Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com SAM GILES, JR. -- Funeral services for Deacon Sam Giles, Jr., conducted by Elder B. Holmes, were held Mon., Jan. 17, 2005, at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Lane. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Gordon Cemetery in Lane. Deacon Giles, 84, died Wed., Jan. 12, 2005, at Williamsburg Regional Hospital in Kingstree. He was born Nov. 10, 1920, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Rev. Samuel Daniel and Fannie M. Giles. He attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. He joined the CC Camp after school and later served in the U.S. Navy. He retired from Georgia Pacific in 1979. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school scholar, in the Male Chorus, and as a Pastors Aide, Trustee, Treasurer and Church Sexton. He attended the Jerusalem Association and sang with the Lane Jubilee Quartet Singers. Survivors are: his wife, Mary J. Giles of the home; one son, Deacon Abraham Giles of Lane; one daughter, Clara Ann Giles of Kingstree; three grandchildren he reared as his own, Mary Shaw of Florence, Lance Giles and Corey Giles, both of Lane; four sisters, Anna Fulton and Susie Mae Felder...
THELMA BRADLEY -- Funeral services for Thelma "Cuda" Harrison Bradley, conducted by Elder Kenneth L. Gibson, were held Fri., March 4, 2005, at Savannah Grove Freewill Baptist Church in Coward. Burial, directed by Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home, followed in the churchyard cemetery. Mrs. Bradley, 68, died Sun., Feb. 27, 2005, at the McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. She was born Sept. 3, 1936, in Cades, a daughter of the late Miller Harrison and Estelle McKenzie Harrison. She attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was a member of Savannah Grove Freewill Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir. Survivors are: her husband, Calvin C. Bradley, Sr., of the home; three sons, Donnie Bradley and Ronnie Bradley, both of the home; and Gernard Bradley of North Augusta, Georgia; three daughters, Glenda Robinson of Coward, Eva Mae Harrison of Lake City and Rolinda Bradley of Jacksonville, Florida; a special niece whom she reared as her own, Linda Barnes of Coward; four sisters, Dorothy Singletary and Annie Lee Matthews, both of Coward, Elizabeth Page of Pompano, Florida, and Mel Epps of Lake City; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
LEROY McCUTCHEN, JR. -- Funeral services for Leroy McCutchen, Jr., conducted by Rev. Gilbert Dekine, were held Sat., March 5, 2005, at St. James A.M.E. Church in Lane. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at St. James A.M.E. Church Cemetery. Mr. McCutchen, 60, died Sun., Feb. 27, 2005, at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah, GA. He was born on Sept. 14, 1944, a son of the late Leroy McCutchen and Daisy Morant McCutchen. He was a member of Phillips Temple C.M. Church in Philadelphia, Pennsyl-vania. Survivors are: two sisters, Geraldine Hutchinson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Mrs. Earlene Green of Savannah, Georgia.
SAMUEL CREEL -- Samuel "Sammy" Curtis Creel, 40, died Tues., Mar. 1, 2005, in a motorcycle accident in Williamsburg County near Andrews. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. John Henry Alford and Rev. Ronald Dease, were held Fri., Mar. 4, 2005, at The Christian Fortress. Burial, directed by Andrews Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home, followed in Andrews Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Creel was born Mar. 31, 1964, in Georgetown, a son of Sam W. Creel and the late Mary Margaret Moon Creel. He attended Williamsburg High School and was employed by Marine Terminal in Cainhoy. He was of the Holiness faith. Survivors, in addition to his father of Andrews, are: his wife, Sheila Hartley Creel of Andrews; three sons, Josh Creel, Corey Creel and Dillon Creel, all of Andrews; three brothers, Allen Creel, Ralph Creel and Larry Creel, all of Andrews; and three sisters, Barbara Matta of Sumter, Debra Tisdale of Andrews and Gladys Owens of Greenwood.
PETER BRITTON -- Peter McCross "Mac" Britton, 90, widower of Mae Dell Harter Britton, died Tues., Mar. 1, 2005, in Kingstree. Funeral services were held Sat., Mar. 5, 2005, in Union Presbyterian Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed in the church cemetery. Mr. Britton was born Jan. 15, 1915, in Williamsburg County, a son of Stephen P. and Annie Montgomery Britton. He was a retired farmer and a Mason. He was a member of Union Presbyterian Church, where he was a deacon. Survivors are: two daughters, Olive Ann Cable of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Carol Denit of Burtonsville, Maryland; one sister, Mary Curtis of Greensboro; and four grandchildren.
VIOLA EVANS -- Mrs. Viola Mack Evans, 85, a retired nurse's assistant, died Tues., March 1, 2005, at the Carolinas Hospital System-Florence. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. John S. Gary, were held Sat., March 5, 2005, at Old Mt. Zion A.M.E. Zion Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Jim Davis Marion Memorial Gardens in Salters. Mrs. Evans was born March 3, 1919, in St. Stephen, a daughter of the late Columbus Mack, Sr., and Regina Sumter Mack. She was educated in the public schools of Berkeley County and received her high school diploma and continued her education for an additional year. She was a member of Old Mt. Zion A.M.E. Zion Church. She was a member of the kitchen committee, nurse's aid committee, a Missionary Leader and president of the Senior Choir. She was a member of the Kingstree-Salters Christian Savings Club, where she was one of its original and oldest members. For 17 years, she worked as a nurse's assistant at the Williamsburg Regional Hospital. She was married to the late Raleigh Evans. Survivors are: one son, Henry Jones of Lanham, Maryland; one sister, Ruth Joye of Moncks Corner; a special granddaughter, Regina Myers of the home; five additional grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
SHIRLEY PARKER -- Shirley Rutha Lee Parker, 68, wife of Watson Parker, Jr., died Thurs., Mar. 3, 2005, in a Florence hospital. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Paul Sesock, were held Sat., Mar. 5, 2005, at First Assembly of God in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Brockington Funeral Home, followed at Kingstree Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Parker was born in Andrews, a daughter of the late Willard T. and Carrie Norton Eaddy. She retired from Baxter Laboratories, Inc. after 34 years. She was a substitute teacher and volunteer at King's Academy. She was a member of First Assembly of God. She was a Sunday school teacher and member of Women's Ministries. Survivors, in addition to her husband of Kingstree, are: two daughters, Jennell Lee of Florence and Gwen Hendry of Rock Hill; two sons, Michael Parker of Montgomery, Texas, and Reggie Parker of Myrtle Beach; six sisters, Eula Chalk of Columbia, Myrtis Hanna of Andrews, Macy Guy of Georgia, Myra Smith of Georgia, Juanita Epps of Greeleyville and Nell Morris of Columbia; one brother, Goldwyn Eaddy of Kingstree; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Memorials may be made to First Assembly of God, 872 Sumter Highway, Kingstree, SC 29556.
ANNA STEFANSKI -- Mrs. Anna Royko Stefanski, 91, widow of Walter Stefanski, died Mon., Feb. 28, 2005, at her daughter's home in Kingstree. Funeral and interment services were held in Johnson City, New York, and a memorial service will be held in Kingstree at a later date. Mrs. Stefanski was born Nov. 22, 1913, in Beaverdale, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late John and Anna Trusko Royko. She was retired from Dunn-McCarty Co. in Binghamton, New York. She was a former member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Binghamton and while in Kingstree attended St. Ann's Catholic Church. Survivors are: one daughter, Judy S. Cherinko of Kingstree; one son, Thomas Stefanski of Santa Clarita, California; one brother, Joseph Royko of Wayne, New Jersey; and four grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Tidelands Hospice, St. Ann's Catholic Church Building Fund or Williamsburg Regional Hospital.
ROBERT DURANT -- Funeral services for Robert "Malla" Durant, conducted by Bishop Kenneth Swaringer, were held Tues., Mar. 8, 2005, at Greater St. John Apostolic Church in Greeleyville. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed in Old Keels Cemetery. Mr. Durant, 82, died Thurs., Mar. 3, 2005, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. He was born June 2, 1922, a son of the late Ephraim Durant and Mrs. Hattie Bell Keels. He was a member of Greater St. John Apostolic Church, where he sang on the Gospel Choir. He was married to the late Mrs. Bell Robinson Durant. Survivors are: two sons, Alexander Durant of Lane and Calvin Durant of Columbia; two daughters, Mrs. Sadie Dukes and Bobby A. Durant, both of Greeleyville; one grandson he reared as his own, Otis Durant of Greeleyville; six additional grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
JEANETTE BURGESS -- Funeral services for Jeanette Francine Fleming "Tootsie" Burgess, conducted by Rev. Jerome Richardson, were held Sat., Mar. 5, 2005, at Greater Bethel AME Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at St. John's at Workman Cemetery in Kingstree. Mrs. Burgess died Tues., Mar. 1, 2005, at Williamsburg Regional Hospital in Kingstree. She was born Jan. 2, 1926, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Joe and Hester Burgess Fleming. She received her formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was employed for 24 years at Kelley Nursing Home. She worked for many years for Mrs. Wilhelmina Overby as a sitter for her child, Betty Ann Waddell. She also worked with the St. Ann Catholic Center until her health failed. She was a member of Greater Bethel AME Church. She was married to the late Alphonzo Burgess. Survivors are: one son, Kirt Levern Fleming; six stepsons, Alphonza Burgess, Paul Burgess, Alonza Burgess, James Burgess, Ernest Burgess and Harold Burgess; one stepdaugther, Rebecca Burgess; two brothers, Harrie Fleming and Leonard Fleming, both of Kingstree; two sisters, Dorothy Johnson and Leona Bell, both of Kingstree; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
