WILSON -- Funeral services for Edward "Ely" Wilson were held Saturday, January 16, 1999, at Elijah United Methodist Church in Kingstree, conducted by Rev. Rufus Snowden. Burial followed in the churchıs cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Wilson, 91, died Friday, January 8, 1999, at Adventure Mall Hospital in Miami, Florida. He was born May 23, 1907, in Kingstree, a son of the late Jessie Brown and Rose McCutcheon. He was formerly employed as a caretaker at the White Oak Plantation and Bernard Baruch. He was a member of Eljah United Methodist Church. Survivors are: four sons, James Wilson of Kingstree; Jessie Wilson of Miami, Fla.; John Wilson of Rochester, N.Y.; and Harold Wilson of Kingstree; two daughters, Mrs. Anna Bernice Wilson McKnight of Miami, Fla.; and Mrs. Rachael Ashley of Florence; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Anderson and Mrs. Annie Reid, both of New York; and one brother, Mack Brown of Irvington, N.J.

McKENZIE -- Mrs. Pearl F. McKenzie, 73, widow of D. D. McKenzie, died Thursday, January 21, 1999, in a Florence hospital. Funeral services were held Sat., Jan. 23, 1999, in the Cades Baptist Church. Burial followed in Lake City Memorial Park. Mrs. McKenzie was born in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Zack Fulmore and Ruth Courtney Fulmore. She was a graduate of Indiantown High School and retired from Baxter Travenol of Kingstree. She was a member of Cades Baptist Church.

WILLIAMS -- Funeral services for Ladson "Lat" McKinley Williams were held Sunday, January 24, 1999, at St. John A.M.E. Church in Salters, conducted by Rev. F. C. Maddox. Burial followed in Devotion Garden in Mullins directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home. Mr. Williams, 79, died Jan. 19, at his residence in Marion. He was born Oct. 5, 1919, in Centenary, S.C., a son of the late Jethro and Alice Fling Williams. He was a member of St. John A.M.E. Church where he served as class leader, steward and assistant custodian. He was a retired supervisor of maintenance/custodian/orderly of the English Park Medical Center in Marion. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Lillie Bell Williams of the home; one son, Glen Williams of Florence; two brothers, Roosevelt Williams and Clarence Williams, both of Marion; and five sisters, Dr. Evelyn W. Graves of Philadelphia, Pa.; Mrs. Alexzenia Page of Mullins; Mrs. Denise W. Gregg, Mrs. Mardenia W. Richardson and Mrs. Elista Mae W. Davis, all of Marion.

SMITH -- Odell Burrows Smith, 79, widow of Claude H. Smith, died Friday, January 22, 1999, in a Mt. Pleasant convalescent center. Funeral services were held Monday, January 25, 1999, in the Kingstree Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in Kingstree Memorial Gardens directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mrs. Burrows was born in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Robert Spencer Burrows and Mary Kelly Burrows. She was a graduate of Kingstree High School and was retired from Campbell Lumber Company. She was a member of Kingstree Presbyterian Church. Survivors are: two daughters, Claudine S. Neville of Mt. Pleasant; and Sandra S. Higgins of Richmond, Va.; one brother, C. Otis Burrows of Kingstree; and one sister, Mrs. Walter Bland of Brunswick, Ga.

GREEN -- Funeral services for Keith Green were held Monday, February 1, 1999, at St. Peters Baptist Church in Suttons, conducted by Rev. Charles McCrea. Burial followed in St. Peters Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Green 24, died January 23, 1999, in Philadelphia, Pa. He was born March 25, 1974, in Philadelphia, Pa., a son of John Combs and Vivian E. Combs. Survivors, in addition of his parents of Philadelphia, Pa., are: three sisters, Kimberly Green of Raleigh, N.C.; Cynthia Combs of Greenville; and Katherine Salaam of Philadelphia, Pa.

WILSON -- Jerry Wilson, 50, died Thursday, January 28, 1999, at his residence. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 30, 1999, at Spring Pond Pentecostal Holiness Church, conducted by Rev. Timothy Gunnells, Rev. Tom Skipper and Rev. John Gibbons. Burial followed in Spring Pond Pentecostal Holiness Churchyard directed by Andrews Chapel of Mayor Funeral Home. Mr. Wilson was born November 23, 1948, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late W.W. "Son" Wilson and Mizzie Ann Mishoe Wilson. He was a graduate of Williamsburg High School. He was an employee at Georgetown Steel Mill for 29 years and was a member and former officer of Local #7898 United Steel Workers. He was also a farmer and member of Spring Pond Pentecostal Holiness Church. Survivors are: his wife, Rosa Owens Wilson of Andrews; two sons, Eddie Wilson and Adam Wilson, both of Andrews; one daughter, Amanda Wilson of Andrews; five brothers, Bobby Wilson of Georgetown; Jackie Wilson of Andrews; Jimmy Wilson of Kingstree; Billy Wilson of Moncks Corner; and Roy Long of Hobe Sound, Fla.; and three sisters, Pearl Lee W. Morris of Andrews; Earlene W. Gorchycha of North Charleston; and Marlene W. Crimminger of Kershaw.

HOLLAND -- Erleen Parrott Holland, 84, widow of James Frank Holland, died Monday, February 22, 1999, in a Florence hospital. Graveside funeral services were held Wednesday, February 24, 1999, in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Florence directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mrs. Holland was born in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Edward M. Parrott and Sally Rainer Parrott. She was a retired lunch room manager at Kingstree Junior High School and was a member of McDowell Presbyterian Church. Survivors are: one son, Furman M. Holland of Belhaven, North Carolina; two daughters, Barbara H. Scott and Pamela T. Phillips, both of Kingstree; and one sister, Mrs. William Dorrell of Kingstree, ten grandchildren, two great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

MILLER -- Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Lee Miller were held Thursday, February 25, 1999, at Antioch Baptist Church in Lane, conducted Rev. E.B. Holmes. Burial followed in McKnight Cemetery in Gourdine directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Miller, 45, died Wednesday, February 17, 199, in New York. She was born October 19, 1953, in Richmond, Virginia, a daughter of Leroy Miller, Jr. and Susie Mae Sabb Miller. She was employed by Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. Survivors are, in addition to his parents, are: one son, Marvin Miller of New York; one daughter, Bichieva Green of New Rochelle, N.Y.; her grandmother, Mrs. Etta Miller of Lake City; one brother, Leon Miller of Los Angeles, Cal.; and eight sisters, Delores Miller and Libby Miller, both of New York City, N.Y.; Dianne Amachree of Fresno, Cal.; Kathleen Miller of Atlanta, Ga.; Cynthia Miller, Carrie Letha Miller, Bernadette Miller and Tracey Mae Miller, all of New York City, N.Y.

BUFKIN -- Funeral services for the late Mrs. Lucille Davis Bufkin were held on Friday, February 26, 1999 at Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church in Kingstree. Reverend Jerome Wilson is the pastor. Interment followed in Greenlawn Cemetery in Kingstree, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Bufkin, 68, died on Monday, February 22, 1999 at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. She was born on April 12, 1930, a daughter of the late Mr. Peter Davis and Mrs. Halley Brown David. Mrs. Bufkin was a member of greater Bethel A.M.E. Church where she worked with the Willingsness Workers Committee. Survivors are her husband, LeRoy Bufkin, Sr. of the home; four daughters, Dorothy Bufkin and Lewanda Bufkin of the home, Mrs. Louise Gena Stafford and Mrs. Loretta Johnson, both of Kingstree; five sons, LeRoy Bufkin, Jr., Jimmy Bufkin, Robbie Bufkin, Willie Bufkin and Anthony L. Bufkin, all of Kingstree; five brothers, James "Bubba" Davis, Leroy Davis, Harry Davis, and Edward Davis, all of Hemingway, Rev. John D. Davis of Deerfield, Fl and Alene Salvenio of Murrells Inlet, SC; two sisters, Mrs. Sally Johnson and Mrs. Rosa Lee Davis, both of Hemingway; two surrogate mothers, Fannie Segars and Florence Coward, both of Kingstree; and seven surrogate children, Mrs. Gloria M. Gardner of Kingstree, Mrs. Carletta Y. Brown and Mrs. Yvonne A., both of Columbia, James Glasgow of Columbia, SC, Mrs. Olivetta Hughes of Charleston, SC, Eddie Davis of Pompino, FL and Jimmy Sills of Manning, SC.

THORNTON -- Roy Hamilton Thornton, Jr., 78, died Tuesday, February 23, 1999, in a New Jersey hospital. Funeral services were held Sunday, February 28, 1999, in the Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Williamson Cemetery directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Mr. Thornton was born in Cades, a son of the late Roy H. Thornton, Sr. and Addie Williamson Thornton. He was a retired employee of RCA Corporation and was an army veteran of World War II having received two Purple Hearts. Survivors: three daughters, Grace Palinkas, Mary Konevia and Eleanor Garonski, all of Philadelphia, Pa.; one step-daughter, Roseanne Sorrentino of Philadelphia; and two sisters, Brooksie T. DeMarsico and Addie Mae T. Elliott, both of Andrews.
