Posted By: GenealogyBuff.com WILDER -- Funeral services for Mrs. Louise Tisdale Wilder were held Saturday, November 28, 1998 at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Kingstree. Burial followed in the church cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Wilder, 85, died Monday, November 23, 1998, at her residence in Kingstree. She was born in Kingstree on December 25, 1912, a daughter of the late Elliott Tisdale and Lilly Shawn Tisdale. She was educated in Williamsburg County public schools and was employed as a housekeeper at the King's Tree Inn Hotel. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. Survivors are: one adopted son, Leroy Wilder; three sisters, Mrs. Carrie Conyers of Kings-tree, Mrs. Sue Singletary of Durham, N.C., and Mrs. Eva Gamble of Kingstree.
SALTERS -- Funeral services for Willie Mae Salters were held Wednesday, November 25, 1998, conducted by Rev. C. W. Greene. Burial followed at Greenlawn Cemetery in Kingstree directed by Henryhand Funeral Home. Miss Salters died Thursday, November 19, 1998. She was born June 10, 1947, in Kingstree, a daughter of Agnes Salters Scott and the late John Salters. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church of Orlando, Fla. She graduated from Tomlinson High School and attended Morris College. She attained her associate of arts degree from New York Community College. She worked for AT&T. She attended Valencia College and received an associate degree in computer science. Survivors, in addition to her mother of Kingstree, are one daughter, Tonya S. Mitchum of Orlando, Florida; five brothers, Willie Everette Salters, Nathaniel Salters and Freeda Joe Salters, all of Kingstree; Layton Salters of Jamaica, N.Y.; and John Salters, Jr. of Eustis, Fl.; four sisters, Florence Nesbitt and Leona McAlister, both of Kingstree; Johnnie Scott of Philadelphia, Pa.; and Mildred Stith of Bergenfield, N.J.; two step-brothers, George and Monroe Scott, both of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and two step-sisters, Virginia Wilson of Kingstree and Helen Walters of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
BROWN -- Funeral services for William Ben Brown were held Saturday, December 5, 1998, at Antioch Baptist Church in Kingstree, conducted by Rev. Talbert Dickson. Burial followed at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery directed by McClary's Funeral Home. Mr. Brown, a retired railroad worker, died December 1, 1998, at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He was born November 20, 1906, in Kingstree, the son of the late Eliza Gardner Burrows. He attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was a member of Zion Baptist Church of Baltimore, Maryland. Pallbearers were friends of the family. Survivors are: three daughters, Maxine Brown of Manhattan, New York.; Lillie Miller of Aiken, South Carolina; Jean Harris of Arlington, Texas.; one sister, Mrs. Martha Cunningham of Kingstree, South Carolin; and one brother, Edward Jack Brown of Kingstree, South Carolina.
CRABBE -- John Robinson Crabbe, 95, died Sunday, November 29, 1998, in Summerville. Funeral services were held Saturday, December 5, 1998, in Mouzon Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mr. Crabbe was born in Green County, Indiana, a son of the late Phillip M. and Rebecca Wright Crabbe. He retired after 40 years with Woolworth Company, and served in the Army during World War II as a captain. He was a member of Mouzon Presbyterian Church. Survivors are: his wife, Meddie Mouzon Crabb of Summerville; and one sister, Blanche Lafollette of Wadsworth, Ohio.
SMITH -- Funeral services for Jesse Eugene Smith were held Dec. 9, 1998, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Greeleyville, conducted by Rev. Bonus Miller. Mr. Smith, 64, died Dec. 4, 1998, at Tuomey Hospital in Sumter. He was born Aug. 14, 1933, in Greeleyville, a son of the late Vinson Smith, Sr. and Annie Brunson Smith. He was a graduate of Morris College and South Carolina State College. He taught school in Clarendon County and at St. Mark School. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He was a member of The New Healthy Farmer's Organization, former Boy Scout Master, a member of the Retired Teachers Association, a member of the NEA and SCEA and a community baseball coach. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Marie Smith of the home; two sons, Cornelius Eugene Smith of Seattle, WA; and Reginald Vincent Smith of Hannahan, S.C.; one daughter, Sonja A. Smith of Camden, S.C.; five brothers, Joseph Smith of High Point, N.C.; Robert Smith, Virgil Smith, Vinson Smith, Jr. and Donald Smith, all of Greeleyville; and three sisters, Mrs. Doris Riggins and Mrs. Verlena Williams, both of Troy, N.Y.; and Mrs. Lillie Holmes of Myrtle Beach.
COOPER -- Funeral services for Mrs. Della Chandler Cooper were held Sat., Dec. 12, 1998, in the New C.E. Murray High School Gymnasium in Greeleyville, conducted by Rev. Richard C. Addison and Rev. L.W. Walker, Jr. Burial followed in the Big Spring Cemetery in Greeleyville directed by Dimery and Rogers. Mrs. Cooper, 78, died December 5, 1998, at Clarendon County Memorial Hospital in Manning. She was born April 2, 1920, in Greeleyville, a daughter of the late Lawrence Keels and Vinny Oliver Keels. She received her bachelor of arts degree in elementary education from Morris College and her master of arts degree from South Carolina State College in Orangeburg. She taught at Hunter School, St. James Baptist Church Elementary School, Williamsburg County Training School (C.E. Murray) and Greeleyville Elementary School. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. She served as President of the Black River Baptist Association Women's District Convention, Secretary and Advisor of the Black River Ministers Wives Alliance and a former Clerk of the Black River Baptist Association and Chairperson of the Board of Commission Hour of the Black River Association. She was a life member of the Baptist and Educational and Missionary Womenıs Convention, where she served as Association Board Member. She was the Associate Matron of the Pride of Foreston Order of the Eastern Star #131, a member of the Abagail Benevolent Society No. 54 and former Secretary of the Household of Ruth No. 3282 and former Treasurer of the District Household of Ruth No. 22. She served as Vice President of the Clarendon/Williamsburg Section of the National Council of Negro Women, a member of the Retired Teachers Association, the South Carolina Education Association and the National Education Association. She was a past secretary of C.E. Murray P.T.A. and a member of Alpha Pi Chi Sorority Inc., Alpha Pau Chapter. She was married to the late Samuel Chandler. She later married Rev. Durant Cooper. Survivors are: one daughter, Mrs. Barbara Dianne Walker of Bartow, Florida; two step-sons, Durant Cooper, Jr. of Orlando, Fla.; and Walter Raleigh Cooper of California; two step-daughters, Mrs. Gail Cooper Farr and Vernell Cooper McDuffie, both of Cleveland, Ohio; one brother, Joseph Keels of Huntington, N.Y.; and one sister, Mrs. Susie Keels Jackson of Mitcheville, MD.
EDWARDS -- Howard Clifton Brown, 71, died Sunday, December 6, 1998, in a Florence hospital. Funeral services were held Wed., Dec. 9, 1998, in Lane United Methodist Church. Burial followed in Kingstree Memorial Gardens directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mr. Brown was born in Washington County, Alabama, a son the late John Bradley Brown and Laura Beech Brown. He was a graduate of Washington County High School and was a member of the Army Occupational Force in Japan after World War II. He organized Lane Pole Co. in 1964, manufacturing utility poles for Koppers Co., Inc., until 1989. He was a member of Lane United Methodist Church, and was a Mason and Shriner. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Voncile Thornton Brown of Lane; one daughter, Sandra B. Brown of Kingstree; one son, Jerry Brown of Kingstree; and one sister, Betty Lewis of DeerPark, Alabama.
WEBBER -- Marie Munnerlyn Webber, 79, widow of W. Charleton Webber, died Sunday, December 6, 1998, in a Charleston hospital. Funeral services were held Tues., Dec. 8, 1998, in the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in Williamsburg Cemetery directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mrs. Webber was born in Georgetown County, a daughter of the late Harry David and Susan Cunningham Munnerlyn. She was a graduate of Union High School in Georgetown County and was a retired florist and gift shop owner. She was a member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. Survivors are: one son, David Webber of Kingstree; and one daughter, Susan Montgomery of Spartanburg.
McCLARY -- Funeral services for Mrs. Ida Bell Footman McClary were held Sat., December 12, 1998, at Zion United Methodist Church in St. Stephen, conducted by Rev. Willie J. Key. Burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. McClary, 81, died Dec. 8, 1998, at her residence in St. Stephen. She was born May 29, 1917, a daughter of the late Senior Footman and Annie Saxton Footman. She was the wife of the late Nehemiah McClary. She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church. Survivors are: one son, Sergeant Major Levi Jerome Wilson, U.S. Marine Corps; and one sister, Mrs. Rebecca Rembert of Pineville, S.C.
TISDALE -- Funeral services for John D. Tisdale were held Saturday, December 12, 1998, at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery in Kingstree directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Tisdale, 82, died Tuesday, December 8, 1998, at his residence in Greeleyville. He was born May 1, 1916, in Kingstree, a son of the late Mrs. Sarah Shaw Tisdale and Henry Tisdale. He was a retired farmer. He was a member of Little Rock Freewill Baptist Holiness Church. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Mary Lee McCrea Tisdale of Greeleyville; six sons, Jessie Tisdale of Sumter; Sam Tisdale and Milton Tisdale, both of Greeleyville; David Tisdale of Rochester, N.Y.; and William Tisdale of Chesterfield, S.C.; and Theodore Tisdale of Lane; and five sisters, Mrs. Lizzie McClary of Kingstree; Mrs. Rosanna McClary and Mrs. Elvina Williams, both of Hollywood, Fla.; Mrs. Mazie McClary of Baltimore, Md.; and Mrs. Eulis Tisdale of Greeleyville.
