Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com ANNIE DUKE -- Annie Ruth Feagin Duke, 64, widow of James Carnell Duke, died Mon., Dec. 15, 2003, at her residence. Funeral services, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, were held Wed., Dec. 17, 2003, at Midway Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Mrs. Duke was born in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Willie and Essie Mae Rogers Feagin. She was a retired employee of A.B. Dick Co., and attended the Pentecostal Holiness Church. Survivors are: two daughters, Debra Floyd of Lake City; and Susan Dennis of New Zion; one son, William David Floyd of Turbeville; two brothers, Alva Feagin and Leon Feagin, both of Lake City; two sisters, Geneva Bryant of Lake City; and Wilhelmina Lee of Darlington; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
JULIA GIST -- Funeral services for Julia Gertrude Chatman Gist, conducted by the Rev. Albert J. Rose, Jr., were held on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at the St. James Missionary Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed in the churchyard cemetery. Mrs. Gist, 76, widow of Kelly Gist, Sr., was born in Greeleyville on August 9, 1927, a daughter of the late Oscar Chatman, Sr., and the late Alma Virginia Montgomery Chatman. She was educated in and graduated from the public schools of Williamsburg County and retired as a cafeteria cook in the public schools. Survivors include: one son, Robert Jewell Gist of Atlanta, Georgia; two daughters, Mrs. Deborah Lee Mitchell and Ms. Wanda Gist, both of Raleigh, North Carolina; five sisters, Mrs. Lois Hill of Jacksonville, Florida; Mrs. Martha King of Manning; Mrs. Okla Kenely of Sumter; Mrs. Anna Lee Woods and Mrs. Evelyn Richardson, both of Greeleyville; five brothers, James Chatman, Oscar Chatman, Jr., and Dr. Emmanuel Chatman, all of Washington, DC; Clyde Chatman and Alex Chatman, both of Greeleyville; and six grandchildren.
JAMES DRIFFIN -- Funeral services for James "Jimmy" Driffin, conducted by the Rev. Phillip Boyd, were held at St. John Missionary Baptist Church. Burial directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed in the churchyard cemetery. Mr. Driffin, 76, was born May 27, 1927, a son of the late Thomas Driffin and Rosa Brown Driffin in Greeleyville. He received his education in the public schools of Williamsburg County and was employed as a construction worker. Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Willie Mae Giles Driffin of Kingstree; one son, Greg Driffin of Virginia Beach, Virginia; one daughter, Mrs. Alberta Witherspoon of New Haven, Connecticut; three brothers, Ben Albert Driffin and Roosevelt Driffin, both of New Haven, Connecticut; and Cellus Driffin of Rochester, New York; five sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Sherman of New Haven, Connecticut; Ms. Cleola D. Cunningham, Mrs. Hazel D. Montgomery, Mrs. Margaret D. Burgess and Ms. Mary Turner, all of Greeleyville; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
HAROLD GRAHAM -- Harold Andrew Graham, 57, died Thurs., Dec. 18, 2003, in the Tuomey Hospital in Sumter. Funeral services were held Sun., Dec. 21, 2003, at Brockington Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, directed by Brockington Funeral Home, followed at High Hill Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Graham was born in Kingstree, a son of the late Charlie L. and Jackie Prosser Graham. He was employed by Georgia Pacific Resin, Russellville, and a member of Broad Swamp Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Survivors are: his wife, Diane Atkinson Graham of Cades; two daughters, Lisa G. Young and Rebecca G. Wade, both of Kingstree; one son, Andrew Graham of Kingstree; three brothers, Joseph Graham, Wayne Graham and Sidney Graham, all of Cades; one sister, Marilyn Morris of Kingstree; and four grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Broad Swamp Pentecostal Holiness Church Building Fund, 820 Broad Swamp Road, Kingstree, South Carolina 29556.
OLLIE SINGLETARY -- Funeral services for Mrs. Ollie Bryant Singletary, conducted by the Rev. Willie Bryant, will be held Fri., Dec. 26, 2003, at Union Baptist Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Rocky Ford Cemetery. Mrs. Singletary, 76, died Sat., Dec. 20, 2003, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. She was born April 25, 1927, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Jimmy and Christine Washington Bryant. She attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was a member of Union Baptist Church, where she sang in the senior choir. She was married to the late Roy Singletary. Survivors are: three sons, Abraham Singletary of Thomasville, North Carolina; Arthur Singletary of High Point, North Carolina; and Leroy Singletary of Brooklyn, New York; two daughters, Mrs. Frances McClary and Mrs. Margaret Lawson, both of Thomasville, North Carolina; one sister, Pastor Eva Mae Bryant of Brooklyn, New York; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
LILA M. ALSTON -- Funeral services for Ms. Lila Mae Alston, conducted by Elder Dr. Linwood Cooper, were held Sat., Dec. 13, 2003, in the chapel of Pressleyıs Funeral Home. Interment, directed by Pressley's Funeral Home, followed in the Kingstree Cemetery. Ms. Alston died Sat., Dec. 6, 2003, at Kingstree Nursing Facility. She was born Aug. 19, 1925, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Willie Floyd Alston and Viola S. Alston. She was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was the widow of Sam L. Chung. Survivors include: nieces Ann Alston, Margaret McBride and Zelda Alston Fulton, all of Kingstree; Susanne Varn of Southern Pines, North Carolina; and Lois Alston of Charleston; nephews Laurie W. Alston, Clarence Washington, Jr., and Dodson Alston, all of Kingstree; and Bruce Dansby of Myrtle Beach. LOUIS MOUZON Funeral services for Louis Mouzon, conducted by the Rev. Frank B. James, were held Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at St. Mary A.M.E. Church Cemetery. Mr. Mouzon died Sat., Dec. 6, 2003, at the Georgetown Memorial Hospital in Georgetown. He was born Sept. 6, 1933, in Salters, a son of the late Oddie "Peter" and Mary "Pet" Thompson Mouzon. He attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the United Methodist Men. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Gussie B. Mouzon of the home; three daughters, Dorothy Mouzon and Mrs. Louise Ball, both of Clearwater, Florida; and Mrs. Janice White of Wilmington, North Carolina; two sons, Joe Louis Mouzon of Clearwater, Florida; and Albert Frazier of Columbia; two step-children, Mrs. Carol Shaw of Kingstree; and Tracy Brown of Salters; four sisters, Mrs. Margaret Ross of Trio; Mrs. Minnie Gamble of Salters; Mrs. Pearl Bradley and Mrs. Mary Frances Goss, both of Clearwater, Florida; 20 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
HENRY COOPER -- Funeral services for Henry R. Cooper, conducted by the Rev. Robert Poinsett, were held Wed., Dec. 24, 2003, at Hickory Hill Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Barr Cemetery. Mr. Cooper, 88, widower of Cora Lee Cooper, died Sat., Dec. 20, 2003, in Newark, New Jersey. He was born May 8, 1915, a son of the late Richard and Georigann Cooper. He received his formal education in Williamsburg County and was formerly employed as a casket manufacturer in New Jersey. Survivors include: one daughter, Brenda Cooper of Newark, New Jersey; one sister, Sadie C. Pasley of Hemingway; and one grandson.
LINTON WILSON -- Funeral services for Linton Wilson, conducted by the Rev. Malachi Gibson, were held Fri., Dec. 26, 2003, at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in Greeleyville. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Cowhead Cemetery. Mr. Wilson, 87, died Sun., Dec. 21, 2003. He was born Nov. 23, 1916, a son of the late Eddie Wilson and Fozzie Patterson Wilson. He attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. Mr. Wilson was a member of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church, where he served on the Steward and Trustee Board. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Carrie M. Wilson of Kingstree; one son, Robert Wilson of Kingstree; two daughters, Mrs. Mary W. Council of Boston, Massachusetts; and Mrs. Anna Lee Green of Salters; three grandchildren he reared as his own, Mrs. Lorraine Wilson and Tiliala Michelle Wilson, both of Kingstree; and Robert Wilson, Jr. of Boston, Massachusetts; three additional grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
DAISY BROWN -- Funeral services for Mrs. Daisy Bradley Brown, conducted by Elder Dr. Linwood Cooper, were held Mon., Dec. 29, 2003, at William N. Redmond Memorial Chapel in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Kingstree Cemetery. Mrs. Brown, 79, died Thurs., Dec. 25, 2003, at Carolinas Hospital System-Florence. She was born April 7, 1924, in Hemingway, a daughter of the late Marvin and Annie Bradley. She received her formal education in the public schools of South Carolina. She was married to the late John Brown, Sr. Surviving is one son, John Brown, Jr.
LILLIE BURGESS -- Funeral services for Mrs. Lillie Ann Mitchum Burgess, conducted by Bishop Roosevelt Fulton, were held Sat., Dec. 20, 2003, at Evangelistic Temple Way of the Cross Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Kingstree Cemetery. Mrs. Burgess died Dec. 14, 2003, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning. She was born Oct. 11, 1944, in Kingstree, a daughter of the late Frank and Emma Mitchum. She graduated from Tomlinson High School in 1962. Later she moved to New York City, where she lived and worked for 30 years. She was a member of New Jerusalem Holiness Church. She was married to the late Johnnie Burgess. Survivors are: two children, Lowa'nder D. Henry of Kingstree; and Rodney Burgess of Kingstree; four sisters, May Lee Robinson of Andrews; Neritha Fulton and Lillie Ruth Graham, both of Kingstree; and Carnelle Bradley of Orange, New Jersey; five brothers, Frank Mitchum, Jr., Norman Mitchum, Leroy Mitchum, Leon Mitchum and Truman Mitchum, all of Kingstree; and three grandchildren.
