Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com WILLIAM CANTEY, JR. -- William Corneilous "Billy" Cantey, Jr., 66, died Tues., Feb. 8, 2005, at his residence. Funeral services, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, were held Thurs., Feb. 10, 2005, in the Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Cantey was born Feb. 23, 1938, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late William C. Cantey, Sr., and Daisy Baylor Cantey. He was a farmer and a member of McDowell Presbyterian Church. He was a former member of the S.C. National Guard and was a former quail hunting guide. He was married to the late Sandra M. Cantey. Survivors are: two daughters, Teri C. Ward and Patti C. Patrick, both of Greeleyville; one son, Neil Cantey of Cades; two sisters, Elizabeth C. Perry of Columbia and Nina C. Bradley of Palm Harbor, Florida; and eight grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Tidelands Hospice in Georgetown.
GRACIE BROWN -- Funeral services for Mrs. Gracie Blake Brown, conducted by Rev. Sam B. Cooper and Rev. Donald F. Cole, were held Sat., Feb. 12, 2005, at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Marion Garden Memorial Garden in Salters. Mrs. Brown, 89, died Sat., Feb. 5, 2005, at the Lake Marion Nursing Facility in Summerton. She was born June 15, 1915, in Salters, a daughter of the late Moses and Annie Giles Blake. She was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. She was married to the late Rev. James E. Brown. Survivors are: three stepsons, Edward Brown, John Brown and James Brown, all of Buffalo, New York; one sister, Mrs. Rebecca Covert of Salters; one brother, Isaac Blake of Salters; and a host of step-grandchildren.
WILSON COKER -- Alvin Wilson Coker, 48, died Sat., Feb. 12, 2005, in an automobile accident. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Michael C. Bell, were held Mon., Feb. 14, 2005, in Kingstree United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Kingstree Memorial Gardens. Mr. Coker was born in Florence, a son of Marian Wilson Coker and the late Alvin Willard Coker. He was a graduate of Williamsburg Academy and Florence-Darlington Technical College and was the owner of Coker's Building Supply in Kingstree. He was a member of Kingstree United Methodist Church and an avid outdoorsman. Survivors, in addition to his mother of Kingstree, are: his wife, Elisa Evans Coker of Kingstree; children, Wil Coker and Amy Coker, both of Kingstree; and one sister, Becky C. Plowden of Kingstree. Memorials may be made to Kingstree United Methodist Church.
ROBERTA COKER -- Roberta Scurry Coker, 80, formerly of Lake City, died Sat., Feb. 12, 2005, at Britthaven of Newport. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. David Simmons, were held Mon., Feb. 14, 2005, at Calvary Baptist Church in Lake City. Burial, directed by Brockington Funeral Home, followed at Lake City Memorial Park. Mrs. Coker was born May 20, 1924, in Florence County, a daughter of the late Monroe and Maggie Parrott Scurry. She was the widow of Lemond Dudley Coker. She was a graduate of Lake City High School and with her husband operated the Sanitary Market in Lake City. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Survivors are: one daughter, Elaine Main of Pine Knoll Shores, North Carolina; one sister, Elizabeth Schneider of Charleston; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
LILLIE TURNER -- Funeral services for Mrs. Lillie Mae Turner, conducted by Rev. Richard McClary, were held Tues., Feb. 15, 2005, at Kennedyville United Methodist Church in Nesmith. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Kennedyville Cemetery. Mrs. Turner died Tues., Feb. 8, 2005, at Carolinas Hospital System-Florence. She was born Jan. 13, 1916, in Hemingway, a daughter of the late Pink Wright and Lessie Wright. She attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was a member of Kennedyville United Methodist Church. She was married to the late Sie Turner. Survivors are: four daughters, Violet Frazier of New Haven, Connecticut, Estelle Rice of Bronx, New York, and Elouise Sumpter and Lillie Ann McClary, both of Lane; five sons, James Turner and Thomas Lee Turner, both of Lane, John Turner of Kingstree, and Roy Lee Turner and Sie Turner, Jr., both of Lake City; one sister, Letha Brown of Wilmington, Delaware; three brothers, Benjamin Wright, Sarah Wright and Sonny Boy Wright, all of Hemingway; 54 grandchildren; a special granddaughter, Janet Sumpter of the home; 54 great-grandchildren; and a special great-granddaughter, Shanee Sumpter of the home.
SYBIL SWENSON -- Mrs. Sybil Epps Swenson, 83, died Wed., April 20, 2005, in a Florence hospital. Funeral services were held Fri., April 22, 2005, at the Lake City United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Brockington Funeral Home, followed at Lake City Memorial Park. Mrs. Swenson was born in Florence, a daughter of the late William Daniel and Ethel Fitch Epps of Cades. She was a graduate of Coker College and retired from the Florence County Schools as a teacher. She was married to the late Clayton E. Swenson. Mrs. Swenson was a long-time member of the Lake City Junior Sorosis Club. She was a member of the Lake City United Methodist Church, where she was a member of Circle #3 of the United Methodist Women. She served in various leadership positions including President of the United Methodist Women. Survivors are: one son, Clayton E. Swenson, Jr., of Durham, North Carolina; one daughter, Deborah S. McCartha of Columbia; one sister, Dena E. Hucks of Hartsville; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Memorials may be made to: Lake City United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 818, Lake City, South Carolina 29560.
JOSEPHINE McCOWN -- Funeral services for Mrs. Josephine J. McCown, conducted by Rev. William McNeil, were held Sun., April 24, 2005, at Hopewell A.M.E. Church in Hemingway. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Hopewell A.M.E. Church Cemetery. Mrs. McCown, 78, died Sun., April 17, 2005, at Branford Hospice in Bradford, Connecticut. She was born July 23, 1926, a daughter of the late Thomas Jones and Ellen Jones. She was married to the late Odell McCown. She was a member of Hopewell A.M.E. Church, where she sang on the church choir. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors are: one son, Richard McCown of Durham, North Carolina; one daughter, Mrs. Edna Jones of New Haven, Connecticut; three brothers, John S. Jones of Nesmith, Fred Jones of Georgetown and Freeman Jones of Durham, North Carolina; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
SOPHIA LAMBERT -- Sophia Skvarek Lambert, 62, died Wed., April 20, 2005, in a Columbia hospital. Funeral services were held Sat., April 23, 2005, at Sandy Bay Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Kingstree Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Lambert was born Nov. 21, 1942, in Greeleyville, a daughter of John and Victoria Ard Skvarek. She received her education in the Greeleyville schools and was a retired bookkeeper. She was a member of Sandy Bay Pentecostal Holiness Church. Survivors are: one daughter, Felicia Lambert of Columbia; and two brothers, Joe Skvarek and Albert Skvarek, both of Kingstree.
RAY EADDY -- Ray Carlton Eaddy, 61, died Fri., April 22, 2005, at his residence. Funeral services were held Sun., April 24, 2005, at Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Kingstree Memorial Gardens. Mr. Eaddy was born Oct. 25, 1943, in Kingstree, a son of the late Lloyd and Altha Douglas Eaddy. He was a graduate of Indiantown High School and served in the U.S. Army Military Police in Korea. Mr. Eaddy retired after 18 years in law enforcement and was the owner of Rayıs Flag Car Co. He was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church and the White Oak Hunting Club. Survivors are: his wife, Madge Springs Eaddy; two sons, Ray C. Eaddy, Jr., and Rudy Tisdale, II, both of Kingstree; three sisters, Mildred Huggins of Hemingway, Lottie Reardon of Kingstree and Wendy Hardy of Salters; one brother, Douglas Eaddy of Kingstree; and six grandchildren.
