ESTHER COOPER -- Funeral services for Esther Lucille Cooper, conducted by the Rev. Franklin Garrett, were held Sat., March 13, 2004, at Bethesda United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Dr. James Cemetery in Kingstree. Ms. Cooper, "Coot" or "Sister," was born March 16, 1918, in Williamsburg County in Kingstree, daughter of the late Rev. Mose C. Cooper and Elvena Chandler Cooper. She was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church, where she served on the choir, United Methodist Women and Queen Esther Circle. Ms. Cooperıs early educational career began at Cooperıs Academy and Tomlinson High School. She attended Morris College in Sumter and the South Carolina State University in Orangeburg. Her teaching career spanned more than 30 years in Williamsburg County, beginning at King School and ending at St. Mark Elementary and High School. Survivors are: three brothers, Josiah B. Cooper, Mose C. Cooper and Dr. B.J. Cooper, all of Kingstree; and one sister, Mrs. Bernice Singleton of Andrews.

RUTH SCOTT -- Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth "Manda" Thompson Scott, conducted by the Rev. S.A. Green, were held Tues., March 16, 2004, at the Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Rocky Ford Cemetery in Salters. Mrs. Scott, 80, died Thurs., March 11, 2004, at the McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. She was born Feb. 20, 1924, in Salters, a daughter of the late Mose and Etta Cokely Thompson. She received her formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was a member of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church, where she served as an usher, deaconess and missionary. She was also an Eastern Star. She was married to the late Junior Scott. Survivors are: one son, James Thompson of the home; two grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

RICH FULMORE -- Funeral services for Rich Fulmore, conducted by Overseer Early Singletary, were held Mon., March 15, 2004, at Mt. Carmel Holiness Church in Lake City. Burial, directed by Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home, followed at the churchyard cemetery. Mr. Fulmore, 60, died Mon., March 8, 2004, at his residence in Englewood, New Jersey. He was born Nov. 9, 1943, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Pearl Fulmore. He attended the public schools of Florence County. As a child, he joined Mt. Carmel Holiness Church. After moving to Englewood, New Jersey, he joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church. He was employed by the Board of Education at Middle School in Englewood, New Jersey. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Lottie Drakeford Fulmore of Engelwood, New Jersey; two sisters, Mrs. Lillie Mae Fulmore and Mrs. Laura Howard, both of Lake City; one brother, James Edward Fulmore of Lake City; and one special cousin reared as a sister, Lucine Simmons of Lake City.

JEFF BROWN, JR. -- Funeral services for Jeff Brown, Jr., conducted by the Rev. Francis Mitchell, were held Sat., March 13, 2004, at St. Stephen Baptist Church in Cades. Burial, directed by Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home, followed on Monday, March 15, 2004, at the National Cemetery. Mr. Brown died Mon., March 8, 2004, at Carolinas Hospital Systems-Florence. He was born in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Jeff Brown, Sr., and Liddie McFadden Brown. He joined the Lake Point Baptist Church at an early age. For the past two years he was a member of St. Stephen Baptist Church. He was a farmer and a World War II veteran. Survivors are: niece, Mrs. Alberta Godwin of the home; two nieces reared like daughters, Ophelia Brown of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; and Vernerva "Tootie" Brown; a nephew reared like a son, Jessie Junior Brown of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; a grandniece reared like a daughter, Beattie "Parchie" Malone of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; a grandnephew reared like a son, Jimmy Brown of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; and two sisters, Suelee Hannah of Pompano Beach, Florida; and Ophelia Guiles of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

AILEEN JEFFRIES -- Aileen Frierson Jeffries, 84, formerly of Oak Island, North Carolina, died on March 12, 2004. Mrs. Jeffries was born August 27, 1919, in Kingstree. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Sechrest Funeral Service of Archdale is assisting the family. Survivors are: her husband, Harvey B. Jeffries; two daughters, Jo Tilghman of Wilmington; and Susan Harris of Jamestown; and four grandchildren.

LEROY BROWN -- Funeral services for Leroy Brown, conducted by the Rev. Minnie B. Davis, were held Tues., March 16, 2004, at Great Present A.M.E. Church in Andrews. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Great Present A.M.E. Church Cemetery. Mr. Brown, 49, died Thurs., March 11, 2004, at Providence Hospital in Columbia. He was born Jan. 26, 1955, a son of Mrs. Rena Rush Brown and the late Mr. Cleesar. He was educated in the public schools of Georgetown County. He was a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors, in addition to his mother of Andrews, are: his wife, Mrs. Gladys S. Brown of Salters; one daughter, Jennifer Brown of Salters; one step-daughter, Michelle Sumter of Salters; two brothers, Michael Brown of Myrtle Beach; Phillip Brown of Georgetown; and five sisters, Cynthia Brown of Andrews; Janice Lane, Mary Lance and Martha Brown, all of Columbia; and Sylvia Myers of Georgetown.

PATRICIA JAMES -- Funeral services for Patricia James, conducted by the Rev. Evans, will be held Fri., March 19, 2004, at Faith United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, will follow at the church cemetery. Ms. James died Sat., March 13, 2004, at Providence Hospital in Columbia. She was born Nov. 6, 1952, in Kingstree, a daughter of Mrs. Estelle Montgomery James and the late Ben James. She was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. Surviving, in addition to her mother of Lake City, is one sister, Allie Mae Adams of Syracuse, New York.

SELMA FRIERSON -- Funeral services for Selma Lee Frierson, conducted by Father Kerre, were held Wed., March 17, 2004, at Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Wilson Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. Ms. Frierson, 76, died Fri., March 12, 2004, at her residence in Kingstree. She was born April 21, 1927, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Steven Frierson, Sr., and Maggie Fulton Frierson. She was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church. In her early years, she was a member of Wilson Chapel Baptist Church. Survivors are: one daughter, Sandra Jean Wilson of Kingstree; one sister, Sula Mae Burgess of Pahokee, Florida; and five grandchildren.

HERMAN MISCHNER -- Funeral service for Herman "Red" Mischner, 84, were held Tues., Jan. 13, 2004, at Tree of Life Congregation. Burial, directed by Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, followed at Beth Or Cemetery in Kingstree. Mr. Mischner died Sun., Jan. 11, 2004. Born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Highland Park, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Sam and Rachel Panter Mischner. He attended the University of Georgia and was a graduate of the Merchant Marine Academy. He served four years as a naval engineering officer in the Pacific Theater during World War II. The former co-owner of Williamsburg Building Supply Co. in Kingstree, he retired to Columbia in 1987. Mr. Mischner was a member of the Tree of Life Congregation, Kiwanis, SCORE, American Legion, Columbia Country Club and Woodlands Country Club. He was a mason, docent at the State Museum and served on the selection board for United States Military Academies. Survivors are: his wife, Annabelle Schulman Mischner; two sons, Jimmy Mischner of Lexington, Kentucky; and Michael Mischner of Camden; and four grandsons. Memorials may be made to Tree of Life Congregation, 6719 North Trenholm Rd., Columbia, South Carolina 29206, Temple Beth Or, c/o Sidney Dubin, Kingstree, South Carolina 29556 or American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, South Carolina 29210.

LOYD McCREA -- Funeral services for Loyd McCrea, conducted by the Rev. Joseph Corbin, were held Mon., Jan. 19, 2004, at St. Mary A.M.E. Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at the churchyard cemetery. Mr. McCrea, 65, died Wed., Jan. 14, 2004, at his residence in Salters. He was born Sept. 20, 1938, a son of the late Loyd McCrea and Marthena McCrea. He attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was formerly em-ployed as a construction worker. He was a member of St. Mary A.M.E. Church. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Dorothy McCrea of the home; four sons, Edward McCrea and Michael McCrea, both of Salters; Benjamin McCrea of Germany and Timothy McCrea of Myrtle Beach; two daughters, Mrs. Patricia Wilson and Mrs. Beverly Daniels, both of Salters; three brothers, Harold McCrea of Salters; Emerson McCrea of Clearwater, Florida; and Abraham McCrea of Salters; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Hodge of Mullins; and Mrs. Rachel Mouzon of Salters; and 18 grandchildren.
