Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com ELIJAH COOPER -- Funeral services for Elijah Hugh Cooper, conducted by the Rev. J. P. Thomas, were held Fri., Dec. 5, 2003, at Mt. Seal United Methodist Church in Hemingway. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Willie Cooper Cemetery. Mr. Cooper, 36, died Sun., Nov. 30, 2003, at Carolinas Hospital System-Florence. He was born April 10, 1967, in Kingstree, a son of the late Hugh Cooper and Carrie Bell Williams Cooper. He graduated from Kingstree Senior High School in 1985 and also attended Williamsburg Technical College. He was formerly employed by Milliken, Colonial Rubber and Firestone. He was currently employed as a forklift operator at Nan-Ya Plastics Corp. of America, Inc., of Lake City. Survivors are: one sister, Mrs. Pauline Fulton of Salters; and two nieces, Breshia and Alicia Fulton, both of Salters.
LOUIS SWETLITZ -- Louis Swetlitz, 89, formerly of Kingstree, died Sun., Nov. 30, 2003, at Sun Bridge Care and Rehabilitation. Graveside funeral services for Mr. Swetlitz, conducted by Rabbi Norry, were held Dec. 2, 2003, at Crest Lawn Cemetery in Atlanta. Conner-Westbury Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Swetlitz was born Aug. 14, 1914, in Pennsylvania, a son of the late George and Mary Swetlitz. He was the husband of the late Ida Goldstein Swetlitz and was retired from Rich's Department Store at Lenox. He was a member of the Congregation Sherith Israel. Mr. Swetlitz was a veteran of the United States Navy. Survivors are: two daughters, Marsha Sollenberger of Barnesville; and Myra Lee; two granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren.
EASTER PARSON -- Funeral services for Mrs. Easter Moore Parson, conducted by the Rev. Oneal Miller, were held Fri., Dec. 5, 2003, at Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Cowhead Cemetery. Mrs. Parson died Thurs., Nov. 27, 2003, at Harlem Hospital. She was born in Greeleyville, a daughter of the late Ned and Haley Moore. She attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was a member of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in Greeleyville. She attended Second Cannan Baptist Church and Gospel Missionary Baptist Church in New York City, New York. Survivors are: two daughters, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Newton and Mrs. Ethel Lee Moore, both of New York City, New York; one sister, Mrs. Marvelle Chandler of New York; nine grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 28 great-great-grandchildren.
BEAUFORT ROGERS -- Funeral services for Beaufort Rogers were held Sat., Dec. 6, 2003, at Jerusalem A.M.E. Church in Hemingway. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at the churchyard cemetery. Mr. Rogers, 85, died Mon., Dec. 1, 2003, at his residence in Hemingway. He was born May 30, 1918, a son of the late Rev. Jeff W. Self and Maybell Louis Self. He attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was formerly employed as a furniture maker in Baltimore, Maryland. Mr. Rogers joined and attended Village Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland. Survivors are: one grandson, Derrick, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
ROY RODGERS -- Roy Mason Rodgers, 87, died Fri., Dec. 5, 2003, in a private-care facility. Funeral services for Mr. Rodgers were held Sun., Dec. 7, 2003, at Brockington Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, directed by Brockington Funeral Home, followed at Lake City Memorial Park. Mr. Rodgers was born in Lucknow, South Carolina, a son of the late John O. and Abbie McAlister Rodgers. He was a retired rural mail carrier and retired funeral director with the Brockington Funeral Home for over 51 years. He was a member of the Lake City United Methodist Church, retired member of the Lake City Fire Department, charter board member of Lake City Rural Fire Department and a member of the South Lynches Fire Depart-ment. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving in the European Theater and was married to the late Katherine Rikard Rodgers. Survivors are: one son, Roy M. Rodgers, Jr. of Lake City; one daughter, Ginger R. Matthews of Lake City; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
FRED McFADDIN, SR. -- Fred B. McFaddin, Sr., 78, died Thurs., Dec. 4, 2003, at his residence. Funeral services for Mr. McFaddin were held Sat., Dec. 6, 2003, at the Kingstree Second Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at the church cemetery. Mr. McFaddin was born in Florence County, a son of the late Hassel and Rosa Lillian Thomas McFaddin. He attended Turbeville schools and was retired from Baxter Labs as a boiler operator. Mr. McFaddin was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of the American Legion and a member of Kingstree Second Baptist Church. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Juanita Lynch McFaddin of Kingstree; three sons, Fred B. McFaddin, Jr. of Atlanta; Wade McFaddin of Huntsville, Alabama; and Danny McFaddin of Kingstree; two brothers, Byron McFaddin of New Zion; and Ben McFaddin of Columbia; one sister, Mrs. Carrie Thigpen of Cades; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Kingstree Second Baptist Church or Tidelands Hospice.
DWIGHT WILLIAMS -- Funeral services for Davis Dwight Williams, conducted by the Rev. Lee C. Bines, the Rev. John Williams and the Rev. Ella Busby, were held Wed., Nov. 26, 2003, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Big Spring Cemetery in Greeleyville. Mr. Williams died Nov. 22, 2003. He was born Feb. 20, 1954, in Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, a son of the late John and Sarah Williams. He received his formal education and graduated from C.E. Murray High School, class of 1973. Shortly after, he enlisted in the United States Army in 1973 and was honorably discharged. In 1989, he enlisted in the South Carolina National Guard 1052nd Unit and was called to serve in the Persian Gulf War in 1991. Mr. Williams began his law enforcement career with the Williamsburg County Sheriff¹s Office in 1975 as a dispatcher. His accomplishments at the Sheriff¹s Department include: 1977 graduate of the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy and assuming the position of Deputy Sheriff; 1987, promoted to shift supervisor at the rank of sergeant; 1996, promoted to the rank of investigator, where his capabilities as an exceptional law enforcement officer began to surface and as a result of his outstanding work as an investigator, he was then promoted to the position of lieutenant over the patrol and civil division; February 15, 1999, promoted to serve as chief deputy. The chief deputy ranks second in command at the Sheriff¹s Office. He was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church. Survivors are: his wife, Gloria Franklin Williams; four daughters, Precious Williams of the home; Sgt. Yvonne Shakir of Fayetteville, North Carolina; Norvella Fulwood and Marcella Ragin, both of Kingstree; three sons, Dwight Malik Williams of the home; Ronnie Franklin of Kingstree; and Sean McCrea of New York; three sisters, Yvonne McDonald and Terresa Johnson, both of Charlotte, North Carolina; and Shelia Myles of Rock Hill; three brothers, the Rev. John Williams of Pineville; Jerome Williams and Timothy Williams, both of Charlotte, North Carolina; his father-in-law, Milton Franklin of Kingstree; and seven grandchildren.
DAISY McELVEEN -- Funeral services for Daisy Belinda McElveen, conducted by Bishop William E. Scott, were held Sun., Nov. 23, 2003, at New Jerusalem Holiness Church, Apostolic Faith in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Spring Bank Cemetery in Kingstree. Ms. McElveen died Nov. 19, 2003, from serious injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born July 27, 1977, in Clarendon County, a daughter of David Isiah McElveen and Evangelist Nettie S. McElveen. She attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. She joined New Jerusalem Holiness Church, Apostolic Faith, where she sung on the youth choir. Survivors, in addition to her parents of the home, are: two daughters, Shaquilla and DePresha McElveen of the home; one sister, Mrs. Mae Geneva Wood of Columbia; one brother, David Wayne McElveen of the home and her grandmother, Mrs. Elma Scott of Cades.
BESSIE HODGE -- Mrs. Bessie Elise McClam Hodge, 90, wife of the late Preston E. Hodge, died Mon., Dec. 8, 2003, in a Florence hospital. Funeral services were held Wed., Dec. 10, 2003, at Sandy Bay Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial, directed by Brockington Funeral Home, followed at Camp Branch Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery. Mrs. Hodge was born in Florence County, a daughter of the late Frank and Abby Gail Osborne McClam. She was a member of Sandy Bay Pentecostal Holiness Church. Survivors are: five daughters, Pansy McCutcheon of Cades; Nell Shifflett, Barbara Spanos and Rosie Bullard, all of Charleston; and Val Ford of Inman; one son, Pressley Hodge of Cades; one sister, Fannie McElveen of Turbeville; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
WILBERT GREEN -- Funeral services for Wilbert Green, conducted by the Rev. Tommy Shubrick and Bishop Thomas Plowden, were held Fri., Dec. 13, 2003, at Bibleway Temple in Lane. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Big Spring Cemetery in Greeleyville. Mr. Green, 64, died Mon., Dec. 8, 2003, at Carolinas Hospital System. He was born Feb. 9, 1939, in Georgetown County, a son of the late Blease Green and Sadie Lowery Green. He attended the public schools of Georgetown County. He was formerly employed as a truck driver. He was a member of Bibleway Temple. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Loretta Green of Greeleyville; five daughters, Mrs. Lorraine Soule of Troy, New York; Mrs. Annette Montgomery and Glenda Lee Green, both of Greeleyville; Brenda Lee Green of St. Stephen; and Gwen McGill of Summerville; one brother, Blease Herman Green of Tampa, Florida; two sisters, Mrs. Nora Benbow of North Summerton; and Victoria Felder of Charlotte, North Carolina; 14 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
