Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com RANDAL BROWN -- Randal "Randy" Bailey Brown, 16, died Sat., Feb. 21, 2004, as the result of an automobile accident in Williamsburg County near Andrews. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. James L. May, were held Tues., Feb. 24, 2004, at Piney Forest Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Andrews Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home, followed at Andrews Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Brown was born in Georgetown on November 12, 1987, a son of David Bruce Brown and Melinda Mouzon Brown. He was a member of Piney Forest Baptist Church. He was a tenth grade student at Andrews High School. He always had a love for sports, beginning in his early years with the Georgetown Recreational Department's baseball and basketball teams. He was a member of the Andrews High School football team and the golf team. He was ranked third in this class. He was a member of the Academic Letter Club, National Honor Society, SAT team, and "Who's Who" for outstanding and distinguished students. He was also a member of the Future Farmers of America Club. Survivors, in addition to his parents of Andrews, are: one brother, Rick Brown of Andrews; one sister, Emily Brown of Andrews; his paternal grandparents, Bruce and Ann Brown of Andrews; and his great-grandmothers, Lillie Brown and Elva Bailey, both of Andrews. LUCILLE MORRIS -- Funeral services for Mrs. Lucille Scott Morris, conducted by the Rev. Reatha Brown, were held Tues., Feb. 24, 2004, at St. John A.M.E. Church. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at the churchyard cemetery. Mrs. Morris, 76, died Fri., Feb. 20, 2004, at Williamsburg Regional Hospital. She was born April 10, 1927, a daughter of the late Amos Scott and Mary McClary Scott. She attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was formerly employed as a cook for Williamsburg County School System. She was a member of St. John A.M.E. Church, where she served on the Missionary Society Board, Steward Board and senior choir. Mrs. Morris also served as senior choir president, Sunday school teacher and church secretary for 30 years. Survivors are: three sons, Daniel Morris, Julius Morris and Clyde E. Morris, all of Trio; five daughters, Veronica Morris and Marilyn Morris, both of Brooklyn, New York; Mrs. Ellyn A. Alston of Trio; Mrs. Barbara Morris of Miami, Florida; and Ruther M. Henry of Tampa, Florida; one step-daughter, Sarah Mazyck of Brooklyn, New York; adopted sisters and brothers, Francis Davis of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Precious Davis of Bronx, New York; Rena McCrea and James Davis, both of Andrews; Barbara Murduck, Marion Davis, Eddie Leroy Davis, Bernard Davis and Eugene Davis, all of Baltimore, Maryland; 24 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
VIOLA FOOTMAN -- Funeral services for Mrs. Viola Fulton Footman, conducted by the Rev. Dr. L.C. Bines, were held Tues., Feb. 24, 2004, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Greenlawn Cemetery. Mrs. Footman, 85, died Thurs., Feb. 20, 2004, in Florence. She was born August 13, 1918, a daughter of the late Anthony Fulton, Sr., and Lorena Pendergrass Fulton. She attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, where she served as adult Sunday school class teacher. Survivors are: one daughter, Mrs. Vivian Bufkin of Cades; one son, Louis Footman of Durham, North Carolina; a grandson she reared, Cameron Footman of Stockbridge, Georgia; a grandson she reared as her own, Chester Footman of Kingstree; two brothers, Nathaniel Fulton of Lincoln, Delaware; and Paul Fulton of Durham, North Carolina; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
BELVER GAMBLE -- Mrs. Belver S. Gamble, widow of Thomas D. Gamble, Jr., died Tues., Feb. 17, 2004, in a Florence nursing center. She was 85. Funeral services were held Fri., Feb. 20, 2004, graveside at the Kingstree Memorial Gardens, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mrs. Gamble was born in Williamsburg County, a daughter of Roswell P. and Oneida McCrea Scott. She attended Williamsburg County schools and was a homemaker. Mrs. Gamble was a member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. Survivors are: one daughter, Eva T. Saltik of Marietta, Georgia; one son, Thomas D. Gamble, III, of Nesmith; three sisters, Floride Ward of Georgetown; Emma Laurie Bell and Mona Lee Timmons, both of Kingstree; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Tisdale Cemetery.
EDNA MIMS -- Edna Scott Mims, 84, wife of John DuRant Mims, died Monday, March 15, 2004, at Carolinas Hospital System-Lake City. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Billy Cooper, were held Wed., March 17, 2004, at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church near Greeleyville. Burial, directed by Stephens Funeral Home, followed at the church cemetery. Born June 30, 1919, in Williamsburg County, she was a daughter of the late George Walter and Arrie Belle Buddin Scott. She was of the Methodist faith. Survivors, in addition to her husband of Manning, are: three daughters, Lorraine Kropft of Manning; Roberta Burrows of Sumter; and Lois Shaff of Glennville, Georgia; one son, Dr. Albert Mims of Lake City; five sisters, Evelyn Cain of Columbia; Janet McCrea of Kingstree; Virginia Tedder and Gracie Chandler, both of Kingstree; and Doris Tisdale of St. Stephen; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to your local Meals-On-Wheels.
MELVA TAYLOR -- Melva Hanna Taylor, 86, died Tues., March 16, 2004, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Funeral services, conducted the Rev. James L. May, were held Thurs., March 18, 2004, at Piney Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Andrews Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home, followed at Piney Forest Cemetery. Mrs. Taylor was born in Williamsburg County near Andrews on May 8, 1917, a daughter of the late Prudence Hanna. She lived in the Piney Forest community most of her life. Mrs. Taylor was Woman of the Year for Woodman of the World. She was a member of Piney Forest Baptist Church and was secretary and treasurer of the Woman's Missionary Union for many years. Mrs. Taylor was the widow of Daniel Wesley Taylor. Survivors are: three sons, David W. Taylor of Johnsonville; Darious W. Taylor of Rural Hall, North Carolina; and Dan W. Taylor of Andrews; four daughters, Jeanette T. Mixon and Elsie T. Cumbie, both of Andrews; and Bunny T. McKenzie and Dorothy T. Watford, both of Kingstree; 24 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Piney Forest Baptist Church Building Fund, 60 Fifty Cent Rd., Andrews, South Carolina 29510.
BERTHA PRICE -- Mrs. Bertha Mae Price, widow of William N. (Tot) Price, died Wed., March 17, 2004, in a Florence hospital. Funeral services were held Fri., March 19, 2004, at Sandy Bay Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Sandy Bay Cemetery. Mrs. Price was born May 27, 1934, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of Marvin E. and Mary Lillian Miles Parker. She attended Williamsburg County schools and was a homemaker. Mrs. Price was a member of Sandy Bay Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she was also a member of their Golden Years Club. Survivors are: one son, Doug Price of Kingstree; one daughter, Gwen Skvarek of Kingstree; two sisters, Orie Gause of Kingstree; and Mary Lene Nelson of Charleston; one brother, Larry Parker of Charleston; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Sandy Bay Cemetery, 1753 McCutcheon Road, Kingstree, SC 29556.
SALLIE MORRIS -- Sallie Altman Morris, 89, died Fri., March 19, 2004, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Steve Wilson and the Rev. Henry Duncan, Jr., were held Sun., March 21, 2004, at Oak Ridge Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial, directed by Andrews Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home, followed at Oak Ridge Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Morris was born on Feb. 18, 1915, in the Suttons Community of Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late John Mack Altman and Elizabeth Theodosia Ward Altman. She graduated from Suttons High School as valedictorian and lived in the Oak Ridge community most of her life. She was employed for 30 years with Oneita Industries, Inc. until her retirement. She was a Sunday school teacher at Oak Ridge Pentecostal Holiness Church for 28 years. She was the widow of Leroy Marvin Morris. Survivors are a host of nephews and nieces.'
RUBY McCUTCHEN -- Ruby Theresa McCutchen, 90, died Wed., March 17, 2004, in a Florence hospital. She had been a resident of The Presbyterian Home of South Carolina in Florence since 1999. Funeral services were held Fri., March 19, 2004, at the church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Williamsburg Cemetery. Miss McCutchen was the daughter of the late Thomas McCutchen, Sr., and Lucille Cunningham McCutchen. Miss McCutchen graduated from Flora McDonald College in Red Springs, North Carolina, where she majored in music. She taught music in the public schools of North Carolina, Georgia and South Carolina and then worked for Dr. Michael Holmes in Kingstree for 35 years. She was a member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church in Kingstree. Survivors are a host of nephews and nieces. Those wishing to send memorials are asked to send them to Williamsburg Presbyterian Church or the Presbyterian Home of South Carolina.
ITIE CLAYTON -- Itie May Oliver Clayton, formerly of Fayetteville, North Carolina, died Wed., March 17, 2004, at her home in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. A private family service was held Sat., March 20, 2004, at the Greeleyville United Methodist Church in Greeleyville. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Clayton was born Dec. 7, 1918, in Sumter, a daughter of Samuel Pete Oliver and Bettie Madeline Register. She moved to Fayetteville in the early 1930s and for many years was co-owner of Clayton Cigar Company. Survivors are: three daughters, Elizabeth Seawell Clayton Robinson of Wilson, North Carolina; Ann Oliver Clayton Reaves of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; and Mary Franklin Clayton Howard of Alexandria, Virginia; one son, William Franklin Clayton, III, of Fayetteville, North Carolina; and eight grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations to a local hospice or SPCA office would be appreciated.
