Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com KATHERINE HANNA -- Katherine Owens Hanna, 87, widow of William D. Hanna, Jr., died Wed., Dec. 24, 2003, in a Florence hospital. Graveside funeral services, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, were held Fri., Dec. 26, 2003, in Williamsburg Cemetery. Mrs. Hanna was born at Indiantown, a daughter of the late John A. Owens and Nora Patrick Owens. She was a graduate of Indiantown High School and was a retired lab technician, having worked at Kelley Memorial Hospital and Williamsburg Regional Hospital. Mrs. Hanna was also a former teacher's aide in the Williamsburg County school system and was a member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, where she taught a ladies Bible class. Survivors are: four sisters, Vera O. Epps of Indiantown; Dorothy O. Thompson of Hemingway; Gene O. Tisdale of Kingstree; and Gayle O. Charles of Columbia; three brothers, Phillip Owens of Lake City; Rogers Owens of Kingstree; and George Harold Owens of Tennessee. Memorials may be made to Williamsburg Presbyterian Church.
BOB MOORE -- Funeral services for Bob Cummings Moore, conducted by the Rev. Samuel B. Cooper, were held Sat., Sept. 20, 2003, at Jerusalem United Methodist Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at the churchyard cemetery. Mr. Moore died Sun., Sept. 14, 2003. He was born March 23, 1970, a son of Delaine Moore and the late Robert Cummings. He was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County and was a graduate of the class of 1988 of Williamsburg-Blakely High School. He was employed by Colonial Rubber for a number of years. He was later employed by Caledonia Tees of Andrews as a machine operator. He had a love for baseball and was a member of the Trio Hurricanes for a number of years. Survivors, in addition to his mother of Salters, are: his wife, LouWanda Moore of Andrews; his children, Rafael Moore of Andrews; Raneesha Moore of Charlotte, North Carolina; Nabo-bishia Burroughs of Andrews; his step-children, David McGill and Levi Nettles, both of Andrews; one sister, Betty Jo Moore of California; his adopted sister and brother, Bernetta and Craig Gamble of Salters; his father and mother-in-law, David and Margaree Nettles of Salters; two that were like brothers, Charles Wright and Ricky Franklin; and a special friend reared like a sister, Valerie Reid of Charlotte, North Carolina.
GUSSIE McCULLOUGH -- Funeral services for Mrs. Gussie Mae Johnson McCullough, conducted by the Rev. Frank James and the Rev. Annie Scott, were held Sat., Sept. 27, 2003, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Bethel United Methodist Churchyard Cemetery. Mrs. McCullough died Mon., Sept. 22, 2003, at Williamsburg Regional Hospital. She was born April 30, 1946, in Charleston, a daughter of the late Elijah and Gussie Johnson. She received her education in the New York City public school system. She was a member of the Color Guard, also known as the Blue Jackets, in the Marine Academy. She graduated from Sarah J. Hale High School in 1961. She was an outstanding seamstress. Survivors are: her husband, Charles McCullough of Kingstree; two daughters, Natisha Walker and Shamella Burroughs, both of Kingstree; two sisters, Azilee Johnson and Doristine Jones, both of Brooklyn, New York; and four grandchildren.
ELVIN TOMLINSON -- Elvin Bryan "Tiny" Tomlinson, 34, died Tues., Sept. 30, 2003, from injuries he received in an accident. Funeral services were held Fri., Oct. 3, 2003, at the Brockington Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, directed Brockington Funeral Home, followed at the Lake City Memorial Park. Mr. Tomlinson was born in Florence County, a son of Harry Gray Harper and Shirley Tomlinson. He was a police officer for the Town of Scranton. He was also a member of Hebron United Methodist Church. Survivors, in addition to his mother of Lake City, are: three sons, Bryan Joshua Tomlinson of Kingstree; Nicholas Tomlinson of Johnsonville; and Matthew Daniel Tomlinson of Bennettsville.
LOUISE DURANT -- Funeral services for Mrs. Louise Green Durant, conducted by the Rev. James Cannion, were held Saturday, October 4, 2003, at St. John United Methodist Church in Lynchburg. Burial, directed by Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home, followed in the St. John United Methodist church Cemetery. Mrs. Durant, 99, widow of John Andrew Durant, died Sunday, September 28, 2003, at her residence in Lake City. She was born January 27, 1904, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Charlie, Sr., and Maggie Mazyck Green. She attended the public schools of Williamsburg County and was a member of St. John United Methodist Church. Survivors include: two sons, Isaac Durant of Baltimore, Maryland and E.C. Durant of Columbia; three daughters, Mrs. Rebecca Allen of Coward; Mrs. Lillie B. Graham of the home; and Mrs. Bobbie Jean Waiters of Baltimore, Maryland; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
ERNEST HALL -- Funeral services for Ernest "Fluttie" Hall, conducted by the Rev. Benjamin Bryant, were held Sat., Oct. 4, 2003, at Olive Grove Baptist Church in Coward. Burial, directed by Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home, followed in Sunset Memory Garden in Effingham. Mr. Hall, 65, died Sun., Sept. 28, 2003, at Carolinas Hospital System-Florence. He was born Feb. 24, 1938, in Coward, a son of the late Luther Hall, Sr., and Blanche Woods Hall. . He attended the public schools of Florence County and was a member of Olive Grove Baptist Church. He retired from Socur Steel and was the owner of House of Tires in Olanta. Survivors include: his wife, Lucille Hall of the home; five sons, Ernest Hall of Pamplico; Randy Hall, Robert Hall, Oday Williams and Donnie Wise, all of Florence; three daughters, Lucinda Daly of Bishopville; Ginn Chaudry and Katherine Mitchell, both of Florence; two sisters, Hazel McRay and Jean Muldrow, both of Coward; four brothers, Charles Hall of Lake city; Luther Hall, Jr., Warren Hall and Keith Ham, all of Florence; and 21 grandchildren, seven of whom he reared.
BRENDA GREEN -- Funeral services for Brenda Lee Green, conducted by Dr. Herman Gibson, were held Sat., Oct. 4, 2003, at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at the churchyard cemetery. Ms. Green, 39, died Mon., Sept. 29, 2003, at her residence in Kingstree. She was born Feb. 15, 1964, a daughter of Mrs. Mary McClary Green and the late Nathaniel Skeet Green. She attended the public schools of Williams-burg County and was a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors, in addition to her mother of Kingstree, are: two brothers, Herman Green of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; and Michael Green of Santee; and one sister, Mrs. Patricia Green of Kingstree.
WALTER BURKETT -- Walter Levi Burkett, 86, died Thurs., Oct. 2, 2003, in a Florence hospital. Funeral services were held Sun., Oct. 5, 2003, at Broad Swamp Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at the church cemetery. Mr. Burkett was born in Williamsburg County, a son of John Henry and Rosa Driggers Burkett. He was educated in the Williamsburg County schools and was retired from NAPA Auto Parts. Mr. Burkett was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the VFW and Kingstree Moose Lodge. He was a member of Broad Swamp Pentecostal Holiness Church. Survivors include: one son, Raymond Burkett of Florence; one sister, Betty Burkett of Ladson; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
GEORGE COOPER -- George Edwin Cooper, 65, died Saturday, October 11, 2003, at his residence. Funeral services were held Monday, October 13, 2003, at Union Presbyterian Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at the church cemetery. Mr. Cooper was born December 5, 1937, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late William Robert and Dulcie Lifrage Cooper. He was the former owner of Cooper's County Store in Salters. Mr. Cooper was a member of Union Presbyterian Church, where he was a deacon. Survivors are: his wife, Adalyn Burrows Cooper of Kingstree; one daughter, Kelley Louise Cooper of Kingstree; one brother, William Robert Cooper, Jr., of Lane; one sister, Mary Bell Geddings of Lane; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Tidelands Community Hospice or to the Union Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund.
CORNELIA GOODMAN -- Mrs. Cornelia Green Goodman, a retiree, 69, died Monday, October 6, 2003, at the Carolinas Hospital System-Florence. Funeral services for Mrs. Goodman, conducted by Elder William Boyd, were held October 2003, at Emwell Freewill Baptist Church in Olanta. Burial, directed by Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home, followed at St. Mark A.M.E. Church Cemetery. Mrs. Goodman was born March 23, 1934, in Sumter County, a daughter of the late Roy Green and Vernether Kirby Green. She received her formal education in the public schools of Florence County. While living in Paterson, New Jersey, she joined the Gilmore Memorial Church and was a member of the Bible Study Organiza-tion, Usher Board, Nursešs Aide and the Helping Hand Club. Mrs. Goodman was employed for a number of years at Hawthorne Rubber Company in Hawthorne, New Jersey. She also worked as a Home Health Aide. Survivors are: her husband, Elijah Goodman of the home; one son, Chester Goodman of Paterson, New Jersey; three daughters, Mrs. Vernetha Fonville of Paterson, New Jersey; Mrs. Mary Ann Franklin of Olanta; and Mrs. Diane Brewington of Florence; one sister, Mrs. Mary Frances Muldrow of Baltimore, Maryland; five brothers, Frankie Green of Lynchburg; Thomas Green of Paterson, New Jersey; Edward Muldrow of Florence; Roy Green and Eddie Green, both of Olanta; ten grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
