Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com BOUCHETTE -- Leatha Morris Bouchette, 75, died August 2, at the Medical University of S.C. in Charleston. Funeral services were held Tues., Aug. 4, 1998, at Happy Home Original Free Will Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Earl Bittle and Rev. Murray W. Powell. Burial followed at Elim United Methodist Churchyard directed by Andrews Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home. Mrs. Bouchette was born Sept. 6, 1922, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late William James "Jim" Benjamin Morris and Elizabeth Anne Fulton Morris. She was the widow of Garland Andrew Bouchette. She attended Happy Home Original Free Will Baptist Church. Survivors are: two sons, Etsel G. Bouchette of Andrews; and Tommy Bouchette of Pawley's Island; two daughters, Debbie B. Tedder and Jimmie Faye B. Reed, both of Andrews; two brothers, James A. Morris of Andrews; and Mack O. Morris of Gatesville, Tx.; and one sister, Sallie M. Smith of Georgetown.
HIGGINS -- Funeral services for John "Crisp" Higgins, Jr. were held Saturday, August 8, 1998, at the William N. Redmond Memorial Chapel in Kingstree, conducted by Elder Wardell Fulmore. Burial followed in the family plot of the Porter-Ferrell Cemetery in Salters directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mr. Higgins, 33, died Friday, July 31, 1998, at the Logs Island College Hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was born June 7, 1965, in Williamsburg County, the son of the late John Higgins, Sr. and Alberta McKnight Higgins. He graduated from the public schools of Brooklyn, N.Y. Survivors: three daughters, Maria Higgins, Victoria Gondolas and Cathy Gonzales, all of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sisters, Emma Lee Higgins of Salters; and Lagena Higgins of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one brother, Robert Bradley of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and maternal grandparents, Mrs. Emma McKnight Bradley of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and George Woods of New Haven, Ct.
MITCHELL -- Brooks Lovett Mitchell, 86, widow of Thomas P. Mitchell, died Friday, August 7, 1998, in the New Hanover Hospital in Wilmington, N.C. Funeral services were held Sunday, August 9, 1998, in the Indiantown Presbyterian Church, conducted by Dr. William J. Holmes. Burial followed in the church cemetery directed by Stephens Funeral Home. Born in Kingstree, she was a daughter of the late George James Lovett and the late Hessie Graham Lovett. She was a retired nurse, a member of Indiantown Presbyterian Church, and a graduate of Bakers Nursing School in Charleston. Survivors are: four daughters, Gayle Mitchell Thompson of Indiantown; Ann Mitchell English of Manning; Lucia Mitchell Epps of Atlanta, Ga.; and Darlene Mitchell Craig of Wilmington; and one brother, James F. Lovett of Raleigh.
DAVIS -- Maude Williams Davis, 79, died Mon., August 3, 1998. Funeral services were held Wed. in Union Presbyterian Church with burial in the church cemetery. Miss Davis was born in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late James C. and Essie Lifrage Davis. She was a retired employee of Royal Dry Cleaners in Kingstree and a member of Union Presbyterian Church. Survivors: two sisters, Christine D. Andrews and Esther D. Tisdale, both of Salters.
HILL -- Mrs. Jacqueline W. Hill, 73, wife of Kemper E. "Bubba" Hill, died Friday, August 7, 1998. Graveside funeral services were held August 10, 1998, in the Graham Cemetery in Cades. Mrs. Hill was born in Lake City, a daughter of the late John Shelton Wilson and Kizzie Jordan Wilson Fitch. She was a member of Cades United Methodist Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Survivors are: her husband: one daughter, Mrs. Charles B. James of Sumter; one son, Kemper E. Hill, III of South Daytona, Fl.; and two brothers, T. Donald Wilson and W. Vahl Wilson, of Spartanburg.
WARD -- Beatrice A. Ward, 84, died Sun., August 9, 1998. Funeral services were held Aug. 11, in Cedar Swamp United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Miss Ward was born in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Robert Franklin and Catherine Alma Hanna Ward. She worked as a bookkeeper in the tobacco markets from Kingstree to Virginia, and was a former secretary at the First Baptist Church in Kingstree. She was a member of Cedar Swamp United Methodist Church. Survivors are: two sisters, Mrs. Winnie W. Brown and Mrs. Lemyra W. Kellahan, both of Kingstree; and one brother, Franklin Ward of Kingstree.
MCCLARY -- Funeral services for Major (Ret.) William Ronald McClary, 46, were held Wednesday, August 19, 1998, in the Apostolic Faith Mission Holiness Church in Kingstree, conducted by Rev. Isaac Davis. Burial followed in the Greenlawn Cemetery directed by Kingstree Funeral Home. Mr. McClary died Tuesday, August 11, 1998, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was born March 2, 1952, in Williamsburg County, a son of Rev. William McClary and Ruth Naomi McClary. He graduated from Tomlinson High School in 1970 as class valedictorian. He received his undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Louisville, Louisville, Kentucky and a masters degree from Central Michigan University in business. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1995. Survivors, in addition to his parents, are: his wife, Mrs. Linda McClary of Albuquerque, New Mexico; two children, William Anastauis McClary and Kimyatta McClary, both of Albuquerque, New Mexico; two brothers, Lt. Col. Ricky J. McClary of Woodbridge, Va.; and Louis McClary of Kingstree; and two sisters, Annie Mae McClary-Glover of Columbia; and Mrs. Phyllis Marie Cunningham.
GIBSON -- Funeral services for Mrs. Lelia Mae Conyers Gibson were held August 25, 1998, at St. John 4-B Baptist Church in Greeleyville, conducted by Rev. Jimmy Brockington. Burial followed in Keels Cemetery. Mrs. Gibson, 73, died August 20, 1998, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. She was born Oct. 22, 1924, in Greeleyville, a daughter of the late Fred Conyers and Lou Thomas. She was a former employee of Gordon Developmental Center. She was a member of St. John 4-B Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Senior Choir, and the Senior Usher Board. Survivors are: her husband, Samuel Gibson of Greeleyville; three sons, Charles Gibson of Newark, N.J.; Larry Gibson of Greeleyville; and Jhue Williams of Detroit, Michigan; three daughters, Mrs. Gwen Bison-Henderson of Blythewood, S.C.; Timmie Gibson of Columbia; and Mrs. Cheryl Gibson West of Kingstree; two brothers, Willie Conyers and Lee Conyers, both of Troy, N.Y.; and one sister, Mrs. Martha Gamble of Troy, N.Y.
ARD -- Funeral services for Carl L. "Buck" Ard, 67, the son of the late M. H. "Tootie" Ard and Sally Ridgil White, were held Mon., Aug. 17, 1998, from the graveside at Greenlawn Cemetery with Rev. Wilford McCormick of Harvest Baptist Church. Mr. Ard was born April 15, 1931, in Lamar, S.C. He died Friday, August 14, 1998, in a local hospital. He was a Korean Conflict veteran, serving in the United States Marine Corps and was a general contractor. Survivors are: his wife, Lula D. Ard; sons, Carl Dale, Mark Howard, Robert Eric, all of Jacksonville; and Cole Austin, of Starke; and four sisters, Reba Haller of Union, OH; Pat Hanniford Brown of Manning; Betty Spence of Jacksonville; and Judy Mishoe of Myrtle Beach.
DAVIS -- Funeral services for Dr. Solomon "Franklin" Davis were held Sat., Aug. 22, 1998, at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Lane, conducted by Rev. C. C. Gordon. Burial followed in Cowhead Cemetery directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Dr. Davis, 50, died Monday, August 17, 1998, at Highland General Hospital in Oakland, CA. He was born March 23, 1948, in Salters, the son of Rev. Bonus Miller and Fannie Davis McClorin. He graduated from Williamsburg Training School (C.E. Murray High) and from Morgan State University and the University of Michigan and the University of San Francisco. He was employed at Holy Names College in Oakland, CA. Survivors, in addition to his parents, are: eight brothers, Henry McClorin and Kenneth McClorin, both of Jersey City, NJ; Willie Lee McClorin of Lane; Marvin Kelty, Abraham Kelty, William Kelty, Christopher and Julius Kelty; and seven sisters, Mrs. Christine Noland of Philadelphia, Pa.; Jannie Dukes, Cynthia McClorin and Lavetta McClorin, all of Lane; Carolyn McClorin of Jersey City, NJ; and Sheila Kelty of Columbia.
