Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com HANNA -- Lewis P. Hanna, Sr., 75, died Tuesday, September 29, 1998, at Bulloch Memorial Hospital. The Williamsburg County native left South Carolina in 1965, to live in Cocoa and St. Cloud, Florida and finally Statesboro, Georgia. He was a retired mechanic and veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II. He owned and operated a garage at his home on the Cedar Swamp Road where he repaired automobiles and farm equipment and performed metal fabrication and welding. He was known to all in the area as an exceptional craftsman. In the early '60s Mr. Hanna designed, built and sold rubber tired sulkies to pull trailers which he also built to replace drays used for hauling tobacco from the fields. Survivors are: his wife, Lucille K. Hanna, Brooklet; one daughter, Lucy McCoy, of Mount Plymouth, Florida.; four sons, Lewis Hanna Jr., Merritt Island, Florida; Dudley Hanna, of St. Cloud, Florida, Keith Hanna, of Statesboro, Georgia; and Ron Hanna of Statesboro, Georgia.
BEDMINISTER -- Funeral services for Mrs. Evelyn Maxine C. Bedminister were held Saturday, October 10, 1998, at Bethesda United Methodist Church in Lake City, conducted by Rev. Hayes T. Gainey. Burial followed in Dr. James Cemetery in Kingstree directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Bedminister, 42, died Monday, October 5, 1998, in Miami, Florida. She was born in Kingstree, a daughter of Mrs. Eloise Cooper and the late Joe Cooper. She was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church. Survivors, in addition to her mother, are: her husband, Luke Bernard Bedminister; one daughter, Raheema Bedminister; two brothers, Dennis Cooper of Miami, Fla.; and Derrin Cooper of Columbia; and three sisters, Eunice Cooper, Estelle Brown of Savannah, Ga. and Jennifer Kindall of South Carolina.
PIERCE -- Funeral services for James R. "Jim" Pierce, 77, were held Monday, October 13, 1998, in the Cades Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery directed by Brockington Funeral Home. Mr. Pierce died Sat., October 10, 1998, in a Florence hospital. He was born in Berkeley County, a son of the late Henry Thomas Pierce and Anna Elizabeth Moore Pierce. He was a former employee with W. Lee Flowers & Company and was a member of Cades Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Ledell Driggers Pierce of Cades; one son, James A. "Jimmy" Pierce of Cades; one daughter, Mrs. Nancy McElveen of Cades; and one brother, William J. Pierce of Bethera.
COOK -- James Robert Cook, 90, died Friday, October 9, 1998, in a Sumter hospital. Funeral services were held Monday, October 12, 1998, in Hebron United Methodist Church. Burial followed in Burgess Cemetery directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mr. Cook was born in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Robert James Cook and Juanita Feagins Cook. He was a retired farmer and merchant, a member of Kingstree Masonic Lodge #46, A.F.M. and Eugene Chapter 137 O.E.S. and a member of Hebron United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school. He was first married to the late Mattie Stewart Cook. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Ruth Duke Cook of New Zion; two sons, James (Jack) Cook of Chapin; and James (Jimmy) Cook of Jacksonville, FL; two daughters, Vivian C. Reber of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; and Laura C. Purser of Conyers, Ga.; four step-sons, Gerald Cook of Oregon; Tony W. Cook of Kingstree; Ronald C. Cook and Raymond B. Cook, both of Charleston; one step-daughter, Judy C. Owens of Charleston; one sister, Mary Alice McCaslin of Annapolis, Md.; and one brother, L. D. Cook of Lake City.
RIOUS -- Funeral services for Ervin ³Bimmie² Rious, Jr. were held Friday, October 9, 1998, at St. Matthew Baptist Church in Salters, conducted by Rev. James E. Council. Burial followed in the family plot of the Salters Cemetery directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mr. Rious was born September 28, 1940, in Salters, a son of Mrs. Mary Lee Wright Rious and the late Ervin Rious, Sr. He graduated from Williamsburg County Training School (C.E. Murray High School) in 1958. He was a member of St. Matthew Baptist Church, where he was active in the choir. He was employed as landscaper at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. for over 17 years. Survivors, in addition to his mother of the home, are: his wife, Mrs. Lottie M. Rious of Washington, D.C.; one son, Kelvin B. McGill, Sr. of Cheverly, Md.; one daughter, Shirley Rious of Washington, D.C.; and two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Blagmon of Lawrenceville, Ga.; and Mrs. Wilhamenia Pompey of Plainsfield, N.J.
COKLEY -- Funeral services for Leroy Cokley of Andrews were held Saturday, October 10, 1998, at St. Andrews A.M.E. Church, conducted by Rev. J. H. Cokley and Rev. Thomas Myers. Burial followed at Piney Grove Cemetery directed by McKnight-Fraser of Andrews. Mr. Cokley was born September 27, 1945, in the Rhems Section of Williamsburg County, the son of Anna R. Cokley. He was a member of St. Andrews A.M.E. Church and graduated from Rosemary High School. Survivors, in addition to his mother of Andrews, are: his wife, Carol W. Cokley of Philadelphia, Pa.; one daughter, Robin Cokley of Philadelphia; his maternal grandmother, Ada B. Cokley of Andrews; one foster son, LaMount McNeil of Philadelphia; one foster daughter, Carmella Wells of Philadelphia; five brothers, Marion Cokley of Bronx, N.Y.; Hope Dickerson and the Honorable Enoch Dickerson of Summerville; Ret. Major Johnny Cokley of Satellite, Fla.; and Rev. Dr. James H. Cokley of Conway; seven sisters, Mary F. Williams and Katherin Cobbs of Summerville; Rochel Jackson of Bridgeport, Ct.; Miriam Lewis of Nesmith; Lena C. English of Darlington; Gearldine Bailey and Patrinia Boyd of Andrews.
PROSSER -- Mrs. Elaine H. Prosser, 46, wife of William S. Prosser, died Saturday, October 10, 1998, in the Lake City Hospital. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 13, 1998, in the Brockington Funeral Home Chapel in Lake City. Burial followed in the Beulah Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Brockington Funeral Home. Mrs. Prosser was born in Columbia, a daughter of Ruth Miles Hughes and the late Kelly Hughes. She was a homemaker and representative for Home Interiors and Avon. She was a member of Unity Christian Fellowship Church and the Womens Ministries of the church. Survivors, in addition to her mother of Coward, are: her husband, William S. Prosser of Scranton; two daughters, Robin Prosser and Stacey Prosser, both of Scranton; two step-daughters, Tammy Grice of Coward; and Sharon Brown of Lake City; four sisters, Linda Lynch of Effingham; Sue Hughes-McBride of Florence; Jean McGee of Timmonsville; and Brenda Avant of Coward; and two brothers, Mike Hughes of Florence; and Billy Hughes of Knoxville, TN.
SCOTT -- Funeral services for Mrs. Ella Mae Scott were held Sat., Oct. 17, 1998, at Jerusalem A.M.E. Church in Johnsonville, conducted by Rev. Frost. Burial followed in Jerusalem A.M.E. Church Cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers. Mrs. Scott, 58, died Thursday, October 8, 1998, in Massachusetts General Hospital. She was born February 24, 1940, in Hemingway, a daughter of Mrs. Alberta Davis Scott and the late Willie Scott. She was employed through Home Health as a medical assistant. She was a member of Miracle Temple Holiness Church, where she was a church missionary. Survivors, in addition to her mother of Hemingway, are: two sons, Dampson Scott of Hemingway; and Leon Scott of Boston, Mass.; six sisters, Mrs. Lillie Mae Woodbury of Youngstown, Ohio; Mrs. Margaret Combs of Dorchester, Mass; Mrs. Katherine Hunt, Mrs. Ella Jane Sumpter, Mrs. Loretta Garrett and Mrs. Everlena Scott, all of Hemingway; and four brothers, Hubert Scott, William Scott and Dozier Scott, all of Hemingway; and Roger Scott of Landover, MD.

LONEY -- Funeral services for Mrs. Lucille Cooper Loney were held Sat., Oct. 17, 1998, at Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Kingstree Cemetery. Mrs. Loney, 80, died Monday, October 12, 1998, at Carolinas Hospital System-Kingstree. She was born October 10, 1918, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Walter Cooper and Marie Brockington Cooper. She was a housewife. She was a member of North Kingstree Baptist Church. Survivors are: one son, Cleveland Loney of Hollywood, Fla.; one daughter, Mrs. Peggy Wallace Young of Sumter; and two brothers, Walter Cooper of Kingstree; and Benjamin Cooper of Brooklyn, N.Y.
