Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com WHITE -- Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Moore White were held Saturday, September 5, 1998, at Mt. Beulah United Methodist Church in Lake City, conducted by Rev. Terry J. Barrett. Burial followed in the family plot of Rest Lawn Cemetery in Lake City directed by Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home. Mrs. White, 72, died Sunday, August 30, 1998, at her residence in Queens, New York. She was born August 8, 1926, in Dry Branch, Georgia, a daughter of the late Charlie and Martha Orimton Moore. She was a member of Community Baptist Church in South Ozone Park, New York where she served as treasurer for the Gospel Choir and sang with them. She attended and financially supported Mt. Beulah United Methodist Church during her visits home several times a year. Survivors are: her husband, Samuel White of the home; and two brothers, Charlie Moore and Oscar Moore of Detroit, MI.
SMITH -- Funeral services for Mrs. Mariah Washington Murrell Smith were held Saturday, September 5, 1998, at St. James A.M.E. Church in Gourdine, conducted by Rev. Jerome Wilson. Burial followed in St. James A.M.E. Church Cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Smith, 76, died Sunday, August 30, 1998, at Kessler Memorial Hospital in Hammonton, New Jersey. She was born October 12, 1921, in St. Stephens, a daughter of the late Rufus Washington and Ella Washington. She was raised by the late Mary and Alphonso Brunson. She was employed by the Philadelphia School Board. She was a member of Allen United Methodist Church. Survivors are: four sons, Raymond Murrell, Clarence Murrell, Fredrick Murrell and James Murrell, all of South Philadelphia, PA; and two daughters, Mrs. Mary Francis Cureton of Sewell, NJ and Mrs. Deloris Chisom of South Philadelphia, PA.
RAGINS -- Funeral services for David Ragins were held Friday, September 4, 1998, at Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home Chapel, in Kingstree, conducted by Rev. Bonus Miller. Burial followed in Cowhead Cemetery in Gourdine directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Ragins, 44, died Saturday, August 30, 1998, at Carolinas Hospital System-Kings-tree. He was born September 28, 1953, in Gourdine, a son of the late John Ragins and Relia Ragins. He was employed as a maintenance worker in Greeleyville. He was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church. Survivors are: three sisters, Mary Coy Ragins, Mrs. Sarah Miller and Hattie Ragins, all of Greeleyville; and one brother, Charlie Ragins of Columbia.
PARKER -- Funeral services for Mrs. Adrana Parker were held Wednesday, September 9, 1998, at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Gourdine, conducted by Rev. C.C. Gordon. Burial followed in Cowhead Cemetery in Gourdine directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Parker, 83, died Wednesday, September 2, 1998, at Ron McNair Nursing Home in Lake City. She was born September 16, 1914, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Lee Vannien Parson and Fannie Miller Parson. She was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church. She was a member of Lillie White Chapter #349 Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors are: one daughter, Anna Lee Williams of Niles, Ohio; two sons, Sylvester Parker of Clearwater, Fla.; and David Parker of Buffalo, N.Y.; one grandson reared as her own, Brandi Mack of Australia; one sister, Siller Johnson of Niles, OH; and one like a son, Rev. Oneal Miller of Salters.
SMITH -- Funeral services for Mrs. Hanna Tisdale Smith were held Sunday, September 13, 1998, at St. Michael United Methodist Church. Burial followed in St. Michael United Methodist Church Cemetery in Kingstree directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Smith, 82, died Wednesday, September 9, 1998, at Carolinas Hospital System-Kingstree. She was born April 16, 1916, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late John Tisdale and Eliza Burrows Tisdale. She was a member of St. Michael United Methodist Church. Survivors are: one daughter, Patricia Staten of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and one sister, Mrs. Virginia Steel of Rochester, N.Y.
VEREEN -- Ruthel Hartford Vereen, Jr., 62, died Thursday, September 17, 1998, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston from injuries received in a motor vehicle accident. Funeral services were held Saturday, September 19, 1998, at Wampee Baptist Church. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Cemetery directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Cha-pel. Mr. Vereen was born in Horry County, a son of the late Ruthel Hartford Vereen, Sr. and Laureta Jones Vereen. He was a member of Wampee Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a lieutenant with South Carolina Highway Patrol where he worked for 30 years. Prior to retirement, he was a plant manager for Vereen's Fertilizer Company in Kingstree. Survivors are: one son, Mike Vereen of Summerville; two daughters, Shella Francesconi of Palm Bay, FL; and Melissa Vereen of Jacksonville, FL; two brothers, Max Vereen and Frankie Vereen, both of Longs; and three sisters, Albertine Livingston of Beaufort; Doris McDaniels and Cathy Spivey, both of Charleston.
BROWN -- Funeral services for Rosa Anne Brown were held Saturday, September 19, 1998, at Evangelistic Temple Way of the Cross Church in Kingstree, conducted by Bishop Roosevelt Fulton. Burial followed in the family plot of Crossroads Cemetery in Salters directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Ms. Brown, 45, died Sunday, September 13, 1998, at her residence in Kingstree. She was born May 14, 1952, in Greeleyville, daughter of the late John Wesley Brown, Sr. and Rosa Lee Nelson Brown. She was employed as a dietitian at Baxter Pharmaceutical, Inc. She was a member of Brown's Chapel Holiness Church, where she sang on the choir. Survivors are: her companion, Joseph Chandler of the home; two sons, Carlos Brown of New Haven, CT; and Erron X. Chandler of the home; three daughters, Sharon R. Brown of Boston, MA; Cynthia L. Brown of New Haven, CT; and Mrs. Nicole L. Darby of Kingstree; two brothers, Johnnie Lee Brown of Kingstree; and Otis Nelson of Washington, DC; two sisters, Sytyrah A. Brown and Mrs. Dorothy Brown, both of Kingstree; and her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Lula Brown of Kingstree.
COOPER -- Funeral services for William Tom Cooper were held Friday, September 18, 1998, at Bethesda United Methodist Church in Kingstree, conducted by Rev. Hayes T. Gainey. Burial followed in Dr. James Cemetery in Nesmith directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Cooper, 78, died Monday, September 14, 1998, in his home in Kingstree. He was born September 5, 1920, in Williamsburg County, a son of Rosa Washington Cooper and the late Hughie Cooper. He was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church. He was a member of Steward United Methodist Men. He was a member of the Prospect Lodge Masonic Lodge #404. He was employed by Baxter Travenol Laboratory for 21 years. Survivors, in addition to his mother of Lake City, are: his wife, Mrs. Flora Cooper of Kingstree; one son; two daughters, Mrs. Jo-Ella Ferrell and Mrs. Tomasena Huntley, both of Charlotte, N.C.; and one brother, Sam Cooper of Kingstree.
BRADSHAW -- Funeral services for Mrs. Evelyn Carraway Bradshaw were held Saturday, September 19, 1998, at North Kingstree Baptist Church in Kingstree, conducted by Rev. Sandy McCrea. Burial followed in Crossroad Cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Bradshaw, 73, died Friday, September 11, 1998, at home. She was born June 10, 1925, in Salters, a daughter of the late James Carraway and Annie Carraway. She was a member of North Kingstree Baptist Church. Survivors are: one son, Joseph Bradshaw of Coward; one daughter, Mrs. Gloria Burgess of Kingstree; and two sisters, Mrs. Rose M. Staggers of New Haven, CT; and Mrs. Ollie Rea Wright of Washington, D.C.
GAMBLE -- Funeral services for Isaac Gamble were held Friday, September 18, 1998, at Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home Chapel in Kingstree, conducted by Elder Linwood Cooper. Burial followed in Kingstree Cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Gamble, 67, died Saturday, September 12, 1998, at Carolinas Hospital System-Florence. He was born May 2, 1931, in Kingstree, a son of the late Isaac Dodge Gamble and Bell Strong Gamble. Survivors are: one sister, Margarett Gamble of Kingstree; and one brother, Jimmy Gamble of Kingstree.
