Richard Addison, were held Sat., Nov. 29, 2003, at Trinity Baptist Church in Greeley-ville. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed in Keels Cemetery in Greeleyville. Mr. Pompey, 89, widower of Florence Keels Pompey, died Nov. 23, 2003, at his residence in Greeleyville. He was born March 9, 1914, in Greeleyville, a son of the late Mose Pompey, Sr., and Beulah Dukes. He received his formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. He was a lifelong farmer. Survivors include: five children, Mrs. Azalee Mouzon, Mrs. Margaret Gourdine and George Pompey, Jr., all of Greeleyville; Willie Pompey and Lee Pompey, both of Plainfield, New Jersey; three sisters, Mrs. Beulah Dukes of Greeleyville; Mrs. Geneva Daniels and Mrs. Johnnie Mae Young, both of Troy, New York; three brothers, Mose Pompey, Jr., and Roosevelt Pompey, both of Troy, New York; and Willie James Pompey of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
MATTIE CHANDLER -- Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie Chandler, conducted by the Rev. Lennard Huggins, were held Sat., Nov. 29, 2003, at Friendship United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Chandler Cemetery. Mrs. Chandler, 72, died Mon., Nov. 17, 2003, in San Francisco, California. She was born Feb. 12, 1931, a daughter of the late Eddie Nesmith and Caldonia Nesmith. She attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was a member of Third Baptist and Jones United Methodist Church. Survivors are: one son, Kenneth Chandler of San Francisco, California; one daughter, Mrs. Carolyn Chandler-Pickens of San Francisco; one brother, James Nesmith of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; one sister, Mrs. Toynell Nesmith of Hartford, Connecticut; and two grandchildren.
NETTIE PENDERGRASS -- Funeral services for Mrs. Nettie Mae "Bit" Pendergrass, conducted by the Elder Linwood Cooper, were held Fri., Nov. 28, 2003, at Trinity Believers Holiness Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Kingstree Cem-etery. Mrs. Pendergrass, 67, died Mon., Nov. 24, 2003, at Carolinas Hospital System-Florence. She was born June 28, 1936, in Kingstree, a daughter of the late Elon Tisdale, Sr., and Alice Brown. She received her formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was a member of Trinity Holiness Church, where she was a member of the Usher Board. She was married to the late Jeff Pendergrass. She worked for a number of years as a certified nurse's assistant at Kingstree Nursing Facility in Kingstree, Ron McNair Nursing Home of Lake City, and St. Ann Nursing Home of Rochester, New York. Survivors are: three sons, Roosevelt 'Dee' Bryant of Manhattan, New York; Leonard Bryant of Kingstree; and Leverne Bryant of the home; four daughters, Lenora Bryant and Alice Bryant, both of Brooklyn, New York; Veronica Cyrus of Charlotte, North Carolina; and Bessie 'Penny' Bry-ant of Kingstree; her step-mother, Mrs. Alice Tisdale of Kingstree; seven brothers, Leverne Tisdale of Kingstree; William Fluitt and Robert Fluitt, both of Rochester, New York; Bruce Tisdale, James Tisdale and Isaac Tisdale, all of Hollywood, Florida; and Theodore Tisdale of Ft. Myers, Florida; five sisters, Francena Bryant of Brooklyn, New York; Joann Robinson of Miami, Florida; Barbara Jean Williams of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Kathy Tisdale and Rosalind McClary, both of Kingstree; a special granddaughter, Alexia Wright of Charlotte, North Carolina; twenty additional grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
DOROTHY ELMORE -- Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Lee Wilson Elmore, conducted by the Rev. Edward Roberts and Minister Anthony Gilliard, were held Sat., Nov. 29, 2003, at Howard Chapel A.M.E. Church of New Zion. Mrs. Elmore, 48, died Mon., Nov. 24, 2003, at the Williamsburg Regional Hospital in Kingstree. She was born May 5, 1955, in Florence, a daughter of John Wilson, Sr., and Dinah Wilson. She received her formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was a member of Community Temple Church of Cades. She was employed for many years by Hebron Textile and Apparel. Survivors are: her husband, Michael Elmore of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Jennifer Brand and Regina Elmore, both of Kingstree; two sons, Jimmy of Pamplico; and Brad Elmore of Kingstree; three sisters, Mrs. Jeanette Evans of Cades; Mrs. Linda Simmons of Augusta, Georgia; and Mary Cooper of Timmonsville; four brothers, Wes-ley Wilson of Kingstree; Eugene Wilson of Olanta; Sammy Wilson of Cades; and John D. Wilson, Jr., of Kingstree; five grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren.
ISADORE McCLARY -- Funeral services for Isadore McClary, conducted by Elder Dr. Linwood Cooper, were held Tuesday, December 2, 2003, at W.N. Redmond Memorial Chapel. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Kingstree Cemetery. Mr. McClary was born April 14, 1942, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Joseph McClary and Jettie Madison McClary. He received his formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County. Survivors are: four sisters, Cornelius Bradley of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Mrs. Catherine Fairley of Newark, New Jersey; Mrs. Shirley McClary of Salters; and Mrs. Vernie McClam of Scranton.
ROSE WEINBERG -- Mrs. Rose Heiden Weinberg, 95, formerly of Lake City and Florence, died Sat., Nov. 29, 2003, in Pembroke Pines, Florida. Graveside funeral services were held Tues., Dec. 2, 2003, in Beth Or Cemetery in Kingstree, with Rabbi Marc Kline presiding. Williamsburg Funeral Home of Kingstree was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Weinberg was born in Poland, a daughter of the late Nathan Louis and Ethel Schreiber Drucker and came to this country as a child. Before her retirement, Mrs. Weinberg owned two ladies apparel shops in Lake City and Kingstree, known as the Glamour Corner. She was active in Temple Beth Or in Kingstree and President of the Sisterhood. She was also an active member of Temple Beth Israel in Florence and an internationally known flower judge. Mrs. Weinberg was a Worthy Matron of the Lake City chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and went on to become the youngest Worthy Grand Matron of the state of South Carolina. She was first married for over 55 years to the late Dr. Jule Jay Heiden and is survived from that marriage by two sons, Dr. H. Eric Heiden and Dr. Laurence N. Heiden, both of Florence; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her second husband, Mort Weinberg of Pembroke Pines, Florida; two step-children, Ginger Spiro and Michael Weinberg, three step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Temple Beth Or, % Dr. Louis Drucker, 1200 N. Longstreet St., Kingstree, SC 29556.
ALBERTA BROWN -- Mrs. Alberta Owens "Mama B" Brown, 85, widow of Ralph Brown, died Mon., Nov. 24, 2003, in a Kingstree hospital. Funeral services were held Wed., Nov. 26, 2003, at the Central Presbyterian Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at McClary Cemetery. Mrs. Brown was born in the Indiantown community of Williamsburg County, a daughter of John A. and Nora Patrick Owens. She was a graduate of Indiantown High School and McLeod Nursing School. Mrs. Brown was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, where she was active in the Women in the Church. She was the owner and operator of Brown's Daycare Center. Survivors are: her children, Danny Brown, Ronnie Brown, Hazel Brown and Kenny Brown, all of Kingstree; and Lorraine Carson of Lexington; five sisters, Vera O. Epps of Indiantown; Dorothy Thompson of Hemingway; Katherine Hanna of Lake City; Gene Tisdale of Kingstree; and Gayle Charles of Columbia; three brothers, Phillip Owens of Lake City, Roger Owens of Kingstree; and George Harold Owens of Tennessee; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The family asks that memorials be made to the Mission Fund at Central Presbyterian Church.
DeBELL McCLARY -- Funeral services for Mrs. DeBell Wilson McClary, conducted by the Rev. Willie Bryant and the Rev. Wilkie Samuels, were held Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Union Baptist Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Rocky Ford Cemetery. Mrs. McClary, 87, died Sat., Nov. 22, 2003, at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was born May 9, 1916, to the late Joe and Adeline Wilson in Salters. She received her formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County. For years she worked as a presser for a clothing manufacturer until she was retired. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Philadelphia. Survivors are: three children, Ernest, Adeline and Joe; one sister, Lottie Mae; one brother, Moise, six grandchildren; one great-grandson; two adopted grandchildren; and four life-long friends, Earthilene, Amanda, Letha and Ida.
CAPTAIN CHESTER McFADDEN -- Funeral services for Captain Chester Levern McFadden, conducted by the Rev. Oliver Davis, were held Tuesday, December 2, 2003, at the Believers Holiness Convention Center in Coward. Burial, directed by Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Rest Lawn Memorial Park in Lake City. Capt. McFadden, 48, died Thursday, November 27, 2003, at the McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence after an illness. He was born March 21, 1955, in Williamsburg County, a son of Felix and Annie Bell McFadden. He attended the public schools of Florence County and graduated from South Carolina State University. He was a member of Oak Grove A.M.E. Church. Captain McFadden worked for a number of years at the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and the Elks. Survivors, in addition to his parents of Lake City, include: his wife, Mrs. Mable P. McFadden of the home, one son, Askia M. McFadden of Ridgland; two daughters, Mrs. Laquacious J. McFadden Hanna of New Carrington, Maryland and Ms. Marie Adams of Knoxville, Tennessee; his biological mother, Mrs. Alma Fulton; a grandmother-in-law, Mrs. Elise Peterson of Lake City; and one grandson, Master Akiin McFadden of Scranton.
EDWARD GAUSE, SR. -- Edward Leroy Gause, Sr., 79, died Thurs., Dec. 18, 2003, at his residence. Funeral services were held Sat., Dec. 20, 2003, at Kingstree Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at the church cemetery. Mr. Gause was born in Kingstree, a son of the late Redden O. Gause and Florence Carraway Gause. He attended Kingstree schools and retired in 1976 as an officer with the Charleston City Police Department. Mr. Gause was a Mason, a member of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Association and attended Kingstree Pentecostal Holiness Church. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Eunice Mae Fennell Gause of Kingstree; one son, Edward Leroy Gause, Jr., of Sumter; one daughter, Sharon Elaine G. Hanna of Kingstree; two brothers, Freddie Gause and Albert Gause, both of Kingstree; two sisters, Modell Reed of Sumter; and Edeafel Ryan of Kingstree; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Kingstree Pentecostal Holiness Church or the American Lung Association.
