Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com BAKER -- Mrs. Ina Mae O. Baker, 69, widow of Thurman W. Baker, died Friday, July 17, 1998, at home. Funeral services were held Sunday, July 19, 1998, in the Hebron Independent Church. Burial followed in the Hebron United Methodist church Cemetery directed by Brockington Funeral Home. Mrs. Baker was born in the Vox Community, a daughter of the late James Ottly Owens and Missouri Eaddy Owens. She was a graduate of Hebron High School and retired from the Williamsburg County School System. She was a member of Hebron Independent Church and the Ladies Society Morning Prayer Hour Host. Survivors are: one daughter, Nancy B. Lee of Turbeville; two sons, Ray D. Baker of Summerton; and G. Lauren Baker of Darlington; and three sisters, Mrs. Robert Huckaby of Florence; Mrs. Marvin Rodgers of Lake City; and Mrs. Sam Lee of Georgetown.
SIGLER -- Dr. Leon Sigler, 58, died Sunday, July 19, 1998, at his residence. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 21, 1998, in Kingstree First Baptist Church. Burial followed in Beth Or Cemetery in Kingstree directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Dr. Sigler was born in Stamford, Conn., a son of the late Murray and Kate Hoch Sigler. He was a graduate of Stamford High School and Palmer College of Chiropractic in Iowa. He was a member of the S.C. Chiropractic Association and the American Chiropractic Association. He was a former member of the S.C. Board of Chiropractic Examiners and served on the Board of Directors of the S.C. Chiropractic Association. Dr. Sigler was a member of the Presidentıs Club and the Presidential Advisory Board of Palmer College. He was the owner of Kingstree Chiropractic Clinic, P.A. and a member of Temple Beth Or in Kingstree. Survivors are: his wife, Wanda Cannon Sigler; three daughters, Dr. Lisa Sigler of Belton; Lori Sigler-Murray of Columbia; and Katherine Sigler of Kingstree; one sister, Mrs. Cyvia S. Cohen of Norwalk, Conn. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joel Sigler. Memorials may be made to Temple Beth Or or Hospice of Williamsburg.
PEARCE -- Thomas Everette Pearce, 86, died Monday, July 20, 1998, in Kingstree. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 21, 1998, in Salters Methodist Cemetery directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mr. Pearce was born in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Oliver B. and Mable China Hudnal Pearce. He was a graduate of Florence County schools and of Kansas City School of Watchmaking, with a degree in watch and jewelry making. He retired in 1994 from Kellahan and Associates as a structural engineering draftsman. He served in War World II as a Navy Chief and before the war in the Marines as a musician. He was a member of Kingstree United Methodist Church. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Annie Hodge Pearce; one sister, Mable Anderson of Cheraw; and four brothers, Albert C. Pierce, James Pierce and Charles Ira Pierce, all of Cheraw; and Rev. William Woodrow Pierce of Laurinburg, N.C.
MENTION -- Funeral services for James Mention, Jr. were held Sat., July 25, at Good Hope A.M.E. Church in Hemingway, conducted by Rev. McNeil Evans. Burial followed in Hopewell A.M.E. Church Cemetery in Hemingway directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Mention, 54, died Monday, July 20, 1998, in Georgetown County Memorial Hospital. He was born April 17, 1944, a son of Mrs. Corine Gordon Mention and the late Harry Mention. He was a member of Hopewell A.M.E. Church. He was employed as a farmer. Survivors, in addition to his mother of Hemingway, are: threes sons, James A. Mention, William Mention and Keith Mention, all of Hemingway; two daughters, Mrs. Beverly Cuttino and Larissa Mention, both of Hemingway; four brothers, Isaac Mention, Joseph Mention, Gerald Mention, all of Hemingway; and Ricky Mention of Johnsonville; and three sisters, Mrs. Catherlean Lewis, Mrs. Shirley Plamer and Mrs. Marie Williams, all of Hemingway.
SHAW -- Funeral services for Mrs. Marie Williams Shaw were held Sunday, July 26, 1998, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Kingstree, conducted by Rev. Frank V. James. Burial followed in the family plot of the churchyard cemetery directed by Redmond-Richardson. Mrs. Shaw, 83, died Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at the Carolinas Hospital System-Kingstree. She was born August 3, 1915, in Lane, the daughter of the late Titus Williams, Sr. and Cinda Plowden Williams. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women. Survivors are: eight children, Samuel Shaw of Jacksonville, FL; Willie Shaw and Tyrone Shaw, both of Hollandale, FL; Mrs. Margaret Brown of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Mrs. Mozell S. Gant and Harry Shaw, both of the home; Deloris Jones and Mrs. Sylvia McCrea, both of Kingstree.
FULTON -- Funeral services for Mrs. Louchelle White Fulton were held Thursday, July 23, 1998, at Jerusalem United Methodist Church in Salters, conducted by Rev. Rufus Snowden. Burial followed in Marion Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Salters directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Fulton, 22, died Monday, July 20, 1998, at Georgetown County Memorial Hospital. She was born Sept. 6, 1975, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of Mickey Sabb and Priscilla White. She was a member of Jerusalem United Methodist Church and was a member of the church choir. Survivors, in addition to her parents, are: her husband, Leonard Fulton of Salters; three sons, Leonard Travis Fulton, Jazwann Raekwon Fulton and Andre White, all of Salters; her grandparents, Mrs. Earline Sabb and Joe Sabb of Salters; two brothers, Lecotten White and Jaron White, both of Salters; two sisters, Mrs. Linette Sanders of Conway; and Mrs. Toria White of Salters; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Deacon Abraham and Laura McCrea of Salters.
WASHINGTON -- Funeral services for Mrs. Thewoflar Wright Washington were held Thursday, July 23, 1998, at Bethlehem A.M.E. Church in Hemingway, conducted by Rev. James Chatman. Burial followed in the church's cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers. Mrs. Washington, 74, died Wed., July 15, 1998, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital. She was born May 20, 1924, in Georgetown, a daughter of the late John Wright and Celia Grey Wright. She was the widow of Salters Washington. She was a member of Bethlehem A.M.E. Church, where she served as a Missionary and a Stewardess. She was also a member of the Home Charity Lodge No. 19. Survivors are: nine children, Mrs. Collie Isom and Mrs. Mary Francis Garvin, both of Bronx, N.Y.; Mrs. Frank Wright of Middletown, Conn.; Velma Washington of Conn.; Mrs. Vera Gordon of New Haven, Conn.; Hazel Washington of Hemingway; Clayton Washington of Middletown, Conn.; Daniel Washington and Donald Washington, both of Meridian, Conn.; two grandsons she reared as her own, Kelvin Washington and Kendall Washington, both of Hemingway; two brothers, Earnest Wright and John Wright, both of Washington, D.C.; and four sisters, Mrs. Elise Legette of Hemingway; Mrs. Gladys Vision and Mrs. Mazine Bell, both of Washington, D.C.; and Mrs. Ruthena Hilton of Middletown, Conn.
POWELL -- Curtis M. Powell, 78, died Saturday, August 1, 1998, in a Florence hospital. Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 3, 1998, in Broad Swamp Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial followed in Sandy Bay Cemetery directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mr. Powell was born in Williamsburg County, a son of the late H. Leland Powell, Sr. and Mattie Coker Powell. He was a retired finish carpenter. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a member of Broad Swamp Pentecostal Holiness Church and the V.F.W. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Ollie Sheppard Powell of Kingstree; one son, C. Mike Powell of Kingstree; two daughters, Mattie P. Burgess of Kingstree; and Diane P. Altman of Pawleys Island; two brothers, H. Leland Powell, Jr. and Joe B. Powell, both of Kingstree; and one sister, Mary P. McKenzie of Kingstree.
QUATTLEBAUM -- Drayton R. Quattlebaum, 78, died Saturday, August 1, 1998, in a Kingstree hospital. Funeral services were held Monday, August 3, 1998, in the Kingstree First Baptist Church. Burial followed in Kingstree Memorial Garden directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mr. Quattlebaum was born July 7, 1920, in Williston, S.C., a son of the late Milton and Daisy Rushton Quattlebaum. He served in the Navy Submarine Service and was a veteran of World War II in the Pacific theater. He was retired and was an active member of the Kingstree First Baptist Church. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Ona Wise Quattlebaum of Kingstree; two daughters, Dianne Q. Brown of Augusta, Ga. and Kathleen Q. Pippin of Fayetteville, N.C.; one sister, Maxine Baxley of Kingstree; and one brother, Conrad Quattlebaum of Rock Hill, S.C.
TISDALE -- Miss Wilhelmina Tisdale, 83, died Saturday, August 1, 1998, in a Charleston hospital. Graveside funeral services were held Monday, August 3, 1998, in Tisdale Cemetery directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Miss Tisdale was born in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late John James (Dan) Tisdale and Agnes Jane (Janie) Strong Tisdale. She was a graduate of Kingstree High School and a retired farmer. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church and the WIC of the church. Survivors are: one sister, Othell (Tizzie) Smoak of Charleston; and one brother, Lloyd Guinn Tisdale of Kingstree.
