Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com HELEN HANNA JONES -- Funeral services for Mrs. Helen Hanna Jones were held Sun., Sept. 19, 2004, at the First Baptist Church, Boyce Chapel, Columbia. Burial followed at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Jones was born Sept. 9, 1920, in Kingstree, the daughter of the late Robert Calvin and Idonia McCutchen Hanna. Survivors are: three daughters, Becky Padgett of Chesapeake, Virginia; Mary Nicholson of Elkin, North Carolina; and Glenda Ridley of Charleston; one brother, Cecil Hanna of Kingstree; and her grandchildren.
KIMBERLY ATKINSON -- Kimberly Kirby Atkinson, 35, died Thurs., Sept. 21, 2004, at McLeod Regional Medical Center. Funeral services were held Fri., Sept. 24, 2004, in the Grace Free Will Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Brockington Funeral Home, followed in the Matthews Cemetery in Lake City. Mrs. Atkinson was born in Florence, a daughter of Richard and Gail Morris Kirby. She was a graduate of Lake City High School and was a student at Florence-Darlington Technical College. She was a homemaker and attended Grace Free Will Baptist Church in Lake City. Survivors, in addition to her parents of Scranton, are: her husband, Richard Jack "Rick" Atkinson of Johnsonville; one daughter, Megan McDaniel of Johnsonville; one son, Colby McDaniel of Johnsonville; three stepsons, Travis Atkinson of Hampton, Virginia, Bobby Atkinson and Dustin Atkinson, both of Johnsonville; one sister, Lisa Smith of Cades; one brother, Chris Kirby of Turbeville; and her grandmother, Vernice Broach of Florence. Memorials may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 120 Wall Street 19th Floor, New York, New York 10005.
HARVEY JEFFRIES -- Harvey B. Jeffries, 89, died Sun., Nov. 14, 2004, at Evergreens of High Point, North Carolina. Funeral services, directed by Sechrest Funeral Service, Inc., were held Sat., Nov. 20, 2004, at Oceanview United Methodist Church on Oak Island, North Carolina. Mr. Jeffries was born Dec. 13, 1914, in Greene County, Tennessee. He retired from Rose's Stores on Dec. 31, 1979, after serving as a manager for 46 years. He spent his years of retirement on Oak Island, North Carolina. He was married to the late Aileen Frierson Jeffries. Survivors are: two daughters, Mary Jo Tilghman of Wilmington, North Carolina, and Susan Harris of Jamestown, North Carolina; three grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, North Carolina 27262; Oceanview United Methodist Church or Kingstree United Methodist Church.
WILLARD ODOM -- Willard Rodgers Odom of Salters died Tues., Nov. 16, 2004, in a Columbia hospital. Funeral services were held Thurs., Nov. 18, 2004, at Union Presbyterian Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed in the churchyard cemetery. Mr. Odom was born Dec. 1, 1918, a son of the late Eli Hugh and Lois McClary Odom. He graduated from Kingstree High School, where he lettered in football and chorus. He retired from E.H. King Equipment Co. of Kingstree after 46 years in the construction industry. He was ruling Elder Emeritus of Union Presbyterian Church, where he served for 50 years. Survivors are: his wife, Elizabeth Wilson Odom; one daughter, Angelyn Odom DuRant of Camden; one son, Willard Hugh Odom of Summerville; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Union Presbyterian Church.
G.T. WARD -- Gerald Thomas (G.T.) Ward, 81, died Mon., Nov. 15, 2004, in Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Memorial funeral services, conducted by Rev. Hiram McElrath, were held Tues., Nov. 16, 2004, at Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Georgetown. Graham Funeral Home was in charge of arrangments. Mr. Ward was born Feb. 25, 1923, in Ogdensburg, New York, a son of the late Leo Benjamin Ward and Isabella Hunter Ward. He was a retired employee with International Paper, retiring in 1982 with more than 35 years of service. He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran and was of the Episcopal faith. Survivors are: his wife, Floride Scott Ward; two sons, Leo T. Ward of Kingstree and Hal Ward of Georgetown; two daughters, Penny W. Port and Nancy W. Cribb, both of Georgetown; a brother, John Hunter Ward of Lakelane, Florida; nine grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. Memorials may be made to Tisdale Cemetery, 4421 Thurgood Marshall Highway, Kingstree, South Carolina 29556 or to First Baptist Church, 219 Cleland Street, Georgetown, South Carolina 29440.
MILDRED ADAMSON -- Funeral services for Mrs. Mildred Elaine Barr Adamson, conducted by Rev. Herbert Godwin, were held Thurs., Oct. 21, 2004, at Wilson Chapel First Missionary Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Wilson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Adamson, 79, died Sun., Oct. 17, 2004, at Dr. Ronald E. McNair Nursing Center in Lake City. She was born Feb. 17, 1925, in Kingstree, a daughter of the late Nelson Barr, Sr. and Mrs. Beanie Pressley Barr. She was a member of Wilson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as president of the Womenıs Missionary, church school secretary, Deaconess, member of the senior and gospel choirs and a bible study participant. Survivors are: her husband, John Wesley Adamson of Kingstree; four sons, John Freddie Adamson of Kingstree; William C. Adamson of Spartanburg; Dr. James W. Adamson of Conway; and Dr. Nelson L. Adamson of Silver Spring, Maryland; one daughter, Cynthia Cunningham of Conway; one brother, Nelson Barr, Jr. of New York City, New York; four sisters, Mrs. Catherine Johnson and Mrs. Ethel McDonald, both of New York City, New York; Mrs. Ernestine Glover of Connecticut; and Mrs. Patsy N. Burgess of Kingstree; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
RUTH HUGHES -- Mrs. Ruth M. Hughes, 84, wife of the late Kelly M. Hughes, died Sun., Oct. 17, 2004, at her daughter's home in Florence. Funeral services were held Wed., Oct. 20, 2004, at Unity Christian Fellowship. Burial, directed by Brockington Funeral Home, followed at Beulah Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Hughes was born and reared in the Coward area, a daughter of the late Jeff and Essie Poston Miles. While in Columbia she was employed at the South Carolina State House. Upon retirement she become involved in the DSS Foster Care Program and was a foster parent for eighteen years. She was a member of Unity Christian Fellowship. Survivors are: two daughters, Linda Lynch of Effingham; and Sue Hughes McBride of Florence; one son, Mike M. Hughes of Florence; one half-sister, Ada Mae Miles Lee of Pamplico; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Free Will Baptist Home for Children, 5232 Turbeville Hwy., Turbeville, SC 29162.
TOMJANE McCORMICK -- Funeral services for Tomjane "Jannie" McCormick, conducted by Elder Dr. Mary Scott Nelson, were held Sat., Oct. 23, 2004, at Miracle Temple Bible Center in Salters. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Forest Green Memorial Park in Morganville, New Jersey. Ms. McCormick, 51, died Sun., Oct. 17, 2004, at Carolinas Hospital System, Lake City. She was born Nov. 16, 1952, in New York City, New York, to Walter McCormick and the late Mabel Green. She worked as a bus driver with the Williamsburg County School District, was classroom teacher with the Williamsburg County Alternative School District and a teacher's assistant at Battery Park Elementary School. She was the owner of Tiny Tots Day Care. She also worked at Prince George Nursing in Georgetown, Kingstree Nursing Facility in Kingstree and Hardeeıs. She was a member of Miracle Temple Bible Center, where she served as an usher, greeter, gospel choir member and usher board secretary. Survivors are: two sons, Octavious L. McCormick of Ridgeville and Elton D. McCormick of Virginia Beach, Virginia; two daughters, Lorea L. Goodwin of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Mrs. India J. Bradley of Columbia; a foster daughter, Mrs. Michelle Baker of Columbia; two brothers, George McCormick of Bayshore Long Island, New York, and John Burton Green, Jr., of Myrtle Beach; four sisters, Mildred Green, Mrs. Arleen Woods and Carol Anderson, all of Kingstree, and Rev. Menyorn Oliver of Manning; and 13 grandchildren.
ALLEN McCULLOUGH -- Graveside funeral services for Allen B. McCullough, conducted by Rev. Wyatt Mention, were held Sun., Oct. 24, 2004, at Faith United Methodist Church Cemetery in Kingstree. Burial was directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. McCullough, 37, died Mon., Oct. 18, 2004, in Duke Hospice in Durham, North Carolina. He was born April 3, 1967, in Camden, New Jersey. He was the son of the late David McCullough and Mrs. Sallie McCullough. He was the grandson of the late Venus and Hezekiah James and the late Mrs. Alberta and James McCullough. He was educated in the public schools of Camden, New Jersey and Kingstree. He was a graduate of North Carolina Central University and was employed by IBM as a project manager. Survivors are: his brother, David McCullough of Madison, Wiscon-sin; several aunts, uncles, grandaunts and granduncles.
BENJAMIN PRESSLEY -- Funeral services for Benjamin "Ben" Pressley, conducted by Rev. Leroy Epps and Rev. William McClary, were held Thurs., Oct. 21, 2004, at Apostolic Faith Mission Holiness Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Pressleyıs Funeral Home, followed at Greenlawn Cemetery. Mr. Pressley, 51, died Sat., Oct. 16, 2004, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. He was born Sept. 3, 1953, a son of the late Rev. Thomas Pressley and Mrs. Lillie Bell Boyd Pressley. He was a member of Apostolic Faith Mission Holiness Church. Mr. Pressley attended the public school system of Williamsburg County, graduating from Kingstree Senior High School in 1972. He was employed for many years with the Bonitz Company of Charleston as an interior finisher. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Hattie Houston Pressley of the home; one daughter, Ebone' Bianca Pressley of the home; and his brothers and sisters, Rev. James Pressley of Columbia; Isaac Pressley and Nathaniel Pressley, both of Kingstree; Albert Pressley of Newark, Ohio; Stephenson Pressley of Columbia; Lynn Pressley of Newark, Ohio; Seth Pressley of Lake City; Stanley Pressley of Birmingham, Alabama; Keith Pressley of Columbia; Mrs. Lillie Segres, Mrs. Rachel Cooper, Mrs. Hattie McKnight and Mrs. Cecelia Epps, all of Kingstree.
