Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com DORIS McKENZIE -- Mrs. Doris McCutcheon McKenzie, 80, widow of Gerald LaRue McKenzie, Sr., died Sat., Feb. 26, 2005, in Kingstree. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Chesley Floyd, were held Tues., March 1, 2005, at Sandy Bay Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Smith Cemetery. Mrs. McKenzie was born May 1, 1924, in Florence County, a daughter of the late L.O. and Emma Matthews McCutcheon. She attended Florence County schools and was a member of Sandy Bay Pentecostal Holiness Church. Survivors are: one daughter, Mary M. Brown of Hemingway; five sons, G. LaRue (Snowball) McKenzie; Harry H. McKenzie, Shelly C. McKenzie and Richard McKenzie, all of Kingstree; and Harvey H. McKenzie of Springfield; two sisters, Linnie M. Matthews and Shelby Jean McCutcheon, both of Scranton; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Sandy Bay Pentecostal Holiness Church.
ALTON McCUTCHEN -- Alton Leroy McCutchen, 88, died Mon., Mar. 7, 2005, at his residence. Funeral services were held Wed., Mar. 9, 2005, at the Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Kingstree Memorial Gardens. Mr. McCutchen was born June 6, 1916, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Watson and Lillian Hanna McCutchen. He was a retired seed and fertilizer salesman and owner of Mac's Small Engine Repair. He was a member and former deacon of Kingstree Second Baptist Church. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Linnie Mae Altman McCutchen; two sons, Flynn McCutchen of Kingstree and Al McCutchen of Dalzell; one brother, Colin McCutchen of Kingstree; two sisters, Ester Coker and Margaret Driggers, both of Kingstree; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Tidelands Hospice, Georgetown.
LAWRENCE SMOAK -- Lawrence A. Smoak, 77, died Sun., Mar. 6, 2005, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital in Georgetown. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. J. Robert Huggins and Rev. Gary Adams, were held Tues., Mar. 8, 2005, at Earle United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by the Andrews Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home, followed at Harmony Cemetery. Mr. Smoak was born Sept. 15, 1927, in Cordova, a son of the late Hubert W. and Alma Smoak. He grew up in Cordova and lived in Georgetown for a number of years prior to moving to Andrews. He retired from the Container Division of International Paper Company after 39 years of employment. He was a member of Earle United Methodist Church, where he was a former trustee, administrative board member and a member of the United Methodist Men. Survivors are: his wife, Christine Taylor Smoak of Andrews; two sons, Roger L. Smoak of Georgetown and Gary A. Smoak of Dunn, North Carolina; two daughters, Corliss S. Woodson of Chester and Pam S. Mooneyham of Sumter; one brother, Walker M. Smoak of Orangeburg; four sisters, Vivian S. Stamps of Orangeburg, Gertrude S. Mack of Cordova, Llewellyn S. Fogle of Bamberg and Barbara S. Martin of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina; 14 grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Earle United Methodist Church, 1540 Seaboard Road, Andrews, S.C. 29510 or Harmony Cemetery Fund, c/o Christine Smoak, 1065 Country Club Road, Andrews, S.C. 29510.
MABEL THOMAS -- Funeral services for Mrs. Mabel Fulton Thomas, conducted by Rev. Standy McCrea, were held Fri., Mar. 11, 2005, at North Kingstree Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Florence National Cemetery. Mrs. Thomas, 84, died Tues., Mar. 8, 2005, at her home. She was born Mar. 20, 1920, in Kingstree, a daughter of the late Pinckney Fulton and Alice Bradley Fulton. She was married to the late John M. Thomas. Mrs. Thomas was a member of North Kingstree Baptist Church, where she served as a member of the Missionary Board, a member of the Church Choir and Sunday school treasurer. She was a member of Esther Chapter Order of the Eastern Star No. 265. Survivors are: four sons, Rev. John B. Thomas of Harleyville, Benny L. Thomas of Hartford, Connecticut, Harold L. Thomas of Greeleyville, and James A. Thomas of San Francisco, California; two daughters, Loretta E. Thomas and Mrs. Mattie Mae Madison, both of Kingstree; 18 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
DAVE MACK -- Funeral services for Dave Mack, conducted by Rev. Frank James, were held Sat., Mar. 12, 2005, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at St. Paul United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mr. Mack, 79, died Sun., Mar. 6, 2005, at a residential facility in Kingstree. He was born Feb. 15, 1926, a son of the late Bemer Mack and Margaret Murphy. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Sylvia Wilson Mack of Kingstree; two sons, Louis Mack of Miami, Florida, and Timothy McCrea of Georgetown; two step-sons, Leroy Joyner of Clearwater, Florida, and Alexander McCrea of Florence; two daughters, Mary Lee Mack and Katherine McCrea, both of Kingstree; four step-daughters, Mrs. Cora Bell Cobb of Georgetown, Mrs. Angela McClary of Kingstree, Mrs. Flora Owens of Miami, Florida, and Mrs. Charlotte McCrea of Rochester, New York; a special granddaughter whom he reared as his own, Latasha McCrea of Kingstree; one brother, Walter Murphy of New York, New York; 13 grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
CLYDA DENNIS -- Clyda Mae Tanner Dennis, 90, widow of Fred Dennis, died Thurs., Mar. 10, 2005, in a Georgetown hospital. Funeral services were held Sat., Mar. 12, 2005, at Union Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, followed in the church cemetery. Mrs. Dennis was born in Johnsonville, a daughter of the late Thomas Edward and Bertie Estelle Matthews Tanner. She was a member of Union Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. Survivors are: one daughter, Norma D. Spangler of Columbia; four sons, Edward L. Dennis of Litchfield, Donald G. Dennis of Johnsonville, and Freddy Dennis and Michael D. Dennis, both of Hemingway; two sisters, Alice Felgate of Nebraska and Creola Jowers of Lexington; one brother, Thomas G. Tanner of Oklahoma; 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Union Methodist Church, c/o L. Mayo Creel, 928 State Highway 41-51, Hemingway, SC 29554.
ROBERTA COX -- Roberta Mae Reid Cox, 63, wife of David N. Cox, died Sat., Mar. 12, 2005, at her residence. Funeral services were held Tues., Mar. 15, 2005, at Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Kingstree Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Cox was born April 12, 1941, in Spruce Pine, North Carolina, a daughter of the late James B. and Zella Biddix Reid. She was a retired seamstress and real estate salesperson and attended the Assembly of God Church. Survivors, in addition to her husband of Kingstree, are: one daughter, Pam Lloyd of Goose Creek; four sons, Al Coker of Kingsland, Georgia, Charlie Coker and Mark E. Cox, both of Kingstree, and Phil Cox of Goose Creek; a brother, Tommy Reid of Syracuse, New York; two sisters, Lois Clark of Lake Stevens, Washington, and Lucille Judge of Florence; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
LARRY PRESSLEY, SR. -- Funeral services for Larry Pressley, Sr., conducted by Presiding Elder Linwood Cooper, were held Mon., Mar. 14, 2005, in the chapel of Pressley's Funeral Home. Burial, directed by Pressleyıs Funeral Home, followed in the Kingstree Cemetery. Mr. Pressley died Wed., Mar. 9, 2005, at his residence. He was born June 9, 1965, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Woodrow Pressley and Janie DeCoster. He attended the public school system of Williamsburg County and graduated from Kingstree Senior High School. He was employed by the Jersey City Sanitation Department while living in Jersey City, New Jersey. Survivors are: two sons, Larry Pressley, Jr., and Dewight Pressley, both of Jersey City, New Jersey, siblings Woodrow Pressley, Jr., of New York, Steve Pressley of Bennettsville, Billy L. Pendergrass, Willie J. Tisdale, Nancy Mosley, Cynthia Fulton and Melissa McKenzie, all of Kingstree, and Ella Willis and Sylvia Baxter, both of Columbia.
SAMUEL FULTON, SR. -- Funeral services for Samuel Fulton, Sr., conducted by Rev. Lee C. Bines, were held Sat., Mar. 12, 2005, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at The Kingstree Cemetery. Mr. Fulton was born Dec. 12, 1928, a son of the late Cicero Fulton and Essie Shaw. He attended the schools of Williamsburg County as well as Tomlinson High School. He managed the family farm, worked for 10 years with the S.C. Department of Transportation and for 28 years with Baxter Laboratories. He assisted his wife with her floral design business and worked as a co-leader of the neighborhood beautification project, "The Sand Hills Willing Workers." He was a supporter of The American Heart Association. He was a member of and steward of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the United Methodist Men and co-captain of the December Club. He was formerly an active brother of the Universal Order of the Masonic Lodge. Survivors are: his wife, Curlee Vernon Fulton of the home; seven children, Samuel Fulton, Jr., of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Kenneth Fulton of Miami, Florida, Donice M. Jackson, Dorinda F. Taylor and Andre' J. Fulton, all of Kingstree, Debbie F. Muldrow of Florence, and Dana F. Tucker of Columbia; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
WILLIAM DORRELL -- William Roland Dorrell, 77, died Sat., Mar. 12, 2005, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Greg Thompson with a eulogy given by Larry Dorrell, were held Wed., Feb. 16, 2005, at Broad Swamp Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed in Parrott Cemetery. Mr. Dorrell was born Jan. 3, 1928, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Ralph M. Dorrell, Sr., and Elizabeth Grimsley Dorrell. He was a graduate of Williamsburg County schools and was retired plant manager for Pepsi Cola Bottling Co. in Kingstree. He was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church. Survivors are: four sons, Jack Dorrell, Barry Dorrell and Frank Dorrell, all of Kingstree, and Larry Dorrell of Albuquerque, New Mexico; two sisters, Imogene D. Hagwood of Orangeburg and Lizzie Dell McDonald of Kingstree; one brother, Archie L. Dorrell of Lexington; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
