Cade, Jr., of Cades; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Cedar Swamp United Methodist Church.
SUSAN CONYERS -- Funeral services for Mrs. Susan Epps Conyers, conducted by the Rev. Clifford Levine, were held Wed., Sept. 17, 2003, at Bethel A.M.E. Church. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at McKnight Cemetery. Mrs. Conyers, 73, died Fri., Sept. 12, 2003, at Providence Northeast in Columbia. She was born Oct. 8, 1929, a daughter of the late Melvin Epps and Mary Chandler Epps. She attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was formerly employed as a housekeeper. She was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, where she sang in the senior choir. She also was a member of Home Charity Lodge, Young People Benefit Association and Community Christian Association. Survivors are: one daughter, Mrs. Louise Conyers Coles of Columbia; a devoted friend, Benjamin Wilson of Lane; three sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Benbow of Lane; Mrs. Nettie Brown of Petersburg, Virginia; and Mrs. Virgeree Berry of Jersey City, New Jersey; two brothers, Herbert McGill of Queens, New York; and Issac Epps of Ft. Myers, Florida; a sister-in-law who was like a sister, Mrs. Dora Ann Matthews of Lane; three adopted daughters, Mrs. Shirley Parson of Lane; Mrs. Angela Lane and Mrs. Gloria Coleman, both of Columbia; nieces and nephews, whom she reared, Wilbur Conyers and J.C. Conyers, both of Lane; Jacob Conyers of Ft. Myers, Florida; Joseph Matthew of Jersey City, New Jersey; Mrs. Margaret Moore and Esther Matthews, both of Salters; and three grandchildren.
NATHANIEL GAMBLE, SR. -- Funeral services for Bishop Nathaniel Gamble, Sr., conducted by Minister Peter James Cobb, were held Fri., Sept. 19, 2003, at the Church of God and True Holiness in Georgetown. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Greenlawn Cemetery. Bishop Gamble, 58, died Mon., Sept. 15, 2003, at Williamsburg Regional Hospital. He was born Dec. 31, 1944, in Williamsburg County, a son of Eli Gamble, Sr., and the late Mrs. Henrietta Alston Gamble. He attended and graduated from Tomlinson High School in 1963 and later attended Williamsburg Manpower Center. He was formerly employed by Baxter Travanol Laboratory for a number of years and retired from Phoenix Glove Manufacturing Company. Bishop Gamble was overseer of the Church of God and True Holiness in Georgetown, Morrisville, Eastover and Florence. Survivors, in addition to his father of Kingstree, are: his wife, Mrs. Geraldine Dozier Gamble of the home; four sons, Nathaniel Gamble, Jr., and Sanfred O. Gamble, Sr., both of Eastover; Norbert Gamble, Sr., and Nolan O. Gamble, both of Kingstree; three daughters, Bernadette Gamble of Columbia; Mrs. Vickie Anderson of Eastover; and Mrs. Gabrielle Montgomery of Hopkins; four brothers, Elder Eli Gamble, Jr., Amos Gamble and Randolph Gamble, all of Kingstree; and Benny Joe Gamble of Washington, DC; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Ethel Cooper, Mrs. Jannie Bell Cobb, Mrs. Linda Uwagbai and Cynthia Gamble, all of Kingstree; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Geneva Dozier of Kingstree; and 13 grandchildren.
GULLY SHAW -- Funeral services for Mrs. Gully Shaw, conducted by Bishop Roosevelt Fulton, were held Thurs., Sept. 18, 2003, at Evangelistic Temple Way of the Cross Church. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Burial followed at St. Paul United Methodist Cemetery. Mrs. Shaw, 97, died Sun., Sept. 14, 2003, at her residence in Kingstree. She was born May 20, 1906, a daughter of the late Walter James Murphy and Nora Williams Murphy. She was a member of Evangelistic Temple Way of the Cross Church. Survivors are: her son, Willie Shaw, Jr., of Kingstree; four daughters, Mrs. Jerline Brown of Kingstree; and Mrs. Mary Rowe of Greeleyville; four brothers, Walter Murphy of Rochester, New York; Alton Murphy, David Mack and James Mack, all of Kingstree; one who was like a son, Eddie Chatman of Greeleyville; 21 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
