Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com ALONZA BENNETT -- Funeral services for Alonza Murray Bennett, Jr., conducted by the Rev. Nathan Morris, were held Fri., Dec. 31, 2004, at St. John A.M.E. Church. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed in Bennett Cemetery in Trio. Mr. Bennett, 77, died Sat., Dec. 25, 2004, in Lancaster General Hospital in Lancaster, Pennsylva-nia. He was born in Trio, a son of the late Mrs. Belinda E. 'Bay' Bennett and the late Mr. Alonza Murray Bennett, Sr. He grew up in Williamsburg County and attended Trio Training School in Trio. He lived in Greensboro, North Carolina, and Lancaster, Pennsyl-vania. He was a member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He served as a deacon and was a member of the EBC Gospel Chorus at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Greensboro, North Carolina. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Barbara Bennett of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; two sons, Stanley Bennett and Dale Bennett, both of Greensboro, North Carolina; four daughters, Mrs. Belinda DeGloria Smith, Cordelia Bennett, Dori Bennett and Audrey Bennett, all of Greensboro, North Carolina; three sisters, Mrs. Henrietta Harrison and Mrs. Barbara Pushia, both of Salters, and Mrs. Willie Mae Montgomery of Greensboro, North Carolina; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
JOSEPH SANDERS -- Funeral services for Joseph Gray Sanders, conducted by Dr. Thomas Cuttino, were held Fri., Dec. 26, 2004, in the chapel at Greenlawn Funeral Home. Burial, directed by Greenlawn Funeral Home, followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Mr. Sanders died Thurs., Dec. 23, 2004, in Kingstree. He was born February 27, 1923, in Spring Hope, North Carolina, a son of the late Thomas Albert and Vivian Elizabeth Rich. He graduated from Dreher High School and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII on a P.T. boat. He was the owner of Sanders Tile Company and a member of Greenlawn Baptist Church. Survivors are: his wife, Leila Sanders; and two sisters, Elizabeth Dyches of Aiken and Harriett Johnson of Columbia.
OPAL EPPS -- Mrs. Opal Brown Epps, 91, widow of A.L. Epps, Jr., died Mon., Dec. 27, 2004, in a Kingstree hospital. Funeral services were held Thurs., Dec. 30, 2004, at Cedar Swamp United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed in the churchyard cemetery. Mrs. Epps was born in Kingstree, a daughter of the late Walter B. and Rosa Burrows Brown. She was employed by Preacheršs Drug store for 32 years. She was a lifetime member of Cedar Swamp United Methodist Church, where she was a longtime Sunday School teacher and choir member. She was a talented seamstress and was an extra in the movie The Notebook. Survivors are: two sons, Al Epps of Kingstree and Barney Epps of Atlanta, Georgia; foru grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Cedar Swamp United Methodist Church.
JAMES EVANS -- Funeral services for James "Ripper" Evans, Sr., conducted by the Rev. Devon Wright, Sr., were held Thurs., Dec. 30, 2004, at Pine Grove Free Will Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed in the Goodwill Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Evans, 78, died Sun., Dec. 26, 2004, at Williamsburg Regional Hospital in Kingstree after an illness. He was born March 2, 1926, in Cades, a son of the late Willard and Mariah Gregg Evans. He received his formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was a member of Pine Grove Free Will Baptist Church. He was a lifelong farmer. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Florine Adams Evans of the home; nine sons, James Evans, Jr., Willard Evans and Robert Evans, all of Hebron, Hugh Evans of Turbeville, Ronald Evans, Rickey Evans, Alphus Evans, Troy Evans and Cory Evans, all of Kingstree; four daughters, Mrs. Ida Burgess of Florence, Mrs. Edna James, Elizabeth Evans and Diana Evans, all of Kingstree; one brother, Willie Evans of Bronx, New York; 36 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
JOHN FULTON -- Funeral services for Mr. John Wesley Fulton, Sr., conducted by Elderess Ella McFadden, were held Thurs., Dec. 30, 2004, at Midway Freewill Baptist Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed in Kingstree Cemetery. Mr. Fulton, 75, died Sun., Dec. 26, 2004, in the Veteran Affairs Medical Center of Charleston. He was born July 27, 1929, in Kingstree, a son of the late John Rainy Fulton and Laura Fulton Wallace. He received his education in the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was a member of Midway Freewill Baptist Church and served as a Deacon. He retired from Georgia Pacific Industries. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Jessie Fulton of Kingstree; four sons, John Fulton, Jr., Benjamin Fulton andDavid Fulton, all of Kingstree, and Tony Fulton of Columbia; two daughters, Mrs. Gwen Pressley and Anna Pearl Fulton, both of Kingstree; one brother, Eugene Wallace of Kings-tree; one sister Mrs. Flossie Myers of Kingstree; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
WILLIE WOODS -- Funeral services for Mrs. Willie Mae Pressley Woods, conducted by the Rev. Joseph D. Ricks and the Rev. C.W. Green, were held Wed., Dec. 29, 2004, at Oak Grove Missionary Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed in the Crossroads Cemetery in Salters. Mrs. Woods, 78, died Sat., Dec. 25, 2004, at the home of her daughter. She was born Sept. 3, 1926, in Cades, a daughter of the late John Arthur Pressley, Sr., and Jettie Burgess Pressley. She received her formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was a member of St. Mary United Methodist Church, where she served on the Usher Board and the Missionary Board, sang in the choir and taught the Junior Class of the Sunday School. She later became a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church,where she served as a deaconess, stewardess and missionary. Survivors are: three sons, Maxcell Wood of Hampton, Virginia, Curtis Woods and Hosten Woods, both of Kingstree; two daughters, Mrs. Jettie R. Bell and Ellastine Horn, both of Columbia; three brothers, Abraham Pressley, Theryarn Pressley and Darius Pressley, all of Sumter; seven sisters, Francina Watkins, Mrs. Virginia Burgess and Mrs. Hagar Lee Corbitt, all of Sumter, Almeade Joyner of Washington, D.C., Mrs. Augustine Fowlks of Ft. Washington, Maryland, Mrs. Myrtle Pendergrass and Lorenna Pressley, both of Kingstree; and five grandchildren.
EDITH BRADLEY -- Funeral services for Edith Burgess Bradley, conducted by Rev. Raye T. Nelson and Rev. Oneil Miller, were held Thurs., Dec. 30, 2004, at St. Phillip AME Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed in the Smith-Cooper Cemetery. Mrs. Bradley was died Fri., Dec, 24, 2004, at Williamsburg Regional Hospital. She was born March 3, 1916, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Annie McCullough. She attended the public schools of Williamsburg County in the Blakely community. She worked as a farmer for many years. She was known for always having a beautiful garden. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Providence # 249. She was a member of St. Phillip AME Church, where she sang in the choir and also held the office of treasurer. She was married to the late Warren Burgess, Sr. Survivors are: seven children: Eliza Jane Williams of Tampa, Florida, Sam Burgess and John Arthur Burgess, both of Kingstree, Leroy Burgess of Hendersonville, North Carolina, OšNeal Burgess of District Heights, Maryland, Bishop Warren Burgess and Celest Burgess, both of Salters; two sons she accepted as her own, June and Darrell Porter; 37 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
ROBERT TISDALE -- Robert W. Tisdale, 67, died Sun., Jan 2, 2005, at a Charleston hospital. Funeral services, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, were held Tues., Jan. 4, 2005, at Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mr. Tisdale was born April 12, 1937, in Williamsburg County, a son of Adell Strong Tisdale and Robert Tisdale. He was educated in Williamsburg County schools and was the owner of Tisdale's Welding and Body Shop. He served in the National Guard. Survivors are: his wife, Juanita C. Tisdale; a son, Robert. W. "Bobby" Tisdale, Jr., of Salters; a daughter, Lisa T. Williams of Kingstree; two sisters, Jane T. Groves and Ruth T. Hahn of James Island; two brothers, John Edward Tisdale of Salters and Davis Tisdale of Hemingway; three grandchildren; and one step-grandson. Memorials may be made to Union Presbyterian Church.
CLARA WILLIAMS -- Funeral services for Clara Pressley Williams, conducted by Rev. Leonard Huggins, were held Mon., Jan. 3, 2005, at Friendship United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers funeral Home, followed in Friendship Cemetery. Mrs. Williams, 88, died Dec. 27, 2004, in Lake Marion Nursing Facility in Summerton. She was born April 23, 1916, in Nesmith, a daughter of the late Sara Pressley and Wig Pressley. She was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church. She was married to the late Clifton Armstrong Williams. Survivors are: one son, Robert Williams of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; three daughters, Mrs. Catherine Williams and Mrs. Bertha Williams, both of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Mrs. Estella Williams of Bridgeton, New Jersey; a special nephew, Willie Pressley of Nesmith; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
WAYNE LOCKHART -- C. Wayne Lockhart, 59, died Wed., Dec. 29, 2004, in a Charleston hospital. Graveside services, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, were held Fri., Dec. 31, 2004, at Kingstree Memorial Gardens. Mr. Lockhart was born in Oklahoma on Aug. 22, 1945, a son of Dorthy Parnell Lockhart and Carl Alexander Lockhart. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and was a supervisor at Farmers Telephone Cooperative. He was an Air Force Veteran and a volunteer baseball and softball coach for Williamsburg County and Williamsburg Academy. He was a member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, where he was a deacon. Survivors are: his wife, Nick Burrows Lockhart; three daughters, Starr Lockhart Carr of Mt. Pleasant; Sheila Lockhart Snead of Asheville, North Carolina, and Jennifer Lockhart of Charleston; two brothers, William A. Collins of Greenwood and Ted Lockhart of Kingstree; and one grandson. Memorials may be made to Williamsburg Presbyterian Church.
