Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com TISDALE -- George Edward Tisdale, 71, died Saturday, April 25, 1998, at his residence. Funeral services were held Monday, April 27, 1998, in the Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Tisdale Cemetery, where Last Rites were administered by Kingstree Masonic Lodge #46. Mr. Tisdale was born in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Lula Walters Tisdale and O.Z. Tisdale. He attended Kingstree schools and Williamsburg Technical College. He was a farmer and retired certified welder of Local 776. He was a member of Millwood Methodist Church, a life member of Kingstree Masonic Lodge #46, Scottish Rite in Charleston, and was a Noble of Omar Shrine. He was a member of the Red Barn Hunting Club. Survivors are: his wife, Edna B. Tisdale of Kingstree; one daughter, Gloria Tisdale Morris of Florence; two sons, George Randolph Tisdale of Kingstree; and Edward Rudy Tisdale of Florence; and three sisters, Mary Louis T. Teetor of Kingstree; Edna T. Evans of Pamplico; and Cornelia T. Smith of Andrews.
WOODS -- Funeral services for Willie Arthur Woods were held Sun., April 19, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Greeleyville, conducted by Rev. Bonus Miller. Burial followed in the church's cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Woods, 70, died Thursday, April 16, 1998, at Toumey Hospital in Sumter. He was born July 27, 1927, in Salters, a son of the late Laurie Woods and Elease McClary Woods. He was employed as a truck driver with the State Highway Department. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where he served on the Deacon Board and as a former member of the senior choir. He was a member of the Pride of Foreston Order of the Eastern Star #131. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Ida Mae Woods of the home; five sons, Willie Woods, Jr. of Atlanta, Ga.; John Arthur Woods of Greeleyville; Alphonso Woods of Fayetteville; Sammie Woods of Greeleyville; and Moses Woods of Kingstree; four daughters, Bernice Williams of Orangeburg; Mrs. Ernestine Nelson of Greeleyville; Dianne Coard of Salters; and Mrs. Janice Dozier of Greeleyville; one brother, Willie Roper of Winston Salem, N.C.; four sisters, Mrs. Roxie Mae Murray of New Haven, Conn.; Mrs. LaThonia Lee of Greeleyville; Mrs. Berthina McKnight of North Charleston; and Mrs. Mattie Mazyck of North Haven, Conn.
FULTON -- Funeral services for Richard Fulton were held April 25, 1998, at Siloam Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Francis Burrows. Burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Fulton, 67, died Monday, April 20, 1998, at Marion County Hospital in Marion. He was born March 12, 1931, a son of the late Phillip Fulton and Mrs. Ada Mullins Fulton. He was a member of Siloam Baptist Church and chairman of the Trustee Board. He was a farmer and was employed at Baxter Travenol for 21 years. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Murdie Fulton of Kingstree; two sons, Richard R. Fulton, Jr. and Perry Fulton, both of Columbia; one daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Patricia Fulton Diamond of Staten, Ill.; one brother, Willie Phillip Fulton of Kingstree; and four sisters, Mrs. Beatrice Fulton Morris, Mrs. Martha Fulton, Mrs. Ada Bell Gravel, Mrs. Glennie Fulton, all of Kingstree.
NELSON -- Funeral services for Mrs. Rectina Frazier Nelson were held Sunday, May 3, 1998, at St. Asia Baptist Church in Greeleyville, conducted by Rev. Amos Matthews. Burial followed in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Greeleyville, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Nelson, 92, died Thursday, April 30, 1998, at Carolinas Hospital System-Kingstree. She was born January 19, 1906, in Salters, a daughter of the late Rev. William Frazier and Susanna Ferrell Frazier. She was a member of St. Asia Baptist Church. She served as President of the Usher Board (53 years), President of the Missionary, member of the Jerusalem Missionary Women's Conventional (61 years), YMCA, Senior Citizens, also Mother of the St. Asia Baptist Church family. Survivors are: two daughters, Susan V. Nelson of East Orange, N.J., Pattie Tolliver of Washington, D.C.; and a grandson whom she reared as her own, Richard Nelson of the home.
ALSTON -- Funeral services for Joseph Alston, Sr. were held Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at the William N. Redmond Memorial Chapel in Kingstree, conducted by Rev. Francis Burrows. Burial followed in the Kingstree Cemetery in Kingstree directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mr. Alson died Friday, May 1, 1998, at his residence in Kingstree. He was born July 23, 1934, in Kingstree, a son of the late Robert and Rebecca Burgess Alston. He was a member of Siloam Baptist Church. He retired after working for 45 years at Drexel-Heritage. Survivors are: his wife, Catherine A. Alston of Kings-tree; five sons, George Alston of Charleston; Curtis Alston of Mt. Veron, N.Y.; Joseph Alston, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL; Wayne Alston of Kingstree; Kevin Alston of Jersey City, N.J.; and three daughters, Mrs. Joyce L. Kirk of Rock Hill, S.C.; Mrs. Natheria Moore and Margaret Alston, both of Kingstree.
LOVE -- Mrs. Hattie Mae Bowles Love, 88, died Saturday, May 2, 1998, in a Florence nursing facility. Funeral services were held Monday, May 4, 1998, in the Kingstree Second Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mrs. Love was born in Wiliamsburg County, a daughter of the late Bennie and Mary Ward Bowles. She was a home maker and retired farmer. She was a member of Kingstree Second Baptist Church, where she was involved with the WMU and the Sunday school program. Survivors are: one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy L. James of Hemingway; two sons, James R. Love of Kingstree and Joseph Love of Cades; and one sister, Mrs. Magdalene B. McClary of Lake City.
COKER -- Beatrice Floyd Coker, 79, widow of Ellerby Coker, died Wednesday, April 29, 1998, in a Kingstree hospital. Funeral services were held Friday, May 1, 1998, in the Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Camp Branch Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mrs. Coker was born in Clarendon County, a daughter of the late Israel S. and Sarah Jane Driggers Floyd. Survivors are: one daughter, Charlotte C. McGee of Kingstree; one son, David A. Coker of Kingstree; one brother, Kelly Floyd of Lake City; and two sisters, Otis Floyd of Lake City; and Lillie Coker of North Charleston.
JAMES -- Funeral services for Lewis Robinson James were held on May 9, 1998, at Church of God and True Holiness in Kingstree, conducted by Elder Pratt. Burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. James, 78, died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at Rochester General Hospital in Rochester, N.Y. He was born May 1919, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Mack James and Louise Murphy James. He was employed at Baxter Travenol Laboratories for over 15 years and was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Church of God and True Holiness. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Lannie Murphy James of Rochester, N.Y.; six sons, Fred Robinson James of Williamsport, PA; Chancey Lee James and Eugene James, both of Philadelphia, Pa.; Theron James and Riley R. James, both of Rochester, N.Y.; and Clyde Edward James of Philadelphia, Pa.; two daughters, Mrs. Catherine Hollaman of Philadelphia, Pa.; and Mrs. Alma Gause of Rochester, N.Y.; and two brothers, Rev. Simon James of Kingstree; and Willie James of Atlanta, Ga.
FRANCHINI -- Susie Mae Lewis Richardson Franchini, 74, died Sun., May 10, 1998, in a Columbia hospital. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 12, 1998, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Garden of Devotion Cemetery directed by Morris Funeral Home. Mrs. Franchini was born in Johnsonville, a daughter of the late William Osgood and Onie Grace Hughes Lewis. She was a graduate of Johnsonville High School, Columbia College and did post graduate work at Winthrop College. She was a retired school teacher and a member of First United Methodist Church of Hemingway. Survivors are: two sons, Grady Richardson of Hemingway; and Walter Richardson of Chapin; two daughters, Suzanne Holbrook of Cayce; and Sylvia Evans of Driftwood, Tx.; one brother, Olin Lewis of Hemingway; and two sisters, Vera Mitchum of Bonneau; and Claire Murray of Moncks Corner.
DRENNAN -- Services for Reverend Bernard Smith "Bishop" Drennan, 88, of Greenwood Methodist Home, were held Monday, May 11, 1998, at J.F. Floyd Mortuary, Greenlawn Chapel, Spartanburg, conducted by Rev. Robert Wofford and Dr. George Howle. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Spartanburg. Rev. Drennan died Friday, May 8, 1998, at his home. Born in Rock Hill, he was a son of the late Leonard Bernard and Lida Smith Drennan. A 1930 graduate of Wofford College, Rev. Drennan became an ordained minister in 1934. Appointments included churches in Rock Hill, Westminister, Clinton, Pickens, Graniteville, Inman, Woodruff, Denmark, Kingstree, Easley, Greenville, Fort Mill, Latta, Floydale and Golightly. He was minister emeritus of Grace United Methodist Church in Union. He served as The Conference director of evangelism; as a trustee of Orangeburg Methodist Home, the S.C. United Methodist Foundation and Columbia College. He received the Columbia College Medallion and membership into the James Milton Ariail Society in 1981. Rev. Drennan was very active in the communities he served, with Rotary and Lions clubs his main interest. He organized and was president of Pickens County Mental Health Association. He was named "Citizen of the Year" in Easley in 1964. He was first married to the late Nellie Hewitt of Spartanburg. Survivors are: his wife, Dorothy Henderson Godbold Drennan; two sons, John Bernard Drennan and Richard Argurs Drennan, both of Spartanburg; one daughter, Mrs. Betsy Gordon of Kingstree; one step-son, Thomas Marion Godbold, Jr. of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.; and one step daughter, LuAnn G. Haywood of Atlanta.
