Roosevelt Geddis, were held Wed., Nov. 19, 2003, at St. John United Methodist Church in Lake City. Burial, directed by Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home, followed at the White Oak Cemetery. Mr. Gamble, 86, died Sun., Nov. 16, 2003, at his residence in Lake City. He was born March 15, 1917, in Clarendon County, a son of the late Henry Gamble and Mary Ann Conyers Gamble. He received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County. Mr. Gamble was a member of St. John United Methodist Church, where he was on the Steward Board. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth M. Gamble of Deerfield Beach, Florida; one son, Willie James Gamble of Deerfield Beach, Florida; one daughters, Maebell McLendon of Deerfield Beach, Florida; six step-children, James Gaskins, Leroy Gaskins, Mrs. Mary Lee Singletary, Pearlie Fulmore and Mrs. Eva M. McGill, all of Lake City; and Dessie Graham of Bronx, New York; one brother, Sammie Gamble, Sr., of Lake City; and two sisters, Mrs. Martha Woods of Bronx, New York; and Mrs. Maggie Singletary of Lake City.
ELIZABETH GAMBLE -- Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth 'Nig' Bryant Gamble, conducted by the Rev. Willie Bryant and the Rev. Wilkie Samuels, were held Thurs., Nov. 20, 2003, at Union Baptist Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Rocky Ford Cemetery. Mrs. Gamble, 73, died Sun., Nov. 16, 2003, at Lake Moultrie Nursing Center in St. Stephen. Mrs. Gamble was born July 28, 1930, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of Yete McClary and Alice Bryant McClary. She received her formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was a member of Union Baptist Church. Later in life, she moved to Richmond, Virginia, and attended Salem Baptist Church. For more than 27 years, she was employed as a private duty home healthcare nursešs aid in New Jersey. She was married to Alex Gamble. Survivors are: three brothers, Leroy McElveen, Smith McElveen and Charles McElveen, all of Salters; and three sisters, Mary Scott and Oree Diaz, both of New Haven, Connecticut; and Mrs. Minnie Nesmith of Kingstree.
WILLIAM GAMBLE, SR. -- Funeral services for William Gamble, Sr., conducted by the Rev. Jack Dias, were held Saturday November 22, 2003, at St. James A.M.E. Church. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed in the churchyard cemetery. Mr. Gamble, 91, died Monday, November, 17, 2003, in Jackson-ville, Florida. He was born January 1, 1912, a son of the late Elijah Gamble and Mary Gamble. He attended the public schools of Williamsburg County and was formerly employed as a construction worker on the railroad. Mr. Gamble was a member of Interna-tional Bibleway church. Survivors include: three sons, William Gamble, Jr., and Grover Gamble, both of Jacksonville, Florida; and Frank Gamble of New Haven, Connecticut; two daughters, Mrs. Ida Bright and Mrs. Mary Lee Jones, both of New Haven, Connecticut; one brother, Frank Gamble of Georgetown, 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
REGINA McCUTCHEN -- Funeral services for Mrs. Regina (Genie) Evans McCutchen, 84, widow of Hugh McCutchen, were held Thursday, November 20, 2003, in the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed in Williamsburg Cemetery. Mrs. McCutchen died Tuesday, November 18, in a Greenville hospital. She was born in New Zion, a daughter of the late Horace Harvey Evans and Annie Morris Evans. She was an active member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, where she served in many phases of its work, both local and on the Presbytery level. She was also active in her community as a Hospital and Hospice volunteer and was a regular visitor at the local nursing home. Survivors include: one daughter, Ann M. Swasko of Travelers Rest; two sons, James Hugh McCutchen, Jr., of Florence; and Willie McCutchen of Kingstree; one sister Eleanor Evans of Kingstree; one brother, Lynn Evans of Glendale, Arizona; and six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Williamsburg Presbyterian Church or Tidelands Community Hospice.
JOSEPH HEMINGWAY, JR. -- Funeral services for Joseph Hemingway, Jr., conducted by the Rev. Dr. W.L. Thompson, were held Monday, November 24, 2003, at Mr. Claire Baptist Church in Lake City. Burial, directed by Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home followed in the St. Luke A.M.E. Church Cemetery. Mr. Hemingway, 70, died Thursday, November 20, 2003, at his residence after an illness. He was born April 28, 1933, in Williamsburg county, a son of the late Joseph Hemingway, Sr., and Evelyn Vereen Hemingway. He received his formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County and was a member of Mt. Claire Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Roman William Hemingway. Survivors include: four daughters, Mrs. Jessie McClam of Florence; Ms. Mammie Eaddy and Mrs. Rosa McKenzie, both of Kingstree; and Ms. Lisa McFadden of Lake City; one stepson, Terrence McClam of Ft. Stewart, Georgia; one stepsister, Ms. Katrina Brayboy of Sumter; thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
JEKHARI WOODBURY -- Graveside services for Baby Boy Jekhari Paul Woodbury, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, were held Fri., Sept. 26, 2003, at St. Mark Church Cemetery in Kingsburg, South Carolina. Survivors are: his mother, Kristen Chantel Woodbury of Hemingway; and his grandmother, Mrs. Siner Mae Woodbury of Hemingway.
EZARY FULTON -- Funeral services for Ezary Bush Fulton, conducted by Elder Pratt, were held Sat., Sept. 27, 2003, at Church of God and True Holiness in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Goodwill Cemetery. Mr. Fulton, 62, died Tues., Sept. 23, 2003. He was born Oct. 22, 1940, a son of the late Mullie Fulton and Henrietta Page Fulton. He attended the public schools of Williams-burg County. He was self employed as a brickmason. He was a member of Church of God and True Holiness. Survivors are: one son, Kenneth Fulton of Kingstree; three daughters, Barbara Fulton, Ada Fulton and Bernarda Fulton, all of Kingstree; two brothers, Leroy Fulton and James Fulton, Jr., both of Kingstree; and three sisters, Mrs. Hattie Mae Ward, Mrs. Rebecca Pressley, both of Washington, DC; and Mrs. Bernice Glover of New York.
WILBUR FILYAW -- Wilbur Jahue Filyaw, 67, died Fri., Sept. 26, 2003, in a Lake City hospital. Funeral services were held Sun., Sept. 28, 2003, at Floyd Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial, directed by Brockington Funeral Home, followed at the church cemetery. Mr. Filyaw was born in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Willie and Ruby Conyers Filyaw. He was a retired farmer and member of Floyd Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher, and was a member of Puddin' Swamp Hunting Club. Survivors are: his wife, Grethel Mims Filyaw of Cades; one daughter, Brenda Miles of Cades; one son, Steve Allen Filyaw of Cades; one sister, Celesta McCutcheon of Lake City; four brothers, John Filyaw, Curtis Filyaw, Delos Filyaw and Wesley Filyaw, all of Lake City; and three grandchildren.
MARQUIS GREEN -- Graveside services for Baby Boy Marquis Bernard Green, conducted by the Rev. Albert J. Rose, were held Sat., Sept. 27, 2003, at St. James Baptist Church Cemetery in Greeleyville. Baby Boy Green died Thurs., Sept. 25, 2003, in Columbia, a son of Alvin Green and Marquisha Cherell Cooper. Survivors, in addition to his parents, are: one brother, Tyrione Green of Columbia; his paternal grandmother, Barbara Green of Columbia; his maternal grandparents, John and Kimberly Byas of Columbia; his paternal grandfather, Marquis Cooper of Hallandale, Florida; his maternal great-grandmother, Janie M. Woods of Greeleyville; and his paternal great-grandparents, Alphonso and Jeannie Cooper of Hallandale, Florida; and John and Johnnie Mae Byas of Flushing, New York.
REBECCA ALLEN -- Funeral for Mrs. Rebecca Durant Allen were held Fri. Nov. 28, 2003. Burial, directed by Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home, followed in the Lee Cemetery in Scranton. Mrs. Allen, 64, died Friday, November 21, 2003, at her residence in Coward after an extended illness. She was born Mary 8, 1939, in Sumter County, a daughter of the late John Andrew Durant and Louise Green Durant. Survivors include: her husband, Levern "Sonny" Allen, Sr., of the home; two sons, Levern Allen, Jr., of Phoenix, Arizona, and Bobby Leroy Allen of the home; one daughter, Ms. Sarah Mae Allen of Lake City; two brothers, E.C. Durant of Columbia and Isaac Durant of Baltimore, Maryland; two sisters, Mrs. Lillie B. Graham of Lake City and Mrs. Barbara Waiters of Baltimore, Maryland; and a host of grandchildren.
