Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com HYMAN -- J. Hubert Hyman, 67, died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, in a Florence hospital. Graveside funeral services were Friday, June 12, 1998, in the High Hill Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Hyman was born in Florence County, a son of the late James Hoyt Hyman and Mae Belk Hyman. He was a retired truck driver for H. D. Lee of Nashville, TN., and he was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Survivors are: one son, Kenneth H. Hyman of Timmonsville; one daughter, Cristie Fogg of Nashville, TN; three brother, A.F. "Tony" Hyman of Beaufort; W. R. "Bill" Hyman of Elgin; and Ray Hyman of Orange, TX.; and two sisters, Mr. Margie Love of Kingstree; and Mrs. Sally Mejia of Chino Hills, CA.
FYALL -- Funeral services for Mrs. Leola Fyall were held Saturday, June 13, 1998, at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Lane, conducted by Rev. C.C. Gordon. Burial followed in McKnight Cemetery in Lane by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Fyall, 89, died Monday, June 8, 1998, at Conway Nursing Home in Conway. She was born September 10, 190p8, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Bradford Morant and Dora Morant. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, she served as a member of the senior choir, Stewardess Board and Pastor's Aide Committee. She was also a member of Liberty Works O.E.S. Eastern Lodge No. 171 for 50 years.
COCHRAN -- Funeral services for PFC Kevin Draper Cochran were held Tuesday, June 16, 1998, at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Salters, conducted by Rev. C. W. Green. Burial followed in the family plot of the Porter-Ferrell Cemetery in Salters directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. PFC Cochran, 22, died Monday, June 8, 1998, at Scott and White Hospital in Temple, Texas. He was born May 26, 1976, to Mrs. Sarah Davis Cochran Woods and Herbert Cochran in Kingstree. He graduated in 1994 from Kingstree Senior High School. He was a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church where he was an usher and member of the choir. He served in the United States Army from October 4, 1994 until June 8, 1998. He received his Basic Combat Training at Ft. Jackson and Advance Individual Training at Ft. Gordon, Georgia. He served at Camp Carroll, Korea from 1995 to 1996 with the 307th Signal Battalion. He then joined the 57th Signal Battalion, Delta Company, in December of 1996. While at Ft. Hood, he was assigned to the Cable Section of Len Platoon. His rewards included the National Defense Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon and the Overseas Ribbon. Survivors, in addition to his mother of Salters, are: one daughter, Natasha Alexus Green-Cochran of Killen, TX; five brothers, Yale Cochran of Florence; Dale Cochran of Gary, IN; Kale Cochran, Detrick Cochran and Stacy Cochran, all of Salters; and two sisters, Tamaka Cochran and Shereka Woods, both of Salters.
CANADA -- Services for Irvin Shaw Canada, 85, were held Friday, June 19, 1998 in the Kingstree United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Dr. George Howle. Burial was in Williamsburg Cemetery, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Robert Arnette, Jeff Burgess, Archie Ward, Herbie Stackley, Edgar Baker and Gerald Mitchum. Honorary pallbearers were Dal Felkel, Dessie O¹Bryan, Wendell Brown, Dr. Howard Poston, Hal Kirven, Bill Yonce, Charles O¹Quinn, J. B Clarkson, Jr., Billy Gordon, Duane Shuler, and members of the Kiwanis Club. Mr. Canada was born in Maxton, NC, a son of the late Carrington Coleman Canada and Elizabeth Covington Canada. He was a member of the Kingstree United Methodist Church, where he served on the Official Board and building committee, and as Lay leader and District Lay Leader, and as Sunday School teacher for 40 years. He was a member and former president of the Kingstree Kiwanis Club and served as Lt. Governor of the Carolinas in 1962. He had perfect attendance for 40 years. In 1996, he was the recipient of the Hixon award, the highest honor of Kiwanis International. Mr. Canada was chairman of the S.C. Forestry board and on the advisory board of the SC Commission of Forestry. He was awarded his 50 year pin of the Kingstree Masonic Lodge #46. Mr. Canada will long be remembered as a civic, business and religious leader of Williamsburg County. He was a tree farmer and outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Vivian Player Canada of Kingstree; two sons, Clarence Coleman Canada of Camden and Joel Irvin Canada of Alpharetta, GA.
CONYERS -- Funeral services for Irvin Conyers were held Sat., June 20, 1998 at the New Friendship Freewill Baptist Church in Kingstree. Rev. Bernard Paige, Pastor officiated. The interment followed in Greenlawn Cemetery in Kingstree directed by Redmond-Richardson. Mr. Conyers, 65, died Monday, June 15, 1998 at Long Island College Hospital, Brooklyn, New York, after an illness. He was born March 12, 1933 in Kingstree, a son of the late Sherman and Emma Washington Conyers. He was an automobile body shop repairman at AA Ambulance Service. Survivors are: his wife, Betty Conyers; two daughters, Jerane Conyers of Little Ferry, NJ, Myrna Conyers of Brooklyn, NY; one son, Anthony Conyers of Central Islip, Long Island; three brothers, Sherman Conyers of Lawnside, NJ, James Conyers of Kingstree and the late Leverne Conyers.
GLOVER -- Funeral services for Mrs. Linda Green Glover were held on Friday, June 19, 1998 at Mt. Sinai Church of Deliverance #1 in Charleston, S.C. Interment followed in Charity Baptist Church Cemetery in Salters S.C. Mrs. Glover, 41, died Sunday, June 13, 1998 at Charleston Memorial Hospital in Charles-ton, S.C. She was born October 29, 1956 in Williamsburg County, a daughter of Mrs. Ida Mae Beasley Green and the late Mr. John W. Green. Mrs. Glover was employed as a lab technician. She was a former member of Full Gospel Word and Worship Center in Columbia, SC and she attended Restoration Church in Charleston. Survivors are her husband, Isiah Wayne Glover of Charleston, SC; five daughters, Melanie Glover Manning of Warner Robins, GA, Izetta Glover of Charleston, SC, Linda Glover, Gena Glover and Krystal Glover, all of Andrews, SC; her mother, Mrs. Ida M. Green of Andrews, SC; two sisters, Mrs. Brenda Jones of Charleston, SC and Mrs. Willia Glover of Andrews, SC; and one brother, Timothy Green of Andrews, SC.
RIGBY -- William Joseph (Bill) Rigby, 66, died Monday, June 22, 1998, in a Charleston hospital. Funeral services were held June 25, 1998, in the Kingstree United Methodist Church. Burial followed in Kingstree Memorial Gardens directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mr. Rigby was born in Kingstree, a son of the late Alphonso James Rigby, Sr. and Sara Nunnally Rigby. He was a graduate of Kingstree High School and attended Tri-State University in Angola, IN. He was President of Power Supply, Inc. in Matthews, N.C. and President of Kingstree Inn, Inc. He was a member of Kingstree United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge #46, AFM, the Omar Shrine, the Sons of the Confederacy, and an Air Force veteran. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Ora Lee Parsons Rigby of Kingstree; two daughters, Mary R. Sanders of Mt. Pleasant; and Leigh R. Wilkins of Columbia; and three brothers, A.J. Rigby, Jr. of Kingstree; Jesse Rigby of Georgetown; and George H. Rigby of Dayton, Ohio.
WHIELDON -- Joe E. Whieldon, Sr., 82, widower of Grace Harrington Whieldon, died Saturday, June 27, 1998, in the Tuomey Healthcare System in Sumter. Funeral services were held June 29, 1998, in the Stephens Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Rev. Melvin Sargent. Burial followed in the Lake City Memorial Gardens in Lake City. Born in Grove City, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Charles E. Whieldon, Sr. and the late Leona Buchanan Whieldon. He owned and operated a service station and Greyhound bus station in Kingstree and retired as an officer with the S.C. Dept. of Corrections. He was a World War II Navy veteran, and a member of the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church in Kingstree. Survivors are: two daughters, Nancy W. Peeples of Lexington; and Jane Whieldon of Myrtle Beach.
SCOTT -- Funeral services for Minnie Louise Scott were held June 29, 1998, at the Saint John Apostolic Holiness Church in Greeleyville, conducted by Bishop Kenneth J. Swaringer and Bishop Alex Palmer, Jr. Burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery in Kingstree directed by Redmond-Richardson. Ms. Scott, daughter of Evangelist Victoria Scott Washington and Junious Miller, was born June 30, 1953, in Kingstree. She graduated from Tomlinson High School in 1971. She was a member of Saint James Apostolic Holiness Church where she served as church secretary and Sunday school teacher. She was employed by Kingstree Forestry and the Hammonds. Survivors, in addition to her parents of Kingstree, are: one son, Lineal M. Scott of the home; one daughter, Victoria M. Scott of the home; two brothers, James Scott of Kingstree; and William Scott of Baltimore, Md.; three sisters, Mrs. Jeanette Durant of Greeleyville; Sandra Scott of Kingstree; and Alberta Grayson of Cades; and five step-brothers, Ernest Miller and Joseph Miller, both of Kingstree; Robert Miller of Atlanta, Ga.; Tom Miller of Bronx, N.Y.; and Frankie Miller of Salters.
HENRYHAND -- Funeral services for Rev. David (Silas) Henryhand were held on Tuesday, June 23, 1998, at Ranzie Grove Baptist Church in Salters, conducted by Rev. Herman Gibson. Burial followed in the Smith-Cooper Memorial Cemetery directed by Henryhand Funeral Home. Mr. Henryhand died Friday, June 19, 1998, at Carolinas Hospital System-Florence. He was born June 7, 1921, in Trio, a son of the late Edward and Betty M. Henryhand. He was a member of Ranzie Grove Baptist Church, where he served as the Assistant Pastor. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Florence W. Henryhand of the home; two sons, David Henryhand, Jr., James L. Henryhand, both of New York City; five daughters, Viola Hemingway of Longs, S.C.; Joyce Livingston of Salters; Janet Griffen of St. Stephen; Queen E. Brown of Salters; and Betty Singletary of Lanchester, Pa; one adopted daughter, Mary A. Bettard; four grandchildren he raised as his own, Kimerly, Yolanda, Thane and Dawn Livingston; two brothers, Rev. Charles Henryhand and Earnest Nesmith, both of Salters; and three sisters, Louise McFadden of Philadelphia, Pa.; Janet Morris of Trio; and Francis McCrea of Andrews.
