Funeral services for Mr. Godwin were held Tuesday, January 5, 1999, in Calvary Baptist Church in Lake City. Burial followed in Lee Cemetery directed by Brockington Funeral Home. Mr. Godwin was born in Lake City, a son of the late Page G. Godwin, Sr. and Mattie McCutcheon Godwin. He was a graduate of Clemson University and a farmer. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and an Army veteran. He was a charter member, past president and now served as Camp Chaplain of the Lake City Camp of the Gideons International. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Ina Jean Webster Godwin of Scranton; two daughters, Paula Lynn G. Garland of Indianapolis, IN.; and Janet Leigh Godwin of Atlanta, Ga.; two sons, Howard F. Godwin, II, of Lake City; and Jon Barry Godwin of Dyersburg, TN; and four brothers, Guy Godwin of Greeleyville; Page G. Godwin, II, Ray Godwin and Sandy A. Godwin, all of Lake City.
BRADLEY -- Funeral services for Mrs. Rosa Lee Bradley were held Sunday, December 27, 1999, at Sandridge Believers Holiness Church, conducted by Elder Linwood Cooper. Burial followed at Greenlawn Cemetery directed by McClaryıs Funeral Home. Mrs. Bradley, a homemaker, died Thursday, December 24, 1998, at Carolinas Hospital System-Kingstree. She was born February 18, 1927, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Jimmie and Minnie Morris. She was a member of Sandridge Believers Holiness Church. Survivors are: her husband, John Bradley of Kingstree; seven daughters, Jane McBride, Mrs. Margaret Graham, Irene Mouzon, Jackie Hails and Veronica Bradley, all of Kingstree; Mrs. Ruby McClam of Cola, S.C.; and Mrs. Carolyn Cooper of Lake City; one son, Johnny Bradley of Salters; four brothers, Louie Morris, Fred Morris and Charles Morris, all of Kingstree; and Rev. Lucius Morris of Delaware; two sisters, Mrs. Helen Hardy and Mrs. Ella Allen, both of Kingstree; and one adopted sister, Deloris Wilson of Kingstree.
COOK -- Wesley Jackson Cook, Jr., 75, died Monday, January 4, 1999, in a Florence hospital. Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 6, 1999, in the Brockington Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Lake City Memorial Park directed by Brockington Funeral Home. Mr. Cook was born in Lake City, a son of the late Wesley Jackson Cook, Sr. and Ruth Jordan Cook. He was a graduate of Lake City High School and retired from Tomlinson & McWhite, Inc. He was a charter member of Manoah Southern Methodist Church, a Mason, Lake City Lodge #193 and American Legion Post 0073. He was a Navy veteran. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Lynette Eaddy Cook of Lake City; one daughter, Mrs. Brenda Williamson of Beaufort; one, son, Jackie Cook of Lake City; two sisters, Louise C. Cox of Hemingway; and Reba C. Boyd of Kingstree; and one brother, Billy Cook of Lake City.
WASHINGTON -- Funeral services for George "Bludie" Darrell Washington were held Sunday, January 17, 1999, at the Wilson Chapel First Missionary Church in Kingstree, conducted by Rev. Auddie Tisdale and Rev. James E. Scott. Burial followed in the church cemetery directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mr. Washington, 36, died Monday, January 11, 1999, at his residence in Kingstree. He was born September 27, 1962, in Manhattan, New York, a son of George Graham, Jr. and Vertell Washington. He was a member of Wilson Chapel Baptist Church where he served on the choir. He was a former employee of McKenzie Construction. Survivors, in addition to his parents, are: his wife, Mrs. Laura Salters Washington of Kingstree; three children, Gary Washington, Sharena Washington and Andre Washington, all of Kingstree; two step-daughters, he reared as his own, Beverly Salters of Kingstree; and Maria Salters of Leesburg, FL; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Ella Washington of Kingstree; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Ruby Graham of Kingstree; four brothers, Samuel Washington, Joshua Washington, Harry Washington and Elex Washington, all of Kingstree; and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Irene Salters of Kingstree.
STAGGERS -- Funeral services for Mrs. Willie Lee Staggers were held Friday, January 15, 1999, at Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church in Kingstree, conducted by Rev. Jerome Wilson. Burial followed in the Crossroads Cemetery in Salters directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mrs. Staggers died Saturday, January 9, 1999, at Carolinas Hospital System-Florence. She was born August 4, 1922, in Cades, a daughter of the late Gillie McCutcheon, Sr. and Chelet Corine Cunningham McCutcheon. She was a member of Greater Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, where she served as president of the Senior Choir, member of the Missionary Society and Pastorıs Aid Board. She worked as a farmer, domestic worker and daycare provider. Survivors are: one daughter, Mrs. Ruby M. Murphy of Oxen Hill, MD; one sister, Mrs. Willie Mae Palmer of Pleasant Hill; and five brothers, Ned McCutcheon of Seat Pleasant, MD; Moses Cooper of Cades; Gillie McCutcheon, Jr., Dea. Elijah McCutcheon and Dea. Jerome McCutcheon, all of Andrews.
SMITH -- Funeral services for William Wesley Smith, formerly of Cades, were held in California, announced by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mr. Smith died Wednesday, January 13, 1999, at his home in Lakewood, California. Born in Williamsburg County, he was the son of the late Boyd McKnight Smith and Daisy Evans Smith. He was a graduate of Kingstree High School and Los Angeles City College. He served in the Navy during World War II, was a Pearl Harbor veteran and also served in the Korean Conflict. Survivors are; his wife, Cecelia Smith of Lakewood; one son, Dr. James Boyd Smith of Rossmoor, Calif.; three daughters, Shirley Lutz of Manteo, N.C.; Velez Barton of New York; and Janet Phillips of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and four sisters, Delma Brown of Columbia; Jean McCown of Washington, D.C.; Virginia McCutchen of Kingstree; and Ina Miles of Cades.
TISDALE -- Glenn Tisdale, 73, died Monday, January 11, 1999, in a Kingstree nursing home. Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 13, 1999, in the Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Tisdale Cemetery directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mr. Tisdale was born in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Robert W. Tisdale and Dell Strong Tisdale. He was a retired farmer and a Presbyterian. Survivors are: three brothers, Davis Tisdale of Summerton; John E. Tisdale and Robert Tisdale, both of Salters; and two sisters, Jane T. Groves and Ruth T. Hahn, both of Charleston.
GOODRICH -- Eunice Williams Goodrich, 86, widow of Connie B. Goodrich, died Wednesday, January 13, 1999, in a Florence hospital. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 16, 1999, in the Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Graham Cemetery directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mrs. Goodrich was born in Savannah, Ga., a daughter of the late Norman L. Williams, Sr. and Laura McElveen Williams. She was retired from Connieıs News Stand in Kingstree and was a Baptist. Survivors are: one daughter, Laura Lee G. Jeffords of Coward; and one son, Al Goodrich of Kingstree.
REAGAN -- Memorial services for Evelyn Douglass Reagan of Virginia Beach, Va. were held Saturday, January 16, 1999, in Williamsburg Cemetery, conducted by Rev. Samuel B. Shumate. Mrs. Reagan died December 22, 1998, at Beach View Hospital, VA. She was the daughter of the late Frances Addie Douglass and Connie Sparks Douglass. Survivors are: one daughter, Margaret Johnson of Northside, Calif.; one son, Frank A. Reagan, Jr. of Frequary Farina, N.C.; two sisters, Mrs. L. J. Nexsen of Kingstree; and Mrs. L. D. Thompson of Litchfield Beach; and one brother, Frank A. Douglass of Lake City.
SALTERS -- Funeral services for Mrs. Letha Mae Footman Salters were held Tuesday, January 19, 1999, at Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Salters Cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Salters, 71, died Friday, January 15, 1999, at Lexington Hospital in Columbia. She was born May 27, 1927, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Acey Footman and Bouquet Footman. She was a homemaker. Survivors are: her husband, Lawrence Salters of Salters; four sons, Adam Salters of Macon, Ga.; Johnny Salters of Columbia; Charlie Salters of Salters; and Herman Salters of Columbia; three daughters, Mrs. Willie Mae Salters and Mrs. Bernice Tisdale Frierson, both of Columbia; and Mrs. Barbara Ann Alexander of Charlotte, N.C.; and one brother, Son Footman of Florida.
