Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com LEWIS HAIGLER, JR. -- Lewis Dantzler Haigler, Jr., 74, husband of Sue Sutton Haigler, died Fri., Oct. 22, 2004, in a Florence hospital. Funeral services, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, were held Sun., Oct. 24, 2004, at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. Burial followed at Williamsburg Cemetery. Mr. Haigler was born in Columbia, a son of Lewis D., Sr., and Maudeline Kinder Haigler. He was a graduate of Kingstree High School and the University of South Carolina, where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. Mr. Haigler was a member of the first class of Palmetto Military Academy in Columbia, a member of the South Carolina National Guard 51st Division, 296th Field Artillery and 248th Field Artillery, where he served as Commander of Battery B. He was the owner of Haigler Hardware in Kingstree for 35 years. Mr. Haigler served on the Williamsburg County Memorial Hospital Board, was a Hospice volunteer, was a Deacon and Elder Emeritus of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church and was a member of Bark Landing Hunting Club. Survivors, in addition to his wife of Kingstree, are: three daughters, Carol Edington of Sheffield, Alabama, Ann Spivey and Susan Haigler-Robles of Columbia; and seven grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church.
QUEEN MILLER -- Funeral services for Mrs. Queen Esther McFadden Miller, conducted by Minister Fulton Smith, were held Sat., Oct. 9, 2004, at the Church of Christ in Lake City. Burial, directed by Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Salters Cemetery in Salters. Mrs. Miller, 66, died Mon., Oct. 4, 2004, at the McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. She was born March 10, 1927, in Kingstree, a daughter of the late George McFadden and Mrs. Rosa Burgess McFadden. She attended and graduated from the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was married to the late Fred Goins Miller, Sr. Survivors are: three sons, Fred Goins Miller, Jr., of New Brunswick, New Jersey, George L. Miller of Lake City and Sgt. Maj. Lawrence F. Miller of Germany; six daughters, Juanita Alston of Richmond, Virginia, Pricilla A. Miller-McCutcheon and Kay R. McAlister, both of Warner-Robbins, Georgia, Italine Goins Davis of Macon, Georgia, Mrs. Mary Jane Cooper of Kingstree and Mrs. Maggie Chandler of Westerville, Ohio; one brother, Willie McFadden, Sr., of Kingstree; 27 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
EUNICE NIXON -- Funeral services for Eunice Nixon, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, were held Fri., Oct. 8, 2004, at Union Baptist Church No. 2 Cemetery in the Aimwell Community of Andrews. Rev. Francis Mitchell, Jr., pastor, officiated. Ms. Nixon, 66, died Sun., Oct. 3, 2004, at the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital in Charleston. She was born March 15, 1938, in Kingstree, a daughter of the late Dea. Govan Nixon, Sr., and Mrs. Daisy McCray Nixon. She received her formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County and attended nursing school. She was a member of Union Baptist Church No. 2. Survivors are: three sisters, Mrs. Ann Marie Mondrey of Dallas, Texas, Mrs. Vera Lewis of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Mrs. Willie Mae Washington of Andrews; five brothers, Willie Nixon of Charleston, Jimmy Nixon of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Billy Nixon of Summerton, Larry Nixon of Rochester, New York, and Govan Nixon, Jr., of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
OLA KIRBY -- Mrs. Ola Gowdy Kirby, 90, wife of the late Luther Wilbur Kirby, died Tues., Oct. 5, 2004, at Carolinas Hospital System-Lake City. Funeral services were held Fri., Oct. 8, 2004, at Hebron United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Brockington Funeral Home, followed at the church cemetery. Mrs. Kirby was born in Clarendon County, the daughter of the late John McSwain and Minnie Mims Gowdy. She was a homemaker and a member of Hebron United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and served on State and Local United Methodist Women Offices as a board member. Mrs. Kirby was the author of four published books, an artist, arts and crafts enthusiast, as well as loving flowers and maintaining a day lily patch. Survivors are: two sons, Ray Mallory Kirby of Cades and Keith Cecil Kirby of Manning; two daughters, Annis K. King of Cades and Janette K. Moore of Lake City; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Memorials may be made to Hebron United Methodist Church, 2321 Hebron Road, Cades, SC 29518.
JOHN MOORE -- Funeral services for John Henry Moore, conducted by Rev. Larry Culter, were held Sat., Oct. 2, 2004, in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Mr. Moore, 66, was born Aug. 4, 1938, in Greeleyville, a son of the late Ned and Rhoda (Keels) Moore. He attended the public schools of Greeleyville and was a member of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church, where he sang on the choir. He was employed by Expert Metal Slitters as a shift foreman for 30 years. Survivors are: his wife, Rubie (Bae Bae) Moore; two sons, John Willie Moore, Sr., and Rodney Moore of Bridgeport, Connecticut; four daughters, Rubie Ann Moore Hicks of Mobile, Alabama, Katina Moore of Bridgeport, Connecticut, Alma Jean Bright of Greeleyville, and Carmen Rivera of Bridgeport, Connecticut; two sisters, Thelma Moore of Manhattan, New York, Cleasie Mae Canty of Greeleyville; his mother-in-law, Minister Minnie Lee Robinson of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; two adopted sons; two adopted daughters; 21 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
CAROLYN JOHNSON -- Funeral services for Carolyn Timmons Johnson, conducted by Rev. Brian Schmidt, were held Tues., Nov. 23, 2004, at Newgate Community Church in Lumberton, North Carolina. Burial, directed by Floyd Mortuary and Crematory, followed in Floyd Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Johnson, 68, died Sat., Nov. 20, 2004, at Highsmith-Rainey Hospital in Fayetteville, North Carolina. She was married to James F. Johnson. Survivors, in addition to her husband of the home, are: one daughter, Julie Carter of Wilson, North Carolina; one son, Dennis Johnson of Myrtle Beach; one sister, Rubie Dell Johnson of Belton, Missouri; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
ABRAHAM McCREA, JR. -- Funeral services for Abraham Ricky McCrea, Jr., conducted by Rev. Amos Matthews, were held Wed., Nov. 24, 2004, in the Evangelistic Way of the Cross Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Salters. Mr. McCrea, 33, died Fri., Nov. 19, 2004, at his home in Salters. He was born March 30, 1971, in Kingstree, a son of Abraham McCrea, Sr., and Hazel Tisdale McCrea. He was a graduate of C.E. Murray High School. He was formerly employed by International Paper, Inc. He was a member of St. Asia Baptist Church and formerly sang with the church choir. Survivors, in addition to his parents of Salters, are: three sisters, Lakeisha McCrea of Salters, Mrs. Cateena Jenkins of Kingstree and Mrs. Victoria McCrea of Spartanburg; and his grandparents, Essie and Frank Tisdale of Greeleyville.
RALPH LONG -- Ralph Rudolph "Rudy" Long, 78, died Wed., Nov. 24, 2004, in the Kingstree Nursing Facility. Graveside funeral services, directed by Brockington Funeral Home, were held Fri., Nov. 26, 2004, in the Graham Cemetery in Cades. Mr. Long was born in Little River, a son of the late Obbie and Amanda Smith Long. He was a graduate of Wampee High School and a self-employed wholesale meat businessman. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge of North Myrtle Beach and an avid "retired" fisherman. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors are: his wife, Adele Graham Long of Lake City; one son, Jimmy Long of Lake C ity; one daughter, Becky L. Spivey of Simpsonville; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Southern Care Hospice, 217 Dozier Blvd., Suite 201, Florence, SC 29501.
DR. VERETTA SABB -- Funeral services for Dr. Veretta Johnson Sabb, conducted by Rev. Lewis Walker, Jr., were held Tues., Nov. 30, 2004, at Union Missionary Baptist Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Hunter Cemetery in Greeleyville. Dr. Sabb, 52, died Thurs., Nov. 25, 2004, in Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale, Georgia. She was born June 5, 1952, in Birmingham, Alabama, a daughter of Paul E. Johnson and the late Gustavia Royster Johnson. Dr. Sabb, a civil engineer, earned a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, a master of arts degree in mathematics from the University of Alabama and a doctor of philosophy degree in civil engineering from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. Her desire to educate and promote a quality education was exemplified by her teaching at Saint Augustine College in Raleigh, North Carolina, Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida, the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, the University of South Carolina in Columbia, the College of Charleston in Charleston, Sumter Area Technical College of Sumter, Morris College of Sumter and North Carolina A&T State University of Greensboro, North Carolina. At the time of her death, she was employed as an associate director of the University Transportation Center, School of Engineering Technology and Sciences, South Carolina State University in Orangeburg. She was a former member of the Black River Healthcare Board. Dr. Sabb was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church and was church usher and deaconess. She was a member of National Council of Negro Women and Williamsburg Technical College Area Commissioners. Survivors, in addition to her father, are: her husband, Attorney Ronnie Sabb of Greeleyville; one daughter, Whitney Annistavia Sabb of Greeleyville; two brothers, Leon Johnson, Sr., of Atlanta, Georgia, and Rev. Van Johnson of Birmingham, Alabama; and four sisters, Patricia Bobo, Mrs. Phyllis Sturdivant and Mrs. Barbara Thornton, all of Birmingham, Alabama, and Mrs. Yvonne Pressley of Salters. In lieu of flowers, the family requests condolences be mailed to the Dr. Veretta J. Sabb Scholarship Fund, C/O Good Hope Baptist Church, P.O. Box 311, Greeleyville, SC 29056.
JIMMY MULLINS -- Funeral services for Jimmy Russell Mullins, conducted by Rev. Herbert F. Godwin, were held Wed., Dec. 1, 2004, at Wilson Chapel First Missionary Baptist Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at the churchyard cemetery. Mr. Mullins, 43, died Wed., Nov. 24, 2004, at Wilson Medical Center in Darlington. He was born March 22, 1961, in Kingstree, a son of Mrs. Emma Nett Mullins Griffen and the late James Mullins. He was reared by his mother and Rose Wall Griffen. He received his formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County and graduated from Cades-Hebron High School. He was a member of Wilson Chapel First Missionary Baptist Church. He worked as a cook at Krispy Kreme of Florence and as a maintenance worker at Nan Ya Plastics of America in Lake City for several years. Survivors, in addition to his parents of the home, are: one daughter, Mrs. Denise Wilson Douglas of Miami, Florida; three brothers, James Mullins of Myrtle Beach, Dennis P. Mullins of Newark, New Jersey and Stevie Griffen of Iraq; four sisters, Mrs. Janice A. Tisdale of Trio, Willette Mullins of Orangeburg, Mrs. Mariah Wilson of Kingstree and Monica Griffen of Manning; and three grandchildren.
