Phillip Boyd, were held Tues., Jan. 13, 2004, at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Greeleyville. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at St. John Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Brown, 72, died Thurs., Jan. 8, 2004, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning. He was born Jan. 25, 1931, in Greeleyville, a son of the late Aaron Brown, Sr., and Carrie Montgomery Brown. He received his formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was a member of St. John Baptist Church and was also a member of Woodstock Masonic Lodge No. 455. He was employed for several years as a machine operator for the CSX Railroad Company. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Ernestine B. Brown of the home; two sons, Thurmond Brown and Jerold L. Brown, both of Greeleyville; three daughters, Avis Brown and Linda Brown, both of Greeleyville; and Susan Bowman of Gastonia, North Carolina; one step-daughter, Mrs. Deletta Johnson of St. Louis, Missouri; three sisters, Mrs. Corrie L. McFadden, Mrs. Easter M. Green and Clara Chatman, all of Greeleyvile; three brothers, Jessie Brown, Sammie Brown and Joseph Brown, all of Greeleyville; and 14 grandchildren.
ANDREW SMITH -- Andrew James "Smitty" Smith, 62, died Wed., Jan. 7, 2004, at his residence. Funeral services were held Sat., Jan. 10, 2004, at Elim Methodist Church in Andrews. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at the church cemetery. Mr. Smith was born in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Nora F. and Andrew Smith. He was a graduate of Kingstree High School and was retired from the United Parcel Service. Mr. Smith was a member of Elim Methodist Church in Andrews. Survivors are: his wife, Sherrie Smith of Darlington; three sons, Andrew J. Smith, Jr., Andrew J. Smith, II of Darlington; and John Kenneth Smith of Darlington; one brother, Ken Smith of Andrews; one sister, Emma S. Murray of Andrews; and one grandson.
CLARENCE GAUSE -- Clarence Gause, 72, died Fri., Jan. 9, 2004, at a Florence hospital. Funeral services were held Sun., Jan. 11, 2004, at Kingstree Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at the church cemetery. Mr. Gause was born in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Ellen Carraway and Hobson Gause. He attended Williamsburg County schools and was retired from the South Carolina Department of Transportation as a foreman. Mr. Gause was a member of Kingstree Pentecostal Holiness Church. Survivors are: his wife, Laura Evans Gause of Lake City; two daughters, Ellie Tribble of Kingstree; and Tressie Lambert of Andrews; three adopted daughters, Rose Cockfield of Lake City; Mary Owens of Johnsonville; and Amanda Gause of Lake City; one adopted son, Darryl Gause of Kingstree; three sisters, Vivian Cooper of Camden; Myrtle Smith of Kingstree; and Roberta Gannon of Darlington; three brothers, Buford Gause and Thomas R. Gause of Kingstree; and Norman Gause of Florence; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
MARJORIE JACOBS -- Marjorie Elizabeth Paul Jacobs, 84, widow of Montague H. Jacobs, die Tues., Jan. 6, 2004, in Florence. Funeral services were held Fri., Jan. 9, 2004, at the Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Williamsburg Cemetery. Mrs. Jacobs was born in Macon, Georgia, a daughter of the late Oscar and Juanita Paul. She was a graduate of Georgia State College for Women and was a Georgia State Womenšs Tennis Champion in 1938-1939. Mrs. Jacobs was a member of Kingstree Presbyterian Church. Survivors are: two sons, C. Paul Jacobs of Columbia; and Louis Jacobs of Florence; one brother, Clayton Paul of Macon, Georgia; and two grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Thornwell Orphanage or Kingstree Presbyterian Church.
JAMES COOK -- James William (Jimmy) Cook, 64, died Sat., Jan. 10, 2004, in a Jacksonville, Florida hospital. Graveside funeral services, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, were held Wed., Jan. 14, 2004, at the Burgess Cemetery near Kingstree. Mr. Cook was born in the Bethel Community of Williamsburg County to James R. and Mattie Stewart Cook, and attended Hebron School. Survivors are: two sisters, Vivian Reber of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; and Laura Purser of Conyers, Georgia; and one brother, James (Jack) Cook of Chapin. Memorials may be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32257.
LELAND EADDY -- Leland J. "Bobcat" Eaddy, 68, died Sun., Jan. 11, 2004, at the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital in Charleston. Funeral services were held Tues., Jan. 13, 2004, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Hemingway. Burial, directed by Morris Funeral Home, followed at Indiantown Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Mr. Eaddy was born in Hemingway, a son of the late Dewey Philip and Effie Rogers Eaddy. He was a member of Indiantown Presbyterian Church, a graduate of Indiantown High School, a retired machinist for Georgetown Steel Corp., a member of United Steel Workers, where he served as past recording secretary, a member of Leo Masonic Lodge, where he served as past master, and was a member of Indiantown Deer Hunting Club. Survivors are: his wife, Margaret Ann Baxley Eaddy of the home; two sons, Phillip Walter Eaddy and Leland Reginald Eaddy, both of Indiantown; one brother, Vanick Eaddy of Mississippi; and three grandchildren.
ARCHIE STRICKLAND -- Archie Laverne Strickland, 78, died Wed., Feb. 18, 2004, at Southland Health Care Center in Florence. Funeral services were held Fri., Feb. 20, 2004, at Lake City Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial, directed by Brockington Funeral Home, followed at Lake City Memorial Park. Mr. Strickland was born in Florence County, a son of the late Archie Bright and Virgie Lee Powell Strickland. He was a retired route manager with Independent Life Insurance Company. He was a member of the Lake City Pentecostal Holiness Church and the Mae Wall Sunday school class. He was a mason with Lake City Lodge #193 AFM, American Legion. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Survivors are: his wife, Louise Pate Strickland of Scranton; and two sisters, Eula Lee S. McKnight and Magdalene S. Owens of Kingstree. Memorials may be made to Alzheimeršs Association, Coastal Carolina Chapter, Post Office Box 80459, Charleston, South Carolina 29416; or Connie Maxwell Childrenšs Home, Post Office Box 1178, Greenwood, South Carolina 29648-1178.
JAMANI McCUTCHEN -- Little Miss Jamani (Mani) DezUnique McCutchen died Fri., Feb. 13, 2004. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Wallace J. McKnight, Sr., were held Wed., Feb. 18, 2004, at Mt. Lebanon A.M.E. Church in Andrews. Burial, directed by McKnight-Fraser Funeral Homes, Inc., followed at Mt. Lebanon Church Cemetery. Mani was born Tues., Sept. 2, 2003, a daughter of John and Agretta Eaddy McCutchen. She was baptized at Mt. Lebanon A.M.E. Church on January 4, 2004. She was admitted at Georgetown Memorial Hospital on January 6, her condition deteriorated and she was airlifted to the Medical University of South Carolina, where she later passed away. Survivors, in addition to her parents of Kingstree, are: three brothers, Jarontay D., Johntrey D. and JohnTrez D. McCutchen, all of the home; her maternal grandparents, Walter and Dorothy Eaddy of Kingstree; her paternal grandparent, Verna Swinton; her paternal great-grandmother, Earlean Mc-Cutchen of Andrews; her maternal great-grandmother, Louise Mc-Cray; and her great-grandparents, Emma Johnson (Roosevelt) of Bloomingvale.
MARIE AMPAH -- Funeral services for Mrs. Marie Keels Ampah, conducted by Bishop Kenneth Swaringer and Bishop Alex Palmer, were held Sat., Feb. 21, 2004, at St. John Apostolic Church in Greeleyville. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Keels Cemetery. Mrs. Ampah, 48, died Sun., Feb. 15, 2004, at South Miami Hospital. She was born July 13, 1954, a daughter of the late Willie C. Keels, Jr., and Maggie Keels. She attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was formerly employed by Mt. Nebo Daycare Center as a teacher. She was a member of St. John Apostolic Church. Later she joined Greater Faith Temple in Miami, Florida. Survivors are: her husband, Joseph K. Ampah of Miami, Florida; one son, Erick D. Keels of Greeleyville; four daughters, Mrs. Victoria Betts, Shayrone Keels, Shanika Ampah and Katrice Ampah, all of Miami, Florida; three brothers, Deacon John Henry Keels and Willie Keels, Jr., both of Greeleyville; and Kelly J. Keels of Kingstree; three sisters, Mrs. Christine Palmer, Girleen Stephens and Para L. Keels, all of Greeleyville; and nine grandchildren.
CHINA KENNEDY -- Funeral services for Mrs. China Murray Kennedy, conducted by the Rev. Clifford Levine, were held Sat., Feb. 21, 2004, at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Lane. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Cowhead Cemetery. Mrs. Kennedy, 95, died Wed., Feb. 18, 2004, in York, Pennsylvania. She was born May 26, 1908, a daughter of the late McDonald and China Murray. She attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, where she served on the senior choir, Missionary Society and Stewardess Board. Survivors are: one son, Adam Kennedy of York, Pennsylvania; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
