Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com McCREA -- Funeral services for Waldo McCrea were held Sat., November 14, 1998, at Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Rev. Levern O. Brown. Burial followed in St. John A.M.E. Church Cemetery in Trio directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. McCrea, 78, died Thur., Nov. 5, 1998, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was born August 10, 1920, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Arthur McCrea and Lizzie Pendergrass McCrea. Survivors are: two daughters, Lisa McCrea and Sharon McCrea, both of Philadelphia, Pa.; one son, Willie McCrea of Philadelphia, Pa.; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy McCrea and Mrs. Lilly Mae Brown, both of Philadelphia, Pa; and four step-children, Angela Oliver and Willie Oliver, both of Long Island, New York; Wallace Oliver and Alice Rains, both of Brooklyn, N.Y.
BEASLEY -- Funeral services for Mrs. Mittie Weldon Beasley were held Sat., Nov. 14, 1998, at Charity Baptist Church in the Suttons Community, conducted by Rev. Carl Shaw, Burial followed in Charity Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Beasley, 86, died Thursday, November 12, 1998, at Carolinas Hospital System-Kingstree. She was born April 19, 1912, in Suttons, a daughter of the late Spencer Beasley and Idella Frazier Beasley. She was a retired farmer. She was a member of Charity Baptist Church, where she was a former church secretary and Sunday school teacher.
MATTHEWS -- Funeral services for Willie "Buck" Niles were held Sat., Nov. 14, 1998, at the Reform House of God, Acherbey Section, Charleston. Burial followed in the St. Mary A.M.E. Church Cemetery in Kingstree directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mr. Niles, 65, died Monday, November 9, 1998, at the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital in Charleston. He was the son of Mrs. Elmira McCray Niles and the late Benny Niles. He was born December 8, 1933, in Salters. He was a member of the House of God, Keith Dominion. He was employed as a longshoreman with I.L.A. Survivors, in addition to his mother of Salters, are: two sons, Mynord Niles of Summerville; and John H. Smith of New Jersey; one daughter, Mrs. Leola Fleming of Charleston; four sisters, Rev. Bertie Mae Lee of Kingstree; Mrs. Hattie Lou Madison of Miami, FL; Mrs. Thomasina Tisdale of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and Queen Esther Niles of Salters; and three brothers, Benny Niles, Jr. of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Richard Niles and John Lee Fulton, both of Charleston.
FAULK -- Hadley Reid Faulk, 71, died Sunday, November 22, 1998, in a Florence hospital. Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 24, 1998, in the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in Mt. Vernon United Methodist Cemetery directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mr. Faulk was born in Indian Trail, North Carolina, a son of the late Simeon and Margaret Faulk. He retired in 1985 as district manager of General Motors-Buick division. He served as a Deacon and Elder of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church and was a member of the church choir. He was a member of the Kingstree Rotary Club, a past director of the Williamsburg County Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Swamp Fox Golf and Country Club. Survivors are: his wife, Marian Duke Faulk of Kingstree; one daughter, Lynn F. Britt of Cumming, Georgia; one son, Joseph Reid Faulk of Snellville, Georgia; and three sisters and one brother from the Charlotte, North Carolina area. Memorials may be made to Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, Kingstree.
SALTERS -- Funeral services for Viola Graham Salters, 86, were held Monday, November 16, 1998, at Asbury United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Sam Lucus and Rev. Curnell Graham. Burial followed at Asbury-Bethleham Cemetery directed by McKnight-Fraser Funeral Home. Mrs. Salters died November 11, 1998, at her residence in Andrews. She was the daughter of the late Willie and Mary Graham. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Joseph & Brothers and the Home Charity Lodges. Survivors are: two sons, Rev. L. J. Graham of Andrews; and Elijah Salters of Rochester, N.Y.; two daughters, Wearlene Chandler and Lorine Cooper of Andrews; three brothers, Felder Graham, James Graham and John Graham of Andrews; and two sisters, Alafair Grayson and Georgianna Jordon of Andrews.
VANKEUREN -- Graveside service for Ruby Joye VanKeuren, 94, were held Wednesday, October 14, 1998, in Greenlawn Memorial Park, conducted by Rev. Dr. Timothy Hoyt Duncan. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, was in charge. Mrs. VanKeuren, widow of Frank C. VanKeuren, died Monday, October 12, 1998, at Life Care Center in Columbia. She was born in Williamsburg County, the daughter of the late Thomas Benjamin and Susan Frierson Joye. She graduated from Kingstree High School and attended Winthrop College. She was a member of Shandon Presbyterian Church and the Eleanor McGregor Sunday school class. She was a former Columbia Garden Club member. Survivors are: four daughters, Margaret VanKeuren Benthall, Joye VanKeuren Floyd of Columbia; Becky VanKeuren Miller of Orangeburg; and Norma VanKeuren Adams of Charlotte; one son, Dr. Thomas F. VanKeuren of Petersburg, Va.; and one brother, Maurice Joye of Kingstree.
HARDY -- Mrs. Frances Amos Hardy, 94, died Sunday, November 15, 1998, in a Kingstree hospital. Funeral services were held Tues., Nov. 17, 1998, in the Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed Wed., Nov. 18, 1998, in the Palmetto Cemetery in Brunswick, Ga. Mrs. Hardy was born in Glenn County, Georgia, a daughter of the late Nelson David Amos and Ella Howard Amos. She was a retired bookkeeper and a Presbyterian. Survivors are: two daughters, Frances H. (Toosh) Moore and Fay H. Hudgins, both of Kingstree.
MCCREA -- Leona Elease McCrea, 92, died Thurs., Nov. 19, 1998. Funeral services were held Nov. 21, 1998, at Cedar Grove Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Miss McCrea was born June 3, 1906, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Mary Virginia Tisdale McCrea and Thomas A. McCrea. She was a retired farmer and a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church. Surviving is one sister, Mrs. Eulie (Eloise) Benton of New Zion.
FULTON -- Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Bradley Fulton were held Wednesday, November 25, 1998, at the Sandridge Believer's Holiness Church in Kingstree, conducted by Elder Odell Fulton. Burial followed in Kingstree Cemetery directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mrs. Fulton, 89, died Friday, November 20, 1998, at the Kingstree Nursing Facility Healthcare System in Kingstree. She was the daughter of the late Harrison and Rosa Singletary Fulton. She was born September 14, 1909, in Williamsburg County. She was a member of Sandridge Holiness Church. Survivors are: one son, David Fulton of Kingstree; four daughters, Mrs. Margaret Shaw of Kingstree; Mrs. Naomi Witherspoon of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Mrs. Loretta Small of Miami, FL; and Mrs. Hattie Good of Morris Point, MS; and one sister, Margaret Adams of Kingstree.
BURGESS -- Funeral services for Abraham Burgess were held Tuesday, November 24, 1998, at the Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church in Kingstree, conducted by Rev. Jerome Wilson. Burial followed in Kingstree Cemetery directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mr. Burgess, 44, died Sunday, November 22, 1998, at the Tuomey Healthcare System in Sumter. He was born March 20, 1954, in Kingstree. He was the son of Fred and Geneva L. Shaw Burgess. He graduated from Tomlinson High School in 1972. He was a member of Greater Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church. He was a member of the Usher Board. He was a self-employed painter and part-time employee of Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Survivors, in addition to his parents of Kingstree, are: one daughter, Mrs. Helen McFadden of Florence; two sons, Christopher Burgess and Frederick J. Burgess, both of Florence; two brothers, Sammie Burgess of Kingstree; and Theophilus Shaw of Durham, N.C.; four sisters, Mrs. Virginia B. Lyles and Earlene Burgess, both of Columbia; Mrs. Fredrena B. Brown of Ft. Valley, Ga.; and Mrs. Hattie B. Miller of Salters; and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Sullar Shaw of Durham, N.C.
