MONE -- Funeral services for Ryan Prescott Mone were held Saturday, January 3, 1998, at the West Tisbury Congregational Church in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, conducted by Rev. James C. Martin. Burial followed at the Vineyard Haven Cemetery. Mr. Mone, 17, died January 1, 1998, at the Martha's Vineyard Hospital following a car accident. He was born March 26, 1980, in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, a son of Gayle G. and Bob Mone. Survivors, in addition to his parents, are: one brother, Jonathan S. Mone of Middlebury College, Vermont; his maternal grandparents, Mrs. Patricia B. Gilman of Kingstree; and Arthur P. Gilman of Litchfield Beach, S.C.; and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mary Mone of Mashpee, MA.

WHITLOCK -- Mrs. Vivien K. Whitlock, 82, widow of Edward A. Whitlock, died Wednesday, January 7, 1998, in a Florence hospital. A memorial service was held Friday, January 9, 1998, in the Brockington Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Whitlock was born in Florence County, a daughter of the late Charles Greer King and Frances Kennedy King. She was a member of the Lake City First Baptist Church, the Lake City Garden Club and the D.M.A. Survivors are: four sons, Richard Whitlock and Tony Whitlock, both of Salt Lake City, Utah; Ted Whitlock of Concord, North Carolina and Rhett Whitlock of Manassas, Virginia; and one brother, Clyde King of Cades.

MCCLARY -- Funeral services for Robert McClary, Sr. were held Friday, January 9, 1998, at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Greeleyville, conducted by Rev. Bonus Miller. Burial followed in the churchyard cemetery directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mr. McClary, 89, died Sunday, January 4, 1998, at his residence in Greeleyville. He was born December 18, 1908, in Williamsburg County, the son of the late James and Sennie Mack McClary. He retired after 30 years as a crankhand with the railroad. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Cleo S. McClary of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Lena M. Chandler of Winston-Salem, N.C.; Ollie Lundy and Mrs. Betty Lewis, both of Manhattan, N.Y.; and two sons, Robert McClary, Jr. of Bronx, N.Y.; and Erman McClary of Manhattan, N.Y.

MONTGOMERY -- Funeral services for Mrs. Catherine Montgomery were held Thursday, January 8, 1998, at St. James Baptist Church in Greeleyville, conducted by Reverend Albert Rose. Burial followed at St. James Baptist Church Cemetery in Greeleyville directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Montgomery, 84, died Saturday, January 3, 1998, at Carolinas Hospital System- Florence. She was born June 20, 1913, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late McNeil Green and Virginia Chatman Green. She was a member of St. James Baptist Church and a former member of the choir.

MOSES -- Funeral services for William Marshall Moses, Sr., 73, of Lexington, were held Friday, December 26, 1997, at St. Stephens Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. Larry Long. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Mr. Moses died Tuesday, December 23, 1997. Born in Clover, he was the son of the late Delbert and Violet Faris Moses. He served in the U.S. Navy from August 1942 to December 1945. He received his BA in education and master of education degrees from the University of South Carolina and earned 30 semester hours of graduate credit over a period of years. He began teaching in Lexington School District One in February 1950. He taught social studies at Lexington High School, served as advisor of "The Catıs Paw" and directed the local American Legion Oratorical contest from the mid-1950s to 1968. He served as boys' counselor from 1962 through 1968. He was principal of Lexington Intermediate School from 1969 to 1972, principal of Lexington High School from 1972 to 1974 and District Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations from 1975 to 1984. He was a member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church and was a former member and vice-chairman of the church council. Survivors are: his wife, Ann Mims Moses of Lexington; and one son, Dr. William Marshall Moses, Jr. of Macon, Ga.; and two sisters, Louise Horton of Fairfax, S.C.; and Isabelle Moses of Lexington.

JOE -- Funeral services for Elijah Joe were held Tuesday, January 13, 1998, at Wilson United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. James Cannion. Burial followed at Big Spring Cemetery in Greeleyville directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Joe, 73, died January 8, 1998, at Lake Moultrie Nursing Facility in St. Stephen. He was born June 24, 1924, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Lee and Lorraine Keels Joe. He was a member of Wilson United Methodist Church. Survivors are: six brothers, James Joe, John B. Joe and Albert Davis, all of Greeleyville; Benjamin Joe of Lancaster, Pa.; Cornelius Joe of Brooksville; and Nathaniel Joe of Patterson, N.J.; and five sisters, Louise Johnson of Greeleyville; Mrs. Mary McFadden of Philadelphia, Pa.; Mrs. Bobbie Jean Collins of Patterson, N.J.; Celie Murray of Troy, N.Y.; and Mrs. Virgaree Mitchell of Bronx, N.Y.

BARRINEAU -- Mrs. Mary Agnes Coward Barrineau, 85, died Friday, January 16, 1998, in a Florence hospital. Funeral services for Mrs. Barrineau were held Sunday, January 18, 1998, at Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Williamsburg Cemetery directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mrs. Barrineau was born in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Joseph Warren and Janie McCrea Shaw Coward. She was a member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. Survivors are: her husband, Benton Barrineau of Kingstree; and one daughter, Roberta B. Suman of Monroe, N.C.

GRAY -- Mrs. Gail Brown Gray, 53, wife of Ralph Edward Gray, Jr., died Friday, January 16, 1998, in a Florence hospital. Funeral services were held Sunday, January 18, 1998, in the Sandy Bay Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial followed in Kingstree Memorial Gardens directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mrs. Gray was born in Kingstree, a daughter of the late Norwood and Jennie Lee McClary Brown. She was a graduate of Kingstree High School and was a secretary in the Williamsburg County Public Schools District Office. Mrs. Gray was a member of Sandy Bay Pentecostal Holiness Church and was a member of the Omar Joker Jokerettes. Surviving, in addition to her husband of Lake City, are: one son, Ralph Edward Gray, III, of Kingstree; one daughter, Suzanne G. Thaxton of Lake City; one sister, Jenny McKenzie of Kingstree; and one brother, S. Newell Brown of Wilmington, N.C.

BROWN -- Mrs. Joan K. Brown, 54, of Evans, died Monday, November 24, 1997, at her residence. A memorial service was held Wednesday, November 26, 1997, at Platt's Funeral Home, Belair Road, conducted by Rev. Robert Fain. Graveside services for Mrs. Brown were held Thursday, November 27, 1997, at Cedar Swamp United Methodist Church Cemetery in Kingstree. Mrs. Brown, a native of Georgetown, was a nurse at the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home. She was a graduate of Kingstree High School and Tuomey Nursing School in Sumter. Survivors are: her husband, Dr. Grayson Brown, three sons, Leon Grayson Brown, Jr. and Walter Todd Brown, both of Evans; and Michael Craig Brown of Newnan; and three sisters, Nancy Epps and Peggy Haddock, both of Kingstree and Jackie Taylor of Johnsonville.

HANNAH -- Funeral services for Kenneth "Skillet" Bernard Hannah were held Friday, January 23, 1998, at Wilson Chapel First Missionary Baptist Church in Kingstree, conducted by Rev. Auddie Tisdale and Rev. Gilbert E. Wilson. Burial followed in the churchyard cemetery directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mr. Hannah, 33, died Friday, January 16, 1998, in Bishopville, S.C. after injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born April 20, 1965, in Williamsburg County, a son of Robbie Hannah and the late Carrien Gamble Hannah. He was a 1985 graduate of Kingstree Senior High School. He also attended Williamsburg Technical College where he studied welding. He was employed with Santee Print of Sumter. He was a member of Wilson Chapel First Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors, in addition to his father of Kingstree, are: his wife, Debbie M. Hannah of Lake City; one daughter, Monique Major of Kingstree; five brothers, Elder Robert Hannah of Philadelphia, Pa.; Billy Hannah of San Antonio, TX; Nathaniel Hannah of Lake City; Larry Hannah of Kingstree; and John Hannah of Greeleyville; seven sisters, Bessie Green of Warminister, Pa.; Sarah Pickney of Philadelphia, Pa.; Mrs. Gail McKnight of Springfield, Ma.; Mrs. Juanita Wilson of Florence; Mrs. Betty Brown and Mrs. Mary Cooper, both of Columbia; and Pamela Hannah of Kingstree; four step-children, Keisha Graham, Terrel Graham, Alford Graham and Victoria McCrea, all of Lake City; and his father- and mother-in-law, Cleotus and Sarah Bradley of Lake City.
