Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com MYERS -- Naomi "Nell" Horne Myers, 62, died Saturday, September 19, 1998, at MUSC in Charleston. Funeral services were held Monday, September 21, 1998, in the Stephens Funeral Home Chapel in Manning, conducted by Rev. Ken Timmerman. Burial followed in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Greeleyville. Born April 20, 1936, in Loris, she was a daughter of the late John Hobson Horne and the late Elizabeth Bullard Horne. She was retired vice president and co-owner of Mishoe Oil Company and was a member of the Greeleyville United Methodist Church. Survivors are: her husband, Newell Aubrey Myers of Greeleyville; one daughter, Dawn Still of Manning; one son, Newell A. "Bo" Myers, Jr. of Columbia; and one sister, Rebecca Johnson of Loris. Pallbearers were Dean McKnight, H. K. Heins, Frank Oliver, Jack Oliver, Neil Mishoe and Leonard Jonte.
SMITH -- Funeral services for Mrs. Hanna Tisdale Smith were held Sunday, September 13, 1998, at St. Michael United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the churchyard cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Smith died Wednesday, September 9, in Carolinas Hospital System-Kingstree. She was born April 16, 1916, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late John Tisdale and Liza Burrows Tisdale. She was a member of St. Michael United Methodist Chruch in Kingstree. Survivors are: one daughter, Patricia Staten of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and one sister, Virginia Steele of Rochester, N.Y.
ATKINSON -- Dr. Robert Edward "Ed" Atkinson, 72, died Monday, September 7, 1998, in Carolinas Hospital System-Kingstree from complications of a stoke he suffered in 1985. Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 9, 1998, in Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in Williamsburg Cemetery directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Dr. Atkinson was born May 6, 1926, in Morgan County, Ga., the son of Alexander Wellington Atkinson and Ruby Gillen Atkinson. He attended the public schools in Morgan County and the University of Georgia in Athens where he earned the degree of doctor of veterinary medicine. During World War II, he volunteered for military duty and served in China-Burma-Indian theater. Dr. Atkinson established a veterinary clinic in Kingstree where he practiced until disabled in 1985. He was active in the affairs of his community, his profession and of his church. He served as deacon and elder of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, president of the South Carolina Veterinary Association, the Kingstree Lions Club, the Williamsburg Academy Athletic Association, as a director of the Exchange Bank of South Carolina and the Williamsburg Packing Co. Survivors are: his wife, Mickey McIntosh Atkinson of Kingstree; three children, Robert E. Atkinson, Jr. of Tallahassee, Fla.; Louise Atkinson Witherspoon of Ankeny, Iowa; and Dr. Ernest McIntosh Atkinson of Kingstree.
WASHINGTON -- Funeral services for Rev. Ellen McDonald Washington were held September 19, 1998, at Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church in Salters, conducted by Rev. S. A. Green. Burial followed in the family plot of the Salters Cemetery directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Rev. Washington, 84, died Sept. 15, 1998, at the Ronald McNair Memorial Nursing Center in Lake City. She was born August 24, 1914, in Salters, a daughter of the late John Arthur McDonald, Sr. and Ellen Green McDonald. In her youth, she was reared by her uncle, Frank Green. She studied nursing in New York City, NY. She was a member of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church. She was employed as a nurse in several different New York hospitals.
FULMORE -- Funeral services for Larry Gene Fulmore were held Saturday, September 26, 1998, at Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home Chapel in Kingstree. Burial followed in Hopewell A.M.E. Churchyard Cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Fulmore, 62, died Wednesday, September 23, 1998, in North Charleston. He was born June 21, 1938, in Hemingway, a son of the late Willie Holland Fulmore and Fannie Flagler Fulmore. He was employed as a barber. Survivors are: four sisters, Mrs. Annie Williams of Charleston; Mrs. Edith Coles, Mrs. Jerrie Houston and Mrs. Barbara Demery, all of Hemingway; and four brothers, Willie Fulmore and Michael Fulmore, both of Hemingway; Joseph Fulmore of Tampa, Fla.; and Howard Gause of Charleston.
WASHINGTON -- Funeral services for Thomas Ben Washington were held Friday, September 25, 1998, at Antioch Baptist Church in Kingstree, conducted by Rev. Talbert Dickson. Burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery in Kingstree directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Washington, 85, died Friday, September 18, 1998, at Wartburg Luthern Nursing for the Aged in Brooklyn, New York. He was born April 12, 1913, in Kingstree, a son of the late Ben Washington and Peggy Pressley Washington. He was retired from Williamsburg County Memorial Hospital where he worked as a custodian. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Annie Mae Brown Washington of Rochester, N.Y.; three sons, Thomas Levi Washington of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Cephus Ervin Washington of Kingstree; and Kenneth Washington of Avenell, N.J.; two daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Washington Burroughs of Rochester, N.Y.; and Mrs. Evelyn Washington Gamble of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and two sisters, Mrs. Geneva Johnson of Kingstree; and Mrs. Alberta Warren of Kingstree, thirteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
MURRAY -- Funeral services for Mrs. Dinah Gamble Murray were held Wednesday, September 23, 1998, at St. John 4-B Baptist Church in Greeleyville, conducted by Rev. Jimmy Brockington. Burial followed in Keels Cemetery in Greeleyville directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Murray, 83, died Saturday, September 19, 1998, at Dorah Community Center in Manning. She was born January 10, 1915, in Greeleyville, a daughter of the late Johnnie Gamble and Mary Eva Chandler Gamble. Surviving is one sister, Mrs. Millie White of Lane.
BROWN -- Funeral services for Ulysses Brown were held Wednesday, September 23, 1998, at St. John Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Talbert Dickson. Burial followed in the churchyard cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Brown died September 18, 1998, at Millennium of Liberty Heights Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He was born April 30, 1955, a son of the late Rev. Samuel D. Brown and Sarah Johnson Brown. He was a graduate of C.E. Murray High School class of 1976. He was a member of St. John Baptist Church. He was a former employee of Georgia Pacific in Russellville and The Wise Company in Greeleyville. He later moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where he was employed as a construction worker at RAP Construction Company. Survivors are: one daughter, Erica Williams of Salters; three brothers, Willie S. Brown of Baltimore, Md.; Deacon Johnny Brown and Rev. Levern O. Brown, both of Greeleyville; four sisters, Mrs. Barbara J. Woods and Mrs. Linda A. Brown, both of Greeleyville; Mrs. Ernestine Bradley of Kingstree; and Mrs. Patricia Pressley of Nesmith; and his step-mother, Mrs. Louise W. Brown of Salters.
PUGH -- William Epps (Bill) Pugh, 80, died Tuesday, September 29, 1998, in a Florence hospital. Funeral services were held Thursday, October 1, 1998, in the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in Williamsburg Cemetery directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mr. Pugh was born in Columbia, a son of the late Lila Wayne Epps Pugh and Dr. Griffith T. Pugh, Sr. He was a 1940 graduate of Clemson University and retired from Farmers Home Administration as Supervisor for Williamsburg County. He was a member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, where he taught the Mens Bible Class and had served as Deacon, Elder and was currently Elder Emeritus. He was a member of the Kingstree Rotary Club. Survivors are: his wife, Annie Burgess Pugh; two sons, William E. Pugh, Jr. of Monroe, Ga.; and Alexander B. Pugh of ...
DUKES -- Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Dukes were held Saturday, October 3, 1998, at St. Mary's A.M.E. Church in Salters, conducted by Rev. Nathan Morris. Burial followed in the churchyard cemetery directed by Henryhand Funeral Home. Mrs. Dukes died Tuesday, September 29, 1998, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. She was born November 12, 1911, in Williamsburg County, the daughter of the late Charlie and Wilhelmina McBride. She was educated in the schools of Williamsburg County and was a member of St. Mary's A.M.E. Church. Survivors are: three sons, Willie James Dukes of Clearwater, Florida; Charlie Dukes of Salters; and Rev. Julius Dukes of Florence; four daughters, Wilhelmina Wallace of Largo, Florida; Inell Turner of Summerville, South Carolina; Jannie Cleveland of Manhattan, New York; Anna Lee Salters of Kingstree; and Cornell Cades of Hopkins, South Carolina.
